  1. When you go to make a new character or are using the costume creator for fun (my daughter does that and never plays the actual game) do you have a specific concept or character in mind and make that - or do you explore what can be made and then find something you like?

Bonus question - do you use the random costume generator and how do you use it?

But in a pinch, I can go from my melee-centric tanky Night Widow into my assault-centric control/support Fortunata. Join a team, see what is needed, and switch to my build of choice, as opposed to switching to another character.

That seems really useful.  I have used builds to be able to switch a tanker from more defense to more damage, but as you say it isn't a big change in role.

Okay.  I thought about it.  I could make a floating skull that was a Fortunata.  at a 100o years old, as a skull, gender sort of ceases to matter.

So, I open up MiDs and looked at Fortunata.  And, without spending 40 hours 50ing and running this thing it looks to suffer the same issues as Crab.  In effect, I could make my genderless skull a Mind/Psi Dom and run circles around the Fortunata.  Because VEATs and HEATs are shot in the foot from the starting line.

The important thing is you tried and quit.  Does that make my challenge a PUG?

I don't know, getting a character to level 24 in a week seems like you're either not really getting a feel for the character or kind of unreasonable.

When I have played VEATS I found that I did not get a feel for the character until I hit 24 and respeced.

It's my one major complaint about them.  They change a lot after the respec which makes learning them as you level much less useful, although not useless.

Probably politically incorrect of me but I think of widows as female.  They are all female in the game. I never run female toons. So, this week I bow out of the challenge.

I refuse to believe that someone as creative as you is blocked by this.

I bet you can come up with 10 reasons to have a male widow even if they normally are all female.

The Dune series is based on having a male with the powers normally only women get.  If Herbert can figure out an excuse you certainly can.

What if I already did that a few years ago?

    Good question.

I don't know when they were last revised or if other changes have occurred to make them play differently.

But I would say that maybe you are different now.  You could use a break from whatever you currently play.

Try the Widow Fortunata again.  Worst case you hate it and it makes you fall in love with your current characters all over again.

The Croatoa arcs are great - but they each seem to insist you defeat npcs in a specific area, and they are often not in that area. I have to teleport them into the neighborhood to complete the mission. Very annoying. Or maybe I just haven't figured out the obvious place they hang out. But, other then the defeat X missions, they're all fairly short.

It's really just the hunts in the woods on the east side of the map that ask for the enemies in the wrong area.  Like you, I find enemies on the edge of the area and drag them in.

It reminds me of an event in Guild Wars 2 in the starting zone for the Norn.  You are guarding a tower and have to defeat a certain amount of enemies.  The enemies spawn, but they spawn a bit out of the area where killing them counts for the event.  And of course players camp where the enemies spawn and kill them immediately.  The event can be endless because none of the kills count and the players don't realize they are the problem.

  8. This is a fairly common thought that many ex-MMO players I know have had.  The game starts to consume their lives.

I play CoH because I tire of it after an hour or two of playing (especially if that two hours is a Synapse TF).

But I don't play Civ 5 because that game I can start to play and look up to discover it is 3 days later.

And I have a certain sympathy for this post because when I quit Asheron's Call 20+ years ago I made a similar forum post of the Choose Life rant at the end of Trainspotters,

  9. if you just need more damage on a controller look at Arcane Bolt or Toxic Dart.  Since the revamp to pool powers they both do good damage.

Toxic Dart has a very fast recharge time.

Arcane Bolt has a slower recharge but every power you activate has a chance to immediately recharge arcane bolt and give it a chance of a power boost.

I take arcane bolt with clicky controllers (like electric affinity) and toxic dart for controllers with fewer clicky powers (like force field).

  10. Fault says: A powerful stomp can cause a seismic disturbance. This will crack the Earth itself and send a Fault towards a targeted foe, throwing him and nearby enemies into the air and possibly Disorienting them. Fault deals no damage on its own (except Scrappers). Fault has a chance of dealing damage to foes in between you and your target (Scrappers/Stalkers only).

Fault in game lists knock and disorient and damage and additionally a chance for knock and disorient and stun.

Using it, I see damage applied to multiple enemies and some are knocked down.

It has a range of 20 feet.

So does this always disorient the target but not damage them?  And it is a Mag 2 disorient - does it have a chance of a Mag 3?  Or should I be targeting lieutenants with it instead of bosses?

And does it only affect other enemies between me and my target, so I need to line the shot up?  How wide is the area the it affects, is it a strict line like dual pistols piercing round or is a fairly wide area?

The only comment I can find on it by google is someone saying to maybe skip it.

  11. I will add a couple more

single target taunt exists and Victory Rush gives a buff based on the type of target (minion, lt, boss, etc.)  - you could make a single target taunt that buffs the user based on the target.  So if you taunt a minion you get a small buff but if you taunt an AV you get a large buff.

teleports foe exists - you could make controller teleport foes that add a control to the target or defender teleport foes that add a debuff to the target.

  12. This is not to invent new mechanics, themes, sets, or change existing sets.  This is not concrete suggestions, these are mad scientist concoctions.

But electric has a power the advances power recharge a set amount, and rezes exist - so it would be interesting to have a rez that recharged all of your power 10 minutes or so.  Give you back basically all of your powers.

And burn gives the character immobilization resistance - so it would be interesting to have attacks that gave status protection for a short duration.  Think blaster or defender getting 10s of hold resistance every time they attack with X power.

what combinations of existing power mechanics would you like to see?
