  1. Could be a corruptor - I haven't played him in a while.

Data chunk?  Not sure what you are looking for.  I wasn't looking for assistance, though I would appreciate the offer.  I'm not really looking to reactivate this one for crime fighting.  The point I was making is this combination didn't work for me - Other, better players (as all of you are), may be able to make it work.  I'm not upset about it.  Ok, maybe some about the self only defense bubble with the 5% hole.  But I was shut down kinda abruptly in a different thread when I asked if it could be closed.  So I let it go there.

Since I solo most of the time, a lot of the support AT's are more difficult for me.  Maybe I need to team up more.  Probably.  Most assuredly.

96 characters and not sure anything is really feels “bad” after IO’s and Incarnates..

Reminds me of an old joke from General Dynamics:

**Put enough force behind it, and you can make anything fly.

My worst AT was a Sonic/FF Controller (I think it was a controller...).  Since I almost exclusively solo, this was going to be a slow leveler.  But, good God! This guy couldn't do enough damage to take down even cons.

And I won't get into the save-your-ass bubble that doesn't let you attack, but lets in 5% of other's attacks,

So, yeah, he was relegated to my Base Builder at level 8.

I look at it like this: Maybe it's not a bad build - just bad for me.  Which makes me wonder which one of us sux....

Ahhh!  That makes sense.  I didn't even think of Mr. Green Jeans having a bunch of little Green Jeanses, at least one of whom would have seen robotics as a way to move off the farm!

    Wouldn't they be called Shorts?

Also, have you ever wondered how a farmer's jeans became Green?

True, but why should they conform to what you want and how you want to play?

Not saying they have to conform (or not conform) to anything.  And I don't believe I said, or inferred, anything about conforming.

Just stating that using a written story to illustrate live interactions doesn't work.  It's a bad example that seems to be used regularly in the forums.

Kind of like using Sponge Bob to show how we can talk underwater.

I have a question: Why would Superman join the Justice League?

Have you never seen a movie/show/book/comic/game/etc where a team divided and conquered? Nothing unusual about it.

This is a poor argument that has no application here.  Movies, shows, and comics (I left out games because we are talking about a game) are all SCRIPTED!!  All characters (actors) are under the control of 1 person controlling what they do and say, along with the environment.  It would be nothing to write a story where a 6 month old baby would take out a whole clan of ninja pirates.  Add a little CGI and you have a movie.  Nothing unusual here either.  Just not applicable.

We are not talking about written stories - these are live people with their own thoughts and behaviors.

  6. The person(s) building the team have every right to choose how they want to communicate.

If they want tells, that's ok.

If they want broadcasts - that's ok too.

If they want you to sacrifice a chicken first, then that gets a little messy.

It doesn't matter what the 'norm' is,

It doesn't matter what your opinion of it is.

    It's their call.

And if someone wants to question them on why, instead of just doing as asked, they are not obligated to give a 5 page explanation, or refer them to the Forums, or even provide an answer at all.

IMHO, they don't have to respond to communication about the recruitment outside of the requested channel.  If they do, then they should respond to all who communicate that way, if only to say to, "Use to other method, please".  I understand some like Tells, and others like Broadcast.  It's their call on how they want to communicate.  Arguing about it or trolling them is not conductive for future teaming.

If you are looking for a group and that's not a method you want to use, there are other groups, and you may be better served to find one that works better with you.

For some characters, a rocket board, a void skiff, or the magic carpet are the best fit concept wise.

I just find it annoying to have to re-toggle everything back on after using any of the above travel powers.

If they could switch it to suppress everything rather than de-toggle everything (unless they've done that and I haven't noticed), I'd be happy.

That is really my only beef with those powers.

They fixed this in the last update.  They don't toggle off anymore.

Also, they wanted to make them 'Less' than the actual powers.  They are slower and you can't fight from them - but you can be targeted - just like Personal Forcefield - you can't attack, but you can be attacked.  But, I believe I've made this argument elsewhere...

  8. Unique names.  Part of what makes this game awesome.  Kind of a brand for your Hero.  Not to mention a specific background story that brings the Hero together.  I haven't seen any other MMO that has this detail (though, I haven't seen many MMO's, so you know my point of view), where the name actually means so much.

By nature, names are on a 1st come, 1st served basis.  So, lets throw that away and move to a Last Come, 1st served model.  Because, ya know, I want that name more than you do.  I DESERVE that name more, because my heart is Dead Set on it.  No other will do.

    Some Questions:

    Scenario -

If someone is Dead Set on having a specific name:

--They can't find an alternative, modification, or some other name that will work

Do we have any proof that this name is being camped?  Is there any way we can see if the account owner has logged in within the past 2 years? Is it possible that that character wasn't logged in when ever you checked, but is still very active?

If the Homecoming Devs, in their wisdom and programming expertise, decide to unlock names that haven't been accessed in the past 2 years,

--How does the person who is Dead Set on a specific name guarantee they get that name, and someone else doesn't grab it first (either to use or to camp) - thus perpetuating the issue?

If the Homecoming Devs, in their wisdom and programming expertise, choose to put the names up for 'sale' in the Auction House,

--How do the noobs even hope to be able to compete with the veterans to purchase said name?

It sounds like the currently proposed options are either bad or worse.  Its a solution that doesn't necessarily fix the problem, but has the strong possibility of pissing off  and losing players.  It is much worse to take something that belongs to someone else, than to have someone work a little harder and make it their own.  Maybe the current owner worked hard to come up with that name - all to have it taken away.

On the flip side, If they do free up some names, what if the newly freed names turn out to be some of yours, or mine, by accident?  And in that direction, would you be willing to give up one or more of your prized names, that you worked hard to find, because somebody else wanted it?

I can see it now -

--"Sorry!  Several people indicated interest in your name, so we are taking it away from you and giving it to one of them.  They convinced us they wanted it more.  Sorry!"--

Maybe working hard on that character name makes him/her more dear to you.  Maybe you took your time in leveling and badging, and now you are quite attached.  No one can take that away.  But your identity? And how you got here?  Well, maybe you're on a trip to Anchorhead to get a memory wipe and don't know it.

  9. This is a great topic!

My thoughts on what has been said:

Fun, as a metric, is not directly measurable.  But is used for measurement.  An example:

Ask players if then are having fun.  The answer is definitely measurable.  Just don't ask them to define what fun is - it is different and ambiguous for each person.

Merrriam/Webster's definition of Fun: what provides amusement or enjoyment

Merrriam/Webster's definition of Amusement: a means of amusing or entertaining

Merrriam/Webster's definition of Enjoyment: the action or state of enjoying

The definition of fun leads to 2 circular definitions.  Sorry folks - not gonna find a definition of fun in a dictionary.  These emotion words are going to defy words - they are defined by how they make you feel.

    Here's another thought:

    I enjoy eating dinner.

    I don't call it fun.

The words are related, but not the same.

Which is all besides the point.

Per GVT: "I wanted to get the ball rolling on a little frank discussion about where folks draw their personal lines on things that are "fun" and "not fun," what's enjoyable, what's engaging, what keeps them around, and then ask them to consider peeling those thoughts apart, and examine them with a fine-tooth comb (if you're up for that, at least)."

Tell us what YOU find as fun, enjoyable, not fun, etc.  And worry NOT about what other people say

I have to be honest anyone who has to ask how to use such a power must be terrible at any game that requires tactical thought. Maybe try playing a game of chess every day against the computer at max dif setting. Might help sharpen up the ol strategy circuits and make you not need to ask such silly questions like what a force field that protects me from near all threat can be good for. If it worked as you foolishly seemed to think, it would be a most broken power indeed.

Would this mean you haven't been honest up to now?

'Worthless' is a pretty strong word, but only by a shade.

In 180-odd levels of running Fire/FF controllers, I've only ever activated PFF in earnest maybe 10 times.  That said, I've done so understanding that even with PFF active, everything still has a 5% chance of clobbering me... so I usually only activate it if escape is possible.

Ya know, Roleki - you just did the most to redeem this power for me.

    Thank you!!

  12. A few notes:

Karl Urban did a pretty good Bones.  Got the stiffness down pretty well

He did a good job in Lord Of The Rings  - I wish he had a bigger part

CoX does not need Karl Urban (or Karl Urban's) nipples.  Let's just drop that one there.

The Nude female body addon is local only, and not impressive.  Don't bother with it.

    Now for the biggie:

What if there was friendly fire?  Those Blaster misses hitting civilians, or other PC's.  Or damage to the environment.  That would make the game so much more difficult...

(now, everyone and their sister is going to BMC at me for such a idea [not even a suggestion])

  13. My apologies - Didn't know I was asking for it to be a phase power.  I'll have to reread my post and look again.

I don't know about 'the increase in charge time' or 'the no phase timer'.

Since I solo almost exclusively, I'm usually not targeted by ally heals/buffs.

I also don't know why it would affect LotG, but I'm not knowledgeable about how LotG works either.

    ------------

I'm not suggesting it become a phase power - just that it is a false sense of security, since I had died multiple times while it was up because some attacks get through.

What I was inferring was about being attacked.  If the forcefield does not allow attacking at all, then it shouldn't allow one to be attacked at the same time.

  14. I had a bubbler that tried to use PFF when hit points got low (happened WAY more often than I thought it should).  Found I couldn't do much, but also found I wasn't 100%protected.  Only 95% - they can still hit you in that 5%.  So don't think you are totally safe.

I think that should work the same both ways.  If you are 100% unable to attack, you should be 100% unattackable.  To me, this made it worthless.
