  1. My toons are created in a couple stages:

    1) I'm in it for the experience - I want to see how different Archtypes play, along with different combinations of primaries and secondaries.  I don't have any that have started off the same as another.

    2) I follow the concept that their powers are, more or less, random.  They can choose which and how to advance and/or enhance.  This means I rarely respec, unless I can't use a specific power.  Sometimes a backstory concept will emerge with a weapon or a costume choice.

    3) Names are usually chosen for the amusement factor.  Word plays, alternative spellings, whatever.  None are worthy of mentioning here.  They have meaning to me, that's what's important.  I don't expect anyone else to care.

    4) Back Stories are written...sometimes.  If I read something here that inspires me to write one or 2, then I will.

  2. This issue isn't how they get stuck, or that KB sux, or that you lost at Dragon Poker.  The problem is that it happens.

Isn't there a /stuck command for when your toon gets stuck in the geometry?

Why not a /target_stuck command that checks for local mobs that are stuck in the geometry, then moves them out of it.  If there isn't a mob found out of bounds, then it does nothing.

This way, it doesn't require a power to be used, or a new power to be created, and it doesn't require targeting.  Seems like it should be easy to implement.

Thanks for the post & update Troo. I for one am very excited about that is to come, but as I am feeling a bit silly atm, from the image you posted I believe I can extrapolate what is to come "Super Soon". So without further adu, from top to bottom, left to right, I believe these pictures mean...

I believe your descriptions went Left to Right, Top To bottom...

  5. I wonder if NOT being able to do significant damage qualified as a pacifist.  Is it the intent or the end results that counts?  My Illusionist does almost no damage with his Imaginary Wounds, and relies on Deceive to get the other guys to work it out.  He doesn't tell them to fight each other, but it just happens that they do.  Which brings up a sore spot - Why don't I get full Experience using Deceive?  I'm getting other guys to fight each other (not unlike a pet).  The risk is the same as when I set my phantoms on a mob.   And If I do some of the damage, I get only partial XP.  I find this game mechanic to be unfair.  I mean Charlie Manson got full credit, but deceived people to do his bidding...

    Back to the topic:

A door sitter at a farm could be considered a pacifist AND do no damage - soaking up the XP, but not getting involved.

I miss the days of receiving my monthly issues of Maximum PC and PC Gamer magazines in the mail, each with a CD-ROM enclosed.

I used to subscribe to Boot Magazine - the predecessor to Maximum PC.  My problem was when the mail carrier broke the CD trying to stuff the magazine in the mail slot.

I was also on Q-Link - the predecessor to AOL.  Back in my Commodore 128 daze.  300 baud modems were it back then, and floppy drives, Monochrome and CGA Monitors.  This was before mice were invented.

I was the recipient of unsolicited advice recently. Just let them type while I went on with my crafting. Suggestion was that I chose the wrong AT and that I should reroll (context of my grav/dark/stone controller). Made a note and blocked when all was said and done.

Does advice = opinion?  Not always.  Telling someone they chose the wrong AT doesn't sound like advice, but more like their opinion, or they're trolling for an argument.  And I wont argue with a troll - I won't win, and it puts me on their level.  Better to ignore.

I try to follow this 'proverb':  "Opinions are like ass holes - Everyone has one, they all stink, and the only one that matters is your own".  I don't go around BA'ing everyone, and I appreciate it if they don't do it to me.  I agree, offering unsolicited advice can make you seem like a jerk - especially when offering (forcing?) an opinion without knowing any of the background of the toon or player.

I've played COH since about Issue 2, and I don't feel qualified to offer advice.  I may answer a question, but that's rare.

  8. I don't offer unsolicited advice.  Mostly because my advice isn't worth the electrons to post it.

I will answer questions, especially if people are having a private conversation in General Chat.  I figure if it's personal, they can, and should, create a private chat channel.  I mean, should they be discussing the physical qualities of a Stone Defender in the bedroom?  Of if Zap should be used to charge certain massage tools?

I'm still trying to figure out why my comments will have a chilling effect on their conversation.  I'm not rude, using offensive language, or even being insulting.  It's more of a 'Is this the best place to have this conversation' kind of thing.  Usually, the chat goes quiet once I stick my nose in, and rarely do I get invited to the conversation.  I can't figure out why...

Several good options that people use in the previous posts.  Use what you like.  I prefer mids.

Edit : guess i need to try harder to convey sarcasm through text next time.  Back to the drawing board.

Hey, Snarky!  Can you provide some private lessons here?

Is telling unhappy people they can go play other servers really the option here?

Considering that the other servers have a peak of less than 50 -100 players and Homecoming is pretty much the only server with population.

Shouldn't we weigh the criticisms and see how we can propose things  to improve? Because honestly it comes off as a group think if we just keep saying “HC has a slow but steady approach and other servers are just randomly experimenting until it works”

I am not picking on you, nor am I ganging up on you - but I wish to address this.

People who are unhappy playing on HC do have the option of playing on other servers.  But realize, each server has it's strengths and weaknesses, and we have to accept them if we are to play on the server (s).  Suggesting that they may be happier by using another server is not necessarily mean, it's letting them know that there may be another place they may enjoy more.  But also realizing other servers have their downsides as well.

I have read that HC Folks scour the forms and read most, if not all, of the suggestions, and probably the debates about them also.  I am grateful for this.  It lets me know that they are active in what the community is wanting in their game.  I am also grateful they don't necessarily listen to what is being demanded.  The loudest voices are not necessarily the best ones to listen to.   I don't have a loud voice, but, I would rather them not listen to me either.  I do not have the wisdom to make a game better.

But back to my original point - I find no fault in letting others know that there are other City of X options available that may be better suited for some players.  The tone of the suggestion may be another matter, but the overall offer doesn't bother me.  And as for the other servers having lower population rates, this is also an opportunity to help them get a larger player base - by having an unhappy player migrate to a lower population server.  Who knows - maybe the grass is greener for them there.

Nobody's perfect - Nothing's perfect.  We need to go to places that are best for us.  Sometimes a gentle suggestion is what's needed for someone to find one of those places.
