Hard Mode ITF (even 2*) will do that to you.  Inv's 50% DDR is usually golden for 99.999% of content, but the cascading debuffs will overcome it.  The devs did a great job in pushing teamwork and the need for various ATs and support (or rotating Incarnate powers), so nothing's really lacking.  NUT's footstomp helps mitigate, but even the strongest Inv tank in my stable can't handle 2* on their own.  The build you posted is great (as usual).

HM ITF doesn't even really need a tank, now.

Devs did a good job of pushing teamwork, but not the need of various ATs.  As you mentioned, I've been in HM teams where I have tanked and wasn't needed. What has resulted is certain ATs and powersets being prominent over others when it comes to HM...such as defenders, corruptors and cold domination, nature and elec powersets. Controllers, Scrappers, and even Tanks have a hard time joining HM teams.

  4. I strongly suggest you consider an Earth/Cold Controller. I play one on HM ITFs and it is a game changer. The strongest Control primary (Earth) with one of the most sought after power sets for HM ITFs (Cold).

    • 3 AOE slow powers---stack them and watch them crawl.
    • Drop Earthquake on top of the 3 AOE slow powers and the only things that will be crawling will be EBs, rest will just KD over and over.
    • If you still want overkill, drop your AOE hold on top of that---Volcanic Gases.
    • If you're STILL unsatisfied with the above, dish out your AOE stun---Stalagmites.

By now, your other AOE slows will have recharged. Repeat over and over.

In addition to above, you will have defense buffs (Ice and Glacial Shields) for your team AND a crazy good End buff (Heat Loss).

Not enough? No problem! You get an additional 2 single target debuff powers which also slows baddies (Benumb and Infrigidate).

The most awesome thing? You can play it fully ranged! Even Heat Loss will give you a single stack if you're far.

    It is an absolute beast.

  5. Outside of Stone Armor, SD/DM seems to be a popular combo. That being said, has anyone tried SR/ICE? I love ice powers, especially Ice Patch. Over capped defenses with Ice Patch seems like it would do well in HM ITFs, no? I know Ice doesn't have a heal, but I've played too many DM toons at this point and have had my fill!

I don't have any advice on the build, but I may be able to help with Mids, as I am also on Linux.  The first thing you want to do is make sure your WINE is up to date.  Then download the zip file for Mids (not the installer).  From there, unzip the file, then in terminal, go to the Mids folder and run wine (mids file name)

I don't remember if your need the .exe at the end of the command or not.  There is also a way to make this user-friendly using your GUI, but I'm on my phone right now, so I can't check exactly how it's done.

edit: Here's how to make a desktop shortcut.  create a new text file on your desktop then put the following in there

    [Desktop Entry]
    Name=MidsReborn
    Exec=wine "<file path>/MidsReborn.exe"
    Icon=<file Path>/Images/Unknown.png
    Type=Application
    Categories=Wine;

    Then save it as MidsReborn.desktop.

From there, you may have to right click and choose "Run as program"

Alternately, if using Ubuntu (only one I've tried on) you can save this file into Home/<user>/.local/share/applications   This will put it in your app drawer.

I can get it to run but it does not display properly. I may just have to run a windows VM to run it.

  7. Hello all,

I'm running Linux and am having trouble getting Mid's to work. It's a work in progress, so I was just wondering if anyone had an inv/dm tank build that's HM ITF worthy that they are willing to share. For this toon, I don't care at all to do damage. Pure tanking and keeping aggro is the goal.

Since Mid's isn't working for me currently, attached are the screenshots of the current setup.

Tyvm in advance for any help.

    Heya Dez!

Stone is pretty tough to kill.  I run a Stone/Spines AFK Psionic Farm, which is fun.  Not the most efficient thing in the world, but it's fun to do.

For your question, here is a tank similar to mine.  Everyone, feel free to posit stuff, just throwing this out as an idea response.

    POWERSETS

    • Stone Armor
      • Stone Skin, Granite Armor, Rooted, Earth's Embrace
    • Dark Melee
      • -ToHit and a Heal
    • Soul Epic
      • Darkest Night and Dark Obliteration

    INCARNATES

    • Alpha - Agility Core Paragon (EndMod, Def, Rech)
    • Judgment - Void Radial Final Judgement (50% -DMG effect)
    • Interface - Paralytic Radial Flawless Interface (5% -DMG effect - stackable)
    • Lore - Storm Elemental Radial Superior Ally
    • Destiny - Ageless Radial Epiphany (for Debuff Resistances)
    • Hybrid - Melee Radial Embodiment (for Defense & Regen bonuses)

    RESISTANCE + "-DMG" STACKING

    • Get to Resistance cap 90%
    • Add -DMG attacks (Darkest Night, Paralytic stacking) to further floor damage output before resistance kicks in

    DEFENSE + "-TOHIT" STACKING

    • Get defense pretty high, ~45-50% (non-Psi)
    • Dark Melee and Soul Epic add lots of -ToHit

    HEAL & REGEN

    • Rooted, Earth's Embrace, Life Drain
    • Melee Radial for tanking nasty mobs

    MEZ & DEBUFFS

    • Granite + Rooted = very protected
    • Pool Powers like Tactics help as well
    • IO Set Bonuses and Uniques help also
    • Ageless Radial can be used as a "get out debuff free" card

Anyway, fun question.  Hope I contributed.

    Hey Cen,

Interesting, this combo crossed my mind. The only tank I've been playing is a Inv/DM, so definitely thinking more than once about moving to a secondary without a heal.

  9. 3 minutes ago, ihatethewind said:

SR is great for incarnate content, easy to hit 59% and you are basically immune to def debuffs. Dark melee is a nice pair with the heal but if you wanted some variety I bet energy melee would be great. After the rework it’s very good and has lost of stuns potential if that’s your thing.

Also to @Werner ‘s point, yes if you take rune and barrier/melee hybrid incarnates

and alternate them you can do some impressive things, but for most content it’s overkill.

I like overkill actually, lol! So definitely interested in the impressive things as far as tanking is concerned. I don't care to do dmg when playing a tank, so that's not a concern at all.

  10. 8 minutes ago, Werner said:

I don’t actually have an SR Tanker, just a DM/SR Brute. SR is much tougher on Tankers though. Incarnate content shouldn’t be much different from normal content since it’s so easy to incarnate soft cap your defense. I’d say SR/Staff since staff can add resistance, and high resistance to stack with the scaling resistance is your secret sauce. You want to hard cap resists with as many hit points left as possible. SR/DM would also be good for the extra healing. I tested SR/Staff on beta. It seemed to be as tough as my Shield/MA, so very tough, but the single target DPS sucked, so I abandoned the idea since I mostly solo. SR was a recommendation for AFK since it can be very tough with no clicking. But I have it on good authority ( @Linea) that it can be made ridiculously tough with lots of clicking by juggling lots of +resist powers. Hard to drive, I hear, but silly good when driven well.

Seems like Claws, EM and DM are good with it as well but didn't think Staff would. So many good secondaries.

  11. 17 minutes ago, Werner said:

If you literally want to AFK Tank, I’d say Super Reflexes built for high resistance with your mez protection on auto. Otherwise my personal pick for non-incarnate content would be Invulnerability/Dark Melee. You’re already there, so maybe just a different build? For incarnate content maybe Invuln/Martial Arts, trading some healing for higher defense. But yeah, Stone should be right up there too, possibly on top, I just haven’t played Stone. Shield/Martial Arts is what I play, and it’s very durable, but I do think it’s taking a step down on the survivability scale for more damage output. Also has too much defense outside of incarnate content. But I’m not sure I’m answering this right. If solo, you need some damage output. And on a team, you have lots of support, and it may be that some other Tanker would be more survivable in that context. I’m used to evaluating what sets can do with no support. And with no inspirations for that matter. But I suppose that even making a team Tanker, I’d build for as tough as possible without support since you can’t be certain what a team will have.

SR tank sounds interesting. Have you played incarnate content with it? How does it hold up? Good secondary to boost survival with it? Out of the secondaries, are there any powers that has a good chance of disorienting AVs?

  12. 4 minutes ago, The_Warpact said:

Here's some links, everyone is going to give a different answer. But, obviously you'll notice a trend at least I did, SD/EM seems to be a clear contender for the best imo.

Agreed, there will be various suggestions. I was expecting Stone to be at the top but I haven't played all powersets.

  13. Title says it all! Any build/suggestions? I've got a Inv/DM that's pretty tough but it's never enough. Looking to fall asleep without concern while standing in front of LR. Don't care for DPS. Want to make a purebred tank. Hit me!

Knock back...it's part of being a superhero.  Punch.  Send villain flying.

    'Super.'

As for repulsion bomb.  I'd like to see it really turned into a bomb.  It's a real duffer power.  A 'no take' from me on my L50 Defender.

It's not like you have an embarrassment of riches with which to do damage with in the set.

I love FF.  My 1st Defender was FF/En.  I've re-rolled it about 4 times.  The last version is a +4 x8 masterpiece on HC servers.

    Love.  It.

    It's loaded with knockback.  ofc.

    Azrael.

Haha nice! I made one recently and was denied a join to an MLTF because of my powersets. Toon said he/she didn't like bubbles and knockback. *shrug*

I have been using it on PopOS which is based off Ubuntu which is branched off Debian, so you should be able to get it going just by following the basic instructions.  I don't recall having to do anything special to get it working.

I hope so. Want to get it running on a non-rolling release/stable distro.

    I have one Cold/Dark defender.
I recommend Cold/Dark if you also solo, not just team.  However Dark works very well even if on teams.
The to hit debuffs are great when paired up with decent amount of defenses.
The heal is good and it recharges quick, and if you take an EPIC with power boost , that heal becomes even greater , and also your to hit debuffs.

Thanks to the debuffs and the heal, you can solo AVs at 54 with the Defender with more safety than other blast sets.

I am not saying it is the best, but it has amazing utility and still good dmg.

Do you have a build for Cold/Dark that you can post please? TY.

  17. I asked Cen to help me with this build. It's my first Dominator and my playstyle most likely doesn't optimize the AT fully.

I enjoy teaming and you seldom come across teams where the tank understands aggro cap mechanics or doesn't care to play accordingly, so they'd aggro multiple groups and once aggro cap is reached, the squishies take heat. Also, there is ALWAYS that one toon on a team that wants to go try tank another group solo and when they can't, you get heat from the mob aggroed by that toon. It is for this reason I like ranged Def. I would say that ranged def isn't as important on a Dom if you're only soloing. But if you're teaming, it's essential for survival because you need to account for the unexpected aggro from teammates.

So the build posted by Cen is centered around my playstyle. :)

Being my first toon with Mind power set, Cen provided some eye-opening knowledge and strategies on Mind powers. Ty Cen.
