  1. Yes, S/L should be at 45% when power boost is off. That said, while I'm always welcome to feedback and critiques, saying something is a "newbie mistake" is a bit unfair - I'd had ranged defense for a bit, but S/L ended up working better. The KDs from Water end up being quite hefty mitigation as it is, so hitting the easier to hit, "catch-all" S/L allows for building for more recharge, which helps the AoEs come up more frequently, which keeps mobs on their backs. Or trying to flee out of the Whirlpool, for that matter. Or, even, getting Tidal Forces and Water Jet to double-tap priority targets into nonexistence. In a pinch, 20% ranged defense is exactly one medium purple from softcap. Water also tends to be a more selfish powerset. It wants you to prioritize its powers to build/spend its Tidal stacks. In this sense, the blaps make for better use as being woven in as needed for the occasional Single Target needs. Further, if you're going a resist shield, you'd want Mu Mastery instead of Electrical for this reason - you don't need the Proc-Me-Up epic hold here. You've got enough attacks as it is, and Water Jet will serve you far, far better with those procs by mere dint of its double-tap nature.
  2. Oh, I've got one of these! I've got a build that I've been running that's been a lot of fun; I'll link it below. I found I liked Aqua Blast a bit better than Hydro Blast - it feels smoother and easier to work into a chain for the Tidal stacks. I also took Dehydrate and Steam Spray - of the two, Dehydrate could easily be shuffled and swapped for Total Focus, since Energize mostly keeps you happy and healthy as it is. Power Boost is also too nice to pass up, and on the below, takes Energy Defense right up to softcap (and the rest to within a medium purple of the same). Water Jet's procced up for the double-tap nuke (a personal preference holdover from when I built water on a corr). Tidal Forces and Build-up have synchronized recharges; Force Feedback on both Water Burst and Geyser for more recharge fun.
  3. I have an addition to add to this! For Fire and Ice melee, for the sword/greater sword powers, add an option to use the Original coloring for the opposite sword - you can currently select only the Color Tintable version of the opposite sword.
  4. This is the (also post-38) build I've been running on my Stone Brute. It's got a few personal touches like fold space, but is built for soft-cap, a touch of extra psi resistance, and as much run speed as I could crank out. Turning Minerals on puts him JUST shy of soft-cap psi defense, but boosting one of the globals on it (or moving a slot off Fold Space) would finish it off. There's not much extra Recharge on it, other than the five LotGs and the three 10%s, but the melee set I chose let me slot the FF proc a couple times to assist with that. Agility Radial gives End Mod for Stamina and the Epics, Defense for putting slots elsewhere, Recharge for recharge, and Move speed because fast granite goes vroom.   5. As a frequent participant in these raids, I can confirm this happens very frequently. I'm personally not often a target of the Bud Crash, though, despite my aging computer - so it doesn't feel like a graphics issue to me? Also to note, the last time I did get the bud-crash-to-desktop, it even was a bit of time after they'd spawned.
  6. ...Sometimes all you really need is someone to tell you you're not an idiot. Thanks for the review and the feedback! The defense stacking is a lot of fun for me - it's really satisfying when the numbers line up all nice. Same goes for hitting perma-hasten, too! Right now, he's got "why did I choose this" powers, "too many slots in this" slotting, "these should PROBABLY be updated" enhancements, and a "you need to go to rehab" addiction to Recovery Serum. Combine that with a propensity to run ahead and forget I'm not playing a full Tanker...well, I figure it's time I actually invest in making sure he can work with my play style. I trend towards a more supportive role, and even my more "selfish" ATs tend towards trying to pull mobs off the other squishies. In fact, my main scrapper and blaster are both ice, and have a tendency to throw controls around. But yes! I'll take a lot of what you said to heart. Charged Bolt does make more sense - I grabbed Lighting Bolt only because I figured my final recharge bonus would be enough that it'd recharge fast enough for whatever chain it ends up in. ...But even then, Charged Bolt is the faster animation one. Pretty sure that's the one i LIKE. Combat Jumping IO - yup, moved that. MUCH better spot, thanks! The Numina and Panacea procs were originally in Health - I moved them because "why not" and "ooh, shiny 12% regen!" I didn't even notice how little that actually was! I'm a bit reluctant to move the slot out of Parasitic Leech, if only because I read one of your posts mentioning getting the recharge down so it's up as often as possible. But that's good news! Because if I don't need accuracy on it, then I can just put a straight recharge IO in it! And, hell, I can probably just dump one or both of the aforementioned procs for the F/C defense. Or some actual procs. Aim was one of those powers that I said "I'll pick that up a bit later" and ended up forgetting about. I don't need Short Circuit, other than for the 10% recharge, which, if I switch out Agility, will mean no more perma-hasten. But it also means I can slot Retified and the Gaussian's proc (and a Rech IO to get it closer to Thunderous Blast, like you mentioned. I like that idea). And of course, doing all that means I don't even need the Defense from Agility any longer. Which didn't affect Mind Link's recharge anyway, because now I know Mind Link doesn't take normal Recharge IOs. So here goes Musculature! Not the radial, though, because apparently with Athletic Run I'm capped at run speed anyway. Psychic Shockwave is there as a mule, sadly. I'm not high enough yet to have it and actually know what it's like in play. I've grown fond of having sets to slot while leveling, and my big toons have been relegated to funding the little ones. I also figure I can always cannibalize the sets later with a respec if I'm unhappy. Dominate would likely be a better step-up towards Mind Link, since it's another good spot for procs, as it looks, and I could probably get away with 2.5% less S/L defense and 6% less F/C resist, but. Psychic Shockwave could also hold the FotG proc, too, since I'm dumping Short Circuit. If you made it through my rambling, this is the build with a first pass with the tweaks as above. I truly, genuinely appreciate the response and the wisdom! I'll keep working on it and learn even more! EDIT, RE: brasilgringo: Oh, nice! That does look like a fun build - that's a lot of procs on things. I wasn't sure about Voltaic Sentinel, and ended up not taking it...at some point I may try to find a way to include it. Thanks for posting it - I can see some things I might be able to use for my own build!
  7. So, I've got this character that I've been futzing with for a while. He's often in the backseat of my roster, just because I genuinely have had no idea where I wanted to go with him. The whole Sentinel role thing admittedly confuses me a bit, as well. In that sense, I would genuinely appreciate some...guidance as to What I should be looking to do. I've read a bunch of posts, and listened to as much second-hand advice as I can, so I do have Some vague ideas (eg. proccing up attacks, etc). That said, I did my best to come up with a build for him. I legitimately never solo (which may be why I'm lost on the seemingly solo-centric Sentinel?), but I highly value being self-sufficient. The build I came up with prioritizes Defense, then Recharge; it has soft-cap to Melee, and then S/L/E/N with Defensive Adaptation. Hasten and Link Minds are perma (Hasten with Agility alpha, Link MInds...doesn't seem to utilize the alpha on Mids, which may be a bug, but should be perma regardless). There aren't nearly as many procs, I guess, as would be most beneficial to damage (The only truly floating slot I had was put in Short Circuit for the Res Debuff, though I'm open to other suggestions (eg. would slotting Kismet be better, even with the Link Minds +ToHit?)), but I'm hoping that going into Offensive Adaptation will sort that out somewhat. Agility Alpha for the Recharge and the Defense - Radial as well for the slight boost in movement (no travel power and didn't want Hover) and the End Mod is nice because elec blast, but don't need the bigger boost. Degenerative Interface because I tossed a coin between that and Reactive. Ageless Destiny for more recharge, and Radial to help prevent cascading defense debuffs. Assault Hybrid for more damage. I'm planning on taking another pass at it eventually (I kind of want to see if I can add Warp Space), but it's quite serviceable. I dislike using flight on him, so he's got 15 KB prot - moving one of the KB IO slots to Death Shroud will reduce that to 11 but gain a hefty 6% Toxic res if inclined.   9. So, I'm having an absolute devil of a time with this blaster. There are so many boxes I want to check off, but I just can't seem to get all of them in one go, and I've scrapped and restarted builds in Mids to the point where I have a whole folder of drafts just for him. I kept trying to get S/L/R softcapped, and hasten down to (close to) perma, and also have Bonfire and the res shield, but also have the melee attacks for blapping, but also have fly/hover for hover blasting, and I just can't find focus with all the things I want to do. Considering I almost exclusively team, a little lack of focus isn't terrible, but...it'd be nice if I could find something to settle with. As it is, I'll probably have multiple builds slotted up (one each for blapping, hover-blasting, and glass cannoning) eventually, but for now I just need one to be happy with. Basically, I need another pair of eyes and a more experienced hand to give me a bit of feedback and advice. I don't like to show up to these things with my own hands empty, so I've got a couple of builds...one fully ranged and softcapped in the same, and one blapper-oriented with ranged only softcapped under Power Boost.   10. Is it bad that I went with the Range Increase for the couple of inches it would add to my melee attacks? (Answer: yes. yes it is.) All of this makes so much sense, and I'm really glad you were able to provide me with a second set of eyes. The two survival procs (the heal and the absorb) ARE probably overkill as far as everything is concerned, and some damage would be nice. The only reason I went for Ghost Widow over Unbreakable Restraint, though, was for the...I guess relatively exotic psychic damage over the smashing? Though honestly more likely more than that, I forgot there even was a purple set in Holds! I'm so used to just throwing the KB prot in everything - even my main tanker is a Dark Armor - so the very idea of putting something else in that slot is completely foreign to me. The Slow Resist is such a much better idea. The Power Transfer proc, though...to be honest, that whole slot was the last one I placed, just because I couldn't think of anywhere else to put the slot. If I keep it where it is (nothing is ever a final draft!), though, I'll definitely do your suggestion - a bit more regen is much better than unnecessary +Movement.   11. So I've been taking my time leveling, reading other builds on the forum, and figuring out new things about the powersets and whatnot. I've made a few changes to the build above - hopefully improvements - for anyone that might be interested. The build does focus on hitting soft-cap defenses (originally just for smashing/lethal, but then the rest were close enough to 45 to say "why not?"), since I favor survivability. I also tend to team as often as possible, so I placed -Res procs where I could to maximize team potential over my own. As far as incarnate stuff...I still don't know what quite to work for, but will probably end up throwing towards whatever adds damage and calling it a day.
