  3. The defense should exist to keep the lotg in and maybe add some cushioning on an approach, it should not be the focus of the discussion with the pool rework, and it frankly annoys me that people are so focused on that and not the sheer mobility improvements EV-MA offers. Like is this really that controversial? You can control your fliers better now, yay.

  6. I'm not entirely sure how this is true, since Afterburner becoming a sub-power of Fly means you can drop Evasive Maneuvers if you're so inclined. This frees up a power pick you didn't previously have which is by definition increases choice and character customization ability.

  8. You're taking things out of context. At no point have any of us claimed that Fly was overperforming for any reason. Fly not requiring Fly enhancements to reach its maximum potential was just bad design. Enhancements (and Fly Enhancements / sets specifically) exist for a reason. Now all travel powers have the potential to be enhanced with slots and Enhancements. Nobody has been made slower, we've just raised the ceiling so you can go higher if you want. As has been explained to you countless times, Fly + EvMa on beta is faster than Fly + Afterburner on live. You are not

I am happy people are pushing their creativity for this challenge, using color combinations they might never have otherwise and making characters & looks they end up keeping. @Clawdebt Your family is very fair minded. Just know that this is partially why I added the randomizing "pull a name from the hat" part. Repeat wins are bound to happen but it shouldn't be the same person every week. I wasnt a good player, and they were friendly. Good place for help/advice when things went way south basically. Back to CoH in Oct. Solo SG. 90% my game since Oct has been on m

  14. The biggest problem with the descriptions is that they are mostly static text with no way to give you "real" numbers unless someone actually types them in there. That's a problem, because the effect of an awful lot of powers varies in ways that make giving a specific number immediately wrong if a character has any accolades, set bonuses, or so on. That then creates more questions and confusion than it solves.

  15. That is not really true. Melee Core Hybrid is layered on top of your normal 24 powers. It also provides a substantial regeneration buff. RoP requires you to commit 3 of your 24 base powers to be able to incorporate RoP into your build. There are *many* combinations of 3 primary, secondary, epic and pool powers that would be functionally equivalent to a single incarnate power. To be fair - you are not simply comparing RoP to Melee Core Hybrid. You are comparing giving up three powers to be able to obtain an equivalency to Melee Core Hybrid. Which is why it is important to se

  16. Fly getting the Afterburner as a subpower is more in line with Mighty Leap having Takeoff as a subpower. In both cases the travel power will house the option of increasing your speed cap to even higher limits, without needing to take an extra power to get there. Fly and Mighty Leap provide buffs to your speed cap for simply having the powers turned on, while AB and TO increases your cap slightly more while also providing a strength buff to your movement speeds that helps your movement powers reach that higher speed cap. Evasive Maneuvers does a lot of things. First there is the Imm

I mean humans, just everyday people, are capable of telling each other the most interesting, engaging and wonderful stories all without anything more than a few props and a few shared verbal and visual cues. We have been doing it since we huddled together in caves around a fire. I can only hope we will continue to do so long after we move to the stars. /Pollyanna off

  19. In my point of view, Evasive Maneuvers is now perfect. It just needs the two bugs fixed, (one of losing Evasive Maneuvers after zoning, and the other with the Evasive Maneuvers' speed buffs going intermittent after switching between Fly and Hover).

I even made a few concepts for what their attire could look like just to try and flesh it out some more. One of the most popular ideas for new MM primaries was 'knights', so I'm going to try and take that and work it into the thread here, and see how it might look on paper. (I'm also going to make a few adjustments to Ninjas, since I'm stealing Archery powers from them). Feudalism - Snap Shot: Stealing this power from Ninjas, and replacing it with 'Shuriken' which is

  24. This is a great idea and a fun time! I was inspired to put together a short IC story of sorts for my character's run of the Hero mission (may also come back later for a similar deal with the Vigi mission), so I'll slap it up here in Google Doc form. (Link spoilered due to the account being fairly blow-by-blow and thus containing many...well...spoilers.) Looking forward to seeing what else comes of this!

  25. I tried +4/x8 801.A blind on my SD/Rad offensively specced. I'm high on amplifiers and I like to chug insps so this should be fine, right? Oh boy. This 300+ DPS build needs constant focus on one target to take a single EB in roughly a minute. And I had to chug, chug, chug these lucks and oranges. I think I killed about 3 of them before I finally faceplanted. 3 enemies, not 3 groups. Licking my wounds, I moved on to the much more relaxing Mr G missions. You know something is HARD when +4/x8 Vanguards with Elite Bosses becomes your go-to comfort food to make up for it.

  27. Sorcery > Rune of Protection Duration reduced from 90s to 60s to match the other Origin pool tier 5 powers First, the reason offered for this change has no meaning. You can "match" RoP, Adrenal Booster and Unleash Potential by making all three powers any duration of time. Making all of them 120 seconds in duration matches the three powers. Making all of them 10 seconds in duration matches the three powers. What would be helpful to know is why they are being matched at 60 seconds. What is special about 60 seconds? Is it simply because there are two of them at 60 secon

  28. They're not saying Fly is overperforming, they're saying it's poor design that flight powers get little to no benefit from enhancements because the fly speed cap is so low. Builds which specifically took a flight power because it required no real investment to reach the cap (which is a really odd take but that's neither here nor there) will continue to have equal or greater speed than before without changing anything, or those builds can be tweaked to go faster than they can now at the expensive of power picks or slotting elsewhere. Teleport is, once again, the odd one of the bunch

  30. It's AE. AE farming has made AE babies believe that doing everything at +4x8 with only one level 50 or one well equipped character on the team to carry them is possible and even desired. It's why you see so many lowbies on zone MSRs who believe that they have no to minimal negative impact on the MSR, and why you see so many level 35 PCs trying to get on ITFs and insist that it be ran at +4x8 with only one level 50 character on the team, even if that character is a Controller. Most of the newbies that Homecoming does get are introduced to the game by AE. They see so many people o

  32. Oh yes, this. I think there's actually a name for this now, I think it's called the Archer paradox? people noticed that in the Archer TV show there was a lot of inconsistency with when the series was set, looking as though it could be anywhere from the early 80's all the way to the present day, so people just decided to take the idea and give it a name 😛

  33. And the destruction of Galaxy City was -not- well-received in the slightest, from what I recall. Considered one of the worst moves prior to Sunset, even. I don't think we should be looking to it as an exemplar of what could be, but rather as a warning of what not to do. I'll have to double-check, but I believe First Ward has alignment-specific missions which force players to dissolve their co-op teams if there are members on that team who are the wrong alignment. So, if I'm remembering correctly, the tech is already in place for it . . . sorta-kinda. The "tense"

  34. "Giving up up three powers" is inaccurate. Those are called build choices. Either way, those powers are still in the tray. I think your assumption that any number of builds using RoP will provide evidence to support the intended changes is false. Whether or not one player or EVERY player used the power, the HC found it needed balanced in line with other pool powers. You may need this information to form your own opinion, but it isn't needed to justify a power change. My understanding of the reason for this thread is to determine if the implementation of this change caused unintend

  35. Nonsense! You can't just go around treating The Cottage Rule like it was some off-the-cuff remark made by a dev who left Paragon two years before shutdown. The HC devs should email Castle and double-check with him every time they want to change anything at all about a power. I'm sure he'd appreciate it.

  36. It's just HP. The same rationale applies to having an extra 30 max HP and healing 30 HP/sec. Comparing Absorb (or healing) to damage resistance ever is, IMO, a mistake that will wildly inflate people's understanding of Absorb's benefits. Adding 20% damage resistance to 40% existing resistance drops the DPS you suffer by a third, no matter what the incoming DPS actually is. How long you can survive that is a function of your HP recovery rate, but whatever that rate was, it will now keep you alive forever at 1.5x the incoming DPS it would before. Increasing your HP/sec re

  38. Without stereotyping -too- much, there is a vast difference between Australian interaction with others and American interaction with others. Generally speaking, Aussies are rough and forthright, needling and prodding, just to raise hackles for a laugh. Whereas Americans, in general, are polite with strangers, to what I consider to be an excessive degree, always ready to defend strangers against accusations of incompetence: "they might be having internet issues" "maybe they are indisposed" "perhaps they are busy on the phone at the moment?" "don't you think maybe thei

  39. Slot investment and enhancement choices are the new choice. It's no more or less homogenous this way. Previously having Fly by itself was capped, and you could raise the cap by slotting Afterburner, which would change the speed that you can fly at. Now you can slot Fly to change the speed that you can fly at. What a novel concept, slotting the power you're trying to improve in order to get more effect out of it.

  42. And can we has your stuff? ☺️ I had a Halo game night with friends on Friday and we're having the same aging comments. One of them pointed out that this quarterly Halo gaming group started 20 years ago. While there I noticed the host's highly energized son with a Nintendo Switch, and I was thinking to myself, "Kid, when I was your age our handhelds played one game, were just movable red lights with 'blip, bleep, bloop' sounds, and had features like sports fields painted on the glass. And we liked it!"

  43. I didn't say that the new Afterburner has the same functionality as the old Afterburner. I said that the new Fly power, by itself, basically gives you the same travel functionality--that is, the same speed--as the old Fly+AB. The new Afterburner, which comes free when you select Fly, is gravy. You are, of course, welcome to feel that the developers should be doing something else instead of buffing travel powers, but that doesn't speak to the quality of the travel-power changes. And given that devs work for free, on this game that you can play for free, waxing curmudgeonly becaus

  44. The Hover change was made because of the really awkward way Fly animations work. Basically, the animation Fly uses is in fact the non-specific generic flying animation that everything uses, including powers like Telekinesis. Hover applies a specific animation which has a higher priority (which is required for it to override the default), which causes the appearance of it always overriding other flight powers. There was no way for the player to get around this. Giving different animation options to all the travel powers would cause a nightmare when it came to stacking, s

Let me just say that I am thrilled by how quickly the GFX matter was settled when it came to Stealth and Hover/Fly. I've since given them a look over and am satisfied, but thought I'd be remiss if I didn't talk more about the Teleportation FX I mentioned in that same post: As it is now, with all Teleport FX, the power produces a flashy pop of light and a loud sound to indicate the power's use. I'm not bothered by the sound, I actually find it an important indic

Hey, with this change: Hover Added new customization themes that allows you to remove the hover animation Since you can now change the Hover animation to be the same as for Fly, could you also conceivably change Super Speed, Infiltration, Super Jump, Sprint, etc to have alternate options so that we could activate Super Speed but have Ninja Run animation, Infiltration but have Slide animation, Super Jump but have Beast Run animation, and so on? This could make it so instead of changing a stance under the inherent tab and being stuck in Beast Run mode all the time, I coul

Extreme reds (in the clothes, the lipstick) absolutely awful pinks (for everyone), super solid whites (shoes, socks). Marks-a-lot blue eyeshadows. Retina-burning neons. The era was a reaction to the muddy avocado tones of the 70s (itself a reaction to the era previous).
