So, maybe I am out of my gourd. But I'm not out of Nectanabo's Gourd.

Who is Nectanabo? Is he/she/it a farmer? Do they grow gourds? I don't recall any CoT mission mentioning this Nectanabo. Is there a story arc I've missed out on?

How does the game know it's Nectanabo's Gourd, and why is it telling you? Because it wants you to travel back to 342BC and return the Gourd. For some reason.... a reason that could change HISTORY ITSELF!111

  2. I was cobbling together yet another pulp Rocketeer-a-like character and I wondered ...

I feel rather limited to guns and such. I don't feel like it's feasible to put something like Ice Control on him. Because the Ice Control animations look he's like a magician waving his arms in the air like that.

So I thought ... what if the powers came from a gun?
Then I was thinking what is a powerset? I mean... what's the determining thing?

Originally the powersets seem to have been simple elements: Fire, Ice, Earth..  then it got complicated. Now we've got a situation where each individual weapons is supposedly it's own powerset (let's not talk about bean bags and flamethrowers not being Assault Rifles here).

What constitutes a powerset? I feel like "Ice" is super-vague and puts a block on the creation of non-magician ice-oriented powersets, such as Ice Rifle.

But maybe that's not the way the developers would see an alternative to what I've described here as Magician Ice. What if they see the alternative as the same powersets but with weapons and weapon-animations instead (which was my initial desire).

    What do you think?

Besides, defeat is embarrassing if you are teaming, especially as a melee class as it does not project the proper image.

The realistic prospect of failure should be present in a story for it to be interesting.

That's why some of the CoH stories are great. They end in failure no matter what, or at the very least success at great cost.

The Modding was great for reclaiming the original 'Ah!' Taunt Sound Fx vs HUR (physically sick) Taunt.

I remember community members hunting out and finding the discarded and no longer used 'Ah.'

It's on all my Tanks and male Taunters.

I also used the Arrow sound fx.  Very Errol FLynn.

    Azrael.

It just goes to show how good sounds can completely change the feel of the game.

I would like to change the default "boingy" sounds, such as the "no" sound (you know, when you try to do something you can't) to something much more snappy.

So, uh, we lost Diamond Cut and added Mystic?

Here's what Mystic looks like for anyone wondering.

It's a beautiful and elegant design. BUT designs that can interact with other costume parts are the best ones. Does this one interact well with Over The Shoulder Mantle? Chest Details? Especially Symbols.

That's the factor that determines whether it gets a boo or yay from me.

Old-skool Defiance. Yes, it was a silly mechanic, but Blasters getting stronger as they took more damage was fun

There's nothing silly about that. It's a great idea. It should be in the game now.

i completely agree. the game on live used to have meaningful rewards for progression. everything feels a bit too auto-win thesedays

on a nostalgic note, sirens call on live used to be *amazing* before everyone had a hyper IOd out build

I concur, the feeling of progression isn't much of a thing in the new CoH - maybe it's more about "unlocking" than discovering.

Convenience is a huge part of modern games - the idea that blocks are put in the game so that achievement can allow the user to overcome them... it seems developers of all games don't like it anymore. Isn't that the point in a game? Why have snakes in Snakes and Ladders? Why not just ladders?

Part of game development is or should be creating problems/inconvenience.

For example, I want to have to travel to Icon to change my gear - it makes the world seem more alive when people are using shops, not just crowding round Ms Liberty.

Having said all of this, I do like being able to build my entire appearance at the start of the game.

    Tried everything on female characters.

Some weapons have different sheathed and unsheathed models.

Also when you select between sheathing or not, it seems like it treats weapon selections as two completely separate things. Not sure if intended.

And some sheathe placements need some work as well I think.

I have a character that looks a bit like that. I call him... Cloud Strife!

Yes! They one shotted that goon! Oh the animation is okay, too, I guess. 😉

Also if you are melee only, jousting works (queue the finishing blow, then run by the enemy quickly so you end up away from them as your power fires off). Also, on rezzing they gain hp proportionally to the number of people in range of their death end drain, so at the very least try not to clump around a low hp Super Stunner.

WTF kind of hackery is this?! Jousting?! I confess, I've been doing it for years. BUT I feel guilty for exploiting the poor 1990s pre-broadband game-engine.

They're not in the concepts for the characters, though.

I mean, for example, one of these characters is a high-school girl whose concept is derived kinda loosely from Ryouko Mitsurugi of the Real Bout High School manga.  Where's she going to get a jetpack?  She fights crime in her school uniform!  And even if someone gave her one, she wouldn't have the first idea how to use it, how to maintain it, wouldn't have a place to keep it... it's just completely not in concept for her.

Comcis and manga are full of characters who operate purely at the street level, who don't have fantastic resources any more than they have fantastic powers.  What they have is skill.  These are the characters for which Ninja Run and Athletic Run exist.

That's what walking is for! 🙂

How do those characters get around in the manga? School Bus?

  10. 23 minutes ago, Stormwalker said:

I'd really rather they didn't.  Natural characters need a way to get around, and Infiltration isn't an option for every Natural (not all people are good at sneaking around!).

I already groan every time one of my Naturals gets a mission in Independence Port (which can involve a 1.5 mile+ hike to the mission door if it's in the Northwest corner).  They don't need to be any slower.

If it's a natural character... that doesn't stop you taking the Fly power, for example, wearing a jetpack or a wrist-mounted Teleport device etc. Those gadgets don't necessarily turn you into a technology origin, or do they?

  11. Hello there 🙂

I did a search but I didn't find a thread for Pattern suggestions, so I'm hoping this becomes the thread we all use for them.

Here are some pattern suggestions for Capes ... Star Pattern 2 is specifically designed for the single shoulder cape.

    Thanks for your time.

OOPS! these might be the wrong way around, but I think you get the idea. I meant to put a big star in the middle of the cape.

Star Pattern 2, for Single Shoulder Mantle. I meant to put the stars in the middle of the cape. It might have too many stars to look good, please bear in mind I'm no artist, I'm just suggesting something LIKE what I'd like to see. The idea of what I'd like to see, not a precise, finished product.
    Star Pattern 2.jpg

Star Pattern 3. Again, the big star is meant to be in the middle of the cape.
