  1. I had planned to do this as a separate post, but it fits in nicely here, so... I feel your pain, @Nightwatch So, I’m recruiting for an MSR the other night, and I have this exchange via tell with someone, who shall remain anonymous: OK, so I was a bit of a jerk in my reply, but I’m also going to defend that here in a bit. Normally, I don’t reply to tells at all when recruiting for an MSR, but I had this short lived fantasy that maybe I was helping people understand the game better to respond with “broadcast in zone when you get here.” I get A LOT of tells for t

  2. Abused again this morning because I form teams for GM runs with saying, NO TELLS PLEASE. SHOUT IN BROADCAST. To give a specific example, this is the invitation I use for the Boomtown GMs: “lfm 2GMs BABBAGE + GOLIATH WARWALKER. Come to Boomtown (off north Steel) and shout in BROADCAST. No tells please. ALL WELCOME. 12 quick merits, 2 cool badges.” (In a number of cases – like the above example – the invite even includes directions to help people get to the zone.) There’s a variety of reasons for this, including: much easier to organise people across teams in league wh

  4. No matter how sound your logic sounds to you, when you go out of your way to do things different than most people, it's reasonable to expect some people won't play nice with these arbitrary rules. Given that it's easier to change your actions than the actions of everyone else, if *I* were to insist on a "no tell" policy, I'd just make a separate chat tab without tells, and use that one exclusively. So people could send me tells all they want, I just wouldn't be notified nor read them.

  5. I feel like something a lot of people are overlooking with the OP's post is how rude the person sending tells quickly became when they didn't get a response or invite. It shouldn't matter if sending tells or broadcasting for invites to GMs/MSRs/etc is the norm or a better way of doing things, if a leader specifically requests one over the other, it is not okay to harass them over that choice. That does go both ways as well, if you're leading and saying "no tells" and somebody sends you a tell anyway, don't get rude or snippy with them over it. The matter of broadcasts or tells is completely

  6. You're never going to make everyone happy as leader. People will very rarely read your entire message on the LFG channel. I led Rikti mothership raids for years on the Champion and Exalted servers prior to sunset, and now lead instanced Rikti mothership raids on the Torchbearer and Excelsior shards. To me, instanced mothership raids are better than zone mothership raids in every single possible way. I haven't done a zone mothership raid since September 2019, and will never do one again. It would be like going back to driving a Chevy after nearly two years of driving an Audi, IM

  7. There are reasons, which means the rules are not arbitrary. That word does not mean "rules I don't agree with". Looked easy enough to me if there were sixteen plus people in the league vs. one entitled jackwad who couldn't read and didn't have the maturity to deal with not getting exactly what he wanted when he wanted it.

  10. Two clarifications — the first is I’m a Lead GM (one of several), not a developer. I don’t work with game code, I enforce the Code of Conduct. The second is the same Code of Conduct clearly outlines the HC policy on what we do and do not discuss: Please also be aware that if you report another player we will not discuss the actions that we take against them (if any) with you. Any actions taken are only discussed with the player in question and are considered confidential unless that player requests otherwise. https://forums.homecomingservers.com/code-of-conduc

  15. Adamaster shouts (well all the ones I have seen) have always been variations on - Summoning Ada, come to ECHO DARK ASTORIA - drections how to get there, Shout in Broadcast when in zone and no tells please. I use same system when I get him and lead. Never had a single problem. Maybe because Ada shouts are quite frequent and so familiar, but shout in broadcast no tells works fine for it. And support the OP, your shout, your rules np.👍

  16. Damn bros this is getting heated, lol. Anyway, IMO, If the leader has a stipulation, then follow it or don't try and join. If you just skimmed over it then it is your fault for your failure to read (it happens but don't blame anyone other than yourself). The leader can have any sort of term, arbitrary or not (did we ever establish what that meant?). It is their thing they're organizing.

  18. - Everything being run at level 50+4. I got bored of Incarnate content a long time ago. I really like the Dark Astoria arcs, but I could comfortably go the rest of my life without ever doing another Lamba, BAF, Keyes, or TPN trial. The level 45+ Taskforces are better, but they get really dull really quickly when no one specializes, everyone blasts through the content as rapidly as possible and no one plays as if they're part of a team. My attempts at running 'non-incarnate' TFs at 45 have been met with very little success. Saying you're planning a 'no incarnates run' is met quite a bit of di

  21. Except they're not. As noted, these rules are standard procedure, and the reasons are fairly well known by anyone regularly running/participating in League content. It's also pretty standard for GMs as well. Anything involving a large group that needs to be in a specific zone. So no, there's nothing unusual or "special" about these rules. And they're not even "rules;" they're a reasonable request from a group organizer. If you don't want to follow an organizer's directions, don't join their group and start your own.
    3 points
  22. Why does everyone keep referring to these as "special rules"? In my experience, this has been the standard procedure for a number of group activities in the game. Want to join one of these large groups for a specific task? Speak up in Broadcast once you're in the zone.

  23. Hats off to everyone that goes through the pain to run these sorts of events. They are certainly a lot of work to organize and can be a pain if some players feel they are entitled to ignore basic instructions. Personally, if a player cannot follow a basic instruction that makes it easier for me to efficiently put together said event then they are not someone I want in the event anyway. I wouldn't go so far as to put them on ignore but I would certainly ignore their tells. And if they got abusive because of me ignoring them well that is why there is a chat log feature and the ability to for

  26. What I have read from that post is that it comes down to interacting with other players. I think I play on the opposite side of the spectrum. I don't run a lot of trials or end game content in teams. I just participated in a Hamidon raid earlier today that was really well organized and I had only enough time to play for one iteration of the raid instead multiple. I built a character to solo content so that if I don't have time to play, I'm not short changing any potential team mates. It lets me roll through content at my own pace, sometimes I read the clues and mission dialog, other times I am

  29. Folks, I'd like to know more about the game and share various spoilers that exist after playing through the content of this great game in order to better understand its story and lore. I am looking to contain this discussion to anything found in game - if it's in the Lore AMAs, I don't consider it canon. It should go without saying, but it is highly likely that this thread will contain spoilers, so please use the spoiler button when discussing something other players may not have finished yet. That being said I have a few bullet points, but I would like your help adding others. If you have an

  31. Warning, my opinion incoming: Thank you for leading in-game events like this. This is part of what makes this game fun. Sometimes people are going to miss the line about tells. Even smart and well-intentioned people make mistakes sometimes. However, your team, your rules. Don't bother even explaining yourself to the self-entitled folks who believe that the rules don't apply to them. When you're being a leader you're going to get some bad along with the good. That's just an immutable law of the universe. But it's not as bad as you probably think. You lead these events a

  33. Then that's not an advantage of tells; it's a weakness of both. Except that if they are mixed with tells (i.e., in the same chat tab), then you can still see the order of all the messages relative to each other. This seems like a non-issue.

  34. Again, I understand all of this. But, however bad a casual player may look for ignoring a part of a broadcasted request, I’d rather see that than self-righteous fit thrown publicly over other players.

  35. If people have to read a rant like this to know your reasons, it is still reasonable to interpret your rules as arbitrary. I agree with nihili. If you’re going to have special rules, ignore your tells or deal with them. Coming to the forums to whine about people not adopting your special rules is not a super flattering look.

  36. To be fair, this was my attitude toward AE rewards all the way back to its introduction on Live -- the devs had stated that influence (prior to CoV and, later, Praetoria) was a reflection of your reputation and how readily you could get people to do things for you; I didn't see how your facility in some virtual-reality environment could increase your reputation as a hero/villain, since you weren't out and about doing heroic/dastardly deeds for people to notice. How many times do you encounter some NPC saying "Isn't that [character name]? Weren't they the one who *crushed* AE arc 55368?", after

But then, I'm an incurable altaholic. 😉 Some people are just idiots and you have to ignore them. The same is true in life as it is in a game. See my response to the previous point. I'm actually totally with you on this one; I come to the game to get away from real life, to relax and enjoy myself for a little while. I don't need people dragging the controversies and stresses of RL back into this space of escapism.

Also, because the base fly speed was made so much faster, even if you do run out of Afterburner, you will still arrive at your mission hella quicker than ever before. And I don't find that Afterburner is even needed most of the time.

  43. I don't think ERP is a big deal, so long as it stays out of public channels, is exclusively kept between consenting adults, and those who engage in it have some self awareness about it. (It can be an annoying obstacle when players who aren't interested in it are trying to dodge the writhing catgirl hordes, but that's just the price we pay for civilized society. Or something.) Anyway, I don't think out-of-the-blue propositions are necessarily bad either, so long as they aren't explicit and the person sending them knows how to behave like a normal human being if they get

  44. Of course if you have no interest in RP at all, then leaving Everlasting shouldn't really be a big loss. However if you do like to RP, most RP'ers tend to be on Everlasting. For me usually the best way to avoid harassment is to stay away from pocket D. I rarely ever get any harassment outside of that location in particular. Someone should go talk to DJ Zero that they should keep a better eye out on the place they own.

A Mastermind not using his or her primary is effectively a second class Corruptor or Controller, and would be better off as Defenders. Plainguy plays petless Masterminds. That's great. But he effectively chose to shoot himself in the foot and then tie one arm behind his back, and wants the Mastermind AT balanced to make that equal to the other ATs. It doesn't work that way. You have to look at the whole picture to properly balance an AT, and as a
