I always felt once the mobs get CC’d, they should get damaged more considering they’re defenseless.

For example, a Lost mob get mesmerized, a teammate use Haymaker for x2 damage or something like that due to CC’d. I’d imagine that will increase the value of controllers/dominators.

I kind of think that's the idea behind Containment for Controllers. Unfortunatly, I agree that it doesn't go far enough. The idea that if something is "mezzed" enough times it should count as death/being arrested (also stated earlier in the thread) is a brillant one.  . . and would be a huge undertaking for our small volunteer dev team, soooo probably not happening anytime soon. Maybe by 2034. lol

Wow, I'm honored to have had the same thought as him 🥰

    Genuinely that made my night

I think it's clear from the various responses that the comparison was NOT a compliment.

Jack had some weird ideas that were counter to each other for version 1.0 or pre-1.0 of this game.

A lof ot his ideas would have killed off this game if not for the sense of many others.

Thanksfully a lot of changes over the weeks, months and years after that version of the game led us to where we are today.

  3. I was 21 when I had a good enough job to get a "good" computer (and finally cable internet vs dialup) and finally try out one of the new breed of MMOs/games.

At the time I finally got to try out: Baldur's Gate II, World of Warcraft, Star Wars Galaxies and ofcourse City of Heroes.

Happy Anniversary all! Glad to see the old devs still a part of this crazy train. 😄

On Everlast, Awesome Fairy is recently taken and parked.  You would have to go with something like Awful Fairy

    Fairy Terribad

    Terribad Fairy

    Baddy Fairy

    TerriFairy

    Baddest Fairy

    I could go on. lol

That's....a post alright. I'm just going to drop out of this thread now. Although I do have to ask; is there a form I can fill out before I can ask you to come in and defend me or is invoking you enough?

Bro chill. Frostbiter is actually not that original. One of the ways you can get the name you want is to add extra characters or tense. So yeah would not be suprised to see variations of "Frostbite" easily taken. Especially in a game where you can easily make characters having to do with ice control.

I am open minded enough to ask and hear Shin's answer and then try not to quibble over it. Simple clarification regarding context.

    -------- -- --------

I and likely others would love to see the Brute ATO fixed if broken and would welcome a Brute buff so long as the tradeoff isn't punitive to existing characters for the benefit of mostly min/max endgame builds. This is normally my baseline.

Well yeah the game is thankfully not balanced around min maxed builds. It's just ONE of the many things taken into account. The devs have said repeatedly (whether a lot of forum regulars like it or not) that the game is not balanced around IOs.

Right, I used the wrong term.  It would be a high-magnitude Hold, the kind that deactivates toggle powers and prevents the targets from acting at all, not a Sleep or a Disorient.  There's a bunch of synonyms for similar effects that do varying degrees of the same thing, and sometimes I get them mixed up.  The power descriptions aren't consistent about them either, which makes the matter more difficult to keep straight.

The drawback is the Brute only has one of them, in this one power, and they dump their damage to use it.

I like it. And it's not really a drawback when building fury isn't really an issue.

I can understand and appreciate the perspective of super high-end 4* team play.  But that is only part of the game.  Soloists play.  Some people get to level 50 and then shelve it before getting incarnates and accolades and start at another.  Some people just want to look cool and create a superhero they thought about as a kid.  All are valid ways to play.

It seems to me that the devs, live and HC, have tried to reign in the top end and boost the bottom end.  And that makes sense to me, even if I, as a player, have complained about some of the nerfs handed down over the years.

    oh boy . . . . lol

EDIT: I hope the eventual solution is changes to Brutes that ALL or at least 90% of Brute players can agree to. Not another nerf to Tanks.

EDIT: The Brute ATO should at the very least be updated.

I actually directly proved that tank nerfs wouldn't make brutes more desirable a few months ago, so I do hope the solution isn't just to nuke tanks. They should keep some of the power they've been given - but brutes should have something that makes you want to roll a brute. I can't even fathom a brute I could tolerate right now if procs got whacked, they're more dependent on them than tanks are.

Maybe by default, since the entire scrapper class would crumble if the ato gets caught in the blast.

That is also my other fear when these types of suggestions come up. That the eventual soluton "becuase powercreep" will be to harshly nerf Tanks, while doing little for brutes.

As someone who plays "Bad" options, I would prefer we not base corrections on popularity. 😛

Being popular just means it should be even more heavily considered for proper balance, as more people are affected by it.

Pretty much this. Also after the Fire Armor changes . . . I am very way when I see someone suggest changes they think everyone wants that might very make a set or AT worse for multiple players of said set or AT.

  11. 1 hour ago, Shin Magmus said:

The popularity of an AT (or powerset) has no bearing on how good it is.  If popularity determined quality, then Call of Duty would be the best video game of all time.  Empathy would be the best buff/debuff powerset of all time (when it's actually currently the worst choice you can pick since the FF rework and so many buffs to its other competition).  Just because a lot of people made AE farming brutes: doesn't mean anything.  Don't use popularity as a reason for anything in a discussion like this.

Right, then the devs should be looking at the numbers on actual performance.

  12. 1 hour ago, skoryy said:

There's a balance to strike between 'this is what the number crunching says' and 'this is what the players are actually doing.'

In those cases where multiple players are saying different things (in this case there is definetly NOT any consensus at all on Brute performance from players) I would hope the devs then look at the related numbers.

Yeah, I would generally agree that spreadsheet nerds are more important to the health of the game than forum "well it feels fine" types.

    I mean . . . the devs are the ULTIMATE spreadsheet nerds  . . . so yeah.

EDIT: And yeah . . . "this feels great" for balancing a game . . . err would not be great. LOL

What does the number of posts have to do with anything?

Absolutley nothing. Just more bait making it easier to get this thread perma locked.

EDIT: If folks actually want to debate this and take it seriously, maybe personal attacks should be left off the table. But that's just me.

Saying "I don't agree with the proposed change to Brutes as it would change how I and other play brutes" is not a negative thing or an attack.

Not every suggestion is going to be meant with a chorus of "yes I agree". Pointing out the cons of a suggestion does not go againts the ruiles or point of this forum.

I mean, there's an awful lot of brutes I see out in the wild despite the constant refrain around here of 'Brutes Bad'.

That's cause the playerbase at large rarely if ever reflects the forums. I always take complaints on the forums with a grain of salt

Seeing how the devs can actually datamine who actually plays what . ..

it sounds like OP doesn't want to go through the hassle of

turning off travel powers when entering combat &

turning on travel powers when leaving   combat so

as a compromise perhaps, travel power could detoggle themselves

when and only when players choose to make an attack?

And what do you do for players who keep their travel powers on while attacking?

If they do this it should ONLY be an option you pick in a setting. It should not apply for everyone.

Some folks have their build set up so that they can attack and run travel powers at the same time. That should NOT change.

Hate to sound negative but I agree with the folks worried about changes to DA being done. They will absolutely overcomplicate it and change the feel of the set. At times it feels like their aim is to shave all the edges off until we're left with watered down mediocrity, or stuff that only feels strong when specific conditions are met as @ShinMagmus suggested.

My first character way back in Issue 4 was a Claws/DA scrapper and I've enjoyed dark armor ever since.

I agree DA is a pretty underwhelming set, but I also have an S/L soft-capped perma-hasten DB/DA scrapper that absolutely rips. Of course I only use half the powerset, which sucks.

The only changes I would be in favor of would be to give DA KB protection and straight up buff cloak of fear and oppressive gloom numerically without changing them. The self rez... I dunno. DA doesn't really need a tier 9 godmode power. I would turn it into a Diablo 3 style cheat-death auto power. When you are defeated, you instantly unleash a blast of darkness that stuns all enemies in an x foot radius (stacks with oppressive gloom) and restores half your health. Give it an unenhanceable  internal cooldown of 90 seconds or something.

Then I'd call it good to go.

The only reason I wouldn't change Dark Regeneration is because I flat out reject the notion that this game needs to be balanced without consideration of the existence of IOs, and therefore, DR is pretty good with IOs.

As a DA toon was my frist 50 on live (and I've thus recreated that toon about 3 times here on Homecoming) I have to agree. Please leave it alone. Don't want to see it unncessarily gutted due to "/powercreep" worries.

  18. 14 minutes ago, PoptartsNinja said:

The problem with universal damage sets is: they're unique. So if you slot this as a set, you get no real benefit because all of your tools are in one set; and if you slot them individually you obsolete an existing tool: the Sudden Acceleration KB to KD, which only does KB to KD. I suspect obsoleting Sudden Acceleration is the OP's intent: trying to render an existing tool useless by introducing more powerful versions of the same tool. Which I can't really agree with.

What would be neat would be some new common sets for range/melee/ranged aoe/melee aoe whose 6th slot bonus was an inherent KB to KD proc. Something like:

    Pulled Punches (30-50)
    Acc/Dam
    Dam/End
    Acc/Rech
    Acc/Dam/End
    Acc/Dam/Rech
    Acc/Dam/End/Rech

    2) X% recovery
    3) X% energy/negative resistance
    4) X% Energy/Negative/Melee Def
    5) X% recharge
    6) KB to KD

With some reasonable but not overwhelming set bonuses that cap out with a KB to KD for the people who are more interested in fishing for bonuses than proc bombing.

Better and more likely to be considered by the devs versus the original suggestion.

Even if you didn't, it meant that everyone else that would have filled or created teams for task forces and trials were doing mapserver instead. Not a big deal if you play solo, but if you wanted those task forces, you had some rather slim pickings.

That's true of every event. Even more so for the halloween one.

With that said I mostly avoided Mapserver as every one I was on seemed to lag even more than rikti and zombie invasions. The frist time I experienced the slide show I just wrote them off completely.

    Glad others enjoyed it though.

Well, I wasn't going to add more to this subject but since the little barbs keep on coming I'll add some more after all since some people seem obtuse to what a devil's advocate it.

When we claim something in this forum we usually ask for a dev to chime in, and when they have then it's the word of god and it's settled.

When there are lore doubts in GW2 and confirmation is asked because so much stuff is head-canon and a dev chimes then the matter is settled.

When confirmation is required in Blizzard forums a blue name is usually asked for, and when it replies the matter is settled.

In none of these are people from outside chiming in accepted as actual proof.

The point I was trying to make which is then lost in 'Sovera does not believe we actually have NCsoft's permission, hahaha, what a moron!' is that we have Homecoming word it is done, and a magazine. Do I actually expect NCsoft to make a press release about this? No. Do I assume Homecoming and the magazine are lying? Also no.

Perhaps it was my fault for assuming that 'devil's advocate' was a well known idea, but this is the same forum that had a whole brouhaha because niggardly had an N, an I, and two Gs so omg don't use that word.

Devil’s advocate doesn’t mean denying reality.

Don't know, what I do know is that I called out said devs on the subreddit for directly attacking Cipher and making up conspiracy theories about HC infiltrating PC Gamer to manufacture a spokesperson from NCSoft to confirm their deal, and was subsequently permabanned for it. 🙂

    So, eh. No big loss.

Worth the ban if you ask me. GG sir/ma’am!
