  1. I wanted to get my main characters back to where they were on Live and plus I was always in fear that the game would go away again so I tended to rush to 50 and that is a hard habit to break even though Homecoming is legit now. I have 66 50's and a 47 that is on the verge. While the S.T.A.R.T. vendors and the xp doublers are nice and everything, especially if you have limited time to play, I feel like there was a sense of community when things like double xp weekends were happening back on Live. Those were the weekends when you would see all your Globals lit up and it was just fun. I still have fun in the game but when it comes to leveling, it seems like it is just the same handful of things happening over and over again. I participate but it all feels kind or rote, in the end.
  2. That said, I still defend my 13-day stint as Dr. Rick Dagless in Pocket D as being vital to my mental health at the time. Speaking only in Darkplace quotes was endlessly amusing for me and probably a whole four other people. When he was finally generic'd, he came back briefly as Dagless the White and eventually I just renamed him and left it at that. He never speaks now because it is speaking that gets me in trouble.
  3. Yeah, as many have said, it has always been the Homecoming thing. It was kind of laughable when Homecoming itself was a rogue server but I did understand that while operating as such, they didn't want to attract the attention of the Disneys and the WBs of the world that might have enough money to make an issue when it seemed like NCSoft was letting things slide. I get the impulse you have. The characters you describe are iconic. Hell, the comic industry has been heavily doing pastiches of existing IP for decades. It makes sense - the artists and writers grew up loving certain characters but Batman can't have 300 writers and artists. So folks make their own versions. It's what comics have always done. Homages are your best bet - take the inspiration and put some distance between your version and the original's costume and origin. You can be a little tongue-in-cheek but you still want to infuse the character with enough that is different from the original so folks don't know exactly who you are meant to be at a glance. And it will feel more satisfying. And trust me: There will still be folks who want to yuck your homage yum. I have a character whose costumes are meant to be video game characters so I made costumes evocative of iconic video game characters and I took care to make the names and costumes distinctive from the IP. Even so, I guess a couple are still too close and I get the occasional snide comment. If I were reported, it wouldn't really matter if my homage would hold up to legal scrutiny. It most likely would. But Homecoming GMs are just going to generic on the side of caution and call it a day. You have to watch it with names as well. While names can be trademarked as book titles, a company really can't claim complete ownership of the name of an animal, place, or thing but even if your CoH Wolverine looks completely different from the comics, Homecoming's GMs are just going to generic you if someone takes the time to report it. They're volunteers and don't really have the time or bandwidth to research all the ins-and-outs and intricacies of IP. I think Marvel submitted a list of 6500 character names to Cryptic back in the day that they claimed that they "owned" while the lawsuit was happening. I've never seen the list but out of 6500 names, I'm sure the bulk were the common names of animals, places, things, etc that they assuredly did not own but the game studio wasn't about to battle them over it. Also worth mentioning that while it would be perfectly legally acceptable for DC to have a character called Wolverine as long as their version was distinct from the Marvel version and the comic title was something else, Disney would probably still throw a nuisance suit at them to protect the IP. It kind of falls to the owners to protect their IP and companies with enough money to do so vigorously. Homecoming can't take the risk.
  4. I grabbed Misnomer off of the bottom list. Will release at a later date if nothing comes of it.
  5. If Lovebird doesn't work for you, I'd love to take it off your hands!
  6. In another news, grabbed Paydirt off that long list above and am super bummed I missed out on Lovebird. I have a character that references being bummed that name wasn't available in their bio!
  7. I have released: Bonafide - this one hurts but I could never come up with a Louisiana superhero I liked enough Doctor Wax Honeymooner Hyper-X Ragwort Uptown Uptown Girl
  8. I'm glad I posted this because these are a bunch of great suggestions! Thanks all!
  9. Hey! I don't know if I am the only person that finds this stuff useful but I was reminded today of this website that gives the RBG percentages on a jillion colors, enabling easy adjustment of UI and speech bubbles. Of course, you can always just play around with it and find what you like but I like this as a starting point. Plus, you can screenshot your character and sample the color scheme in something like photoshop and get the hexadecimal color code, which you can put right into the search bar and get those RBG percentages without having to eyeball it. I have found these values doing web searches too but this makes it pretty one stop, generally. I hope someone else finds it useful. https://encycolorpedia.com/
  10. As is typical, I am away from my home computer when these come up and am unable to check for myself. However, given that the Superman family is such a trope, most things like Megagirl, Ultragirl, Superbgirl, and all the various derivations are going to be long taken. you might think of the virtues that Supergirl represents and see if you can come up with some names that play on those. Or if worse comes to worse, try the Mary Marvel route and pair a proper female name with a virtue. Sue Superb, Mega Meg, etc.
  11. I hadn’t done any real photoshopping in years but had to make some rushed documents for a RP trial and it kind of got me interested again. I also did a ‘Black Crey (Credit) Card’ for a friend. Working on a couple other things and trying to get my skills back up but I have plans to try a Hero ID. If I do one to my satisfaction, I will definitely make the template public.
  12. As always, I'm at work and can't check these but I asked ChatGPT to generate two lists and avoid common names that are likely already taken. No matter how common a name is though, I always double-check because sometimes I have been shocked and amazed. While none of these are knocking me out - and the coolest one are also likely taken - they may make your mind pot boil over with new ideas. That they get me thinking is always the main use of lists like this even if the content is so so. Superheroes: Shadow Pounce Whisker Whisperer Feline Guardian Meowstermind Tabby Titan Clawed Crusader Purrfect Storm Cheetah Cyclone Nightclaw Whiskerblade Lynx Luminary Puma Paladin Panthera Paragon Serval Sentinel Mewling Mirage Catnap Champion Prowl Protector Feral Feline Sphynx Seraph Cheetah Siren Leopard Lancer Tigress Tempest Abyssinian Avenger Tomcat Thunder Mouser Mariner Serengeti Savior Lynx Lightning Cattery Captain Pounce Patriot Whisker Warlock Puma Paradox Tabbystrophe Siamese Sentinel Calico Champion Jaguar Juggernaut Ocelot Oracle Persian Paladin Ragdoll Renegade Maine Coon Maestro Munchkin Miracle Meowmancer Singapura Sorcerer Abyssal Aegis Sphynx Sorceress Bobcat Blademaster Whisker Wizard Ragamuffin Regent Bengal Beacon Tigris Tamer Purrlock Holmes Supervillains: Catterwall Feline Fiend Nightshade Prowler Whisker Wraith Tabby Terror Clawmancer Cat-astrophe Cheetah Chaos Shadowclaw Abyssal Assassin Lynx Lurker Puma Plague Panthera Plunderer Serval Scourge Mewling Menace Tomcat Tyrant Sphynx Specter Cheetah Czar Leopard Lasher Tigress Thane Abyssinian Abomination Mouser Malice Lynx Lycanthrope Prowl Puppeteer Feral Felon Serengeti Sadist Cat's Cradle Cattery Coven Pounce Predator Whisker Warlord Puma Paralyzer Siamese Sorcerer Calico Crusher Jaguar Jinx Ocelot Overlord Persian Plaguebearer Ragdoll Ruler Maine Coon Menace Munchkin Malefactor Meowmageddon Singapura Sorceress Abyssal Atrocity Sphynx Siren Bobcat Blackguard Whisker Witch Ragamuffin Ravager Bengal Banshee Tigris Trickster Purrveyor of Darkness
  13. Yeah but I was wondering if anyone took this and used it as inspiration to make something that looked like an actual ID card. Sometimes in the ‘D people will IC “hand” you things and send an image link to something they created so someone having done that with a Hero ID seemed possible if not probable. However, if I need to whip one up myself this asset will be nice to have so thank you!
  14. Has anyone out there every created or found a photoshop template for the Paragon Hero ID? I need some documents for an RP session and my time and ability to create such things from scratch is a bit limited. And it seems like something some creative soul may have done before.
  15. If you mod the game, is it just not possible that a mod you have installed may be allowing you to see things that those of us who play vanilla unmodded Homecoming are not seeing? That seems more likely than they just slipped in nudity one day on a whim. I am not saying you don’t know what your doing, just suggesting that something may be having unintended consequences. I still don’t know your definition of what constitutes nudity is so I’m just spitballing. I make costumes pretty regularly and while I don’t go through every option or combo every time, I am pretty confident there is no “nudity” in the vanilla unmodded game.
  16. I’d be curious about some specifics because I doubt there is any option for “nudity” in costume customization. There has always been the option (going back to Live) to try to match skin tone with similar color to create the appearance of nudity but it essentially makes the character a Barbie doll. There is no anatomy that denotes nudity. if you mean some of the skimpiest costume options, they also go back to Live though I do think the thong was a Homecoming addition. Another possibility is that someone in your household added a mod to your computer that created client-side options that only you could see. I’ve heard tell that they are out there and I assume that if someone uses a mod to create a nude character then other folks with that same mod may also have the option but I don’t mod the game so I have no idea how it works.
  17. I’m at work and can’t check availability at the moment but are you looking for a proper name that sounds like it could be for a Valkyrie (like Elida Elfsbane for example) or a superheroic name that could belong to a Valkyrie (like Frostbreaker)? Let me know which and I can do some hunting after work?
  18. Caption: Duke Dreadsome enjoys an Orange Fanta in Pocket D after being informed that the "distilled essence of original sin" was unavailable as an ingredient. A Dread Minion looks on. "Ah, my dearest fairest lady, prepare to be ensnared in the dark tapestry of my lineage, where shadows loom like specters of dread and laughter emerges from the very depths of despair. Picture my mother, if you will: Genevieve von Nachtstein, a haunting beauty cursed with both a hoof and the laziest of eyes. Nevertheless, she was a commoner with an otherworldly allure, her presence cast an eerie spell upon all who dared to gaze upon her twisted grace and my father was soon enough ensnared. So then, behold my father: Dimitri Konrad Dreadsome, an albino petty noble, twisted and pale like a specter from the abyss. His macabre pursuits, squandering our family fortune on erotic puppet shows and penning verses of nightmarish poetry, lent an air of derangement to my very conception as he wooed my mother with his filth. Even as I quickened in mother's chilly womb, they were together weaving a legacy of despair and peculiarity; one that would instill within me the seeds of malevolence that now bear bitter fruit. Oh, how they danced in the moonlit madness of their existence, like tragic figures in an absurd play. I tried to understand them. As a boy, I would approach my father's study while he was at it, and find him in such a state that it embarrasses me still, even though he has long since met his maker. I would clutch to my breast my only toy and only friend - a bit of moldy bread crust - and ask in my small voice, "Where are their clothes, Papa? WHY DO THE PUPPETS NOT HAVE CLOTHES!?" Father, stripped to the waist and sweating like a laborer, would only laugh maniacally. These bits of absurdity fueled me and as I, Duke Dreadsome, stand upon the precipice of world domination, I am but a twisted reflection of my tragic ancestry. The shadows of my family's bizarre past haunt my every step, and I embrace them with a sinister glee, for they are the very foundation of my grim existence. Fear not the darkness that consumes my soul, for it is the essence of my being, lurking like a malevolent specter within my heart. I revel in the sinister theatrics, the dark comedy that plays out upon the stage of Dreadovia. Now, let us descend deeper into the abyss of Dreadovia's secrets, where shadows writhe like serpents of darkness and the laughter echoes with a chilling mirth. Speak, and I, Duke Dreadsome, shall respond with a flair for the macabre, unfolding the tale of our bleak existence with darkly funny elegance. Onward, to the malevolence that lies in wait, lurking just beneath the surface!"
  19. Annnnnd...that was it. I am so dumb. Thanks, @Vanden! Issue is resolved!
  20. For Villains and Rogues, it says the badge is Crey Employee. For Heroes and Vigilantes, it says Crey Test Subject. Maybe I need to change my alignment to get it to award? And then change back.
  21. It seems like this badge may be bugged. I've had a vigilante character logged out in the building for the required amount of time. The progress bar under Badges > Closest to Completion seems to be filled, it doesn't give the percent breakdown on mouseover, but I have no badge nor benefit as yet. The character is meant to be a literal Crey test subject so the badge would be great, if only it would award!
  22. I am semi-regularly on a Hami with someone who said they were putting me on ignore because I gave them a Duplicating Gift. Literally, I gave it to just a random person walking by and they sent me a tell saying, "Welcome to ignore. I didn't want that badge on this character." For the uninitiated, you get 'Gift Getter" if someone gives you the Duplicating Gift. The whole point of the temp power is to pass it around so merely logging into the Winter Event makes the chance of getting one pretty high. I know because I one-starred them with a brief note and have seen them on Hami's now and then. I just figured if they can be that touchy and unrealistic in their expectations, I'd like to give them a wide-berth even if they don't have me on ignore. I'm sure they would be a little ticked being excluded from a Hami raid just because there was a negative experience with one-person out of a potential 48. I know I would. Some message noting the status would be welcome. There are definitely experiences that have been negative enough where if I got this pop-up after joining a team and checked my note, I may well bow out. But really, the only one you really "have" to hear from is the leader and if they have you on ignore, you won't even know they were recruiting.
  23. I have almost 500 million on one character. Add that with the 100 or so other alts, I have 500 million and 42!
  24. Has anyone built a good repair garage? Any pointers? I'm no base builder but I RP'd my way into needing to come up with one post haste. It is supposed to be in King's Row, I envision a small-ish 3 repair bay set-up in a walled in courtyard with some modest living quarters above. Supposed to belong to like a 20-something technopathic former criminal, now trying to go straight in the big city. If anyone has done something like this, would love a look/tour! I'm all thumbs at base building and lack the patience to do the truly grand things that some of you do but I would like to get into it enough to at least construct small lairs, headquarters, apartments, etc. for my street level heroes and villains.
