  1. I know this is an old post and I don't believe Redlynne is around these forums anymore (which is unfortunate); however, I have gone back to my Grav/Time Controller again recently and they use this build. Build posted for ease of reference: This build plays really great. No complaints. My issue is that this build takes all of the powers from Gravity and Time, and I would like to fit some others in. So, there has to be changes. My current wants, are to add the following: Arcane Bolt Enflame Teleport Target Power Boost (this will require me to take two prerequisite powers from the pool first) That's a total of 6 power adds. My thoughts about possible removals to make room are: Crush (not really needed in the rotation) Propel (I can't believe I am considering it, but was thinking about replacing it with Arcane Bolt) Dimension Shift (cool power, in theory, but I just don't use it) Distortion Field Time Stop Tactics? (I don't know, I'm reaching here) Now, I have some questions that I hope someone can answer. Does anyone have much experience with the Sorcery pool? Is Arcane Bolt worth taking as an attack? Is Enflame a worthwhile power to try to add to my build? I currently have Spirit Ward, Mystic Flight, and Rune of Protection and they are all good. Power Boost sounds like it would be a worthwhile addition to a /Time build. Is it worth having to take up three power slots? Anyone use Teleport Target to move their Singularity around the battlefield? I'm also kind of concerned about dropping any powers out of /Time. Will I regret not having Distortion Field and Time Stop?
  2. I'm going to have to look more into my build, because I was playing with my Grav/Storm tonight and he has a full six slots in Crushing Field. So I have some differences between him and my build I posted here. At first glance, I cannot see what those differences are. I'm fairly new to builds, so I am not entirely sure what numbers I should be looking for on everything. I believe def and res should soft cap at 45%, but that's about all I know. I did not realize that 85% was a good number to reach for accuracy, so thank you. That's good to know. I love KB-KD in Wormhole. I find it always stacks the mobs into a nice little pile. So compact that I usually have to wait a few seconds before I can actually start to see any separation between the mobs to know if I moved more than one mob or not. I also like your suggestion to drop Frost Breath. I think it is a high damaging proc power that I usually don't end up using because I have plenty of other options to take down large groups. I could definitely benefit from switching that power and moving the slots. I actually have two Gravity controllers. A Grav/Time and Grav/Storm. I keep looking for ways to try out Enflame from the Sorcery pool with Singularity and to add Fold Space from Teleport for a "Wormhole". I'll probably try to get Enflame into my Grav/Time to try it out. Neither build has a lot of wiggle room power-wise. I'm not sure Fold Space will be worth the investment, since I already have Wormhole. I might just get my Defender buddy to grab it to try.
  3. This is my current build, but it needs some work. It regens pretty good, but it also goes through Endurance pretty quickly. I'm considering some options for changes, but there is not a lot of wiggle room currently. I could maybe drop Hurricane, as it is not a power I use a lot. I do like it though. I also would like more of the Leadership pool, but the only place I could consider taking from is the Fighting pool, which kind of feels necessary.
  4. Well, I got my Cold/Dark to level 50. I really like the look of this guy, but not sure how needed my shields are at that level. I mostly find that I end up throwing down Sleet and tentacles and just being a week blaster. I still really like this guy though. He feels so sturdy. My Ice/Atomic Blaster feels sturdy too at that level and he might be of more use to a good team with the damage he can output. I also put some time in with my Kin/Sonic (lvl 38) without Tough and Weave and, well, I missed Tough and Weave. It could have just been the group or the content (waves of things attacking us in Night Ward), but I died a lot. I think I was the only healer and when those waves hit with anything AoE, I was done. It seemed like it anyway. I still had fun, but it made me wonder if those two skills would have helped quite a bit.
  5. This is awesome information. I had never considered these procs. Seems like they would be very useful. I have yet to put set pieces in my attacks for my Cold/Dark, but I will be slotting these for sure. Lately though, I have been back playing my Kin/Sonic and trying to get a better feel for them. I had originally been following an @Darkir build because, well, they are really sturdy builds. However, I recently found a build by @Moonsheep and this really seemed more along the lines of what I was trying to build. I ended up dropping the Fighting pool and creating a build that is a mix between the two builds I had been referencing. I'm curious to see how it's going to do. I feel like I'm going to die a lot more without the Fighting pool, but I'm really getting a bit tired of every build having three power choices taken up by that pool. 🙂
  6. I have played a Dark/Energy Dominator a bit (level 34?). I like Dark, but that howling wolf pet can be a bit much. Still, a Dark/Dark Controller could be something to look into. My, very demanding, friends seem to prefer when I play a Tanker and take all of the aggro away from them. We seem to have the most success when I play in that role. A Controller would be a possibility, as I could try to lock everything down for them to make it as safe as possible. I got my Cold/Dark Defender to level 49 and I really like the character. I think the main issue with him is the lack of AoE damage. Aside from Blackstar that is. That is amazing AoE damage and I have a blast running into the middle of a group and using it. Other than that though, it's mainly dropping Sleet, Tenebrous Tentacles, and spamming my ST attacks. Still, fun character.
  7. I thought I fixed that in my post. I meant to say that I had slotted all my defensives with Attuned set pieces. I'm not sure what you are referring to my your last comment though. Rebirth?
  8. I have a Kin/Sonic on level 34. I really love the Kin powerset. The buffs are awesome and I even love Repel. I have been hesitant to play him with my group of friends because he doesn't do much for the groups survivability. However, what helps a group survive more than mobs dying as quickly as possible? Your suggestion of using Fold Space is nice too, especially as I was already looking at trying to fit the TP pool into my support build. I also love the Gravity set and use Wormhole to move groups of mobs a lot. I'll have a look and see what I can come up with in a build rework. Thanks.
  9. I edited the post above a bit discussing the new character I made yesterday, a Cold/Dark Defender. But I wanted to add some additional thoughts. I hit level 31 with this character today. I grouped up yesterday, but today I have been just playing through some radio missions solo (as I should really be working, ssh). I already have a Therm/Sonic Defender in the high 30s, but there are reasons I like this guy better, aside for my preference for ice or cold based characters. Some information on this character first. I decided to spend a little money on him. My attacks are all slotted with regular IOs and my defenses are all slotted with ATOs. For defense abilities, aside from the two shields I can cast on others, he has Tough, Weave, Maneuvers, and Combat Jumping. He also has Super Speed and Tactics. Sprint has the Celerity Stealth IO in it. I love stealth on this guy. Arctic Fog is awesome, especially when paired with the Stealth IO and Super Speed. I can literally stumble into a group of mobs and still go unnoticed. It allows me to get off a full damage sniper shot with ease. I'm not blazing through solo missions or anything, but it's been fun so far. Tenebrous Tentacles and Sleet make it pretty safe. I cannot wait to get Heat Loss next level. I doubt this is the ultimate support character, but he's been fun so far. I've thought about still picking up the teleport other ability, but with the talk in this thread, it feels less important now. There are other ways to get a teleport others ability. Same goes for rez. I might miss healing when grouping with friends though, and have thought about trying to fit in Frostwork, but that might be for a second build for this character. The build I am using now seems really sturdy and fun.
  10. The one thing this thread has done is made me want to make more and more alts...and I already have so many. 🙂 I have a Ill/Cold at 37 and an Ill/Rad at 22. Neither really stuck for me when I initially played them, so I haven't touched them in a while. I've been playing /Dark on a Fire/Dark Controller recently, so I can see the benefits. Hmm... Well, I didn't make the Ill/Dark, but I did make a Cold/Dark Defender. This character has no heals, rez, and I haven't taken TP either. I typically lean towards cold or ice powers when making characters, so I had to give this a try and really like it so far. I was on some missions and it was a bit difficult not to have a heal, but nobody went down. Also, I like being able to contribute damage-wise. It was a decision between Dark and Water for this character and I chose Dark mainly because of the snipe. I'm looking forward to playing him again. Although, let's see if I don't make an Emp/Fire or Ill/Dark while I'm working today...
  11. I actually have a Kin/Sonic Defender in the 30s. I should give him another spin. This is what I'm wondering. I guess it really depends on the group makeup. What is needed. I started with thinking a defender would be it, but it depends. If your group needs it, control would be a better option. I guess what I've figured out is that there is no ultimate support character. At least not one that perfectly fits.
  12. Well, hello @Doomguide2005! Your name has popped up a lot when doing my own research into this question on the forums. In fact, you had posts in two threads that got me to create an Earth/Emp controller yesterday and a Bots/Emp MM today. The "Ultimate Support Character" is probably not a proper term for it. Basically, I was looking to make a character that could fit heals, a rez, group teleports, leadership buffs, and maybe stealth. The problem is, that's a lot of pools to fit into a character. My thought with the Bots/Emp MM is that I could skip all attack powers and just have my pets, their buffs, and a good support secondary. In this case, Emp. A quick look at Mids and I think I can make it work. But there is going to have to be some hard choices about maybe not having Hasten, or maybe not having an Epic power set. As for my group of friends, they have a problem with too many alts too. So it would be hard to state a typical group makeup. But, the times I have felt most useful is when using my Tanker. I just keep all the aggro and let them do whatever. But, I don't always want to tank, so I have many other alts. Lately, we've had a Fire/Dark Controller (me), a scrapper, a corruptor, and a mastermind. It's worked out pretty good. I already have a Thermal/Sonic Defender in the high 30s, but I haven't used him much. I feel like without much control or a good tank, I would have lots of chances to use my heal and rez powers, but it wouldn't go too well. I will still look for a good group makeup where I could take him for a test drive with my friends though. So, in the meantime, I landed on the Earth/Emp controller and the Bots/Emp MM. I think the MM will give me more room for pool powers though, as I really only consider one power skippable in Emp and I think there were only 2 I'd skip in Earth. As for Bots, I can skip 4 if I stick with pets and their buffs only. Anyway, that's a bit of a ramble, but I hope you get a better idea where I'm coming from.
  13. Um, I'm not really sure. I haven't really used TP much at all. I really just wanted to be able to teleport my team to me occasionally. I guess moving a dead body out of harms way before a rez would be nice too. This does remind me that my Ice Tanker has an Assemble the Team power from somewhere and it doesn't look temporary. No idea where I got it from. He might even have a temporary rez. I have been looking into options for this build and can't really land on anything that fits perfectly. I'm trying to fit too many power pools into this. The current front runners are my Thermal/Sonic Defender or a new Earth/Emp Controller. Both only have a limited number of skippable powers, so it will be a struggle to get what I'm looking for.
  14. I guess the main issue is figuring out how to fit everything into a build. The Stealth aura + celerity-slotted sprint is a good idea. Also, Warpacts suggestion on travel powers is helpful too. That does allow me to fit everything in. I forgot to mention, I do have a level 39 Thermal/Sonic Defender that I haven't used lately. I could probably rework to use the suggestions above to meet my needs. I also just started a NA/Rad Defender on a new server last week and they are on 22, so another option. I typically do lean towards Controllers. I have Grav/Time, Grav/Storm, Ice/Ice at high levels, and I have recently been playing a Fire/Dark with friends. I'll look into builds on some of these to see if I can fit the power pools I want as well. Fire/Dark could fit, but I may look into a new build with a secondary that can rez a bit more easily. Thanks for the ideas.
  15. The alt-itis is this game is ridiculous. I'm currently looking into creating, what I think would be, the ultimate support character. A Defender is what I would think would be the best idea for this, but I could be wrong. This is a character to play with friends who most likely won't have the best gear on, or even the best power choices. What I am looking for in a character: 1. I want to be able to heal. 2. I want to be able to rez. 3. I want to be able to teleport my teammates. 4. I want to take the Leadership pool. 5. I would like to be able to stealth. My main problem, is trying to fit all of this in. There are not enough power pool choices. Hasten is necessary on pretty much all builds, that's the first pool. Teleport would be another pool. Teleport requires Hover really, that's the third pool. And the last would be Leadership. No room for stealth (although I do realize some stealth can come from some of the Defender primaries and using the Celerity IO with Speed). I thought about An Illusion Controller for this, because of the Invisibility in the primary powerset, but I still feel like a defender might be the best bet to hit all of my wants. Anyone have any thoughts?
  16. Thanks for the reply. The information on how to tell what a powers proc chance is will be very helpful. I usually just find a build on the forums I think looks good and follow it as I level up. This was my first attempt at trying to work something out using multiple sources of information. I'm still learning how to properly build a character and really have a long way to go still. For example, I'd love more recharge, but not sure what a number is I should be shooting for. I want def and res, but really, as a controller, I feel like these are less important. Maybe they won't be at the end game though. I took my Grav/Storm build above out for some solo and duo missions yesterday. It played really well as is. Here are some thoughts, first on my comments in my last post: 1. I'm not sure taking Teleport Ally will be as useful as I originally thought. I mostly used Wormhole to bring a whole spawn right on top of my Singularity. No need to send him anywhere. I am still interested in having Teleport powers though. Mainly to help my friends get around. Really not necessary, and not sure how I fit it in anyway. 2. I don't think I really understood how Enflame worked. I think it could be useful still, but not worth the investment. 3. I still think Dimension Shift is a useful power and I want to make it work in a build. I don't think it is going to be in my Grav/Storm build. Maybe Grav/Time if I can fit it in with all of the good power choices in those two sets. Thoughts on @VV's comments: 1. Great information on Crushing Field. I use it every fight and with the Energy font proc in there, I barely saw it. On my Grav/Time, I have that proc slotted in Wormhole, and I feel like I see it more there, but its been awhile. I'll definitely switch that slotting up to one of your recommendations. Just not sure which one yet. I have a feeling I could use more slots in other places though. 2. I went into my play sessions with my Grav/Storm yesterday with some thoughts on powers I could drop so I could try out some new ideas. One idea was to drop the AoE powers from Ice Mastery. This was a terrible idea. I will be keeping both of these powers and slotting them up as you suggest. Frost Breath is an absolute beast and I can't wait to try it with procs in it. 3. I love Freezing Rain and will be looking into implementing these proc ideas as well. 4. Same here. Thanks for the ideas on how to slot procs into Ice Storm as well. 5. I will have to add another slot to Hasten. As it stands now, things are coming back fairly quickly, but I could always use more. Maybe its all the +recharge I have slotted that is helping out. Another slot in Hasten would definitely be ideal though. My only other real question that comes to mind now on how much the Fighting pool is really needed for Controllers. I have seen some other posts on this topic and a lot of people seem to agree that Leadership would be more beneficial, as the powers also affect your pet. However, I read the forums a lot and pretty much every build you come across has the Fighting pool. My thought is to keep my build's power choices as is for now, follow the recommended slotting ideas provided by both commenters above, and then slowly keep messing around with this build in Mids looking for optimizations. Thanks again. Notes - Added possible rework of build. Couple of notes. I think it looks good. Not sure if another slot is needed in either Hover or Fly. Also not sure if I need Sudden Acceleration in Hurricane, so I might be able to remove a slot from there. I also think I could remove a slot from Frost Breath, as I grabbed all the slots I could and three set pieces on Positron's Blast is not really offering me much. Removing all the slots from Crushing Field really gave me some flexibility. I was able to find slots to put two in Health and one in Stamina as well.
  17. I have too much of a problem with alts to fully put the time into testing this build yet, but, as the title says, I mainly play this character with a DP/Storm Defender friend. I have played this build with him and one thing I did notice is that I have too many AoEs. It's probably because he's there too, but I don't need to apply much more than Freezing Rain and my Crushing Field, followed by Tornado. And in the situations that I could use more AoEs, I need to pace myself because of endurance issues. I also have a Grav/Time Controller and have been thinking about reworking his build. But, some thoughts that I would like to work into this build would be: 1. Get Teleport Friend to be able to move my Singularity around the battlefield. 2. Get Enflame to be able to add more damage to my Singularity. 3. Get Dimension Shift to create a dome of storm chaos. Dimension shift I always want to try to work into my Gravity builds but I never end up using it. I swear I will someday though. It sounds like it would be cool here, but to be honest, the mobs will be flopping around enough that putting them in a dome for my protection probably won't be necessary. Unless it does allow for the dome to negate any alpha that might be sent my way. Hmm. As for how I'm going to get these powers into my build, I think I need to take the AoEs out of Ice Mastery and switch to Mystic Flight as my travel power. That might do it. Now, off to Mids to see what I can fit in here... Edit - I found where I'm going to get the slots. There are too many power pools in my idea. I need to drop either Fighting or Leadership. I think, as a Controller, I'm going to drop fighting. This will hurt my defences, but I should be controlling everything anyway, right?
  18. I don't have a lot of experience with different tanking sets, but I do have so, so many alts....and the most fun I've had in this game is with an Ice/Ice Tanker. The only other Tanker I've leveled past level 20 is a 46 Fire/Claws. I'm sure this is the same with other Tankers, but I just love being able to hold aggro and let my team just fire away. I just used my Ice/Ice Tanker tonight with friends for the first time in a while and we just rolled through missions. I was able to go into rooms just packed with bad guys and bring them out to my Blaster and Sentinel friends. I could hold all the aggro and just let them blast away. I was a ton of fun. I promise, I am trying to give other Tankers a fair shake. I just made a Shield/War Mace earlier today. But I really can't see any AT being as fun as my Ice/Ice.
  19. Hey, thanks a ton for the responses. This is my first time putting together any type of build for myself. I got some of the slotting ideas from some other builds on these forums that used these powersets, but it's good to get some alternate ideas of what could work better. I really ran out of slots. I couldn't figure out what I could move around to get more either. I'd like to put more in Health and Hasten as you mentioned....I'd also like to put another in Fly and Stamina. I haven't played with this build yet and just bought some set pieces today to get it ready. I have a feeling that I will have trouble with End though. I'll need to find those slots one way or another.
  20. I have done some work in Mid's on a build I think might work. I wasn't able to fit in Dimension Shift or Thunderclap, but I was able to add Frost Breath. I basically took a lot of information from other builds and did what I thought looked good. I'm sure there are mistakes, so if anyone could point them out, that would be great. 🙂
  21. I had been looking for a Tanker to fit a storm-themed group and got some good ideas there. However, the buddy I play with consistently still prefers our original Storm characters to play with. So, I’m looking for builds or even just tips for slotting. I have been away from my PC and had no access to the game or Mids, so I’ve been trying to look up builds and do some research while I’m away. There is…a lot of information. I have read through a lot of the Proc threads for both Controller and Defender and got a lot of good information. My character is Grav/Storm/Ice. Reading through these threads has giving me a lot of questions on power choices alone: 1. Get rid of fan favourite Propel for a more proccable Crush (don’t think I could drop it)? 2. Find a place for Thunderclap to give me a mag 2 stun that could be useful? 3. Proc up Dimension Shift to go with Crushing Field? 4. Take Frost Breath to have a powerful cone attack to use against immobilized groups? Im looking forward to getting back to my PC so I can play around with a build for both my friend and I. I am going to purchase both of us some set Enhancements for our characters to try to get the most out of our builds. I think I found a good build in the Defender Proc thread for my friend. I’m trying to piece together something for myself. I have a full set of Will of the Controller I’m going to take off of another character I don’t really use. I also can take some Basilisks Gaze off of that character as well. So, I guess I’m looking for some build ideas and slotting ideas. Any tips would be appreciated. I found a post in another thread that I lost. It was discussing when you would Proc a power over when you would just put a full set in it. What is the criteria for that?
  22. The last couple of days I have mainly been playing the new Ice/Energy Tanker, a Fire/Claws Tanker, and I've gone back to have a look at my old Ice/Ice Tanker. I like them all. Ice/Ice might still be my favourite and I'm going to sit down soon and try to work on a new build for him.
  23. Thanks for the new ideas and the build. I love this stuff. I was thinking of dropping Jacobs Ladder on my Stone/Elec Tanker, but I think I'll keep it going for a bit to see if I can make it work.
  24. Oh man, another good option. 🙂 Actually, the only Tanker I leveled to 50 is an Ice/Ice Tanker. I love him. So, this might be a really good choice. I'll be giving him a chance as soon as I have time at the character creator, for sure.
  25. I think it's the sticking with the storm theme that is causing the most trouble. We got back into the game recently with a couple of storm summoning characters and it has been a lot of fun. For some reason though, we are making new storm characters and I'm trying to find a Tanker that fits that theme, as I like the AT. Electric Armour has been good, but Lightning Field is a little too much. The animation is throwing off too much lighting for a rare winter storm. 🙂 I'm over thinking this I realize, but that's part of the "fun". Electric Melee might be the better option, and I think I can work with that. I'll keep messing around with these builds, and maybe a couple new ones, until I find one that fits.
