The problem is there are a ton of people who'll never see eps 8-10 because the first 2 were so boring. There are some of us who'll suffer through anything just because it's star wars (hell I watched all of Resistance. Triple speed, but still.) but most people ain't got time for that noise and will drop something if it doesn't pull them in early on. It's too bad the Lucas/Disney people didn't put their foot down, as the first 3 episodes could easily have been 1 (I'd have cut the childhood scenes altogether, but if not they could've easily peppered it through the rest like the Better Call Saul Omaha scenes).

I'm with you on the blades being a bad squad weapon. I was just wondering how much damage a single fighter with heavy forward shields could do as a vanguard when star destroyers are deploying their TIE squadrons. We know how little the Empire fears single fighters. Pure speculation on my part but I could see an instance of this as motivation for Thrawn's TIE defender program.

This thread got rezzed from March of 2020. I really can't say how much rare salvage is going for these days, nor how long you have to wait to buy it.

That show (from OGDW's spoiler) isn't bad (at my speeds anyway), but I'm a sucker for the yet-another-teen-angst-in-supernatural-setting genre so your ymmv may vary.

Let There Be Carnage was one of the most painful movies I've ever seen. And yeah, he didn't write the script, but still.

First ep was really unnecessary. Practically counter-productive. And slow even at the 3x speed I wound up at. Rest of it was fine at 2.5x. Interesting story fill-in if not terribly entertaining.

They're pretty good. Along with Tarkin and most of the Plagueis book they're my favorite of the new canon I've read, but I've not read a lot of it. Was audiobooking them as they came out until CoH came back and cut into my mindless puzzle game time 😀. The Thrawns are the only ones I've read since. They aren't as good as I remember the original Thrawn trilogy being but I've also not read that since I was a teen, so no idea about actual quality.

Re Brainy Smurf a lot of this is covered in the newer book trilogy.
SpoilerThere's no direct involvement between the Chiss and the Empire, it's just Thrawn and Palpatine. And the relationship is tense. The rest of the Empire folks range from begrudgingly respectful of his talent to outright hostile.

One thing i noticed in this last ep is how ridiculous the ISB's pants are for spies. Sure these are the desk spies but could you imagine trying to follow someone quietly without knocking over everything in your path with those things Dedra had on?

The intro to ep 9 was worth the price of admission.

When that Mando ep came out I very nearly reinstalled SWTOR to compare the game area to the show. fortunately the innertubes had some screenshots to save me from myself.
Also I've decided Doctor Quadpaw needs a spin-off where we learn the story of how his speculum-free gynecology practice was all the rage on Coruscant in the latter days of the Republic before the Empire's anti-alien policies forced him underground.

I thought it was ok. Was glad it wasn't their usual-of-late dad joke overload but it wasn't anything particularly stellar. Making the Man-Thing into Groot 2.0 was pretty lame.

I thought ep 5 was very good. The development in it actually feels like it has a point, unlike eps 1-3 which in retrospect seem more and more like they were glommed on to the real show because someone decided there should be an origin story.

Except from episode 4 on, it was the show they were looking for. If I weren't insane and compelled to watch everything from certain universes no matter what, I'd have tapped out early second episode. I'd also have never gotten to the good eps of Boba (i.e. the ones with Mando). There seems to be a school of streaming shows (not just Star Wars, some completely unaffiliated) where the old Aristotelian notion that the key to drama is to start slowly and build is taken as gospel. That's perfectly fine for a Greek tragedy where no one has anything better to do or for a two hour movie in the theater where the audience has already paid their money, but with a streaming series it really seems like you ought to do a little something early on to grab the audience's attention, especially since there's plenty of other stuff out there. It doesn't have to be action, just something to make the audience care about the characters and what's going on other than 'oh this is that guy from the newer movie that wasn't as horrible as eps 7-9'. The only thing particularly interesting for me from early Andor was the bit with the supervisor explaining the way the world worked to Syril.
