  1. Almost every toon I've ever made takes at least one power out of Leadership. If you team much at all, it's a tiny investment that's very rewarding. Controller Forts are a lot of fun though. You'll have at least one big AoE up for every spawn and you are more or less amplifying anything else the team is bringing with the leadership stuff. They have a real Dominator-Defender feel about them, even if they aren't anyone's first choice for any one role.
  2. I'd probably run a Defender, a Controller or a Support-inclined Fort. There's an absolute overabundance of capable melee toons running around. For anything that's going to show up in a radio mission (even at +4x8), a scrapper or even any EAT can probably handle eating aggro so long as there's some support behind them. They go a long way to make everyone else seem more powerful. Support and control classes go a long way to make up for any deficiencies on a PUG, and also tend to feel less impactful on iTrials and AV slugfests. Might as well give them the spotlight in a place where they can really shine.
  3. Discord is a mistake, something that should not exist. I feel the same way about Slack and Teams and any number of other platforms that are sometimes used in place of actual support tools. If you want to run an application to support voice communication among a group of friends, fine. But any online game that requires users to involve an external resource, particularly one that can't be indexed by a search engine and that sits outside normal game access is something that should not be countenanced. I wouldn't play a game that where the user community regularly used an external service and I'm frequently saddened that other gamers continue to do it anyway. City of Heroes in particular has wonderful and easily customized in-game chat tools. I'm glad I don't need voice comms to play, and there's less than zero reason to interact with any external service for purely in-game interactions like group-finding or immediate help requests. You're saying the whole world should standardize on your thing and I'm saying your thing is an plague on gaming, software support and the concept of communication in general. If it's worth keeping online, put it in a forum, a wiki or a support page somewhere. If it's an immediate, in-game need, we already have great tools for that. Other games should get on this level.
  4. Woof. I'd probably slot three of the P2W Damage/Recharge IOs + 2 Acc and 1 EndRed in Vines (or better yet, two Acc/End/Immob IOs from a set) You will spam that constantly and like all AoE immobs it costs too much. You'll wind up with something like 50% Damage/Recharge/Acc with standard IOs though and that's pretty solid. Roots? On a Plant that's a damage power moreso than a hold. 2 dam, 2 acc, bare minimum. MAYBE 2 Hold. With IO sets, 2 Dam/Recharge, 2 Acc/Hold. Also you might like to know that the HOs for Acc/Mez and Dam/Mez are VERY affordable, like 100k apiece. I guess the people picking those up from Hami Raids are pretty disappointed since some of the HOs sell for 30M+. Regrowth is a toggle so probably just 3 Heal 1 EndRed. Wild Growth probably 2 Heal 2 Recharge.
  5. I think that it is, but with such high defensive stats, I can handle hanging out with the melee types well enough to let it pay off. On my Rad/Dark Defender, I took Choking Cloud and also used it very seldom. Now it's an always on sort of thing. Giving a pass to the fighting pool and all the stat improvements that gives me, I'd probably rethink the Hold Aura as well. i will say that it makes you a tiny god for that five minute part of the BAF where everybody wants extra controls though.
  6. Oh and I skipped Spirit Tree because I didn't want another anchor heal over time, the AoE sleep because I wasn't using it often and the single target immobilize because it's a single target immobilize. The Rez in Nature is iffy; that could've been an attach from Mace Mastery later in my build. And to be honest, the Boxing/Tough/Weave set is a big investment in slots that only works because I put a bunch of money in IO sets to get the late-game Defense and Resistance to the point where it's worthwhile. I can tank pretty much everything but Longbow, Arachnos and Incarnate mob types, even at +4, so long as I know I'm going to do it. I feel like I don't do damage but since everything winds up confused and/or held, it doesn't matter how long it takes my pets to kill stuff. It's also not a big deal if I go lock down a spawn and wait for the team to catch up.
  7. The 2x Preventive Medicine, 2x Doctored Wounds is really handy. I have multiple inf capped toons so my build was kind of expensive all along but I'd beg, borrow or steal whatever it took to get at least those two Resistance +Def Uniques and the ATO set that grants +Recharge. If it's just too far out of reach, at LEAST pay the 2M for the Lockdown Proc. Leveling, I used my ST hold and my AoE immob as attack powers and kept Gabriel's Hammer and Envenomed Daggers (P2W temp powers) handy for tough fights. A big problem I have is remembering when I'm highly defensive and when I'm not, but by around level 40 I was pretty close to caps. If I had been diligent about the build order.
  8. This is my Plant/Nature Controller. I'm over slotted for S/L resist and very solid for Fire/Cold/Toxic. VERY close to S/L defense cap, as well, over 100% resistance to most forms of Mez and 150% Recharge bonus with my Alpha and Hasten. I'm sure the build can be tweaked but it feels pretty great, even if it mostly doesn't do much direct damage. The general plan here is Seeds, then go hover over the melee types and let Entangling Aura plus my ST hold deal with anything still moving. Seeds can be a "twice per spawn" attack. I never feel like I'm waiting on it. The Lockdown Proc in Entangling Aura does a lot of heavy lifting for me. This clearly isn't a solo or farm build, but it's credible for living through the alpha from an x8 spawn and will definitely keep a team alive and moving forward. 9. There's no zone in the game that I'd see removed before the Hollows. Screw that whole zone. The mobs that spawn there are boring to a one. The zone itself is ugly and lacks any sense of verticality and the storylines are boring. There are better ways to get merits and there are better zones for that level ranges and yes that does mean I'd rather wander around the maze in Perez Park. If I had my way, they'd move the Shivan crap to the Hollows and let us have Galaxy City back.
  10. I used Air Superiority, Boxing and Cross-Punch on a Controller for a while. It was better than trying to kill everything with my AoE immobilize and single target hold.
  11. I've never enjoyed a Blizzard game. Warcraft screamed Warhammer rip-off from the word go (I separately have a lot of antipathy for Warhammer as well, so that's not a good sign) and while I've played all the big ones at least a little bit (I lasted about 5 minutes in WoW, up to maybe 20 hours in Diablo), I just don't care for the things that Blizzard does. That being said: WoW has provided the biggest running target for low-end gaming since its introduction. The test for whether a PC could be said to be capable of real PC gaming was its ability to run WoW at the common screen resolution of the day. I'm actually pretty sure "playable WoW" has been the goal for Intel and AMD integrated graphics for a dozen years or more. The cartoon-style graphics were a really great choice for it and it kept the game within reach for a lot more people than any attempt at photorealism. I may think that the art style is dumb AF, but I know a lot of people who were really happy every Wal-mart grade Potato of a PC could render it right. I don't actually have anything else that's nice to say about WoW specifically, but IIRC Blizzard did release patches to update the older Diablo games so they're fully playable on Windows 10, and that speaks to a commitment not often seen in PC gaming.
  12. I think I'd take Entangling Aura at 35 and Weave at 49, and leave out Earth's Embrace. You can three slot it for End/Hold/Rech and get a lot of situational value out of it. The +Def Unique could go in Wild Growth. It's very useful for soloing and small team play, and losing out on a self heal when your secondary is Nature is losing out on very little. ... and, personal preference, I'd probably take Hover and Flight instead of CJ and Mystic Flight.
  13. This is my completed Staff/Bio Brute Build. My starting point was a build posted a couple weeks ago by marcussmythe, who apparently adapted a Spines/Bio build for it. I lived in this build for a couple weeks and I respec'd five or six times before I was really happy with things, but this is where I wound up. My Purple and Winter IO choices as opposed to his had a lot to do with what I got out of drops and early conversions. I experimented with a build that relied more on set bonuses to get resists even higher by avoiding any slots in stamina or heal auto powers, but in the end I like the more generally useful build I have now; it's not entirely an AE farmer, though I'm completely comfortable doing Bloody Rainbow at +4x8. I'm solid against AVs and while hasten isn't Perma, everything is up every time I need it regardless and I don't have to pay any attention at all to my End bar since I have the two +5 End Accolades. I have T4 Seers and T4 BPs. They're good for different things with the Seers being very helpful for AVs and the BPs good for farming. I have T4 Diamagnetic and T3 Degenerative. I feel like I get more out of the small To-Hit debuff most of the time than the -MaxHP one, though it's different for AVs. I really had to debate Super Jump and Taunt. Temp powers really mean it's not necessary. Comments? Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.962 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! 14. ... and also the lil' Hydras in the final room. And it might matter how long your team needs to defeat the giant lumps of doom, since they keep spawning more hydras. The minion/LT/bosses are absolutely static in each spawn, at least prior to the final room. I definitely know where all the Damned, Eidolons and Rectors are in each group.
  15. A thing you can do for multiple activations is to bind stuff to WASD. Practiced Brawler and Hasten on SR, for example. If you're at the point where you aren't even occasionally using the W key, you probably don't need Hasten that bad, either.
  16. This seems to be the best all-in Staff/Bio build on the forums. I play one pretty regularly and, even after weeks and a couple respecs, I still can't tell what Bio armor is doing most of the time.
  17. If you're not worried about it, don't be worried about it, but now that we have /ah and /vault, it's easy enough to pop up the UI and make a few million in support of another alt or SGmate. Even better if you have the 10M (or the relevant badge) for the Portable Crafting table. I have a level 12 Dominator who, thanks to a few lucky drops while soloing, is permanently sitting by the Mercy Island Black Market with about 400 million inf now. I log in, collect my money, email myself bundles of 10M or so and make my next set of purchases and sales. Takes about five minutes once a day. It's not fun in the same way as running a BAF, but I think it's fun, especially for knowing that it's purely from running the market. I'm perfectly willing to consider the market a part of the game and finding strategies that work for it can be a good time as well. I think we used to call it Market PVP.
  18. I'm still trying to get one but most of the /Bio builds seem to put it in the damage aura.
  19. It's not the same thing, but the UI does have the ability to pull monitor some of your personal stats in real time. I think you just drag the relevant counter out of the Combat Abilities window? I recall doing that when I was really concerned about monitoring Def and Resist numbers for my WP Brute back in the day. And yes, I don't care about anybody in particular's damage numbers so long as the team is functioning. Which is not really a high bar to clear most of the time. I ran a signature arc a couple weeks ago with somebody who was clearly drunk. The guy kept getting lost on maps and was pretty much never near any fighting but he was hilarious in chat. He contributed nothing to XP or mission progress but he was way too much fun to kick.
  20. If you check the info on the character type, you'll usually see what the title means. Arbiters are Judge/Jury/Executioners for the Rogue Isles. Operatives are field agents of Arachnos and can be any mob type.
  21. Considering that most 50 Common IO recipes cost about 75k - 110k to buy and about that much to craft, there's no earthly way that it's cheaper to slot common IOs than to get on the market and pick up Air Bursts, Cleaving Blows and Serendipities. If you're afraid to even buy set IO pieces and you're still crafting commons, it's only going to cost you extra. Also, to everybody with Inf-earning problems: rare salvage will usually get you 500k inf and crafting an uncommon Defense, Heal, EndMod or Resist Damage Set IO, then hitting it with Enhancement Converters (do the set type conversion, not the rarity conversion) will very often lead to something that's worth north of 3M inf. As a rule of thumb, 2M inf will get enough common IOs and set pieces to get a level 22 toon decked out in effective enhancements. Maybe less for a Controller or Defenders.
  22. I've been running 125. I found it by looking for 5-star maps. I have a 50 Brute who turns out to be pretty good at clearing it. Every time I play, I notice a new mob. I'm not sure if they just weren't there before or if new ones are constantly being added, but I think it's great to have the incredible variety regardless. Thanks to whomever made it.
  23. Most people who are slotting IOs as they level are slotting any set pieces they find if they can. Those of us who have cash to hand out to SGmates and lowbie alts (usually because we can work the market or have access to a Farming toon) definitely still prefer set pieces; Common IOs are among other things a cash sink. But the goal for everyone is to make our powers more powerful in whatever way we need. Don't just unthinkingly slot 3xDamage because somebody said they think it's a good idea. Look at what you're getting for putting in a second Recharge piece vs. an End Reduction. The numbers are right there on your screen as you slot things in. It's easy enough to tell. But yeah the shorthand advice to do 3xDam, 2xAcc, 1xRecharge is mostly the result of something that happened a zillion years ago when CoH needed ED and the even-more-standard 5xDam, 1xAcc slotting was super common.
  24. Do you really want all nuke controls to go FUBARd whenever Windows 10 decides to force an update? XD I think you guys would be shocked to know how much technology runs on software that makes any version of Windows look brand spanking new in comparison. Especially military technology.
  25. I've done one toon on each of the factions with the idea of completing the arcs since Homecoming went live. I like the Loyalist missions better, mostly because I don't like the underground maps where Resistance members spend more time and the city zones are so good looking. There's no "good" side in any arc, though technically the Resistance is probably closer to heroic most of the time. I've also done a 1 - 45 toon without leaving Praetoria; a Demon/Sonic MM. They only reason that character made it to 45 was I did most of the leveling on a double XP weekend. You do eventually run out of content and need a fresh supply of Under-20s to do their missions in order to advance. ... unless you're talking about hitting the First Ward/Night Ward after finishing the Gold storyline, which I keep forgetting are things that exist.
