  1. I'm happy to publicly announce that there is an up-to-date rebirth of the old City of Data site. The site is accessible at https://cod.uberguy.net. This is meant as a successor to Red Tomax's original City of Data, and borrows heavily from that site's organization and visual display of information. Quite a few things have changed, , though, both in the game and our understanding of its data, so it's not identical to the old site. It shows more information in a lot of cases, and lets you see more "raw" data. This site would not have been possible without the ext

  2. For those who remember the old City of Data (aka RedTomax) website, you probably have wished that could get updated for Homecoming. Now it has. Thanks to the outstanding work of @UberGuy (and huge shoutout to @RubyRed for providing the backbone of this project), City of Data 2.0 is here. There are lots of added details that were missing from the original CoD and some added details that are now calculated for you (like Arcanatime). Seriously, I don't need to sell it to you, just go there and enjoy the info that is readily available. You can check out UberGuy's post here, and check o

  3. No currency has any "actual value;" their only value is whatever people agree to accept it in trade for. In fact, it could be argued that (within the game's economy) Inf has more inherent actual value than real-world currency because within the game it is impossible to pay for many things with anything other than Inf (and some with fixed costs), so there is no option for barter or any other exchange. But the point is that you're operating on a series of false premises, the first being the divesting of normal currency characteristics from those of Inf. These false premises have been repea

  7. So I made a headless character with the empty jar and it got me thinking... Why are the only options for inside the jar Empty, Brain, and Brain with eyes? Why not a little dude all curled up, kind of like that alien in the head in that one scene from Men in Black? We have the graphics for it in the Nemesis Warhulks. Put a tiny demon in there, or maybe some of the vanity pets (targeting drone, faeire,, that glowing ball of light). Give us a few other options.

  8. Setting the hard cap there does far more harm unless there are downright overhauls to every defense set across the board (not just armors, straight up any power with +def) as well as defense bonuses. Gonna be a hard pass just due to sheer complexity, let alone player reactions.

  9. Given I play without it and don't have issues with my doms survivability... no, it won't. Use your controls. The fact this statement has been made tells me too many people rely on permadom as a crutch.

  10. They buffed Dominators as many different times as they did Stalkers, and a well-built and well-played Dominator is great. I don't have the patience for the "everything's a click" part of that style, but I don't think they're any better or worse off than Controllers or Corruptors. Ah, yes, the "l2p n00b" argument that is so original and endearing, and adds so much to the conversation. Thank you for providing your immeasurably valuable input.

  11. No to all of it for me. Still. Sorry, but after days you still dont get it. No matter how many people tell you how flawed your premise is you aren't listening. You do any of that you would be the only one left playing - for lots of valid reasons you still wouldn't take note of or listen to - so I'm not going to waste my time listing them. Again. We all agree there is an issue - but your solution is a big ole /jranger.

  14. I'm terribly sorry, that's not how economics works. As in the previously mentioned thread, you're misinterpreting most of the functions I have explained and your reasoning doesn't actually pertain to them. Economics doesn't cease to function because the economic environment is virtual; it will always exist where humans interact in an environment where there is a market, because economics describes human behavior. I understand you have an opinion; however, that doesn't invalidate evidence and facts. We've been down this road where I, and others, s

  15. A strange collection of strawmen. I don't think anyone is confusing influence for real money, nor have I seen anyone arguing the impact of spent inf in builds is null (although it would be myopic to say ALL that influence is lost, as people occasionally respec abandoned characters and dump IOs on the market to fund other alts). There's a fee on the market. Are there positive consequences to it? Are there negative consequences to it? Some of the positive consequences we know for a fact. Some, we can theorize about with some level of confidence. I'm not sure any negative consequence to the fe

  18. No, because the premise, reasoning and conclusion are all flawed. IO sets aren't a/the problem. They never have been, they never will be. The problem is that this game is old. Face it, boys and girls, we've had nearly 20 years to find ways to beat the game, and we've gotten ridiculously good at it. We were so good at it that we had to live through drastic nerfs like GDN and ED when we were just starting to settle into the game, and even those didn't do more than sort of, kind of slow us down slightly. And that little hiatus that we had to spend without the game didn't really s

  19. Doms are my favorite AT, and I've never felt obligated to chase permadom. Controls are my opener, assault mops everything up-- once the fight starts, I don't stop until I stop them, and I like that 'tidal wave/force of nature' feel to the class. It feels plenty synergistic to me. I will admit my doms (especially my gravity doms) can feel pretty vulnerable compared to some of my other characters. After realizing how much less squishy blasters are these days, it does feel a little "off." That said, I would definitely support moving mez protection from Domination to a permanent spot, whi

  23. I played one to 50, made a good concept, spent the inf and merits to get her to perma-dom, and hardly ever log in to the character. Perma-dom is too nervous and fussy for my style. A moment's inattention and you blew it and are back to zero. Without perma-dom the character is a weaker version of a controller with worse endurance issues. I do not enjoy the AT and have no desire to roll another.

  26. I'm sorry, that's not how economics works. A fee, in this case a trade tax, is an expense that reduces both buyer and seller surplus, creating a tax wedge and causing dead weight loss, technically. The argument that taxes are a net loss to all due to this is often postulated; however, this is categorically and mathematically disproven in nearly all cases, because the positive benefit from three main goals of a tax oiutwiegh the marginal dead weight loss. Critically, the most important facet of taxes in CoH is important. Taxes are usually born in majority by the buyer, a

  30. I think to understand how Dominators came about its helpful to understand the mindset of the folks who created them. Dominators were meant to exist as a Blaster/Controller combo on teams that consisted of: Brute Stalker Mastermind Corruptor Other Dominators The early dev teams had a strong affection for "blapping" as a concept. They just really seemed to want that to be a thing, maybe afraid of what imbalances they were creating by making an MMO where players could freely Hover and Fly. With no Blaster Manipulation secondaries on the villain side,

  31. That's fair, but seasoned players need to consider that noobs are not going to grok that immediately, and possibly not for a long while, so explain what the invite is for before you send it, especially if the person you just sent the invite too was expecting to get invited to a Positron TF.

  32. While that's true, that feels like a strange choice. This chance will be evaluated every time the power is used. While not even remotely wasted cycles worth being concerned about, it doesn't feel like something anyone working on the game would do intentionally for the sake of convenience in later adding a new effect in this spot, which would be a trivial bit of editing to do even with the old DEF file format. My guess is that someone did this while testing variations in the power, probably back in the Cryptic Studios days, got in in a satisfactory state, and forgot to clean this up

  33. It basically is a removed effect. Looking at the design formula, Swipe's 2s recharge attack should do 0.68 scaled damage however Swipe is doing 0.76 scale damage (something a 2.5s recharge power should do). However, since Swipe has no secondary effects, it is common to give powers like this a 80% discount on the design formula, so that all lines up correctly (2s is 80% of 2.5s). Since all that is working correctly, it's safe to assume setting the probability to 0% is an easy solution, as it effectively removes the effect from the power while it also offers the effect slot for edit

  39. They can. I tanked AVs and soloed GMs with a melee-only defender. The problem, for defenders, is the melee damage scalar. It's shit. We can play defenders who use melee attacks now, with powers like Air Superiority, Cross Punch and *PP melee attacks. With a 0.55 scalar, though, they're not impressive, even with piles of -Res. A melee defender is, essentially, a petless mastermind with slightly higher HP pool and better buffs/debuffs. That's why almost no-one bothers. TA. And with enough status effects of your own, you can get by without prote

  43. According to Wikipedia this is the definition of color theory although the concept is much more broad than this: However, there is a section about Monochromatic colors: Don't forget that this cc is about using ONE main color, along with shades of said color so this technically fits under a small subset of color theory. One major caveat is that minor accent colors are allowed in this cc. However calling this a color theory themed cc is a bit too broad as color theory is a bit more complex than it actually seems, when it's technically a Monochromatic themed cc. Nonetheless defini
