  1. I recently lvl a spine/fire brute to 50th lvl using the guide above, and it was actually pretty easy both time-wise and getting varies IOs to complete the build. But if I had the time and didn't need the cash so bad, I might had gone fire/kin troller for the simple fact that its more useful outside of AE then my new brute.
  2. Are procs no longer a thing for Neutrino Bolt? Back on Live, I remember NB being like a mini-machine gun on how fast it recharged so I had like five procs in it for varies effects.
  3. Here's my thread that asked the same question, and I went with Stratonexus build suggestion. While still a few LoTG-G Recharges short, it proved it's worth when the battle with Romulus (ITF) went south on us . While thick in the mobs, I was able to keep the core of the group up and fighting and still throwing some sonic attacks Romulus's way to help.
  4. Back on Live, I only remember a few kin defenders to the hundreds of kin controllers. As to thermal, I only remember a few when the power was new and shiny (but then alot of people already had their 50th lvl defender with FF). My 3rd character on Homecoming is a Time/Sonic defender, and I'm pretty impress with her survivability and I haven't even maxed out my recharge yet.
  5. It looks to be about a 500 mil build, which for a farm character isn't so bad compared to some 1 billion builds I remembered back on live. But it seems you're throwing in purples just because they're purple and not the most effective choices. Because every purple you use in this build, means one of your alt characters misses their chance at purple greatness. Look, you have six sets of purples and you're recharge bonus is only 192%, and only three LotG Globe Recharge Bonus IO's. And a set of Hecatomb (one of the most expensive purples) in Kick, which is just crazy in my book. Add in Consume (long recharge and little damage) to someone that has already Transference every 8.19 seconds. Same with Assault since you have perm Fulcrum Shift.
  6. Its is my old build back from Issue #19, which I had tons of fun with doing Terra Volta with. Pretty much I would trip mine the hell out of the reactor and let the rest of the team have their fun. 7. I still remember the day when in Bloody Bay within a PFF and was jumped by a villainous Master Mind. I stood there, attack after attack, using my self-heal from the healing pool power (cus you know, a few damage pts do make it thru) and just laughing as the MM grew ever more frustrated at not defeating me and stealing my shivan shards. Next came the accusations of hacking on my part, even asking what power I had that allowed me to just stand there under furious attacks from his robot pets. My answer - "I'm a Bubbler, and you best fear us!" Then I super-speeded away, chuckling all the way.

    Time/Sonic

Some good advise and builds here, shows me I really need to read-up on Sonic to decide about Screech and Time Crawl. As a side not, I always felt that as a Defender in any TF group, this quote from Futurama kinda fit my style; God Entity: "When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all."

    Time/Sonic

As noted, I have yet to play a Time and only once played a low level Sonic back around issue 18 maybe. When I built this, I kinda just looked-up other builds and guessed on what powers I needed by their builds. Influences-wise, I would like to keep the build in the $100 mil range if possible, since I have yet to get my farm brute to 50 lvl. This is mostly a team build, I didn't solo AVs that much in live and I doubt I would now. Use to be a huge fan of ITF Saturday afternoon runs, so likely that's where she would mostly be at once I get her up to that lvl. Again, any advice or help would be welcome. As I said, I have years of experience playing defenders (dark, rad, empathy) but a noob to those two powers.

    Time/Sonic

Returning player with lots of defender experience, but none in Time or Sonic. 😔 There is my first try, but I'm trying for a end build for TF missions and AVs. 12. Maybe shorten the guy's actually name, "William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin" to just 'Baron Kelvin'.
  13. The first hero I made coming back to CoH was a ill/dark troller, but I haven't gotten her past 10th lvl yet. But its all been solo missions , and only time I got worried during a encounter was when I ran into a high lvl mob by mistake while looking for some gang members. Its been a pretty interesting ride so far, since Illusion is new to me but I have a lot of experience with Dark. Once I get my fire brute up there for some influence to share, I will go back to playing her. Live kinda spoil me in that way, use to having a few million to play with at the lower levels before gifting $200 to 300 mil for end builds.
  14. My first controller was a ice/kin starting around issue 9 on Live and I have to say it was one of the safest (below 30 lvl) heroes I ever played. What I couldn't freeze in holds, I major slowed between my ice and kin abilities. She was a ton of fun and often I would just do solo missions just because I could (even if Jack wasn't that quick in the take-down). But the fun kinda ended as I got closer to 50, she pale when compared to my later controllers (fire/storm ,dark/dark, and a few others I'm forgotten). She just couldn't do the damage the others could, even when slotted for it but I still used her every Dec/Jan for Baby New Year event which I always solo because Snaptooh was her favorite popsicle. So if you wish for a fun (and pretty safe) ride below 40, then I suggest a ice/kin troller.

  17. Its doubtful if I was building the perfect team I would choice a Emp Defender unless we where going on certain missions. But normally one don't get the choice to build the perfect mix of arch-types and just have to go with whatever shows-up. Just because you have a great build with the best IOs doesn't mean the other guy does and having a Emp Defender on the team gives some leeway. My 50th lvl main could keep Fortirude on six teammates and had perm AB with the Auras on a two min recharge. If I had to throw a heal, it was just to top off everyone near the end of the battle. Hami raids where kinda boring for her on tank duty, more chat time then anything else. Often we were just pointing out to each other what was happening with the other teams. But during early game, I love to have a emp defender about to save my behind. Mid-game, auras are pretty nice when you're three mobs in and you're endurance is near empty. Up pass 40th lvl, its mostly TFs missions I expect to see one and pass 50.... I normally don't expect to see a Emp Defender about unless its hami raid or something like that. So is a Emp Defender handle to have around, I would say yes mostly. Kinda like saying is a tank handle to have around, and I would say about the same. Get the right group together and you don't need either.
  18. The odd thing about being a late-game empathy for me was that I was asked more for being "me" then my power set. Like able to follow orders, knowing my power sets and how best to use it, being there when stuff started to go south and able to set it right again. Being a solid team member is more important then your build to most people, and its only when you're trying something risky do the high end builds matter. Once we did a 3/3 def/cor ITF and it was a total blast using my empathy def to keep things fun and safe for the rest of the group. But give me someone that knows their "crappy" power set over someone that's clueless to their perfect killing-machine. I still have nightmares to that one TF where the guy was PL to 50th in his very first tank. My 3D spent so much time face-planting that I thought we should invest in carpet for the AV's lair.
  19. I had a Elec/FF controller back in the day, while fun (and pretty safe overall) she didn't do great in end game. Around 37 lvl I just stuck her in the Rikti zone to do ship raids. But saying that, a elec/storm could be interesting with some good slotting to counter the endurance drain of storm. And I still love watching tesla cage getting the baddies, and lightning storm does fit in well with Elec.
  20. I won't advise going 'pure' healer' either, even if my first toon in COH (early 2005) was a empathy/energy and I never used my attacks much due to KB. For most groups it didn't matter, but to other people it did and I got complains from time to time with just floating above the group and healing/buffing. If I had to do it again, I would take a attack power with some sort of debuff and use it between heals/buffs. Because while heals are important, its the buffs that start really mattering to your teammates once you get past the teens in levels. In the end, I left my very first defender to just do Hami raids because she wasn't really that useful anymore. Those Defenders that came later, even at 50th lvl I could find fun things to do with varies groups on ITFs or other TF. Which kinda leads to one of the funny stories (at least I thought it was funny) back when I was playing a dark defender in Faultline and the TL kept asking for a Healer. He won't start the mission till we had a healer. So with like 5+ mins of waiting, I noticed we had a kin in the group and mentioned to the TL that with my heal and the kin's heal we should be ok. Of course he didn't listen, and we kicked him off the team and did the mission with little trouble. And its the same now, one doesn't need a "pure" healer in COH... most groups just need one or two members with good buffs/debuffs and the occasion heal.
  21. If you're comfortable with Dark, I would go Dark/Dark since you're not going to be disappointed even at the higher levels. Back during Live, I use to farm a Knives of Artemis mission with my Dark/Dark at +4 with little trouble. It wasn't super fast, but it was fun and I always enjoyed myself. She was also my preferred hero for the Summer Blockbuster Double Feature. But if you're truly a madman wishing a challenge , you could go fire/storm which can aggro a whole room without even trying. Not to say I didn't have fun with her, but you always had to be on the top of your game with the high endurance drain of that combo. But solo or in a group, she was utter madness with what she could do in melding mobs. Which kinda relation to what blazingcoconut was talking about, you really do need to have a eye for what you can do pass 40's. My dark/dark and fire/storm, I did alot of solo stuff during those levels and never looked back. My ice/kin troller on the other hand, which being total fun at the lower levels (and likely the safest hero I played at those lvls) was kinda useless once I got her to 50th. Mostly I used her to solo Saving Baby New Year mission and that was about it. Same with another one of my controllers, I just tasked her to do Rikti Mothership raids because she just didn't shine anymore pass 40th lvl.
