  1. This day, Nov 30th 2012 a wave of darkness swept over Paragon City, Rogue Isles and Praetoria. Many stood against the darkness, but it overwhelmed us all. Now the darkness is gone and light has returned. So on this day that marks the 7th year of the shutdown, I want to say Thank You to the mystery person that saved the game all those years ago and a thank you to the admins and staff of Homecoming. LONG LIVE CITY OF HEROES!

  2. I did log in. I took Heraclea to Atlas Park, and said goodbye to all who was assembled and thanked them for playing the game with me. But I could not bear to stay online until the server went down. I did not want my last memory of the game to be 'Lost Connection to Mapserver'. I still get tears in my eyes thinking about that day. I uploaded my bases to Paragon Chat. I discovered that I could not bear to look at them, with all the tables filled with enhancements I couldn't access for powers I couldn't use. My health is not what it was seven years ago. I honestly d

  3. I could not bring myself to log in on "Last Day". I was never sure if I was really regretful of that, or not. I'm just not sure I could have stood by and watch as each server's lights go out, one by one, presumably forever. I hung around the Titan forums, reading about hopes for a resurrection of some kind, but it became apparent after a while that it wasn't happening. Hope was all but lost, but the smallest ember refused to be extinguished. Through the years, there were other conversations about trying to bring the game back, but they never went beyond dangling false hope.

  4. I was there. I said, "This game let me fly. So I'll fly, right up to the end." And I did. I was in the air over Atlas Park, on Virtue, at midnight. The world froze, and a dialogue box popped up, informing me that I'd been disconnected from the server. There was only one button, labeled "OK". It wasn't. But now, seven years later... it is. It is very OK. My thanks to everyone who made this possible.

  5. I played a lot of MMO's during the time CoH was gone. In all of them, I always thought, "this is ok... but it's not CoH." I honestly thought CoH was probably not as good as I remember, either. And then it came back! And, incredibly, it is BETTER then I remember. There's so much I forgot about this game and really appreciate. It's still hard to believe it is real.

  6. In 2012, during the final month I I backed up data from my characters, and demo-recorded our SG / VG bases. On the last day, I gathered with friends on Virtue and said my goodbyes, and I spent the last moments that night in a mission with my husband, who wanted to 'go out fighting'. Although I'd known for a month and more that shutdown was coming and was sure I could handle the end, when we finally lost connection and got the mapserved message... I sat at my keyboard and cried. No game has ever meant as much to us at City of Heroes, and although we searched, no game has ever

  8. Kallisti Gold was the first character I created on live, my first 50 and the first I recreated on Homecoming. She's always been an Energy/Elec blaster and I've had a couple of commissioned artworks made of her over the years. My favourite outfit for her is one that I put together since HC started, using the established design of the uniform from my old SG on live , Legion of Valor. So her outfit looks like this: and here she is as an action figure: There are a couple of slight issues with the figure: the hair isn't quite l

Hope for him to spawn, search map and defeat him Cold as Ice: defeat Lady Winter in the mission from Father Time in Ski Chalet. Note: only need to defeat her once, but the mission can be farmed for winter horde and tuatha defeat badges. Running mission again lets you choose another reward from the reward table. Run up to 5 times for all rewards. Pro tip: you may want to run this mission 5 times for the rewards rather then Baby New Year as Baby New yea

  10. That day, I went around parking characters in various places -- the Matrix room under the arena in PI, the roof garden in SE Atlas, etc., but for the shutdown itself I needed something more. I logged in with the first character I'd created -- three days after launch -- and joined a league running a MSR, all of us determined to not let NCsoft's actions affect how we played the game, and ran the raid just as if we expected the game to continue. We were all down in the bowl fighting the Rikti when the shutdown happened, heroes to the end.

  11. I was there on the Last Day. I was recording for preservation purposes and one day upload to youtube everything I possibly could about the game that we all love so dearly. Sadly I couldn't record everything before shutdown, but the return has enabled me to correct that. In the final hour, recording stopped and I was in Atlas on Virtue and got to experience the Atlas 33 effect as I call it thanks to the zone overloading as other servers went dark one by one and everyone started jumping into Virtue. Eventually my connection to Atlas on Virtue literally imploded before s

  12. I started COH back in Closed Beta. Ever since I first heard of it (heck I think I still have the OG trailer somewhere saved) I wanted to play it. My first character was a FF/Rad Defender Quantum Foam. She never made 50 on account of the other more 'Shiny' heroes (and later Villains). But I always kept her as she was the first. And for 8 years I played this game (maybe a small break here and there), collected that initial run of comics you got being a subscriber. And I loved it. Because it was really different from all the other Fantasy MMO's out there. And yes I played my fa

  13. It is truly remarkable that we are able to observe the 7th anniversary of the game's shutdown with a vibrant community, supported by an incredible staff, playing a game we all love in a way we never thought would be possible. Perhaps I will keep November 30th as a personal holiday.

  14. The Brute will have more of a lead than that. A lot of the comparisons here are SS which due to the fact of its mechanics (lowish base damage but high +damage) favors the damage scale increase more than other sets. Thus tankers look good in those comparisons vs Brutes. Surprisingly, there are other sets out there. And the ones with high base damage attacks and build up will favor brutes over tankers.

  15. Condemning another community in the same breath as claiming City's is such a good one leans a bit hypocritical. Focus on the positives. There are fantastic people in pretty much every gaming community. The majority of any large gaming community are the quiet masses that generally just ignore the vocal minority. Managing tens of thousands of people is pretty difficult, let alone millions. Could they do better? Sure, but so can we, and so can everyone else. You want to prove our community is one of the best? Curb the knee-jerk reaction of attacking something you don't agr

  16. So I'm leaping around Atlas then went to Skyway and I realized something - I don't know any of these streets by name. Do they have one or is Paragon City the subject of the U2 song "Where the Streets Have No Name"? So I am requesting the all the streets in Paragon, Praetoria and Rogue Isles have names. Maybe overlay the map / minimap with these names or somehow add street signs.

On Dark Astoria you defeat many Mots minions as you can (On Maw Part), When enough of them killed (around 50-100ish) they spawn giant monster called Sentinel of Mot , when you defeat Sentinel of Mot, You can enter on Maw of Mot to defeat Mot. At every 1 minute he sends minions after you to defeat you or defeated by you either way when every minions die Mot get %1-10 Mot gets health back and when you get defeated either by minions or by Mot , Mots get strenghtened with +Damage +Resistance. After you drop his health to %10 or so he u

  18. Poison needs some love, and a way to do it that makes thematic sense would be to change its single target heal (Alkaloid) and anti-mezz power (Antidote) into ground targetables with a small AoE size (maybe 10ft). The animation for both of these powers involves throwing a vial of liquid, which matches thematically to the concept. The benefit of doing this is then the Poison user could use these powers on themselves. This would help the set tremendously. Remember, Poison is a set with a PBAoE debuff aura that is intended to get up close to mobs, yet it has no self-sustainability to

  19. Under the "hoods" section for head options. I think this would fill a gap in the current options, and be great for a variety of character types, from your Ice-users to pretty much anyone who doesn't want earmuffs but still wants a winter outfit. A nice fur-rimmed hood. Think about it!

  23. Crowd Control and Pendulum are both now set at 90 degrees, so they get doubled to 180. Shatter is 45 degrees, so gets doubled to 90. Cleave is 20 degrees, so gets doubled to 40. How much do each benefit? Well, there is more to it than just the area. Cleave does more damage. It was basically a single target attack, damage wise, with a straight line cone. Now, it is much larger while still doing more damage. Then, as mentioned just above, there are the target caps, which were tweaked. Crowd Control is 16 target cap. Probably hard to hit that many in an

  25. Sweet! The metal painting came out pretty nice. Interesting idea for the belt material too. I was guessing Sue Storm until I scrolled down and saw what model she is based on. Emma Frost didn't occur to me but the splayed fingers make more sense now. Any chance you would put some of the commissioned art pieces of her up in Art Talk or Comm Sharing threads?

  29. On the last day, I said my goodbyes, moved to the statue of M1 in Galaxy City and logged off of my Tanker main for the last time. I’ve watched on Titan Network over the years, but really always expected to be trying some form of successor. I had heard rumors of the game over the years and, to be honest, I don’t know if I would have played that long term without my old friends. Funny enough, when I came here, they found me. And yes, November 2012 was the last time that I logged into Myrmydon the Tanker, because, now it is Myrmidon the Brute.

  30. NOT affected: PBAoE bigger than 10 Cone bigger than 90 degrees Shockwave (likely due to its range) Footstomp and Combustion (maybe others) were shrunk to 10 so they get the buff. TW gets none of the area buffs That's the highlights.

  31. Oh, don't mistake my meaning. You can react with compassion and still not tolerate bad behavior. All I meant by that is not making a judgement on a single interaction. Perhaps the person is just having an off day or had a lapse in judgement. Hence my suggestion to report bad actors, those violating the CoC. I applaud the community's self-policing efforts, but the Homecoming team are here to enforce the rules. We do not tolerate toxic behavior. We don't want it on our servers. We're well aware it isn't conducive to a fun experience. And we will take action to those who can't behave themselves.

  33. Clearly, every player that does different things experiences drops differently. I get plenty of shards. Certainly not as many as threads, but consider this: there are 5 incarnate powers to slot that do not accept shards. Given the emp merits earned just by vet levels, obviously, one can t-4 everything without a single shard or thread, but it's very inefficient to do so. I certainly do not get 5 times more threads than shards. I don't know how often you play, how long or even what you do - but you don't get shards in iTrials. I do things besides iTrials, and I get plenty of shards. Anecdota

  34. Yeah, these days the target goals are higher, due to the legal fees being incorporated. Lawyers are expensive, and with something as complex as what is being negotiated with NCSoft, I'm guessing that represents a significant amount of hours. We all have our fingers crossed that it is successful (and hopefully, soon), but if there is a silver lining to be had, the higher monthly goal allows the donation windows to stay open longer, and thus, more folks have the opportunity to donate! 😎

  35. I like the idea, despite the nay-saying. It connects with the idea of having an elected player Mayor and City Council per Shard. It's the sort of low impact, but world-building element to the game which players could contribute toward. Stretch goal, sure, but worth doing a feasibility study on at the very least.

  36. Most hilarious thing to do is to RUN the ski slopes/ski chute with a Kheldian in Dwarf form. Dwarf form never got a skiing animation ported over to it, so the Dwarf just LUMBERS downhill in a TROMPTROMPTROMP run animation at the same movement speed as if it were skiing. The sound of it while you're doing it is just too funny.

  39. When you're zipping around Paragon City or the Rogue Isles opening presents, you will randomly get temp powers like Build Snow Beast. But you don't want the icon for it in tray 1 where you might use it accidentally, so you drag it to tray 3. Later, you get the temp power again, and it puts an icon in tray 1. Both that icon and the one in tray 3 say '2 uses' when you mouse over them. Feeling lazy, you leave the icon there in tray 1. You get the temp power again, and the game, unable to put two icons for the same power in one tray, puts an icon for it in tray 2 -- all of which say '3 uses' when

  41. Despite all the work that was put in to make Paragon Chat work, except for specific celebrations that were held there, I could never spend more than a short time using it; running, leaping, or flying around Paragon City, it always felt as if I was watching the zombie reanimation of the game -- it was there, it was moving, but everything that gave it life was gone. It let me go back and remember what we had, but it was also a reminder of what we'd lost. I had a bet with myself, though, that at least one of the developers at Paragon Studios had kept a copy of all the game source, exe

Male model. small (4ft?) and uses the beat run power to look more spider like when moving around. I don;t really like the default armor, too solider, not "insect" like enough, but I have not been able to come up with an alternative. Ideas?

  44. Incarnate Shards always dropped from any enemy which could give rewards, Dark Astoria being an exception. Shards came out before there was any incarnate content, so the only stuff you could get it from was normal content. The only guaranteed ways to get it was to complete a taskforce with an incarnate salvage option at the end or complete a weekly task force for a notice of the well, and then break those components down into shards (this was useful if you had more than enough salvage but not enough shards). You could also get 4 guaranteed shards by completing a Hamidon raid. When

  49. Personal opinion, tankerminding is sub par MM play. The simple reason is Mez. If you want to tankermind, you have to build your entire build around it. Around holding aggro, surviving damage, that's two of your pool choices gone right there with fighting and presence. And alot of extra toggles on a character not designed around running tanker level toggles. You give up more than you get. And presence is the only aggro management tool you have. Once the fight gets going or is big enough that you can't taunt all of the stuff around you, suddenly your pets defenses matter more than yours do. You
