There are by far my favorite class. Electric isn’t the best though.  It’s a lot of fun on stalker as they have a pretty good st chain cause of AS and lighting rod doesn’t break stealth (which I think is incredibly stupid and makes no sense).

im at 12 scrappers, 5 tanks, and 1 brute.   I wish I could find more brutes to play. Theme is only reason I kept the one. And kinda want 1 of each class at 50.

anyway, scrappers are great. The atos make a big difference. I’d get both procs at lvl 10.

    Is this right? The ATOs you mention are;

    • Critical Strikes: Recharge/+50% Critical Hit Chance Proc and
    • Scrapper's Strike: Recharge/Critical Hit Bonus?

Do I buy 5 of each?

So... I have a number of characters whose concept includes powered armour (like Iron Man, or similar).  Pretty well all of them just use Invulnerability, but it seems to me there might be a place for an actual power set depicting powered armour.  Here's a quick rundown of some ideas, perhaps we can start a discussion and work out something they could consider making!

    1. Armour Plate (Passive) Adds 20% resistance to Smashing/Lethal.

    2. Ceramic Plate (Passive) Adds 20% Resistance to Fire/Energy/Cold.

    3. Life Support (Toggle) Adds 10% Defense to Toxic/Radiation/Negative

    4. Ablative Plate (Click) Adds a pool of Temporary Hit Points

    5. Exoskeleton (Toggle) Resists Knock/Immobilize/Sleep/Immobilize/Hold/Disorient

    6. Refractive Coating (Passive) +10% Defense vs Smashing/Lethal/Energy

    7. Fusion Reactor (Passive) +20% Endurance Recovery Rate

    8. Emergency Battery (Click) Immediate +50% Heal, +50% Endurance

    9. Overcharger (Click) +40% Resistance to all, +50% Endurance discount

Obviously it needs work, but this is the first notion off the top of my head.

You've listed your powers without a theme. Latter powersets were implemented with secondary mechanics - you know, dual blades has combo system, other sets have other side-effects going on.

What's the secondary mechanic? The overall concept: A reason why the power suit is different from the other defense sets. What's it's Unique Selling Point? Does it have a battery that charges up as you get hit and discharges when it's full, for example? Or does it have a battery that starts a battle at full power and runs out of juice as you get hit, somehow regaining charge in another way?

  3. There are two types of Defense sets:

Resist - where you reduce incoming damage.

Defense - where you increase the chance to avoid incoming damage.

Both of these things are cool and all.

I just wondered how they work on a thematic level? How do you headcannonball them?

Here's what I could come up with.

    RESIST:

    Elect -

    Dark -

    Fire -

Invulnerability - you get hit but your "invulnerability" means it does less damage. Makes sense.

    Rad -

WillPower - you reduce the damage through dulling the pain (hello invulnerability, can I have my power back please?)

    Bio? -

    DEF:

Shield - the shield gets hit instead of you?

Stone  - you're inside a "shell", so although you get hit, "you" don't get hit?

Super Reflexes - ye, you avoid the damage. Perfecto.

  4. When I say this what I mean is, if you're thinking of making a guide, THIS is the gold standard.

Also, please do make guides for the other classes, they  I desperately need them and the person who made the guide above didn't do any other classes.

That depends on your point of view.

    Confront:                                 Provoke:

70 ft range                               60 ft range

1 target                                    5 targets max (15 ft radius)

    3s recharge                              10s recharge

    23.1s taunt                              12.32s taunt

    -75% range (12s duration)        --

So it depends on the player and how they intend to use it as to whether one is superior to the other. Yes, Provoke will affect 5x as many targets, but Confront forces the target to move towards you and affects the target for longer.

The lack of targets makes confront worse than even Blackwand or Nemesis Staff!

  7. What would happen if they just had one elevator, but instead of going in a linear way through each map, you'd have to check each floor for the thing you need?

I think it would be more frustrating, but what do you think?

But wait, there's more.  Chance for Beanbag on every attack.  When you land 3 Beanbags in quick succession, you entered BEANED UP state.  This increases the chance to Gadgetize on all attacks by 5%.  Whoooo Traps Arsenal Melee goooo!

Maybe a Beanbag powerset might finally evacuate the beanbag blockage from Assault Rifle?

(Another trick I've heard involves getting and using Inner Inspiration, selling the mediums to vendors, using the funds from the sales to list the larges on the market. But this trick works faster!)

Inner inspiration is amazing for early inf if you're lucky and remember to keep using it.

    Larges vary wildly in price, for example;

    • Righteous Rage might go for 100,000 just before prime time on a Sunday, but drop to 11,.000 in the mid-mornings.
    • Another popular one is Purple Shield insp (forgot the name).
    • and finally Escape (the Resist effects).
    • Large Heals I sell for 20k-23k.
    • Large Blues are usually ~10K, occasionally double or triple that.
    • Yellows are amazing, but the farmers who buy these things in bulk don't seem to agree with me 🙂 (AKA they play farms without enemies that make you blind).
    • Wakies are generally quite cheapo because nobody expects to die, Mr Bond.

  10. Newsflash!

       Talos Island Times

      21st April 2024

       CONFRONT IS OUT OF DATE

Back in teh day when the game was slow, it made sense to have a power that was used for picking one stray enemy off your ranged amigos - single target taunt was cool. Not anymore.

I think Confront should be replaced by a Self-Rez (you know it makes sense) or a short duration (or in another way weaker) version of tanker/brute Taunt (i.e. AoE). Single target taunt is not completely useless, it's just so incredibly situational as to make it an auto-skip noobtrap.

    Nobody likes Auto-Skip Noobtraps.

I don't think the line has been drawn and if your suggestion is that it is slipping ('much of the rare stuff in this game has been given/is easy to get now') I agree.

Luckily a lot of what has been done is sort optional if a player wishes to effectively self gimp.

That's not what I was saying.

I am not judging whether it is good or bad, but in this version of the game, some things were chosen as being things that could be given to the players without the previous sacrifices, but not the ones the OP is referring to, so where is that line drawn?

It's simply the choices and consequences. This concept permeates the game.

CoX is very much a high level choose-your-own-path story vehicle that allows players to endlessly tinker with their characters. It is not a first person shooter/looter.

    • Player has x amount of endurance do they choose to attack or heal = result.
    • Player chooses to chase soft capping or +rech, these usually come with a cost.

With regard to having to sacrifice something to get something else - the hard choices - the thing that I can't get over is how much of the rare stuff in this game has been given/is easy to get now. With that in mind, removing hard choices elsewhere in the game would seem, to me, to be on-brand for this particular version of the game.

I suppose what I'm wondering is where was the line drawn and why there?

  13. If I wanted to discuss this topic and didn't necro this, I'd have people moaning about dual-posting, so it's a no-win situation. So it's necro.

I wanted to post this, although it came to my attention through a post by ...er.. Trike on the 3D Generative Art thread here:

They point out that on Rebirth server, their developer SilverAgeFan worked out how to do Asymmetrical patterns some time ago:

    pdBabi8.png

I realise that the developers probably feel some kind of pressure to implement/replicate whatever is generally considered a success from the other CoH servers. I think it's a great way of working, but I also feel that kind of pressure is unfair because of the moneyless environment that all this work is taking place within.

That being said, I do wonder if progress on this for Homecoming is on the cards at all? Is it a "we'd like to do it", or "we've got better things to do"?

Personally, I don't know where I stand. I'm not sure I'd take advantage of asymmetrical patterns. I do enjoy asymmetrical accessories/tools, however.
