  1. I'm responding to this post without reading any subsequent replies. I'll give you as much transparency as I feel is safe and appropriate. You get whimsical answers because sometimes it is a costly mistake to commit to something that ends up completely not working and has to be tabled. When I posted my first well thought out pitch for improving this game, I settled on trying to find a way to ameliorate the effects of Incarnates and their abilities WITHOUT nerfing destiny, lore, etc. My suggestion settled on a system that would identify player progress and ada

  2. My biggest concern, and one you probably have no direct control over without just plain removing options (something I don't want, either), is player tendency to take the "new top" and make that line the new baseline. If you can't handle things at the top, then you're just "not allowed" in the first place regardless of where you go. Admittedly, CoH has much less of this mentality than other games, even when the game was still Live. The "play your way, at your own pace" stance has been held mostly intact by both the players and the devs as it's one of the primary draws. That said, as

  3. I have to agree with Laxx here, and I have the same reservations. To give a little context... I mostly play this game with my nephews and their mom... They've only been playing for a few months and are absolutely NOT in l33t pro-gamer territory where City is concerned. (CoyoteSib-in-Law can only navigates using keyboard tank controls. It took her over a month to learn how to move her camera around to look up, something that finally let her fly at altitudes greater than ground level. I'm not kidding. 😅) One of the reasons FCM and I pulled them into this game was its very "casual f

  4. Which is a fair concern! My design aim is not actually going for 'difficulty' as much as it's been content that 'every role feels like they're contributing to the win' while always keeping City of Heroes mantra of 'bring anybody who asks for an invite to the team' style at it's heart. Inclusivity is at the core of all my decisions, and part of that element has to come from the difficulty in order for it truly matter. I don't think there's any denying that in many cases right now the 'endgame' level content leaves very little to do for control and support roles, and those types of playe

  5. I've been roused from my den of evil. 👀 People who like a challenge and feel that the current the endgame has become too homogenized are in for lots of good news and things that will kill their Tier 4 incarnates and 50+5 IO builds. That being said people who like things right where they are now shouldn't be worried either. We're dedicated to ensuring that everyone can enjoy this game the way they like moving forward, there will be options to move the difficulty ceiling up for those who are looking for it, but the floor where it exists isn't moving.

  6. Folks can ask to be part of the Alpha testing process and everyone will have access to Beta testing. The HC devs have demonstrated a willingness to make changes to stuff on test before it goes live, especially if the criticism is based on objective testing and rational critiques. In other words, actually running the new stuff and demonstrating how and why new stuff is less than excellent either empirically or even subjectively might get them to change it. "OMG! This sucks. I'm rage-quitting" will never get the same results. Not accusing GVT or anyone in this thread of doing tha

  7. When you think 166 pages of costume would cover it all. You always find that new combo that has you zooming in to see how they created some face or costume combination. Yea some are close resemblance to some others, which is bound to happen. But Great stuff. All the costumes are great of course but I will say personally, Poster @First Player costumes always catch my eye and make an impression.

  9. No matter what they do there will be drama, gnashing of teeth, and cries of doom, along with a good helping of thanks, devs are awesome, and nominations for sainthood. Me, I wait for the stuff. Try it out. Give my input. Hopefully by the time it goes live it's something that I either love or at least can tolerate. If not, I shrug my shoulders and move on. Either way, I keep playing the way I have for years.

  10. Right now the Difficulty spread is |----| The proposed Difficulty spread is |-----------| The floor is not changing, the roof is being raised. If you just blindly set "Roof" and then "jump without looking", then yeah, the landing is gonna hurt.

  11. Foot Stomp is, *by far*, the single best AOE available, in a superhero game (Mighty Judgement comes in a close second), IMHO. Just my $.02, YMMV. P.S. Back in 2004, when I was street sweeping with my Kin/Dark Defender in Independence Port? maybe, I met an Inv/SS tank and we teamed for a bit. The first time she activated Knockout Blow, I was hooked...and I hadn't even seen Foot Stomp, yet. I immediately went and rolled my namesake (Stone/SS), and once he got Granite Armor and Foot Stomp, my word, what a sight.

  13. See, half the OP's list, to me, is fine as just "an item." It's completely about *how* the player plays it. Some of the rest is just cringy, yes. No, you do not get to know every thought my character has. Emotion, to a point, I can deal with - there are social and chemical components to it, after all, and I can even deal with "unless you're actively working to hide it, there's a surface-skimming psychic component - me not picking it up is like you shouting two feet away and telling me I can't hear it." You *certainly* don't just get to dictate it or insert yourself into my life or

  16. Sorry, Snarky. The RNG likes me more than you. If you want some let me know, I have over a thousand of them stashed. I'm only holding on to them in the event farming gets nerfed and the price of purples go up due to less supply.

  17. I'm mostly curious how this plays out in a way that doesn't feel cheap or overly punishing to ATs/Powersets that don't offer ways to lock down foes beyond simply defeating them faster. I'm going to hold a bit of skeptical optimism about this, personally. I understand the goals you're going for, but too often, attempts to make a game more "inclusive" of previously undesirable characters ends up translating into a "requirement" of previously undesirable characters. Or worse still, people just change their builds and the previously undesirable characters remain undesirable once you spend enough o

  18. I'm going to preface this with: I don't care if you farm. Farming is fun for some people. But I will say this: I don't care if you're a newb, noob, veteran of 2 years, veteran of 50 years, or the Second Coming of Jesus Christ himself -- if you're spamming chat, begging for an invite to ANY team, farm or not, you're annoying. No one likes a beggar. If you're looking for a specific team, and can't create that team yourself for some reason, then send out your message and wait. Re-sending it every 20-40 seconds is just bad online etiquette. If you can, increase your chances to find tha

  19. Greetings once again, specimens! I was politely reminded by @Arbegla (Take your backwards math and get out!) that it's been quite a while since I checked in to let you know what's happening with the Warriors. I've fielded a lot of feedback and it's steered my design decisions towards reverence of the original designs while still expanding the overall feel of the group. Page3's development put a serious hiatus on this work. @Jimmy warned me about making promises so I never explicitly set a timeline on the completion of the work. Much to the frustration of man

  24. Thanks. I do all of the male voices myself. People have told me that there ought to be video, but that's so much more work than audio, so I stuck with the old-timey radio format. (I even make fun of this format in #17: Port Oakes.)

  25. The personal identities of the Devs are certainly something which I feel is deservedly appropriate to keep private. Even without the looming spectre of litigation from NC or any number of other corporate bodies, the very real and sick danger of death threats and harassment can't be ignored. I give the Homecoming Team 100% support on keeping their personal information safe. It's a slightly different issue than their professional credentials, though. Even there, however, I'm fine with Homecoming being run by hobbyists. I'd personally prefer they remain honest with thems

  28. I think VEATs would be my pick for general "good" balance. Much like willpower they start good and can easily slot to great. They're great on a team and solo content well. Solid AoE damage, great utility, and reasonable control on the fort side.

  29. I wish there was some way to automate whenever the "are purples nerfed?" thread pops up both here and in-game. If I were in charge I'd require people to show their t-test and confidence intervals results before continuing once key words like "purple" "drop" or "rate" are used. If you don't have any data to back it up, you got nuthin'.

  31. Definitely a good idea to talk it out beforehand if you're dealing with people who you don't regularly RP on the side with. Even with my newfound group it's all been social, so I have no idea about how they rank their power levels. As for incarnates, I ignore that aspect even though several of my characters are. I leave it at my character has more or less mastered their abilities and has spent enough time in the trenches. I know why the incarnate system exists, and it's fun, but it doesn't really jive with where I want any of my characters to actually end up. I do work enhancem

  34. Well........the deed is done and the battles have been won. I had 6 completed alts as of my last posting in another thread. Having semi-returned from a major I.R.L. catastrophe I spent the past week power grinding my remaining alts to completion. I had them all synchronized so that they all needed the same badges to complete them. Would have been done sooner, but R.L. takes priority. Remember that R.L. is the only place that you can get a decent meal, and that Reality is what is real. That being said: as of now......all FIFTEEN(15) of my badge hunters, ONE of each Archetype, st

  35. I have to admit that aside from an existing player within a social group alting over to play villain to the rest of the group as part of a plot, I have never once had a good experience with villains and heroes trying to organically just 'do' conflict in all the years of Live, or on HC. When no one really gets to know each other as players first, its very very easy to people to assume certain 'rules' or expectations and get upset or disappointed or hurt when the RP is based around one person/group antagonizing another. It's not even power or winning, it could be as little as someone expects a s

  36. It's absolutely fair and reasonable to NOT want to associate with players who you feel cross lines that ruin your personal enjoyment of the game. But short of harassment, we don't really need to police anyone here (and even then, handling harassment is best left to the GMs. Remember to report, and then do your best to move on in those cases). I tend to like to cavort around in the space which the ludonarrative dissonance generates in City when it comes to power levels. I have virtually no interest in playing as Incarnate characters, and in fact tend to go in the extreme opposi

I'm very impressed with what they've managed to create within the limitations of the AE, but we both agree their method of difficulty isn't ideal for the mainstream content, but I'm very glad their content exists to fulfill that niche for the players who want that style of difficulty.
