  1. As what other people have said, you can't look at /Cold in a vacuum and only look at the defense shields. It adds so MUCH more as a powerset, that the defense it gives is just that much more gravy on an already high tier secondary. Having power boost effect the shields would give it the same (or even higher) values as Force Field, which literally only has defense as its one trick pony. I honestly think even though force field just got looked at, it needs another pass to give it some absorb values or something other then pure defense.

  2. From what I remember, the last time it was compiled (and this was Pre-Praetoria...) is that Lethal/Smash are the most common damage enemies can do, followed by Fire (most grenades, rockets, bombs, etc do Smashing AND Fire damage) with Energy/Neg/Psi/Toxic/Cold being less common depending on what you're fighting, but usually in that order (with energy being more common then neg, which is more common then psi, which is more common the toxic, which is more common then cold)

While some common enemies (Crey, Council, mid level CoT) have cold type powers, very few 'specialize' in it, like they do with Fire and Energy. I think the only enemy group in the whole game that uses pure cold powers are the Winter Horde, and those are only really available around the Holidays.

Okay, it's weird. I grabbed a Nerva Archipelago explore to test again, and it failed. Then the I went back and tried again after it recharged, and it worked. So I guess you have to wait for the unlock to take.

Zoning in or out of a location will usually refresh most things. Try that next time after you get a badge in an area.

I'm positively ancient as far as modern gamers go, so I use a really archaic control scheme that predates WASD:

Arrow keys with my left hand for movement, some camera and targeting controls bound to the home key block immediately above, CTRL to jump. I use the mouse in my right hand to manually target and/or click the powers in the tray. Combat in CoX is slow enough that I can get away with that, otherwise in games that require faster power execution I rebind the number row to the number pad in those games.

I use this exact setup, arrow keys for movement, then mouse for targetting/power selection. Even on my MM. I think I rebound shift to jump though, instead of CTRL.

Badges have always been character-specific, not account-wide.  HC hasn't changed that.

Not entirely true. Some badges were account-wide, like the old Veteran Badges, VIP badges, and other 'paid for' badges which are now character-specific.

I'm not talking about what the sets can do, but how they do it. Pet-based builds tend to get left in the dust by non-pet builds in highly mobile fights - which is the bulk of what happens in CoH. So a lot of the time in team play, you'll be left behind following in the wake of the team.

I main a bot/traps and I intentionally built it to take point and lead teams. With the right play style, and Super Speed, you can get bot/traps built in such a way that you can solo anything, and get to the end of missions faster then most people. Its all about the right play style.

  7. I'll have to go with Bot/traps. The Synergy between the sets is so nice, and its really easy to soft cap both yourself and the pets. With the new maintenance drone, it got exactly what it needed with another spot heal.

I've yet to run across any AV I can't solo, and I can handle most of the GMs with ease.

  8. Posi 1 is also pretty easy to solo, because there isn't an AV in it, and the clones are pretty easy to tackle if you're by yourself.

Posi 2 is a little harder to solo because Dr. Vahz will always be an AV and he hits kinda hard.

  9. I can get behind this, though there are ways to reduce your EXP earned already, by incurring debt. That reduces your EXP earned by about 50% while you're indebted. Granted, patrol XP works off debt, and patrol XP gives you 50% more EXP for its duration, so it might not be a reliable way to reduce your EXP

  10. My toons are mixed between Torchbearer and Excelsior, and my main is on Excelsior so I guess that's where I would want the base built on.

I'm thinkin 4-5 rooms, basically entrance, storage room, teleporter room, lounge area, and a room of power (i know we don't quite need all the fancy power generators and such anymore, but I would like to have them)

Time isn't really a concern, I'm taking a bit of a break from the game right now, but would love to be able to come back to a fully functional base.

Personally: Recharge is the most important for each, followed by Accuracy (especially if %procs are being leveraged!) The Damage slotting is simply because of what pieces were available in a given set; I treat these as primarily debuff powers.

One thing to consider, is Caltrops is autohit, so Acc isn't really that useful in it. Acid Mortar does need some Acc, but if I remember correctly it already has a decent Acc bonus (1.10?) and once you hit with it, the -def helps you hit again. Plus it stacks on itself, so multiple Acid Mortars means you're bound to get the debuff to land.

  12. You have to account for bodyguard mode with MMs and how damage scales with it. Also, looking at 'effective hit points' is a better measurement then a straight hp/sec measurement.

I don't have the numbers off hand, but a Heal over Time on a MM would be grossly overpowered with how Bodyguard Mode works right now. You'll basically make a tank mage against single targets, and with everything else /pain has going for it, you'll be amazing at mitigating AoE damage as well.

So other dramatic character changes across the life of the game? Aurora Borealis and Sister Psyche? That was a surprise to me. What about any arch villains?

Malaise multiple times over. First in the long forgotten Task Force (now Story Arc) from the original 'husband' of Aurora, to his change from being under Sister Psyche's wing as a sidekick/mental project to his flip in the SSA. His story is very convoluted and confusing if you try to untangle all the times he's mentioned.

If you "did all content" Hero side, tip of the mask wag of the cape!

I find it easy to do Redside and horrid to do Blue.  It sounds like you do not 'like' villany.  Because if you got through Blue.  Sheesh!  You musta loved that.

You might try running a bunch of TFs as a break.  It is an ENTIRELY different experience than soloing.  You have to adapt to various teams, use powers differently, and play a different way.

I did all the villain content that was on live, back on live, so I wanted to see if I could do all the hero side content on one character. I did a lot of locking my character at certain levels just to make sure I did all the available content. I even went through all the Gold Side stuff via the O-portal, and I've done about half of the red side stuff via O-portal as well.

Let me tell you about this thing I discovered..

It's called Altitis, I know what you might be thinking, but it is not that bad.  It is a little harder to shake than a full blown heroine addiction, but a lot more fun!

I definitely tried it. Even enjoyed it for awhile, but there's only so many times I can Go. Hunt. Kill Skuls. regardless of the character in front of me.

  16. Hey guys,

I recently finished all of the Hero side content, and I'm slowly working my way through the villain side, but I've lost some steam. I'm playing my bot/traps MM and I can't seem to find much joy or challenge in the game anymore. I'm in a bit of a funk but I want to enjoy the game again.

What 'new' thing could I do, what worthwhile AE arcs are there to play, what advice do ya'll have to bring that spark back to my soul?

Any help would be appreciated and welcome.
