  1. I find Titan Weapons to be excellent as a tank. I really only use the 3 cone attacks, the PBAoE that requires momentum, and rend armor (I don't have mids at work to get the exact names). I've also got the set-equivalent of Parry, but don't frequently use it (my Def is high enough that is only matters in extremely hard content). The major benefit, I think, from a tanking point of view is that most of these AoE attacks will knock mobs down. That's amazing, its a huge boon to tanking, as time they're getting up is time no one is taking damage from them. Obviously that doesn't work on AVs or GMs, but for everything else, its excellent. It was essential during leveling when set bonuses weren't all online, at 50+ it is still useful to give everyone a bit of breathing room. All of this doesn't excuse the momentum mechanic, which doesn't feel great with the slow wind-ups, I'll admit. Also, as a previous poster pointed out, sometimes it means that stuff dies before you finish animating, which also doesn't feel great. But, again, tanking isn't always about the damage, its about keeping everyone alive, and for that task, Titan Weapons is great.
  2. I'll echo Force Redux's sentiment for Bots/Traps. I'm 30 levels in now and Maint Drone feels critical to keeping the bots up in extended engagements and is nice for topping them off between engagements too (though you can also just resummon between engagements, particularly if you're solo). That said, I'm almost completely unslotted, so maybe it'll be different once I've got some more serious defensive slotting online. As it is, Protectors and my FF drone do a good job keeping a lot of attacks off the bots and MaintDrone fixes up the ones that make it through, or top the bots off after I take a hit (or an alpha) in BGM.
  3. I always sort of liked the idea of Stone Armor, even before its revamp. There was just something so inherently solid-feeling about it. I made a few low-level ones back during live but never had the chance to bring them up completely before the end. I considered it again here on Homecoming but ended up dragging my feet until recently. Then I created Pax Aeternus. This build had three main goals. First, try out the new revisions to Stone Armor. Second, try out Titan Weapons, which I see a lot but had never really played. Third, make a very solid all-around tank good for virtually any situation. This is the result. I drew on builds created by several other players that I found around the forums and a few more that were sent directly to me, so some of this may look a little familiar to the discerning build connoisseur. Currently, Pax Aeternus is level 50 with only a Tier 2 Alpha Incarnate power (Vigor Radial Boost, in this case). Some notes, as I leveled I actually did have Crushing Blow, though I eventually respec'd out of it as I could make a full attack rotation out of the later attacks in Titan Weapons. The focus, as I think it should be with TW, is on cone and AOE attacks, which provide both wide damage application (particularly on a tank), and extra mitigation in the form of delicious knockdown. That said, if exemplaring into lower levels extensively, it might be worthwhile to use a 2nd build slot to make an exemp-specific build with an extra attack power or two. Pool powers are pretty bog-standard, and I considered trying to work in Teleportation up to Fold Space originally (as Stone Armor+TP is a pretty classic combination), though this was dropped as I discovered that revisions to Stone Armor didn't strictly require it anymore. Super Speed and Tactics could probably be dropped for two TP powers if you want that old-school feel, but you'd lose the Slow Resist from Winter's Gift in SS and wouldn't be able to fit in Fold Space without dropping an additional power from somewhere (probably Granite Armor, which is more of a novelty than a requirement for the vast majority of situations) - I decided it wasn't that necessary given Mud Pot's very solid Threat generation combined with Gauntlet and all of the cone and aoe attacks I already had - with the addition of Taunt to pull in anything else, threat is a non-problem. Tanker - Stone Armor - Titan Weapons.mxd
  4. Maybe a bit of a hijack, but I've been eyeing plant control for a long while and I haven't ever tried any variation on Savage - do they pair well together on a dominator?
  5. I wanted to bump this thread. I was away from the game for a month or two but came back and have been leveling a Fire/Earth Dom. It's been pretty great. I just hit 50, so I'm still having some endurance issues (IOs have helped a bit, but I still run dry if I don't throttle myself), so I'm looking forward to getting Destiny unlocked to help endurance recovery. The damage is great and the incoming damage, now that I've got some defense, is usually manageable. I went with the petless build. Mine's more or less the same as the build in the first post of this thread, though sans purple sets, which I've subbed out for nearest equivalent recharge bonuses. Still working on collecting a few sets (I don't have my ATOs yet and I need a few more procs to put in some empty slots), but its been really fun to play. I can't get enough of crunchy earth assault attacks.
  6. Talos is a really great transport hub now. The base teleporter drops you down literally right behind Luminary, which of course is right next to the tram and a TUNNEL portal. The Oro arrival location is only slightly further away on top of The Hill, of course. Pretty easy access to most locations right there. Edit: Also a note about Steel Canyon. Someone mentioned it dumping you on the north end of the map. I don't have a base with a Steel Canyon portal on beta right now, but the portal is in the middle next to the giant statue, so you should arrive there now, not over by the north side construction area.
  7. I sort of feel like way too many people are trying to critique these powers without actually using them. Here's some of what I've found. I didn't see it posted anywhere, so Fold Space (or rather Shadow Slip, which is what I've actually been testing) has a short 1.67s activation and does not appear to be interruptable (though the tooltips says it takes both interruption and range enhancements, I know it does not take range, I didn't even try interruption). It also has line of sight checks. While I'm testing out this warshade, I mostly main a Grav/Time controller, so I had concerns vis-a-vis Wormhole as well. This power is just... different. First, its not targeted. It'll grab everything in range up to its target limit. Second, there's no crowd control applied. While I've always been chagrined by putting a KB->KD enhancement in wormhole, this doesn't knock them down or stun them. They're just... there. Around you. As a warshade, this is actually pretty great, as you can immediately eclipse and then mire them and are all-but-guaranteed to have most of them in range for it. Third, like I said, it has line of sight checks. I tested this quite a bit running around in PI, which has quite a few low walls and other obstructions. Shadow Slip (ie: Fold Space) will not grab targets you don't have line of sight to. This is good and bad I think. Wormhole (as some of you are surely aware) doesn't really care about LoS - you can grab mobs through walls in other rooms or around corners, no problem. Fold Space won't. Its a nice tool to either re-group a scattered pull or, as a warshade at least, immediately group up some dudes to fire your Eclipse at, but I don't think its a total replacement for wormhole. Having both would give you options, for sure, but Fold Space, as mentioned by other posters, is dangerous if you don't have some defenses up - they're pretty much going to immediately start attacking. (Wormhole, of course, is no-notify, and so with sufficient stealth, they might not even react to that.) Fold Space does notify targets, so if solo, they'll agro you immediately. I haven't tested on a team, they might get distracted by taunt aura or the like though. -=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=- Combat Teleport (or rather Starless Step, as I was on a Warshade) feels sort of pointless. It will be FANTASTIC for Stoners and any other characters with significant movement impairments slapped on them, but it sort of just doesn't feel necessary to me. Sure, its cheap and with even a little recharge (in my case, just global and from haste) it recharges -very- quickly (I only run out of charges if I try to spam it). But.... I don't need this as a Warshade, and I don't think I'd need it on most other characters either. The To-Hit buff does stack, for what its worth, though the duration is pretty quick. Its not something you'd try to actively stack in most cases because you'd be teleporting rather than, you know, killing stuff. As a warshade, it'd be a nice perk if it were an inherent, but when this patch makes it to live, I wouldn't pick it pretty much ever. I do agree that it might have more utility if it replaced the Dwarf teleport, though. Fold Space (ie: Shadow Slip) would be pretty nice in Dwarf form too, I agree, though I don't think its as necessary or as critical as several other posters seem to be portraying it. A text error. Starless Step has text specifying that it does not take Range enhancements twice: " Note that Starless is unaffected by Range changes. Note that Starless Step is unaffected by Range changes." A quirk I noticed: Combat Teleport does not reorient you. If you target it behind you or something, you just scoot back, but you remain facing the same direction. In short, Combat Teleport is... okay.... but I wouldn't waste a power pick for it on pretty much anything but a stone armor character (for whom, I'll again stress, it will be G-R-E-A-T).
  8. This is exactly what I used it for last week. We also use it pretty extensively to collect the group in iTrials or to dodge green stuff in KIR. Mostly, it has a use as an ATT with a much shorter cooldown and instant activation.
  9. With feedback, I've tweaked the build a bit. I did really want the Experimentation pool on this character (and my leveling build has it just to play around with some of the powers), but wasn't quite sure how to fit it in. This switches back to that, moves some slots around, and drops a few things to make room. Having read some other threads about the pool, I'm not quite ready to buy into Corrosive Vial. Also, I don't want to drop the Leadership powers because they're very strong on Defenders. I'm also willing to gamble on not needing quite as much built-in defense, as the Poison debuffs help to make up quite a lot of difference. Venomous Gas autohits their to-hit down by around 19% all on its own, which has the function of substantially increasing melee defense. Weaken can further debuff their to-hit, functionally capping most defenses against the primary target. I guess we'll see. I want to play it a bit at the high end to get a feel for whether it needs more built-in or not. I'm not too interested in soloing in general, so my hope is that there'll usually be someone else on the team soaking up agro for me, and the Leadership buffs will help them to do that. 10. I've been leveling a Bio/TW tanker and was looking around for a build. Despite lots of people talking about this combination, I could find very few build examples. Plenty of examples for both Bio/something and something/TW, so I picked out bits and pieces and tried to make a cohesive whole. This build is a planned end-game build, primarily because it skips out on so many early attacks. (Defense Sweep and Follow Through hardly constitute a complete attack chain.) I've never played either set to higher levels than my tanker currently is (level 29), so I don't have a great feel for how some of the later attacks work out. 11. So after reading the Poison guide and some other threads that talk about the power set, I decided I wanted to try it out for myself. I opted to pair it with Dual Pistols, another set I've never played (despite its popularity). I used a bit of the information I found in the related threads to put this build together, but I've only just started leveling my Defender (really, more of an Offender), and its only up to the mid-20s. As a result, I don't know how sound these picks are. Please, let me know if I'm doing something wrong, or could have made some better choices. 12. In a thread back in roughly February, I came up with a build and, subsequent to some advice I recieved there, I've updated it to the following build. As a caveat, I then spent several months playing other games and finishing my thesis before circling back to CoH, so I've not actually had a chance to fully impliment the build in game and see how it goes. My Sentinel is currently level 39 and is my next major project to throw influence at, so I'll try to remember to update if things don't turn out as expected. 13. I'm going to jump on the human-only WS build bandwagon. I've got a triform build I use and am very fond of. I'd like to use my second build slot for a human-only build and I've been reading over other folk's builds to get some inspiration and some advice on how to do it. Notes about this build. Most of the time, it will run with Tough and Gravity Shield off and rely on Eclipse for resistances. In the event of an extended combat without available targets to refresh Eclipse (ie: AVs, GMs, etc), flip on Tough and Gravity Shield for ~75% S/L resists. I built with an eye toward both Recharge and Melee Defense, trying not to sacrifice too much of one for the other (as I think too many builds do). To that end, there's some RNG built into the recharge, as both Shadow Blast and Gravitic Emanation have FF procs slotted to help boost recharge times. Without them, Hasten (and thus Eclipse) are not permanent, though, as previously mentioned, there are contingencies built in to help alleviate this (assuming there's time to implement them during combat :P). If not, well, that's what Stygian Return is for. This build isn't really meant for anything but level 40-50+ content, for anything lower I'd almost certainly swap back over to my TriForm build. Eclipse maxes all resists but Tox/Psi at 4 targets (tox/psi are at 83.69% with 4 targets), and everything at 5. Leadership slotting (and, let's face it, being a Warshade) mean rolling with a team is ideal to exploit the increased proc chances on Gaussian's proc and the WS inherent. Gravitic Emanation retains the 'cosmic shotgun' character of the version in my TriForm build that I enjoy so much, though it swaps one of the damage procs for KB->KD to help keep things grouped together (more critical here than on my triform build). This build uses no purple sets, as those are generally outside of my price range. If I really like the build, I may gradually include them and shuffle around the winter and ATO sets. Purple sets would help close the hasten gap with superior recharge bonuses, but I believe this will do fine without them. |-------------------------------------------------------------------| Here's my TriForm build if anyone's curious.
  14. Here's the build I use. I drop Volcanic Gasses because I just wasn't ever using it and replaced it with Thunder Clap, which, though it has a lower mag than most controller stuns, stacks with them. Also I love the Thunder Clap animation. It has half the rechage of Stalagmites, so I use it pretty frequently. Its safe, too, because of the faceplant loop that FR+EQ+Tornado will put everything in. I am quite fond of KB->KD enhancements, as this build shows, but they do a great job of actually letting you control. Some judicious use of Hurricane can help keep mobs grouped tightly to be AOE'd down. This build is capable of substantial solo damage, mostly single-target, but still surprising when I first finished it. Seismic Smash on a controlled target is not to be underestimated. I was able to solo my Mender Ramiel missions with only a little trouble on the last mission (I think I died twice?). This doesn't include incarnates in the build. I went with Intuition Radial for the debuff enhancements and damage buff, Reactive Core for the resistance debuff (something the set doesn't have natively, but you can slot and add this to get some of), Ion Core Judgement (of course, lightning, and also damage, don't really care about the extra control chance on a controller), Clarion Core Destiny (finally some mez prots), I've got Banished Panthon and Storm Elemental Lore pets both, BP for somewhat more hardcore material and Storm Elementals because... more storm. Finally I went with Support Core for Hybrid slot. Hero Plan by Mids' Reborn : Hero Designer 2.6.1.25 https://github.com/Crytilis/mids-reborn-hero-designer Click this DataLink to open the build! 15. The only real downside to these changes seems to be figuring out where to pull 3 more slots in my build from other stuff to feed my new Dark Consumption addiction.
  16. A note on the xp - if you're in Praetoria mostly for story and not for challenge, I've found that you can grab the double xp booster, set difficulty to level-1 and you pretty much keep pace with the missions you're getting. You may actually fall a bit behind as a Stalker if you're skipping a lot of combat.
  17. Hmm, would it be better, then, to swap the slotting of Instant Healing and Recon's sets. Then, at least, the Numina proc is in a toggle. The advice about the second Performance Shifter proc is good. I'm never quite sure when it outperforms just having a higher base. I should probably run the math on it some time so I know the threshold, but I just haven't. Its relatively rare that I play something that gets a Quick Recovery-like power to take advantage of it in the first place.
  18. In seeking out a good BR/Regen build a read quite a few different builds for either BR/something or something/Regen but never found a BR/Regen I liked. So I stole things from several different builds across several different threads and crammed them all together to make this. How does it seem? I have essentially no experience with the Sentinel AT in general and none with either of these two power sets in particular, so I really don't have a good feel for whether it is any good. Any advice or suggestions would be helpful. Hero Plan by Mids' Reborn : Hero Designer 2.6.0.7 https://github.com/ImaginaryDevelopment/imaginary-hero-designer Click this DataLink to open the build! 19. I am unreasonably excited about this. I thought it might have been intentionally removed because of people complaining about the screen shake or something that it induces.
  20. While we're at it, can we also get a no-redraw costume option for VEAT weapons? 😛
  21. Or just slot in a Sudden Acceleration KB->KD and not worry about the KB at all! That's what I do. Mine's Grav/Time, but I also tend to do this. Work on a pack a bit then, when its down under half its original population, scoot ahead and wormhole in the next pack back to the group. I feel like it helps speed things up and sort of eliminates alpha strikes (which, admitedly, aren't really an issue in high level content but can be in the 21-35ish game still, which an Examplared Grav/ still has access to Wormhole for).
  22. Yeah, my testing suggested that this was basically the case for toggles like Maneuvers. It does provide a bit of a buff, but that buff is short lived, unlike the Farsight enhancement.
  23. It very well could be, but it doesn't appear that it does that in-game, at least not if those powers are already toggled on when you fire Power Boost. I should probably test to see if it boosts them if they're toggled on within the Power Boost window because, heck, if so, free extra defense, right?
  24. Well, you are, but also I was misremembering what I had slotted in Wormhole. It isn't Overwhelming Force (which isn't that great in Wormhole since Wormhole doesn't do any damage), its Overpowering Presence, the Controller ATO set (5 of it). I took the Energy Font proc and put it in Distortion Field since I tend to use that more frequently than Wormhole and that gets me more of the Fonts out doing... whatever it is exactly that they do. So, to clarify, in my build I have: Distortion Field - 5 slots: Basilisk's Gaze 4, Overpowering Presence (Energy Font proc) Wormhole - 6 slots: 5 Overpowering Presence, 1 Sudden Acceleration KB->KD converter Singularity - 6 slots: 4 Expedient Reinforcement, 1 Soulbound Allegiance Build Up proc, 1 Overwhelming Force Knockdown Proc (KB->KD converter). Yes, I don't get the 6 slot bonus for Overpowering Presence, no it doesn't really matter. I use a Power Boost build, so with Power Boost + Farsight, I'm way over the Incarnate softcap anyway (Mids says 66.1% def all and higher for Nrg/Neg/Ranged). Even without Power Boost I'm at 44.5% ranged defense (and I hover all the time, to minimize melee attacks), so I'm generally in good shape for most content. Edit: So I thought those numbers were a bit high. I logged in and looked at the numbers I actually get. My Power Boosted Ranged Def is closer to 42% with 34.5% for all others. Not sure what Mids is doing with the power boost numbers. Regardles, I've found it to be quite sufficient, particularly on teams where I'm rarely the primary target.
