  1. Some sounds in that game, I tell you...

The Yellow inspiration activation sound. Especially if I haven't played in a while.  It makes me shudder with pleasure, every time.

  2. Thank you for all this, I came in late at the party but it was quite a fun read.

I did learn 2-3 small things but I think that this story mostly made me want to play a similar game, minus the diary. You covered it like a boss already so, no point in just echoing you on the forum.

    Good stuff. You rock.

You are correct in that your shields stay "on" but their effects are suppressed when not in Human form.

Your instinct to save mules for the end of your leveling career is also a very common way to go (certainly what I did.).

I'm with Laucianna's suggestion in selecting mules that have some sporadic utility.  I slapped a +Stealth into my Sprint to pair with my Infiltration mule.  Whenever a team lead says, "We're stealthing this mission." I'm able to run ahead with my Stalker companions to click through stuff.  Clever power picks can open up even more versatility on this  already broadly successful AT.

If you spend enough time in Human form, Weave can add a good chunk of durability as DEF layers nicely on top of your RES.  But no, you do not "need" it.  Not even Hasten is "needed".  My Lightform is permanent without it.

Welcome to the fold!  I have plenty of alts that I would love to move ahead with, but Peacebringers are so fun that I just can't stop playing mine.

Not going to lie, I really, really love what I'm seeing so far.  I just read @Laucianna's guide. Comprehensive, well made, pleasant, sexy!

I'm not going to let myself be worried by difficulty ratings, I don't intend to excel and impress. Heck, I can't even impress with the ATs I play well, I'm not really a talented player.  I just want to have fun and play.  So it's going to be tri-form all the way until I'm comfortable enough to try that Infinity Changeling/Shifter thing.

And THEN, it will be time to try a Warshade because why not.

My guide on her is as up to date as it possibly can be hun ❤️ (The Almost Complete Guide to Kheldians)

I wouldn't worry about the toggles in the power pools unless you are chucking a LOTG proc in there for global recharge 🙂 But active powers like Fold Space, Vengence, Hasten are all great ones that you can go back into human to activate off cooldown!

But I hope you enjoy your Peacebringer journey and if you have any questions let us know and we will be happy to help when and how we can! ❤️

    Lovely, thank you!

Hasten was the only exception, because Hasten! 🙂

As for LOTG mules, I'll see.  My objective is to make a character with all the powers I "want" before I start worrying about the LOTG mules.  But if I have room left at the end of the build, why not!

  5. Hello beautiful people!

Got a quick, almost rhetorical question that fits in the "asking the question is pretty much answering the question" but I'd be curious to gather some healthy opinions nonetheless.

So after decades of enjoying this very fine game, I'm ready to dip my toes in the VEAT pool. (Well, I tried a Wodow last year but haven't really played her). I rolled a PB last week and played it casually since. I'm also introducing my daughter to CoH and next to the few hours we spent playing Valheim together, it's her first real game.  Only the best for her.

So we're taking it slowly, I'm having all the time in the world to appreciate the AT and learn it.  My first observation is that Multi-form is going to be the most fun experience. It's a dynamic playstyle that I know I will enjoy and besides, if I wanted to only play a bipedal blaster with toggles, I'd roll another sentinel.

So, having read a lot of guides and docs about PBs here, I feel I understand the class a bit better. The thing about guides though, is that they become deprecated with patches and changes. Now, most PB guides make mention of the hassle of Toggles because switching forms removes them.  Well, that doesn't seem to be true anymore, when I switch from human to Nova and back to human again, my light shield is still going.

I am however going to assume that while I was in Nova form, the shileld wasn't doing anything: a theory I will test tonight.

My main question: if I go all out and squeeze most of my effort/slots into native PB powers, once in my life ignoring the Leadership pool and Fighting pool and possibly even the quentessential CJ/Hover, am I shopping for disappointment?  I don't intend to solo +4 x8 with my PB, if I want to do that, I have an arm-long Tanker list waiting for me.

I would really like to have a tri-form PB but most of the powers are so cool. I really want to test that out.

    An inf for your thoughts.

  6. Hello beautiful people.

My game crashes systematically when I try to move that "Z" (See screenshot).  Did the test 3 times, it crashes every time.  Note that my game is extremely stable, in all my homecoming time, the game never, ever crashed once.

    image.thumb.png.4751ad824f07a0edc29c6ec94d413756.png

Edit: Actually, other things make it crash now, such as navigating base creation menus.  I have a hunch... let me try something before I post.

Annnd found my culprit.  Not like you guys don't give us a warning beforehand:

    image.png.622881ac58a8d83025702d02da624083.png

Disabling this allowed me to play around my base as much as I liked.

So... non-bug I guess but it's still relevant info.  Cheers!

  7. So yeah, spent a little while dipping my toes in the market these last few days.

Holy moly... there's so, so much supply, the demand can't keep up. The prices are still somewhat reasonnable but it's become much harder to sell. Looks like everyone and their sister learned the conversion game.  I think I'll stick to creating the sets I need and keeping them home, bypassing most of the reasons to have INF in the first place.

If I were ever to try and look for a flaw in the way Yomo presents information, it would be in some of the 10 dollar words he uses, which make my brain go over budget.

Also consider that English is my second language so, double the effort for me!

Still, we love our resident Yomo. He's the man.

There's not much to it, really. But it's not for everyone. It can be very tedious.

For my SG, maybe 2-3 years ago, I shared my screen with more than a few folks, showing exactly how I would take a level 1 with zero inf to a billion in short order. After about 30 minutes in, I only had one player left listening. It's just not that interesting to most. I mean, who doesn't want to type /ah (or whatever macro or bind they use) and see all your listings have sold? And then to get that notice that you can't get your inf because you would exceed the cap?  (I am fairly certain this is a new feature but no idea when it was installed, as I'm pretty careful about not reaching it.)

Look for @dahle on youtube. His video is dated, but still applicable. Or, if you're more of a reader, go through Yomo's guide. All good stuff.

I think the worst part is learning that losses are part of the process. Like..recently, I made like 100 of an item that was typically selling for 3-4M. Now, they're selling for 1-2M. I am not real clear on what happened, other than someone clearing out their stash and selling them cheaply. I'll wait it out, see what happens. But burning another 200-300 converters to change them all into something that will sell for my desired price..well, it's annoying.

Had a challenge lowbie trying to make it to a billion, starting at zero. Went to winter packs, seeing they were selling for 18-19M, non-superior. Had some crappy luck on more than a few packs. (and some good luck) but overall, my average was closer to .8 than 1.2 enhancements per pack. Lost a good bit.

There's ups and downs in the market. Just have to ride out the valleys and aim for the hills.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me.  I understand everything you say here and it kind of reassures me that I'm more or less doing everything ok already, just on a smaller scale than most.

I guarantee you though, had I been there when you explained things, I would have lasted the whole screen-share session. i have deep appreciation for people who take the time to properly explain things and I love complex systems.

I already read everything Yomo wrote. That dude is fantastic. If only I was smart enough to understand half of what he says 😉

I'll try new things, see where they take me.  But for the most part, I don't really need a fortune in my treasure chest. I love the market game so much, all my alts play it so, they never need a rich parent 🙂

  12. Even when I'm away from the game, I read this part of the forum semi-regularly because I'm fascinated by how you guys do things. I don't have your smarts or your business acumen so I admire you guys a fair bit.

I'm in kind of the same boat as Bananiac there: Converting and selling for reasonnable funds and yes, the profits have been lesser lately.  I came back to Homecoming maybe a month ago and I was surprised how basic conversion is not as lucrative as it once was. It's still enough for me though, It keeps my alts well geared. I think that I have maybe... 3 billion tops in INF waiting to be spent.  Everything else is in the form of ATOs, Purples, PVPs and Winter-Os stashed in my base. I sell almost nothing these days, if I have everything I need, I don't need that much inf.

3 billion is a drop in the ocean compared to most of you but I like to think that I'm doing ok for myself.  It's all a matter of perspective: I had a thought for you all the other night, I was in a lowbie team and someone suddenly said "Wow! I just got a [Very rare salvage I can't remember the name], my inf problems are solved forever on that character".  A prismatic something...

I /AH'd it out of curiosity, it's a thing that sells 3 Million.

To that person, 3 million was a fortune, it made their day.

To me, 3 billion is "enough to feed my alts forever"

And you guys give out billions in the two digits.

CoH: the market.  A great game within an excellent game.

That said, I wouldn't dislike the idea of upping my game, just to see if I have it in me but I have no idea how to do any of that beyond basic conversion.

    -sighs-

BS, BA, WM are all practically same

Battle Axe got upgrade with Axe Cyclone that sucks people in then does dmg.  They all have "ranged" attack. If you wanna call 7ft a ranged attack.

    BA: Pendulum with a 7x7 attack(ranged & radius).

    BS: Headsplitter with 10x20(arc).

    WM: Shatter, 8x45(arc).

All the attacks have 7-10ft reach depending on the attack.  Just those have little overall better distance.  Same goes for Katana. Katana is faster, but less dmg then say Broadsword. But do to speed it will make up in DPS over time. But the last 3 will hit far harder on average and can out do Katana, do to needing less hits.

But at end of the day, your still doing TWO MOST RESISTED DAMAGE TYPES in the game. Smashing/Lethal. So always factor that in.

Thank you for your answer.  With your vast experience making builds, you probably know better than me but I repeatedly read here that in the long run, Smash and Lethal were really not as bad as people make them sound.  My "main" character is a Claw melee and she was nothing but extremely satisfying.

Then again, I'm really not looking for top-tier performance. God knows this game is already ridiculously trivialized by the epic sets and incarnates, it takes very little effort to make a machine ouf of almost anything.

I was mostly going for "what's the feel and the quirks of each of the melee sets".  My first 50 on Live was a Katana scrapper so I won't go that way, and I already have a Mace Scrapper in his mid 30s and to quote @Uun, satisfyingly-crunchy indeed.

So while I was factoring all 4 sets for comparison, I was mostly looking at Axe VS BS.  And I found that most axe options (graphically) are pretty meh, while there are loads of wicked nice swords.  So there's that.

  14. I did a really basic, really neophyte comparison.

Axe has mostly KD/KU, Mace has disorients and a bit of KB, sword and katana are mostly about lowering target defense.

Katana is the fastest set of the 4 and does slightly better with AoEs.

Mace hits HARD and is a bit slow.

Broadsword is essentially Katana but is slower and hits a bit harder.

Axe is a mixed bag, tends to be slower than the other three, a bit more damaging than sword but is the only one with a ranged attack.

  15. Hello beautiful people!  I haven't been here in a while but the old CoH itch started itching again and for the last few days, I find I can't get away from the game, looks like I'm here for another round!

Last time I played, I was all about Tankers with a bit of Sentinels, but now I just want to Scrap...per things.

I want my character to wield a weapon. I'm looking at the one handers:

    • Broadsword
    • Battle Axe
    • War Mace
    • Katana (Ok fine, Katana is a two-hander)

I find all four powersets similar but different. I was wondering, in a very few words, how would you describe each?  What makes them stand out?

It will be most likely be played with a /Radiation Armor because I just love that powerset so hard. CLICKS CLICKS EVERYWHERE!

    So yeah. Hi.  I'm home.

I have found it sometimes helps to focus more on pet support if that's the style you are favoring. With robots specifically, it helps if you CC a bit, web grenades/bonfire/AoE time slow and so on. Another option with robots and mercs is flying. Group fly is fantastic for them as all your pets are ranged, and as a bonus they get little rocket boots when they hover around. But seriously, group fly on a robot MM can trivialize some content. If they don't have any -fly powers, they are more or less boned. And your healing more than makes up for what ranged powers they do have. Not in all cases mind you, but a surprising majority.

You had me at "little rocket boots"

I'm not going to from the build end but from the tactics end.

I see 4 major types of mastermind play.

I think that you are going to find it is best to pick the type of mastermind you intend to be before trying to figure out slotting.

    1) The tanker. The mastermind always runs their minions in defense mode, stays nearby their minions, uses their minions to do damage, and focuses on keeping their minions healed and empowered.

    2) The Mastermind behind the curtain. The mastermind tries to stay as far away from danger as possible and sends in their minions to do their dirty work. Why bother healing your minions when you can summon more and send them to their death fighting for the cause?

    3) I'm the Boss. The mastermind slots to empower themselves and the minions are just there as a distraction and cannon fodder.

    4) Eris/Discord. The mastermind sets their minions on total offensive attack mode to start chaos by attack whoever and wherever they see a target to attack. Just run around berserk. Who cares if the minions die? If you aren't summoning minions every time your minion summons powers recharge, then you must not be playing the game properly.

Now that you know what type of mastermind you want to be (or at least thinking about it), now you can focus on how to slot to make that style of gameplay work the best for you.

The Tanker.  This is 100% how I want to play my MM.

Honestly though, what makes me do the Jonah laugh at this is:

There are people doing lots for their volunteer projects, yet it comes off to me almost like there’s a creepy sycophantic devotion to these devs from folks here because “they gave us our game back(they didnt. That was Score or whatever, and THEY didnt want to but it got leaked, so…).

Look, there’s liking the game and that’s awesome! But saying, “they do it for free” and expecting folks to not vent their frustrations, then when a dissenting opinion is given, being lambasted and given this “they do it for free” excuse( to those being mature about it) is laughable. Hence why people well…laughed.

Also! They are not glass, they will not break bc some people on the internet said a mean word. They don’t need a cult at their beck ‘n call. Not saying everyone who likes them is apart of said cult, that’s directed to the fervent defender-types(and im not talkin the AT :P)

Edit: I appreciate the good but I do not give a pass on the bad. I, well I at least attempt to, give my blunt yet inpersonal view on changes proposed and will do so. “Do this for free” be damned.

I have absolutely no argument with what you just said, it all makes perfect sense. It'S one thing to be thankful for the effort of a team but it's another to apply blind devotion and ignore any other option because of that enthusiasm.

That said, all I feel here IS enthusiasm. I don't go anywhere else because I never felt my experience was compromised at any point, I'm just happy here, and while I can understand why some people may feel differently, I felt it was pushing it a bit to just point and laugh without an explanation.

Now I have an explanation. Thank you.

Well that would give Aeroprism reason to cringe certainly, but not for the lack of a best and genuine community.

More like people behaving inappropriately and not providing the measured and repeatable testing requested by the Homecoming team, or just outright telling the developers they should quit because they don't agree with a change made. Would it surprise anyone to know that one developer took a hiatus from this game after that toxicity?

So I just did a bit of reading.  Cringe indeed.

I don't know if the situation changed since this place opened but from what I know, this place is still managed by a very small, very dedicated team of people who do this for free, just because they believe in their product and their passion.

Whenever I tell someone about this game, I always get the same question. "Wasn't this game closed for good a few years back?"  To which I answer "Yes, it was, but these Homecoming guys gave it back to us, they improve it, they diligently create new and interesting content and they do it at their own pace because it's a small team."

Most people don't even bat an eye and go back to the latest WOW expansion because CoX is a pretty niche experience, but I did manage to get 3-4 people to come back here, try it and stay for a while.

But hey. We get this chance to play the game we loved for free by people who work their asses off, yet there are people who go pitchfork and torch over a change they didn't like.  This is why I'll never work on a project like this, my skin isn't thick enough. In the 20+ years I published video game remixed music, I was fortunate enough never to get that sort of flak.

People can disagree with you and there's nothing wrong with that.  There's things this server does ok, there's things other servers do way, way, way better.  Maybe if you looked into what other servers are doing and have to offer, you could have an opinion on the topic, just like others have.

    Yup.  Yours stinks too. 😉

Debates are healthy and fine, they make us discover new perspectives, so long as we're opened to see what the other side has to say.

Even though I have no intention of leaving Homecoming, I am absolutely not closed to the idea that there might be different and better servers out there but flat out laughing at people who disagree with you gives them pretty poor promotion.

The point here isn't about agreeing or disagreeing.  There's still no argument to challenge my original statement, therefore there is no debate.

All there is is my statement, and people posting memes that indicate that they don't agree with it and laugh at it.  There is still no reason for me to want to lean your way. "Go ahead and check it out for yourself" is not an argument.
