  1. No, there are no worries here. Play together freely. Correct, and even during low population times you're still limited to 3 accounts per person.
  2. Interesting point. For anyone with specific, individual long-term commitments like these, open a ticket or send us a message - we can probably make the account immune for a set duration (provided: at least one character's name will expire in that duration and the duration is not ridiculously long). Realistically I don't think this will be an issue. Even if you do a 365, you can probably log in at least once when you get some R&R and fire up your computer. Or tell a friend back home to log in once or something. But yeah, not opposed to it so let us know if it comes up.
  3. The game does not use character name and global interchangeably. Globals only exist for the purposes of the chat server - they have nothing to do with character data. This solution would be ideal, and obviously literally anything can be coded into anything else, but there is no expectation for this anytime soon.
  4. You'd think so, but.. there fundamentally isn't. You want to know the biggest reason? On the test server last week, the highest concurrent players was 2800. When Torchbearer launched, they hit 3400 on day one. You want to know how many people were trying to log in (and, if possible, would have been playing concurrently?) 8,000. We simply can't scale that rapidly, period. This method allows some people the ability to play, which is better than nothing. Maybe you aren't one of the lucky ones and I am fundamentally sorry., but look at it from an everyone perspective, not a you perspective. We simply can't support the demand at this point, period. I wish we had but a better answer, but the devs have improved stability and added features literally every day this server has existed. Have some patience. Bear with us.
  5. So I said this is Discord a few times, but I'll put it here (I also said I was going to bed, rip). I absolutely, fundamentally hate that we can't all be playing right now, together. I hate that people have to sit in a queue at all. But right now, we have to. It's the only way to keep the servers alive at all. And I really, really, really hate that people spend so much time sitting in a queue to then get an error or mapserved and kicked in 5-10 minutes and go right back to the end. I was talking to people in chat about it and it seriously made me want to cry. I love this game, I know you guys do too, and I want us all to be able to enjoy it again. I promise the devs and admins are aware of the issues and concerns. And I promise they're working on solutions to improve literally everything. Is this ideal? Obviously not. But it gives the servers some semblance of stability so they don't have to restart every couple hours. Because restarting servers takes up their time. So instead of doing upgrades and improvements, they're stuck with basic maintenance and spinning it up. We don't want that to be their time sink for now. Everything will get better. Please remember this server was stood up.. what, like 4 and a half days ago? And there are maybe 7-8k people trying to log in at the same time. That's absolutely incredible. Our player base is growing faster than our hardware, so for anyone saying "well it was fine two days ago," we literally have twice as many people trying to get in. It is not, and has not, been fine. And that's okay, we're getting there. Be patient. Hit the queue and go for a run. Call your mum. Remote in and see where you're at, and adjust. And if you can't do that, that's fine too. We all want to play, but maybe take another week to give us a chance to get better. Or for someone else to pop up another server, which will happen eventually. Just bear with us - it affects us all the same way. We have non-GM and non-admin accounts to play with and they have to sit in a queue too, so trust me, we're right there with you.
  6. Good evening/morning/afternoon/[I don't know what time it is, I've been in this queue for 3 days]! We were upset we didn't get to do our Costume Content in-game (server player caps and stability because apparently there are a LOT of you guys). So I crowd-sourced ideas and someone mentioned the idea of doing the Costume Contest over the forum! So, here are the rules: 1. Each player is only allowed to submit one costume (just like if it were in game, you could only log into one person to compete). 2. ABSOLUTELY no discriminatory costumes. If we determine it fails on this rule, there is no appeal. A repost may constitute a ban. 3. No reposting other people's costumes. It's one thing for people to genuinely have similar ideas (have you ever seen The Incredible Hulk?) but taking someone's picture and claiming it as your own (or recreating it) doesn't count. And if there's a dispute, the first post wins. 4. You may submit up to three (3) pictures of your character. These can be from the character creator screen or doing in-game emotes or action shots. 5. Contest will run from now until midnight on Friday, 3 May PST. We'll announce the winners some time over the weekend. 6. PLEASE do not post any comments in this thread about how much you like a particular costume. Make another thread for it or talk about it in Discord, Reddit, 4chan, in-game, in the Upside-Down, just not here. Please. PLEASE. How do you compete? I'm glad you asked! First, creating your costume. I'm sure you've all noticed our servers are getting hammer-timed. We're doing our best, but you hug so good. So we ask that you use Titan Icon to create costumes and, if you need some action shots, try out Paragon Chat (remember: we're judging your costume itself, not how good you can use emotes on top of Atlas or wherever else). There is no penalty for taking screen shots of your guy in the character creation screen (remember you can make the background lighter or darker!) or from doing it while using emotes or Peter Parker-ing yourself. If you can do it without keeping someone else locked out of the game, cool. Second, why bother taking the time to make a kick-ass costume? We don't have a definite answer to this at the moment, but I assure you it will be grand and the winner will be the first winner of a costume contest in over six years. You basically get to be history. (inb4 History Man) Third, below is the format we're asking you submit with. Keep in mind we will have to go through hundreds (maybe even thousands) of these, so for the love of god help us out. I promise I will skip even looking at your post if it's all over the place. We're not asking for backstories simply because we don't have the time to read them all. I'm sorry [sadface] Top of the post: Your character's name Below that: Your in-game account name (We can obviously see what forum account you use when you post, so again make sure it's the one you use to log in to the game) Below that: Battle cry. What would your character shout while vanquishing a powerful foe? Below that: Your 1-3 pictures. Do not post more than 3 pictures. We will delete your post and (if repeated) squelch your account. Use the following format to do it. You will have to upload your pictures somewhere else and then post the links below. [img=URL_FOR_PICTURE_ONE] [img=URL_FOR_PICTURE_TWO] [img=URL_FOR_PICTURE_THREE] And that's all you have to do! Curious what it looks like? Well I'll show you! (Probably turn off the UI and take better pictures than I did.) Character: C-Birb Account: ArachnosPhobia Battle cry: Caw!
  7. Best place I've seen from the community is https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OQ68rHr_BbA9QoHEEx9atG-xZiMFKCiXZVDPQ1JvrKc/ Outside of that, the CoH Discord and Reddit are generally pretty helpful. It seems that there's a lot of re-orienting for the game as it's been a long time for most people, plus i25 is a bit different. But the sooner people get assistance, the less likely any rage happens (except by the baddies when they fall from our collective might!).
  8. I just want take a moment and remind all of the players that the people responsible for hosting this server, coding the game to work properly, posting information and updates in Discord/Reddit, the countless faceless people in the help channels fixing problems for others, all the GMs resolving problems in-game, literally everyone involved in this (and the other parallel projects) are *volunteers*. They are not getting paid, and some of them are actually spending *a lot* of money in order for this project to keep going forward. I've heard many people ask about donations and that's not something I can speak to at this time (wait for an announcement from the admins when they have a decision), so the best thing you can do to help them out is to help each other out. Every time a new player asks for help on AT choices or if the server is up or how to run the game in full screen, don't rage because someone literally just asked that. Give them a link to a document, the wiki, have a conversation with them, add them to your friends list. Because this game is about the community. All of are here because we love this community. There isn't really a point to this message other than to thank the incredible people who made this possible. I know there are a million posts already, but I've been so busy in-game this is only the second forum post I've even seen (after the update from yesterday) and I know most players are going to be too busy enjoying themselves to see it. And that's okay.
