I have an iMac with High Sierra (can't install Mojave).  Until the update, I was able to get Island Rum to start CoH.  After the update it will not.  I have uninstalled, and re-installed Island Rum several times.  Island Rum starts and loads the manifest without error.  When I click on the blue triangle, the green checkmark appears, but after a minute or so, it disappears and CoH does not start at all.  No errors, it just won't run.

Installing Winetricks fixed this issue for me.  In Terminal, type "brew install winetricks" then reboot and see if it will launch then.

Island Rum auto-updates because I don't want to maintain and support a bunch of different versions.

I think that could have been solved by having a stickied Mac Support post stating to update Island Rum to the latest version to see if that solves your problem before asking your question.  At any rate though, I hope you can fix it at some point.

  3. I'm running Mac OS X Sierra (10.12.6) on a MBP A1286 (2.7ghz, 16gb RAM).  With last week's update, I ended up reinstalling the game from scratch, and it worked just fine.  Today's update killed the game.  My Island Rum could not find my install no matter what I tried.  So... I trashed my City of Heroes folder and reinstalled from scratch again.  Nothing.  The game does nothing.  No hits, no runs, no errors.  Reading through several posts, I deleted my .wine folder and that did nothing either.  No safe mode options either.

I'm going to uninstall wine, try another from scratch install and see if that makes a difference.  Did this and nothing.  Rebooted and tried this yet again.  Still absolutely nothing.

I really thought playing CoH again was way too good to be true.  Now at least for me it is.  Take care, folks.  I'll check back at some point and see if anything's gotten better.  Keep Paragon City safe for me.

  4. I really hope someone can help me.  I'm running Mac OS X Sierra.  I updated Island Rum and then it didn't see my CoH installation.  I found Manga's post in the Patch Notes thread and installed Homebrew and used it to install Wine.  Island Rum still didn't see my installation.  So I deleted my old CoH install and ran Island Rum again, this time it installed the game.  But...  Nothing happens when I try to launch the game.  Something happened and all the files that Island Rum "installed" are sitting in the CoH folder, not in the standard Wine-style hierarchy.  And the .exe files aren't set to be opened by Wine.  By that I mean, the default application to open those files isn't Wine.  The odd installation method used for Wine doesn't set .exe files to be opened with it, and I can't figure out where the Wine executable is to aim these particular .exe files at to work.

    Anyone?  Help?!?!?!?

  6. So earlier today I saw a little blurb go by in the chat window.  Something along the lines of ALERT! War Walkers have been spotted in Boomtown!

Needless to say, I was intrigued.  I went to Boomtown and checked it out.  There was a group that had already started the event and spawned the monster.  I joined in and later on, doing it with another character I got the details of how to do this.

    So...

Over by the Council Base map point and the Sewer Network entrance in the far Southwest corner of Boomtown there's a large square shaped pit.  If the event is running, you will see groups of Council troops in formation with War Walker bosses.  An event window (much like the one for the Clocky Pally) will appear on your screen.  Unlike the one for the Pally, this one works just fine.  It will tell you that 20 War Walkers are needed to be destroyed.  There's even a little "i" button that if you click will tell you straight up that killing the War Walkers will spawn a Goliath War Walker.  The Goliath War Walker spawns at the very bottom of the pit (there's a ramp system that will allow the GWW to walk up to the surface if needed).

Key points, There's like up to 8 or 9 War Walkers spawned at any one time.  You have to get all the troops surrounding the War Walker in addition for them to respawn, otherwise you won't get the 20 you need to get the big guy to come out to play.

You can do this on hard mode and get a bunch of people and knock the thing down like pretty much every other Giant Monster fight, or you can do it the easier way.  Just to the South of the pit under a roof is a Force Field Generator.  Kill that thing (it likes to stun people attacking it) and the GWW's insane regeneration rate goes away and a standard sized team can take him down.

So that's what I know for now.  I'll add more if I find out anything different.  Or, edit it to reflect what other people find out and post here.  War Machine is a pretty cool badge title and would definitely be a good fit for a lot of toons out there.  So, good luck and I hope to see you in game!

  7. So, as I promised in the Discord, here's what I've pieced together concerning the (reworked?) Pally event.

Back in the day, you used to get the Knight Errant Badge for stopping the Pally from being constructed.  At some point that changed so you got the Badge for stopping the Pally.  That is still true now.  You only need to defeat the Pally in order to get the Badge.

1st, to see if the Pally event is running, you have to go up to the cubby in the NW corner of Kings Row.  If the event is running, you'll know as soon as you cross into that section because an event window will pop up on your screen.

If the event window only shows the Pally's health at 100/100, the Pally is not spawned.  I do not know or understand what causes or triggers the Pally to spawn yet.  I'll update this if I figure it out.

However, if the event window shows you a bar labeled Property Damage, and a bar showing the number of Psionic Brass Conduits to be defeated, as well as the Pally's health... Congrats!  The Pally has spawned and you have a chance to get your badge!

There are 12 of the Psionic Brass Conduits and they all need to be defeated in order for you and your group (hopefully) to engage the Pally.  There are streams of energy from the Pally to each of them that can be seen from time to time (at least on my old Macbook Pro with meh graphics).  Follow the streams to find and destroy them.  They look like Clockwork Princes, but are fairly easy to destroy even for single characters of appropriate level for that part of Kings Row.  A quick reminder, the Conduits can be on rooftops, even very tall ones.

This part is theory, the bar of Collateral Damage may be the "timer" for how long the Pally is spawned.  While roaming around, he's consistently throwing off AoE damage.  Which is being totaled up on that bar, and at this point I'm thinking that if the bar reaches its max, 10k, that the Pally despawns.  The more Conduits that are up, the faster he does Collateral, or so it seems.  It's Property Damage, not Collateral, and it shows in the Event window as an Optional quest goal.  What the particular reward for that is, I'm not sure yet.

So if you get the window, and the telltales are there for the Pally to actually be spawned, make sure to get the Conduits quickly!  They can be on the roofs of nearby buildings as well as on the ground.  Also, they do not need to be in direct line of sight to the Pally.

Please feel free to point out things I've missed or gotten wrong, or if you think I've been drinking drano again.  Knight Errant is a great Badge Title and it comes with a 5 use Clocky Knight pet.

Further event info, when the Pally is defeated a new Optional quest goal shows, "Free the Shining Stars" and there is an Elite Boss Clocky at the map spot where they are standing named Knight-Errant.  My working theory is that he spawns when the Pally is actually engaged.  Will add more when I figure it out.

    ~And so it goes...
