  1. This forum poster’s opinion got me thinking how best to demonstrate speed similarities and disparities. I designed some simple testing to come up with evidence to do so, with a focus on extreme/outlier situations. I used the following methodology: Three courses: Peregrine Island (Bottom to Top), Nerva Archipelago (Bottom to Top), Grandville (Blackline Helicopter to red windows at the top of W.E.B./Tangle Tower). These locations were selected due to their simplicity, extreme distance, and direction – no missions take you to these locations, no badges to go to or from, n

  2. Since mine was one of the posts that got nuked, I repost a summary of the relevant portion of it, knowing full well that the same complaint has already been heard and likely nothing will come of it: I dislike the reduced duration of Rune of Protection. I already felt that the investment in power selection and slots to get a decent uptime and effect was insufficient even at a duration 50% greater than the beta version, and don't even consider the 60 second options in the other pools due to their limited uptime. I would prefer a normalization in the opposite direction, where the 60 second durati

  4. So....to be clear. We're upset that New Fly is slower than New Super Speed and New Super Leap when....Old Fly is slower than Old Super Speed and Old Super Leap? And the issue is during MSRs, fliers are slower than other travel powers? The same way it is now? Especially when a *lot* of those fliers are using jet packs because most of the city (according to some posters) get by on PTW travel powers and not the Travel Pool powers because (checks notes) Travel Pools are superfluous with the PTW store? On live, I use fly. It's certainly slower than people with SS and SJ.

  5. Your analysis is spot on. And I think the solution to both issues is to make pool powers more relevant and useful and to use pool powers to address weaknesses in the game like the binary aspect of mez protection. Offer quality mez resistance as part of certain higher level pool powers so that players have access to mez resistance outside of their primary and secondary power options - *if* they choose to invest a significant portion of their 24 powers toward that goal. I suspect much of the negative reaction to nerfing RoP is simply because there are so few mez protection options. It seems

  6. This topic can't be fully discussed without broaching potentially political commentary . . . but . . . One reason we are seeing trends to accommodate a threshold of minimal barriers these days is the spirit of things like diversity and maximizing accessibility. The reasons for -that- might be cynical, misguided, or personal . . . but there's also math to back it up as the most beneficial in the long term. While efforts to obtain broad accessibility don't always hit the mark, and there are costs associated with everything, most of the time choices like these have b

  7. For real though, I am downright confused. Can somebody explain what we are upset about given we are all faster now, and the relative speeds of each powerset are in tact vs each other?

  8. That's not a practical application for comparing speed. That's like comparing a Ferrari to a minivan while sitting in rush hour traffic. I spelled out how to run the test above, just do that. If the point is to see how fast you can go from one pylon to another, then that's how you do it. Waiting around to have 47 other players join you in killing the pylon is ridiculous. Stop trolling

  9. I mean, it seems like even if this does cause issues with flying characters during the pylon portion of MSRs (spoiler alert: it won't), the smart thing to do would be for those people to just skip a pylon every now and again and get a head start on the next one. Am I wrong here?

  11. This is great to see, nice work @Glacier Peak! Regarding the MSR comments - Fast enough MSRs wouldn't be allowing you to activate old Afterburner for the full duration between each Pylon. You'd be much more likely to fall behind then than you are now that you can fight without dropping the toggle giving you your enhanced speed cap.

  14. The majority should mod out the annoying sound instead of the minority modding to keep the annoying sound? .....how about no. Mod it back in if you want.
    5 points
  15. Yeah, you're still struggling with math. If you were using afterburner in that scenario, then you showing up to a pylon too slowly is user error. If you are using regular fly, these changes has improved your speed ratio relative to superspeed and super jump (15% improvement), plus you have afterburner for free (since you clearly must have not used as nobody is the cause of that much user error).

  16. I've just removed several pages worth of off-topic replies (and I may have over-zealously snagged one or two relevant posts; if so, I deeply apologize). This is NOT a discussion thread. It is a feedback thread. Play the beta, then post your experience and opinions based on that playing and testing. It is OKAY if other people don't like some of these changes and choose to air that opinion, or if they enjoy something that you do not. If you wish to counter saying why you like/don't like a certain change being put forward, that's okay, too, but the moment it starts turning into a conversation, s

  18. Hi. SG-mates requested I make a post on this and to all those that work on Mids, I'm so sorry. Why only four regular power power pools? Why does taking Sorcery lock you out of Experimentation and Force of Will? Why can't Kheldians have APP/PPP and why can't Arachnos that go hero-side and get APP? Let's toss these rules out the window. We'd still have the same number of power picks and slots and we'd keep the rules where you have to have two of a pool to get the later powers. Once upon a time, the devs locked Kheldians out of movement po

Oh also I download the images and review them in their own separate folder (away from the forums) and for the couple that were difficult to see in detail, I recreated them as closely as I could in the CC and took my own pics to make a lack of PC power or screenshot ability less of a factor. After a couple cycles through them I don't remember which image had what on it. Finally I changed my "likes" to a "thanks" for entering and (continue to) give one to each and every e

  20. In my opinion all pool powers should be useful. I don't have a problem with some powers being prerequisites, but those prerequisites shouldn't utterly suck. I see people use Air Superiority a lot, but no one uses Punch and Kick from the Fighting Pool. Why? Because they suck. Having an ability in the game that no one ever uses is a waste of code. It shouldn't be a difficult change to make them not suck just enough that people will actually start using them.

  21. @Rune of Protection: It seems the root of the issue here is two fold: 1) Mez sucks in CoH with how it works and how multiple AT's can basically ignore all but the more exotic effects for basically all their life while others are forced to endure that binary. It stings for many where they have to wait on incarnates, or a particular pool power with low uptime in order to play like a ton of AT's do without needing outside help (buffs / inspirations) 2) What should pool powers do? This one is a bit more esoteric, but take a look at things like the fighting pool.

But I cant get it to update and so any new badges I hunt through coordinates. I do not use Discord. Everytime i try it is a nightmare. I wont go into details but a thousand dollar comp and a hundred fifty dollar set of headphones should just work...right? Evidently freaking not. I recently joined a big SG and will have to try to get Discord working again. I am really looking forward to that. (That was sar

  23. I agree completely. Already 95% of my toons take tough, weave, hasten, and maneuvers. If RoP goes down to 60 seconds it just means that I'll end up taking stealth or combat jumping on those characters. It's not going to make me ever consider unleash potential as a viable option. If unleash potential was at 90 seconds also however, I might end up taking it instead. Putting RoP to 60 seconds just ensures even more lack of power diversity. Even if the last tier origin powers were at 120 seconds, there are still plenty of toons I wouldn't take them on. You'd still need to cap recharge

  24. In Internet debates, brevity is often a virtue. Judging upon your multiple uses of the word, "logic", I am beginning to question whether you understand the concept. Never have I argued from the point of logic. It is opinion. Yes, the class feature of continually buffing pets is annoying to me personally and I would wish it changed. I do not have to have a reason for my opinion, therefore it cannot be wrong (morals can be and the information that leads one to an opinion might be; semantics, I know). I have no reasons for liking applesauce and yet I still do. Arguing whether someone's opinion is

  26. This was a long plan, and it worked out to a T. As many of you remember, six months ago there was no such thing as a lvl 53 HO. I, like many people, was using holding bids in the /AH to store inf. Lots and lots of inf. (On an aside, did you know that Synthetic HOs are fungible with regular HOs?) So when the beta notes for I27 broke in October, the first thing I saw was that there would be lvl 53 IOs. My thought process, and I certainly wasn't alone (see @EmperorSteele's great post: was that people could take 4 lvl 50 HOs (if not unlucky with a relatively small chance for meld fai

  27. Not to run this even further off-topic, but the concept of "squishies don't exist anymore" is just patently absurd. When you're running basic IOs only with maybe your only procs being a Performance Shifter, Stealth IO, KB IO, or Panacea and you're running that on a Dom, Blaster, Defender (really anything without personal armors), you're going to feel very squishy when things don't go your way. I certainly know I do. There's times when I've had to use Rest multiple times in a single mission just because I get caught by a patrol while fighting another spawn. Being able to patch a set

  28. Tonight 9my time, I am in Australia), my character (Radiation/Ninjitsu Blaster) hit L31 after completing the Citadel TF. I was above minimum level for the Manticore TF (L30+), but I was a bit bored, so I went on LEG and advertised a Challenge Manticore run. Challenge Manticore, L30+, running at L30, doing +4/x8, who wants some? Lawks a lordy SIX players wanted in. I explained that since I was going ot be TF star holder at L31, the TF content would be L35, and since I was doing +4, the critters would be L39. Thats right, +8 critters! 31. While this is your opinion, the fact is that Evasive Maneuvers provides clear benefits for its selection that work seamlessly with the other powers in the flight travel pool. Hover is the entry level power in the flight travel pool and it exists for "hovering and aerial combat. This power is much slower than Fly, but provides some Defense to all attacks, offers good air control, costs little Endurance, and has none of the penalties associated with Fly" (Power Description quote). It is recommended for use when fighting other flying enemies. By the numbers it provides a 4.05 magnitude buff to Fl

  32. One thing I've always loved about the 1979 film is how unapologetic it is about its fashion choices, and its total dedication to that theme. Here's a quote from the director about his reaction to the graphic novel he was asked to adopt for the screen: “I felt very strongly that it certainly was not a very realistic book, and I wanted to make it even less so. I wanted to take it into a fantasy element, but at the same time add some contemporary flash.” In short, the movie is an urban fantasy. But even as a fantasy, the story still had its own "rules." In this fant

  33. The changes have nothing to do with PvP. Evasive Maneuvers is simply just more useful in combat for those who Fly or Hover in missions by providing Immobilization protection and Knockback resistance, while still providing a flight speed buff if you need it (I.e. if you don’t slot Fly), and a defense buff out of combat.

Lets turn sprint on: Super Speed by itself: Now, super speed + sprint: Super Speed + Sprint with a single SO in Swift: Not much difference, but hey its something. I would reckon many people would slap a single speed SO into SS as well:

  40. It honestly feels like an issue has been challenged . . . to come up with THE worst idea possible. Hmm . . . let's see . . . Experience points naturally decay over time, so you have to constantly earn or else you de-level. Logging out only slows it down to 1/10th the decay speed. But, at the same time, every person you team with has a random chance to end up siphoning the Experience points you lose . . . you just don't know unless they say so.

  41. Please don't do this to rune of protection, it's the only self mez protection squishies have access to. Why not buff the other powers to 90s instead? We already have brutes, tanks, stalkers, and scrappers running around that are completely self sufficient. Rune of protection allows squishes like defenders and corruptors to be self sufficient for about 1/2-3/5 of the time. You already have to take 2 other sorcery powers just to get it, severely hampering your build choices. I think it would be far better to make all the other powers 90 seconds. And while we are looking at ice manipu

"Hey guys let's take the I13 PvP changes and make them apply to PvE, surely nothing bad will come of this" I mean, if you want to make the game "challenging" again even for stacked teams this is definitely the way to do it, but the mass player exodus to the servers that chose not to implement such asinine sweeping balance changes would probably kill the server.
