I had a couple of extensive calendar posts for the Hami raids on Torchbearer, but are now nowhere to be found. Much as I like to run on at the keyboard, I'd really rather not have to work those up again. Are they completely gone or is this a glitch?

For me it boils down to one thing, at the core. Taking and never giving. Whether that is standing there not actively participating or coming only for what you need and not contributing back. And for that reason, I'm out.

I've been leading the ToT league on Torchbearer for the last, idk, 4 years. I appreciate that we've had some amazing folks step up to the plate in the last few years. We've gotten new folks to run the league, take up scouting, and other volunteer activities. 

 

That being said. I am officially fed up. I'm not running this next year and maybe not ever again. Here are some of my personal pet peeves from the last handful of years.

You have all of these kick a$$ GMs that volunteer their time for free. Players lead events and run content all of the time. It's not too much to ask that you earn your keep in an environment where everything else is handed to you.
  • What it comes down to is this, if I can manage to keep track of 47 other people, people waiting in the wings, moving teams around, hunting GMs, running banners, zombie invasions, and monitoring league, local, broadcast, LFG chat, and tells......if I can do all of that and be participating, you can keep your one toon active.
  • I also understand with many of the holiday events, the cumulative amount of team damage done depends on if you even get credit or a badge for a particular event. I try to keep team damage as evened out as I can. In speaking of sponging, I have now gotten into the habit of moving all spongers to the same team. Still on the league. Want to complain that you aren't getting XP, badges, merits, threads? You are putting in the exact same amount of effort and damage as everyone else on your team. 

 

• Not reading. OMG, such a huge pet peeve. I get it, my adverts are dumb and silly. But when it comes to managing ToT events, I actually put up useful information. Read it.
  • For example, I have running banners about as efficient as I can make it. When I tell you I need some w/ Incan on X, Y, or Z banner, I need someone, anyone. If no one speaks up I have to log in alts to TP. I can't tell you how aggravating it is to have logged in 2 alt accounts just to move people and then have someone who didn't say anything have and use Incan.
  • Look at the league window. If you're at the top of a team, you are there because you are 50. When you decide to log or alt, you team jumps down to the next in line, that could be 47 or 12. Everyone else left on that team exemps down to one level below that. I can always tell when this happens because 2/3 of the team automatically dies. I'll level with you, being a team lead w/in the league has zero responsibilities aside for replacing yourself w/ another 50. I'm not going to ask you to do anything more than that.
  • If you are serving a particular role, like scouting, tell me if you're leaving. That way someone can take over what you were doing.
  • When I say that I cannot move player positions w/in a specific team, I mean it. If the 50 drops and the current lead is AFK or doesn't know how to promote, I have to literally pull the entire team apart to get a 50 in charge. If I have very few league spots open it will take a super long time or I will have to kick people off entirely to restructure. Most of our scouts realize when this happens and will hold off on teleporting until fixed.

 

• Lack of volunteerism. I've done this event for a few years. A lot of people come back year after year. Once people truly understand the ridiculous number of moving parts this event takes, many will volunteer to take on roles. Once their destiny slot is open, they'll get Incan. It's the most used power in this entire event. I will happily show you the scout locations for GM spawns. I'll explain what you need to do for banners and zombies.
  • Conversely, I have people that return year after year to do nothing but take advantage of the generosity of the league. I know you have dozens of 50+s, I know you have all Tier IV incarnates, don't tell me you need more threads to make Incan, you could have made it 37 times over by now. You only need 1 level for Incan to get the only benefit we need from it. You have 60 threads.
  • Look, I get that running the league is complex. I am happy to teach folks how to do it. Aside from ToT, we use league format for Winter events, Hami, SNS, iTrials, and various other TFs, or content. We don't want you to rely on the same people all of the time, we get burned out.

 

• If the league is not full, but you don't want to join, that's your decision. Want to play alongside the league, weird, but whatever. I can only do so much, so asking for me to tell the wider public everything we're doing, not likely to happen. 
  • Generally I follow the same formula year after year. Banners go in color order, Red>Purple. Zombies are always at Portal Corp parking. GM hunts happen when we have enough damage to get it done. We do not leave PI to pursue the events in other zones. (Except Supa Troll Raves. "Gotta go!"  j/k ofc)
  • I don't do tip teams anymore w/in the league. I tried it once. It was a pain. Not worth it.

 

• I am not a GM, I am a player. ToT league is a player led event. I follow the CoC and try to play w/in the spirit of the game. I love to have new players, explain the game, help get people into the community, but I have my limits. I can and do use my global ignore.

Shout out to the small, but powerhouse group on the Red Side this afternoon. With about 14 dastardly participants we managed to get the banners down with about 30 seconds to spare and the Greater Mystic. You all get a Red Rider BB rifle for Xmas! Just don't shoot your eye out.

If you get this tip, see if the league can set up a team for running these.   Every so often, you'd get someone below 50 start the mission causing the whole team to drop level.

 

I mentioned this for Torchbearer's league. It will randomly drop the one team to a low level, which during the PI events, is going to wipe the rest of your team. We tried running a Tip team w/in the league, but it was too much hassle during any of the zone events. Since then we do not run tips w/in the league itself. Generally speaking if you can get multiple people that have these, they can drop and run together, which clears the whole thing faster for all of the rewards.

Individual leagues or shards may have different etiquette involved. I've already put up Torchbearer's etiquette for the season, but it remains largely unchanged from year to year.

 

Soloing at the Motel and leaving your mobs behind isn't terrible, as they will get taken down. Leaving mobs elsewhere is kind of like littering. Please clean up after yourself. Even if you spawn 50 +3 mobs in PI, you might have some low 40's get wiped out. For GM hunts in PI (or any zone) itself, you need to clear out the Unseelies as they will prevent a new GM spawn and they are a right pain to search for.

 

If you want to solo or run a team, that's your prerogative. You can invite whomever you want. Want to multiboxing on a team by yourself, eh. Multibox on a team with others, if they're cool with it I guess. It's your team, invite whomever you like.

 

As we've run it on Torch, we have a few ground rules. Frequent or prolonged AFKs will be kicked to make room for active players. I typically invite in the order that was asked and endeavor to not play favorites (unless I need a 50). Multiboxing is heavily discouraged, with only 2 specific exceptions. Homecoming's multiboxing CoC are the community rules, but as a player led event, I reserve the right to limit you to one spot on my league when others are waiting. AFK multiboxing on the league, that's multiple kicks. We leave the league open to anyone that wants to join, participate, and be nice. As I've said, other leagues or shards may follow different rules. Generally speaking playing alongside the league is usually fine.

That is so true. League leads cannot change player position within the teams themselves so it's a lot of work to get it rearranged.

Werewolves, vampyri, and zombies out in full view, may bring out new costumes and salvage for you. Banners and Rikti and Zombies, what fun, we'll continue the mayhem 'til the dawning of the sun.

 

 

Mayhem Motel is currently hiring for numerous positions.

 

Management (League Leads) : Ideal candidates will have good working familiarity with managing a full league. This includes monitoring teams to ensure a current lvl 50 team lead for each team. Multi-boxing is discouraged unless there is need for an additional lvl 50 team anchor/return teleporter. 

 

Front Desk Staff (Team Leads) : Ideal candidates are lvl 50. Team leads are encouraged to add members to their teams if they have space. Teams leads are the level anchor for their team. If you are logging or alting, please request an additional lvl 50 be added to your team to be promoted to your place. We request that team leads max out their settings at +4 x8 to get the highest level mobs from disturbed guest rooms. League leaders are unable to move player positions within a team, so make sure to promote.

 

Tour Guides (GM Scouts) : Ideal candidates will have at least 1 level of Incandescence Invocation (Only 60 incarnate threads). This is a league-wide teleport so that the entire league (+/-) can be moved from location to location. Scouts will be provided with flight plan if unfamiliar with the route. An additional tour guide will be necessary to return and greet guests at Mayhem Motel. Several tour guides can be used to hunt islands and town proper. Eochai and Jack in Irons outside of Croatoa offer different badges for the event, plus 6 reward merits for each 'arrest'. Also taking out the Unseelie Court is a separate badge.

 

Concierge People Movers : Ideal candidates will have at least 1 level of Incandescence Invocation. Independent of GM scouting, the league will require multiple People Movers to have Incan for the Deadly Apocalypse (Banners). Preferably we will have 5 separate characters with Incan, one for each banner and one to scout for the Greater Mystic Aspect. Teleporters are also supremely helpful when getting into rotation for Zombies/Rikti invasions to keep spawn rates high.

 

Motel Turn Down Service (Trick or Treaters) : Ideal candidates will need to be on Blue Side and transportation to Peregrine Island. Any level is accepted. Management requests that if a team loses their lvl 50 anchor and one is present on your team, please promote them to Team lead. If there is not, calmly move towards management and request a lvl 50 be shifted to your team to anchor. If the guest with the team star isn't sure what to do, please kindly explain. League leaders are unable to move player positions within a team, so please promote if you can. Ask if you can't. Madness and Mayhem are highly encouraged. 

 

 

General requests from Mayhem Motel :

• The morgue (hospital) is conveniently located across the street from Mayhem Motel for ease of resurrection.
  • Although we request that you do not hit on the nurses, they're working hard enough. You can head there to sell off salvage, recipes, and enhancements. 
• Guests waiting to check into Mayhem Motel are asked to be patient. When the league takes off, it gets full quickly. Guests are generally added in the order requested. (So make sure to ask in local or broadcast) Spots will only be held if asked for and the new guest name provided. No one is being purposely ignored, I pinky promise.
• Guests currently lodging at Mayhem Motel are requested to have one party per room. Multiboxing is discouraged when the league is full (excepting when requiring an additional lvl 50 team anchor/return teleporter).
• Management pursues all events as they happen, generally speaking. If we do not, it's mainly d/t league lead's unfamiliarity with how we typically play out a particular event. Zombie Apocalypse or Rikiti invasions will make liberal use of Incandescence Invocation. Typically these invasions happen in the parking lot in front of Portal Corp. Management understands that the practice of 'Incan in Place' is annoying, however this keeps aggro and spawn rates high, but also to keep the invaders away from the drones. (Teleport prompt can be placed if you want, but the more people that move with each TP, the better this works.) Beatings will continue until invaders get tired.
• Management is not responsible for zone caps. As this event has become more popular over the years, it's possible that a particular instance of PI will cap out. 
• Management encourages the use of complimentary holiday costumes provided the great city of Paragon in order to be gifted with Whispered Rumors tips. Management, however, will not be hosting any side excursions for Whispered Rumors. You may feel free to drop and pursue this independently or with a team, but guests will be subject to waiting in turn to rejoin the league. Having a Tip Team within the league is too problematic for the league play in general.
• The XP bug continues to lovingly be an ongoing 'feature'. (I luv you devs, I swear) If your XP seems low, ask to be moved to a different team (if space), or ask to drop and get re-invited. 
• If you have the You Cannot Enter box open on your screen it can prevent you from seeing the teleport prompt screen (if enabled). You can turn off TP prompt if you like to make sure you don't miss out on any of the 'fun'?
• If you need to be AFK briefly please let management know. Prolonged or frequent AFK will be kicked to make room for active players. It's only fair.
• We might try our hand at running this on Red Side again. If I can remember where that spot was that I found last year or if anyone knows of a good spot with tons of doors.

 

Community requests:

• Please be kind and patient with league leaders. Some folks that are in charge of the league might be old hand and some may be in process of getting their training wheels off. Running the league, managing zone events, adding/removing 47 players is a challenge. It's the Golden Rule for a reason, treat others as you wish to be treated.
• Homecoming continues to add new players all of the time. Not everyone is familiar, or has ever participated, with the ToT league. We try our best to explain but we never turn down an upstanding hero or villain willing to help explain or show someone the ropes. Also, don't be afraid to ask, Torchbearer is a super amazing shard with lots of nice people with 'happy feelings'.
• When you're out on Monkey Island, make sure to drown some AOE attacks or Ion Judgement for bonus monkeys towards your Zoo Keeper badge.
• We do ask for league leads (lvl 50) to swap out or rotate. It's nice for all of us to run new toons thru the event. If you wanna learn the ropes, just ask us. We'll gladly you show you how. The more people that know how to run the ToT league keeps the party going nonstop. 

• Please remember that ToT league is entirely a player led event as we run it. If you cannot be civil and gracious, please do not participate with us. We try our best, we try to be fair, and we're here to have a good time. If we're not having fun, then we're done.

• Lastly, Paragon PD, the zone of Peregrine Island, and Paragon City council have given up on shutting down the event, but we don't need to rub their noses in it. Please make sure to properly dispose of all trash, litter, body parts, and corpses in the appropriate receptacles. Recycling is also acceptable and encouraged.

[What's the smallest change to CoX that you really want?]

As we discuss color palate, I agree the brightness of some colors is too much. Then there are times when all of the colors are too much. In Hami, for instance, that is just too much for my eyes. As someone that get migraines frequently, it's a huge trigger. But a lot of us are older and developing eye problems anyway. What I like to see on an individual player side option is the ability to globally turn off all effects. The base game colors are bright enough that I don't need fluorescent pink trying to stab me in the eye with an ice pick.

I made a duck-ish version of Matlock, called Murder I Quacked. a parody of Flea from the Chili Peppers, an homage to Odd Jobs, a total homage to Boy George circa 1980's, and a general parody of everyday life. Honestly the sad part of the conversation is that for those that know me, none of this even matters. I am generally inclusive of everyone participating in whatever they want or anything I have going. I run a lot of content and I make a point of including whoever wants to join. I'll invite total strangers to my SG and let them use whatever I have so long as they don't take everything and sell it. So to come to the forums and have people accuse me of being elitist or a snob just makes me upset. CoH is a great community for a MMO but I find I have to take longer and longer breaks away from the game. No one is entitled to give or receive a thing, but there sure a lot of gift horses being looked in the mouth.

I don't agree nor disagree with this statement other than to say that Mids makes my eyes go cross. That is the one part of the game I supremely suck at. And as much I love to make new toons, I loathe to kit them out. The time, effort, and brain power involved is better suited to my true talent................faceplanting.

 

Otherwise I agree with the general sentiment. Not that I am against PL'ing anyone, but you churn out a fresh 50 that doesn't know how to play either that toon or the game.

Just going to throw in my two cents for Torchbearer in and run off to go faceplant somewhere. Saturday nights, after our second Hami raid, Kali runs a 'Saturday night Synapse', but on a larger scale. Last Saturday we had about 6 teams running Synapse in tandem and with some coordination managed to spawn 5 Babbages at the same time. Heck one night we even had a Kronos Titan for fun, and maybe a Jack or Eochai during October, on top of multiple Babbages. It's definitely not for the prude-at-heart as the convos get a bit racy, but it's fun. Sometimes the teams are good, sometimes it's just like herding cats.

• I run Hollows because Frostfire was the OG Villain. (Level 5? Time to hit the Hollows) I'll turn off earning XP b4 hitting 15 to finish out the zone. Completing Talshek's arc will unlock CoT
  • Croatoa I run all of the time to unlock Katie (and it's my favorite zone)
  • Just did the whole Faultline last night
  • Run Striga to unlock Mechman
    • Caverns of Transcendence, Katie Hannon, and Mechman require unlocks to lead those TF/trials
• Redside, on Torch has a population. Not that I am over there that often but I did try out running a ToT group redside on the last day. Managed Banners, Zombies, and a few GM hunts even though we only had about 14 people.
• Otherwise, many times we'll run the story mission for getting your Fake Nemesis' badge
• Farm CoT for Igneous bosses
• Holiday stuff, Halloween and the Winter events

 

• Personally I like to do DiB but not too many folks are familiar with that one.
• There are zones out there that really don't have content (story arcs), that I wish they did, such as Boomtown
• Sometimes we make up our own events. Saturday night Synapse with multiple Babbages. Did a bowling event one time. Tanker Tuesday, TF Tuesday, Hami, Hamicides on the weekend.

A lot of it depends on where you play and when. I wish more ppl would take the initiative to run other content. On Torch, eh, I don't think we're that big on costume contests. Base building, maybe. Some folks have gone out of their way to make public bases with all teleport options available. GM hunts are always popular. Queued up for a team... Supradine raid is in progress....Gotta go. We'll run radios to get the free unlocks, esp Talos (SC) bank mish for the free ATT. DFBs all of the time (please admit when you don't know how to get the Vhaz badge, I don't mind explaining)

IDK, on Torch it's hard to tell sometimes. Many of our regs abandoned ship to other shards for higher pops, but Torch is my home. Don't be afraid to embarrass yourself, I do it every day. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Debt is just another badge, and I am way, way, way, way, way, way, way ahead of you all in that department.

Mostly just make new costumes for existing toons. But For Halloween a couple years back I did make.........

Does make me irritated when other team leaders do not do this. A lot.  If i ask a team leader for a spot and they say yes, then i reply side switching only to find my spot is gone.  Grrrrrr

Honestly, the worst issue I have with forming teams is I ask people to send me a tell if they want a spot. They don't send a tell, but then show up in zone asking for a spot that I gave to someone who directly asked for it. Or the ones who send a tell after we're 5 minutes into the mission or TF/Trial. But I also think that team leaders need to be better about saying when their team is full so people know to stop asking.

Agreed. This is usually why Halloween and Winter events are 'flipped' on on a Tuesday during maintenance/downtime. Halloween typically will be the first Tuesday in October, sometimes the Tuesday before. Winter would be the same. So either today or the first Tues in Dec.
