  1. I'm truly very sorry, but that is not how inferior, normal, substitute, complementary and competitive goods function; nor is it how subsidies, price convergence, raw materials, inflation or COGS functions. This mention of "more" and "less" desirable is immaterial to observed fact. In an economy where all goods are normal and substitutable, price convergence occurs, both trending lower at every point along the curve. Price and availability will depend on complementary goods, such as salvage, as well as other determinates of supply and demand. Goods do not "subsidize" any

  2. I think this was a communication error on my part. Fixing the Patrol XP bug helped with income inequality, as that bug primarily took effect in level 49 farms, so that did specifically hurt the value of farming. The double inf change wasn’t targeted at farming specifically, but I suppose it felt like it hurt farming the most due to the effect of the inf change and the bug fix combined. Looking back, it may have been better for us to fix the bug and then make the inf change later, so each step was clearer - but hindsight is 20/20.

  3. Just wanted to throw a big ole Thank You! to the HC team for having Christmas in July. At the end of last year, I was down for a couple months after surgery on my achilles tendon and couldn't sit at my computer desk. I missed the event then, but am royally enjoying it now. Brings back fond memories. My girlfriend walked by and asked "Are you opening Christmas presents and fighting snowmen?" I replied "Yes...yes I am" with what I am sure was the goofiest grin imaginable. So, again, Thank You!

  4. Defender DPS is best DPS! My level 29 dark/dark defender is currently soloing at +0x5, and having a blast. I actually do feel like a blaster sometimes. Well, maybe more like a controller. Actually I feel like every archetype rolled into one! After I lock down everyone with fearsome stare, tar patch, tenebrous tentacles, and start hitting them with Night Fall etc, enemies just melt. Solo, ya the 30% damage boost does help a lot, but this is the most fun I've had with a character for awhile. The Defender DPS is real, yo! 😄

  5. It would be so badass, if we could run over water with super speed instead of swimming fast. Would that be possible? I know, it is just cosmetics, but it would look so much better 🙂

  6. Oh boy, where do I even start... There's Macawbre, a Dark/Dark dom who is... yep, a macaw. Then there's Orkestral, an operatic Sonic/Sonic defender who is... I think you see where this is going- they're a kestral. (I like birds okay) Salamander Hamilton I showed off in the costume thread, so he's known, but still my best. Charlequin is a Demons/Thermal MM, and is a clown-on-fire. and Tim Brrr is a Plants/Cold controller.

In the 5-9 range, Mr. Bocor's arc, and standalone missions in general, which, while nothing special in terms of story, are a sort of nice "let's be classy, but still be unapologetically evil" atmosphere that works for a low-leveled villain. A few levels beyond that in the 15-19 range, you have The Aeon Conspiracy, and Echo Down the Aeons from Marshal Brass, and Oh, Wretched Man from Seer Marino, which are all really good lore-building/foreshadowing-type arcs. In the 20-30 range, Dean MacArthur is just one of the flat-out best contacts in the game on either side, and is

  8. I play redside more often than blue, so these are some of my favorite contacts for villains, in no particular order. The Radio in Port Oakes is fun, plus it gives you the Plague Carrier badge for completing the Outbreak mission, so that's nice if you're a badger. I've always liked Dmitri Krylov in Cap Au Diable. He has a fun little story arc involving holdover soldiers from the Soviet Union. I mainly like all the custom enemies, though the arc itself ends rather abruptly without much fanfare. Still like it, though. As others have pointed out, Dean MacArthur is a contact I consider ess

  9. I created this music mod pack in honor of the outstanding AE addition to Pocket D and it's two "Daft Punk" inspired DJs rocking the tunes there. This is a client-side mod package that replaces the standard music of the D with some Daft Punk tunes and remixes. Download here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/68vpdw4b7z8e8lr/Daft_Punk_Pocket_D.zip Instructions: Unzip the folder and paste the "Data" folder directly into your City of Heroes Beta Client folder. Don't worry about overwriting an existing Data folder you already have. Just merge it. There's a file st

As someone who is a professional QA, it's testing and re-testing issues and doing things like black box testing, regression testing, integration testing, functional testing, and other things that are simply not just "playing with the tool/game", or ooohing and ahhing at the "new shinies" or using it regularly. In doing so you keep asking about how things work, why they work certain ways and if they match the Acceptance Criteria laid out for the change, enchantment, upgrade, new feature/function. If I had a 25th hour of the day I would help out more with this testing. Un

  13. Ah! Wonderful to hear, @Coin! First thing I recommend: Walk back on the Dungeons & Dragons thing. Why? 'cause there are so many better systems and settings out there as far as accessibility and ease, while still being engaging and meaningful. Dungeons & Dragons has market dominance to the point where "tabletop roleplaying game" has been called "D&D" much in the way that "tissues" are called "Kleenex." It has nothing to do with the quality of the product, but everything to do with marketing. So, to make things easier on you and your family, I strongly

  14. I used rebirth on my sr/claws tank when I was testing it against the 801.* AE missions. He does also run musculature core, assault core and degen core. Having the heal and extra regen made all the difference in there.

  15. Others have covered it well already, just to reiterate: Slot Machine's High Roller's Last Gamble was a great. I just liked the twist in this one. Television is a can't miss if you remember pop culture television from the time around when the game was created. Doc Buzzsaw has a few interesting missions. The red side content doesn't always make you feel like the villain you want to be, but this content, story wise on average is better than blue content. I soloed a toon to 50 just to play red and will be doing so again to catch ones I missed.

  17. Make sure you run Westin Phipps' missions at least once. He's available after paper missions in the 40-45 range in Grandville. There's a very good reason a lot of people choose the Vigilante option for that one tip in the 40s. Bane Spider Ruben and Brother Hammond in Cap are two excellent arcs. Both are 15-24 and are available without any introduction. Make sure to read the souvenir from Hammond's arc as well. At level 30 you get a contact called "Inside Information" which leads to several story arcs from a man named Mr. G, who you may be familiar with if you've don

  18. So many good ones! I'll try and pick from the more obscure names. The Radio (Port Oakes, 10-14), later followed by Slot Machine (30-34, requires Gangbuster) and Television (Grandville, 45-50, requires Master of the Airwaves) - they may or may not all be connected. Seer Marino (Mercy Island, 15-19) is a classic. Marshall Brass (Cap au Diable, 15-19) is very good and relates to the PTS. He has two arcs and they're both worth doing. Bane Spider Ruben (Cap au Diable, 15-19) is a fairly recent one. It's quality. Vincent Ross (Sharkhead Isle, 20-29) and Diviner

  19. There are far better options to use your power pool picks on. Going 3 powers deep just to get some +end from Aid Self is sort of a waste and if you invest a modest amount in IO set bonuses you can make yourself pretty damn tanky. Steamy Mist is really good for boosting defense and resistance.

  21. Hello all, Former Wild Card, which was part of the Grand Coalition along side Global Heroics and Fusion Force, had plenty of different heroes but went by Sh4rpie. Just seeing if anyone else made it back to this game. I know that I saw a bunch of Triumph folks on the City of Titans kickstarter but I never got around funding that endeavor. Keeping my fingers crossed. Hello and I hope to be back in Paragon City soon!

  22. So my family like to do family board game, been doing it for a while. When finishing the last one, I, jokingly, said "hey next time, let's play Dungeons and Dragons!" My eldest lad, he was very excited by this and, after talking to my 19 yr old daughter and her girlfriend, and also my wife, both of whom said they were willing to give it a go, I bought the DnD Starter Set, which contains the Lost Mines of Phandelver campaign and a basic rulebook. Now, I've played DnD, but it was a loooooooong time ago, we're talking over 30 years now, and I never DM'd, ever, so I'm a lit

  25. Yes, I had one on Live, but now with the Defender damage boost while solo, it's even better. I remember it being strong at high levels, but this is the first time I am finding it so easy at lower levels, also.

  26. Ah yes. I have been specifically trying to find a really hard content soloer. I was focused in on war mace because I don't get on with TW and smacking down +4 bosses as quickly as possible is right at the top of my priority list. It's not that I have a particular agenda with tanks and scrappers, I have plenty of both (including a lv50 war mace scrapper), but for this purpose brutes came out on top. I rather like the way that some sets are better on some AT's than others. It adds an intetesting element to the meta. I do think that any statement about 'AT A being better than AT B' ne

  30. Apart from anything else the stepping structure of the destiny buffs makes it almost impossible to use them in actual calculations. Well I'm sure someone could calculate (and probably has) for example how close to perma you have to have hasten for ageless to tip it over but it's beyond me! The 'more things to remember to click' aspect doesn't bother me too much. They are at least on reasonably long cooldowns. I've tried a couple of times to make an energy manipulation blaster and the buff cycle in that is crippling. It feels like you're self buffing more than you are attacking.

  31. DB/EA... DPS is so high that... In mission at 54, team took on diabolique, so I wondered off to Infernal. Took him down alone while they worked on D, then I went over and helped. No temps, no lore, no envenomed daggers. Same team, move on... Fighting Olympian... Team was trying to clear the room... I walked off and set in on Olympian alone. Had him down to half health by the time they got to me. No temps, no lore, no daggers... Just a few days ago... I see the message Lusca spawned in IP... I went and found the big Octo, I was all alone. Sucks to

  32. Before a few months ago, there weren't particularly good slotting options for it. One preemptive optimization was introduced, a 6-slot that gives +3.75% recharge and ranged def is a strong choice.
    1 point
  33. Likewise. That's what I used on an SR/Staff on Beta on 801.1 +4x8 no temps no insps. I leaned on it heavily, and it worked quite well. I think it was the best choice, but I decided not to build that Tanker on live due to low damage output. Rebirth is also what I told a friend to take on his Invuln Tanker. Both builds were already basically immune to defense debuffs. I don't think Rebirth would be my choice on any toon where defense debuffs were going to be an issue.

  34. Pretty sure I've said this in-thread before, but @SwitchFade has managed to do what so many teachers in my past failed to. Teach and explain economics in a way I actually understand. Disabling XP may no longer increase influence, but it has increased my understanding of basic economics. This nerf has improved my education. 😄

  36. DDR and scaling res and Quickness make a sizeable different in SR performance. Admittedly subtle traits at slight glances. I like the way the Sentinel version of both powersets turn out. Sentinel /nin gets to enjoy the stronger Scrapper port with all its neat changes. Sentinel /SR gets an +absorb click and passive mez protection. The two sets end up playing fairly differently and fitting different niches, despite being positional defense-based sets.

  37. Ok, so I am flying around torchbearer today on my level 15 dark/dark defender. I'm purposely not using double xp, and P2W vendor powers, no AE etc etc. Her bio pretty much says no farms, etc, and leveling the old skool way. So queue random message from another player. "Want to team up?" - other player "Sure. What are you working on?" - Me "Oh. something a level 15 could help with." - other player "Oh ok. I'm doing Twinshot's second arc."-Me "I was thinking something more like flashback in oro."-other player "Ok. Lets try some missions." - Me

  39. Mystic Flight/Translocation also works decently. I have "Translocation to target" bound to a mouse thumb button, and as long as flight speed isn't supressed, you move quickly coming out of the teleport. Alternatively, you can detoggle Mystic Flight instantly and have no "hover" phase like standard TP. My "combat TP" set up described above gets a solid work out in the Battle Maiden Apex TF fight when playing melee or hybrid characters with Mystic Flight.

I mean I was chatting to a friend in team chat the other day while we were waiting for two people to zone in and she asked me how I was getting on with my AE thing. And when I said I literally have no idea because that's not what it's about, they said "why the hell are you bothering? Nobody plays for that stupid reason". 43. /jranger buddy: changing Propel's random objects would ruin my favorite team drinking game! Whenever someone on the team uses Propel, everyone else shouts out what they see on their client. Anyone who sees the same object as someone else has to take a shot. Example: Planter! Cabinet! Trash can! Car! Statue! Car! Globe! Players 4 and 6 have to take a shot, because they both saw a car. It's loads of fun: try it some time! 😁

  45. Scrappers may get away with mindless button smashing but Stalkers need to utilize Assassin Focus Stacks. Each stack increase Assassin Strike crit chance by 33 %. So you would want 3 Stacks that give AS a orange circle to indicate a guaranteed crit. With StJ you also want 3 Combo Points, because it increases the damage of your Finishers. Combo Points also give some secondary effect but we don't care for that we want 3 Stacks for max damage, especially with Crushing Uppercut out of Stealth for anorher guaranteed crit. Idealy you want therefore 2 Attacks + Assasin Strike
