  1. Considering the fluidity of users coming and going from the forums, and that (to me at least) it seems we've had a good influx of new forum users, I'm happy to see several of them necroing old posts out of the ashes instead of rehashing topics a second or third or fifteenth time. This isn't the first post to get brought back into the light, and hopefully it won't be the last. It shows that new players are researching and exploring the knowledge base that's already been presented.

  2. The community, in large part, but the community is in some degree a product of the game itself. What makes CoH, CoH, is that it was at its core a game about -being a hero-, and the people that came fit that mold. Further, it is a game where you can play with anyone, any level, any friend, at any time. Barring a few trials where endgame performance might matter, everything is wide open to team up. And the game encourages that teaming up, that playing together. Many, many classes are at their best making everyone else better, or their lives easier. Not 'sit in a corner and heal me

  3. You keep on claiming you’re talking ‘for the overwhelming majority’ but it’s important you accept you’re only talking for yourself. That’s all any of us can do and, to be honest, it’s enough. Your opinion is you don’t like the combat system. Absolutely fair enough. My opinion is the combat system is really good and I enjoy it immensely. Neither of our opinions are worth any more than each other’s, and no matter how much you try to amplify yours and undermine any alternative view, that won’t change. Please stop talking down to us like you’re some kind of singular truth-seeing

  5. I would not sneer at AOE, were it offered. With that said, the ‘Hat’ that Energy Melee wore, its selling point, was bar-none #1 Single-Target DPS, all other considerations secondary. Thats why you picked it. So, for me, give it that crown back. And having done so, if additional AOE is seen as necessary, so be it - but only after the single target is pegged to the top of the chart. My 2 inf. YMMV.

  7. I honestly don't want to see Energy Melee turn in to an AoE set. I feel like we have enough of those. The fact that Energy Melee is Single Target Hard hitting focused is one of the few reasons that attracts me to the set. We have plenty of AoE-centric sets, please, let's not turn Energy Melee into one of those. Pretty please?

  10. not sure what to add to this conversation beyond a few things (probably already well-treaded). it'd be nice if pool attacks were stronger/more worthwhile than feeling like just taxes to get the better powers. I'd be nice if the fighting pool attacks were legitimately good enough to be sort of an attack chain together. I kind of wish origin pools were not exclusive. I can sort of understand since the tier 4s are mini-tier 9 armors powers. Maybe just those parts could be made exclusive? my real pink-unicorn wish would be if someday, it were possibly to basically select 1 power

  11. Hyperbole much? As an intelligent player, I find fun challenge all the time. How best to add these two new slots to gain the most benefit on this baby hero with powerset I've never played? Solo through some ouro arcs I haven't experienced in a decade. Come up with a new and interesting costume I have made 100 times already. Show off to my new teammies how my defender is secretly an alpha absorbing beast. Lots of fun challenges if you look at it the right way round.

  14. Look I can do it too. Everyone arguing to return the 2x inf is just trying to hoard inf and/or drive market prices up so that 2b per enh pricing is the norm and force me to farm more to simply afford decent builds on my toons. Waaaah why do you force your playstyle on me and why can't I have fun my own way? See how broad sweeping statements that level certain intents and purposes at everyone in general doesn't really help anyones cause? Rather than assign motives to people, how about you read the billion posts about this and try to grasp the concept that people are al

  15. Awakens work great if you are ready for their limitations. Awaken + Break Free + Blue + Green = Ready to go. I line them up in that order on my fifth column so I can just mash F5 and be ready to go again (or run like the wind). For some high level characters where I just don't need them very often, I'll disable them so they don't clog up the tray, but I'll stop and buy one or combine one if I end up using the one I keep in reserve.

  19. I would actually prefer to see pools revert from having 5 powers in them back to only having 4 powers in each pool. A lot of the 5th powers added to pools are either unnecessary or do wonky things to the overall game balance. There, I said it.

  20. This is definitely not the same as soloing, but some friends and I did all three missions at +4x8 with a Tanker, two Brutes, and a Blaster. It went pretty smoothly. No deaths until the final room of the final mission, when the Tanker charged in and aggro'd three groups for... fun? Let's call it fun. Not quite a team wipe, but close.

  21. Yes! Those who are saying make it better at AOE are generally saying, I want the pom poms, but give me more AOE. I want the pom poms, but I also want the set to be the ST monster it should be. I'm willing to live with Whirling Hands as is, for it. 🙂 Of course, I LOVE WH animation!

  22. Why? If this were true, there are already symbols in the game that could upset someone somewhere. If this is the stance to take, then may as well remove any kind of symbol from the game so as not to offend anyone.

  23. Because when I played CO extensively, it was a lonely experience. Hard to get teams. All in all, it just wasn’t very social. On CoH, even if I’m running solo, I can have the LFG and zone chat on to watch what others are up to. Teams tend to be friendly and casual and tolerant. I’ve made some hew friends thanks to CoH. My long stint on CO never got me any of that. its never been about the nuts and bolts of the game. It’s the feel of it, and the people.

  24. It's listed in the Awakened descriptions that it is considered a controversial thing. Should also be noted that the Awakened Division is not the highest echelons of the PPD, it is an elite unit within the PPD, much like the Psi-Division or Powered Armour units.

  26. Great point. I think the pylon cons the same to everyone/thing , so you are likely correct. They would still be the vacuum dps kings, but that does clip their wings a bit. I can test tomorrow if needed. I'll check the strength of demon minion/Luts -res debuffs. That would show if they are being affected by the purple patch.

  27. That's simply a function of the fact that Dev Time™ is not only a precious resource but also a by definition a demonstrably FINITE one. There simply isn't a nigh infinity of man hours of Dev Time™ lying around sadly unused. It's a logistical consideration that even professionally paid developers lament, and they're making "the big bucks" compared to what our staff of volunteers is getting paid to do what they do. I had THAT lesson imprinted on my consciousness by no less a person than Cuppa Jo at the Tabula Rasa War College event, where a few select high profile Players were brought to the

  29. Lotsa hyperbole. Many new missions like the fights against the two Colonel Durays and Director 11 are pretty interesting and challenging. Older fights aren't as challenging, but just having SOME interesting fights shows that the system can handle it. Save item missions, and save the NPC missions where the NPC is aggressive are also a challenge even for good builds. The Night Ward arc has several challenging missions. Also, a pass to balance set bonuses so that +Defense and +Recharge are less obviously the supreme choices, and other choices become more palatabl

  30. So, I loaded up Beta and am "play testing" right now. And by that I mean... I started a solo +4 ITF, reached aggro cap and let them go to town. I wanted to see how long I could survive by just standing there. Doing absolutely nothing. I am not using any means to survive. I have my incarnates slotted, but I am not using Rebirth or Melee Core... It's been 7 minutes of this and I am still standing. edit: I stopped my timer at 15 minutes. No Rebirth, no Melee, still alive. Moving on to bigger and better things

  31. Honestly, teams on excelsior are very easy, even at 3am. The real reason people find it hard is... No one wants to form the team. Form a team and you'll find it's easy to find a team. Even at odd, off hours I LFG broadcast at various level ranges and get, at a minimum, 3-5 people within 30 seconds wanting in. So, lead the team.

Your comment sounds very self-centred, in a might makes right, the small guys don't matter kind of way. It also sounds English-centred. Have you read any Hebrew or Malay forums to check your statement? Have you considered your own bias, if you only read English websites? Have you read the discussions on the "Pan European" ships not having their nation's flags in World of Warships? Have you read any Polish, Dutch, Swedish or Austrian f

  37. Well... as someone who went and bought a lifer on CO after the CoH shutdown, trust me i have played both games quite a lot. Let's examine what you say here: "an unbalanced class system where MM and certain OP power combos go around and beat everyone else, people spam farming ae instead of playing the game properly, a static and actionless combat system compared to CO, when you pick your travel power why bother when you can chose stats instead that are better than moving slightly faster out of combat." Unbalanced class system? Well, yes the game is not super balanced, but you ma

  38. I love the look of CO, and I loved the updated character creator and the way the game fades to black and white if you go too far off map. Unfortunately, that's all I love about it. Even before they locked away fully customised characters behind a massive paywall, I had big issues with how the game plays. Characters run and move like they're trying to fight their way through treacle, the basic control system doesn't feel intuitive (compared to other MMOs, anyway), and the early instanced missions felt like long corridors without very much going on. Also, the stories and characters in CO

  39. Part of my argument is that yeah im going to go with it just doseint feel the same. For me COH always felt like home to me super hero mmo wise. Yeah its graphic engine aint up to as date as CO but the game play feels more solid the community is stronger and unlike CO there is an option to create your own adventure for not only your hero but others. That and have the opportunity to create a villan to battle against other heros. CO has a lot of potential if they put these into the game but Cryptic studios have let the ball drop years ago and feels to much like a cash grab when you have

  40. Hello All! A handful of people over on Discord were talking about a lack of an updated Wiki for Homecoming, I've cloned Paragon Wiki to https://hcwiki.cityofheroes.dev/wiki/Main_Page and encourage folks to update it with current information for Homecoming. There have been a small handful of updates so far but there is lots of work to be done. So create an account and go nuts! As a note, I've removed ALL User: pages from the import of PWiki to remove any user information that people may not want copied, feel free to bring your User: page over from PWiki if you would like.

Fair to say that assuming people are randoms or not may be unwise? Although, a K9 using his T9 whilst simultaneously performing keyboard calisthenics would verily be an authority in any field and truly unstoppable. There's no eluding that logic 😁 There were so many puns there, I even reached into the flip phone keyboard layout.

  43. Exactly. Powers are NOT balanced solely on level acquired (in fact, they barely are at all in that sense) but on where you get them from. Your epic power pools do not have those worse stats because of when you got them; they have worse stats because they aren't your primary or secondary role. Multipliers affecting damage, endurance cost, recharge, defense, resistance, etc should be best for primaries, then secondaries, then epics, then power pools, then inherents by design. It may seem to make some powers worthless, but power pool attacks just barely edging out brawl is absolutely consistent w

  45. No we just all have a very different PoV and your stating a very personal opinion as if its some fact. A great many people enjoy the pace and approach CoH takes for combat myself among them. Is it the only kind of game I play? Ofcourse not, I play different games for different gaming itches. If I want fast paced hack and slash game play I go to Path of Exile or Warframe. If I want a tactical challenge I play something like Silent Storm 2, If I want a good non turn based RPG I play CoH. Because its approach is just slow enough it takes only abit of active attention, but is fast enough I cant j

  46. According to Mids, Staff taunt is actually shorter on Tanker than on Brute and Scrapper Tanker = 1sec Brute = 2sec Scrapper Confront = 2sec However in the character creator: Tanker = 2sec Brute = 2sec Scrapper Confront = 2sec Compared to other powersets for Tanker Broadsword = 1.67sec Dual Blade = 1.97sec Electric Melee = 1.67sec SS = 1.67sec Seems like pretty much all of the other ATs get their taunt at either 1.67sec or 1.97 sec making Staff the slowest taunt available

  47. You flatter me. It's one of those "how many layers deep do I need to go to figure this part out?" kinds of things. A lot of people who mess around with the build planner(s) simply do something that "looks right" and is all about optimizing each individual power in a vacuum, rather than going to the extra dimensional layer of looking at how their entire build ... integrates ... as a whole. Depending on how you're doing your build, that's like about 3-4 layers deep into the build strategy, and you're dealing with 4th dimensional Tetris assembly at that point (and that's before you even
