  1. This is heresy, but...

I've always felt that one effective way to address this problem is to increase the damage differential between single-target and AoEs.  Whether this would involve nerfing AoEs or buffing single-target attacks (and enemy hit points, thus effectively nerfing AoEs), I can't speculate.  Maybe just dramatically increasing the END cost or cooldown of AoEs would be sufficient.  In the genre, AoEs often are depicted as requiring ultimate effort from the protagonist and leaving them drained afterward,

A very large part, if not the entire part, of the problem of teams blowing through crowds is due to being able to effect, and kill, crowds with a few clicks and subsequently not much animation time.  And yet the superhero movies and comics we love feature predominantly single-target attacks for most of their dramatic effect.  AoEs exist, but are mostly used to dispose of minor threats ("trash") before the plot moves on to  duel with the big bad.  Crowds are terrifying UNLESS you have AoEs, in which case they're exciting targets but trivial threats.  In real life, of course, being outnumbered was dangerous...at least until the era of weapons of mass destruction, explosive shells and machine guns.

If most of the work of bringing down mobs had to be single-target in nature, crowd fights would take longer and be scarier, but individual defeats of each bad guy would remain satisfying.  Debuffs and buffs would matter more.

I realize AoE is ingrained in the playerbase at this point.  I don't expect my idea to be adopted, but it does address the key problem and it would improve the experience.

Yes.  PT's proc is lousy in an actual power, in my experience.  Contrary to what @Frostweaver experienced, most people get the "oh... that it?" response to it in their powers.  Maybe at one point it proc'd off multiple hits (like the sleep proc used to), but as far as I know both +heal procs were changed to go off only once in an AoE.  Therefore, the folks that do math experimented and it turned out that PT proc in stamina was the best use of it (esp. for high base-hp toons).

Thanks, that seems to align with what I've experienced.

I would like to point out that the new power transfer chance to heal self, absolutely kicks butt when slotted into both ice and EA's Energy Drain. To the point where I sometimes just.... skip EA's heal altogether. (Not ice though! It's perma double HP!) although I don't do that often, since it's good for emergency spikes while the ED heal just keeps up easily with casual dps penetration.

I slotted the Power Transfer chance to heal self into a Scrapper's Energy Drain and so far I haven't seen any effect from it.  Am I doing it wrong or is my sample size too small?   Should I move the slot to Stamina instead?

  4. So Energize gives you a discount on endurance while it is active.

Is this a true discount on the base cost?  I.e., not just adding percentage to your End Reduction slotting and potentially being limited by ED diminishing returns?  Or am I making no sense?

Currently level 23 Eng/Eng Blaster.  Energize is slotted with 2 Healing/Recharge set pieces for 39.6% more healing and recharge.  Is Energize slottable for End Mod to get a better endurance discount?

Speaking of which, what is the discount anyway?  Why do I see different numbers for it everywhere I look in game?

Under Enhancements screen "show detailed info":

    97.60 %% Strength to Endurance for 1 m 0 s

Under Monitor Combat Attributes, Endurance Discount:

    -49.38 % from self

Right mouse on power icon in upper right:

    Endurance Discount:  -66.32%

And after seeing the joy of /ah go ahead and add a base code to your base (which costs nothing to build as crazy as you like) and then create a macro button for it using /macro BASE enterbasefrompasscode <whatever your base code is here>

Your free base which does not require prestige.

However, I feel that the best approach is for you to simply interject and challenge others when you see them stating things in chat you feel are wrong.

Bentley my friend, I like your suggestion.  But was it really necessary to quote the entire OP in a response on the first page, where the OP itself is still visible for reference?  🤔

When a melee powerset has 1 AoE attack ... it's an ALL OR NOTHING proposition whether or not that 1 AoE attack ought to be granted to Stalkers.

Dragon's Tail in Martial Arts is such a case.

    I say yes.

    You say no.

Now, if none of the Stalker primaries had any AoE attacks allowed in them, I'd say you have a leg to stand on ... but since that's obviously not true ...

This seems like an aggressive response.

Remove Crane Kick (redundant) and replace with Dragon's Tail (NEEDED!!!) for Stalkers.

One of the few clear distinctions made between Scrappers and Stalkers is that Stalkers get less AoE and are somewhat harder-hitting vs single targets.  Giving them all the AoE in one Scrapper set seems to alter this design decision.

Now if the solution were to give MA for Scrappers MORE AoE, I have no problem sharing some of it with Stalkers.  🙂

  9. So is "/buildsave" working currently?  It said "BuildSaved" when I ran it, but there's no build in the directory Mid's points to (I put that under Documents) *or* the place COH is loaded (C:\apps\homecoming).

I just found out about it today and I would love to get it working.

Whoops, I think I found it... there's a <username> directory OUTSIDE the hiomecoming folder for some reason, and that has a "builds" folder.  But the Build.txt file doesn't load into Mid's with "open," am I doing something wrong?

  10. So when looking at my salvage types, just to the right of Invention salvage is a tab for Legacy salvage.  It's empty.  As far as I know, everyone's Legacy salvage tab is empty, because legacy salvage was disabled during live, and the tab existed only for leftovers people had not used up yet.  No one on ANY modern server has Legacy salvage, unless there's something I'm missing.

And yet there sits the tab, forcing me to expand the window or work my way over to the Special salvage tab to the right of it, which actually IS useful.

I do not know how difficult re-coding the UI would be, but it would be a minor convenience if this vestigial tab could be removed.

    P.S.:

and there totally needs to be a "Rainbow Domination" primary with a supporting "Lollipop assault" secondary.  Of course the Lollipop mace is the big scary eye-catcher, but it's the throwing lollipops that you've really gotta watch out for.

It's in MY HAIR, isn't it?!?  It's in my haaaaaairrrrr!!!!

Not in the strictest sense, but since you're getting something pretty valuable for little to no effort compared to most MMO's, I'd say it's as close to free as you can get. 😛

Running the merits might be less effort than persuading our team to change the code to give out free purples.

  13. I guess I'm just not cut out to be a villain, because the question doesn't move me.  Why would we (collectively) want to increase villain population?  A significant portion of the hero side pop is hero side because they don't want to be villains.  I can understand why a given player might want more company v-side.  But as an organization,  Homecoming seems to be all about indulging individual preferences.  Why would Homecoming try to change what people play?

Furthermore I  constantly see people concerned about the population overall, heroside included.   Unless we're bringing in new, villain-only players, any increase reside just comes out of blue side, which is already nervous about losing players.

Real life is chock-full of villains.   I come here to punch them because the consequences of assault are daunting.

Redsiders, please have your fun and don't mind me, I'm just cranky.

  14. Stone/Electric Tanker?  Tanker because the city is vast and cannot be destroyed.  This would enable you to do Lightning Rod while in Granite form, which should be amusing...every couple of minutes.
