Crab discussion: Omega Maneuver worth it?

Recommended Posts

So on live, I had a incarnate-d crab. It was so tanky that it could to ticket farms, and pretty much take on anything. I've been re-making it (currently level 49) but had a question if about how folks feel about omega maneuver, do other folks find it lackluster?

It sounds like one of those "this is so good that a kid must have designed it" powers. invincible nuke that taunts the enemies and then KABOOMS.

But in practice, it seems SO SLOW. if im on a team and drop it in a group, the group is usually dead before it goes off. So I end up sticking it in the NEXT group after the one we are fighting, so it goes off right before we start to hit them. And even then it seems lackluster, seems weaker that an incarnate judgement power or a blaster/corrupter nuke.

Solo its a bit more useful, but my recharge is already high enough that i can spam between my 3 AoEs (suppression, venom grenade, frag grenade). And none of them require that silly setup.

So be clear, I like my crab as a tanky ranged AoE-er. I have pets but am not trying to be a crabmind. However, droping omega could let me get hasten and be closer to being a crabmind, or a taunt to use my tankiess in a team setting.

I find omega just simply not worth it. Even fully slotted out at 50 its damage is... lackluster? Not exactly bad, but about 1.5x the numbers on a Suppression, for a much longer cooldown. It certainly looks cool and iconic, but bile spray on my crab deals more damage with half the cooldown period. Can't see why I would use it.

I've found it very useful while soloing. But a lot of things are good when you're alone that are terrible in a group.

I specifically avoided it on my Crab Spider. Great tho it is in principle, as already said, any group is already dead by the time it goes off. It might be useful solo, but in a team environment it's pointless. It's not even like Devices mines which can be prematurely detonated by enemy damage.

Just out of curiosity, what are your tactics for using it solo?  Do you place it in a group of enemies from around a corner so it goes off before they leave the area?  Or when fighting do you place it on top of yourself so it hits any attacking enemies?

I'm finding it to be rather meh for a top-tier power.  As others have said, the damage isn't all that impressive, and it never seems to taunt mobs significantly.  I thought it would be a cool way to pull mobs off me when getting swarmed, but they never prefer the device to me.

Also, it barely scratches bigger bosses.  I already wipe out a group of minions in 2 or 3 clicks with my other powers, so I'm having a hard time finding a good use for it.
