  1. I watch him from time to time, and he's mentioned liking City of Heroes at least a couple other times in the past too,. I was just suprised to see him mention it in this video complete with talking about private servers.
  2. While I'll admit I've been lurking other servers on my Steam Deck these last few months, everything has been generally great. It takes a bit of keybinding setup ( and in steam options binding for stuff like the back tab buttons) to really get things rolling and I'd suggest toons that don't need some sort of click area aoe to get going ( unless you want to set up a general aoe macro for it) Large events will still bring it down to it's knees at points ( holiday events and Rikti Raids come to mind) but it's still well running enough that it hasn't been an issue vs my PC. I still prefer the dock with keyboard and mouse but if you're nuts you shouldn't have any issue getting a toon rolling ( have Energy/Regen Brute on other lands which has played fine enough on just buttons and analog control) Masterminds likely take the most work to get functional on a controller, but I think it can be done. Considering that controls is the uphill battle here, I'd consider the way it runs a success. TLDR: Game runs fine once you get the proper set up paths, Melee plays best ( IMO) Ranged 2nd, and MMs need the most work though I wouldn't play a MM without prep anyway unless I wanted chaos. When Docked, no different from PC other than the slowdown for holiday events and Rikti Raids. ( You may want to change some bindings via the steam deck controller interface first vs just trying to bind " raw" buttons).
  3. Yeah the gamepad stuff once enabled was working no problem. It'll take some control set up to get it to play the way I'd want but it's 100% playable especially since the steam deck itself can let you use the buttons as keybinds, on top of the fact that if I had a dock or usb splitter that would let me use a KB+mouse on it anyway. It was easier to get running (without windows) than I thought it was going to be despite my lack of Linux knowledge, and once going, ran at a fairly respectable level vs my laptop, ultra mode with shadows being the only real fps killer being 28-40ish fps vs just recommended settings hitting 60 sitting by people in AP. I'd expect a Rikti raid to be framey but then again it's not a easy thing to run well, even on modern systems. I grow more impressed by this device by the day.
  4. Just had the same issue, hover your mouse on the icon on the bar, then right click the window that pops up. From there click maximize. fixed my problem with it.
  5. Just got my Steam Deck a few days ago, gonna try to give n0qtrnL's steps with proton a go soon, though I'll admit to not being Linux proficient, so it'll likely take me some work. EDIT IN PROGRESS: Added the launcher as a nonsteam game in desktop mode, ( not sure if needed or not) used the experimental mode for proton. Launched so far, just waiting to see if I can * run* the game past the install, or if I'll need to run the executable for CoH separate to this past the launcher once updated. Currently installing 8% currently. EDIT: It's alive! Needs control tweaking or me plugging in a KB+mouse at some point. All good so far, though upon 2nd launch it looks like I'll need to find where it installed the launcher then add *that* to steam, otherwise it'll just try to install everything again Upon exiting it looks like. EDIT 3! : Off to bed for now. Linux file setups are funky especially when using compatibility stuff. Still looking for the *thing* to launch in order to avoid a re-install every time I boot the launcher natively. Please again note- I'm not familiar with Linux and it could be something very simple I'm over looking here. EDIT 4!: found the correct launcher to add to steam so it doesn't reinstall the game again via /home/deck/. local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/3748631877/pfx/drive_c/Games/Homecoming/bin/win64/ I have a feeling the numbered section may vary on the user, but I'm hoping what I have here can help others. I am launching this all with the steamOS half of things after adding the launcher in desktop mode. also using Proton Experimental. again, new to the whole linux thing so I apologize if I'm being vague at all.
  6. As others said, it's mostly for Scorpion Shield for me, though Shatter armor was part of my Bane SoA for a while. I just got a bit miffed that the animation comes out a bit bugged if you run it back to back with Bane's Shatter, often resulting in pulling out a invisible mace after using my main mace. I do use the mass immobilize Web Grenade on my Merc/TA Mastermind with the stun proc but I don't feel it's super mentionable as anything special as the stuns don't happen that much or last long. ( still a nice power in a mess of controls (in a good way) those two sets have)
  7. Trick Arrow! I'll admit that the way I play it is chaotic and even a bit self centered as a lot of it is me running in Rambo (which kinda makes it bad for some more coordinated efforts) and just replacing pets when they flop. A lot of what you and the pets bring is control ( which is kinda ironic for how much they make stuff fly about with their knockback but that's what makes it magic) It's not a secondary I'd recommend with out some prefunding for procs though someone out there probably plays it just fine without it. This is my altered build for it based off another's build ( I'd give them credit but it's been too long for my memory) where I went with entangling arrow vs flash arrow. Flash is likely better with it's -tohit but entangling is nice for it's -resist. TLDR: Trick Arrow! Procs for damage/Nice amount of control via Trick arrow and pets. Substitute Entangling arrow with Flash Arrow if you want to be a more responsible adult. Nice for a more active playstyle. longbowrejects.mxd
  8. I didn't give up on it ( actually have two 50'd scrappers and a 47 brute with it) but, Radiation armor. I love the set. I really do. But some days it's just too much. You're either an overdose of one to two colors, or you embrace the light show of all the colors. I'm sure I've blinded several team mates with Meltdown's nuclear explosion.
  9. So, I wouldn't call this bad, cause I actually tend to have a good time playing it, but Mercs Trick Arrow MM. It's best played chaotically in my opinion which is usually a very bad thing to do on a Mastermind. If the pets die? They die. Whip the phone back out and call in more. With Procs shoved into arrows you'll likely be the major damage source of your little army. This isn't my build, though I did make modifications to it. The old one is probably better but I saved over my copy of it. ( I wanna say the old one had flash arrow in place of burst. Which is probably smarter but I had a theme I wanted to roll with that needed an assault rifle) I really wanna credit the original build maker but unfortunely I can't find their post. I REALLY had a good time leveling this toon. I think playing this without the damage procs could be a challenge however. EDIT!- Two other warnings 1. The pets like to knock stuff out of your debuff patches. embrace the chaos 2. EMP arrow is just a bad Faraday cage at the moment. Well, not bad, but it doesn't actually do anything to enemies and with the long cooldown on it you won't be able to move the EMP point conveniently. Still, can have uses vs AVs. 10. I'm Darktech global in-game. Same boat here as Xeph, just wanted to do this to try something new. I got the Staff/Ice scrapper to 25 too but figured I wouldn't keep expanding my post a bunch more with screenshots. I even kinda like it, despite my earlier complaints about it. I'll get to the sentinel at some point too. I'm definitely keeping this whole post bookmarked just to keep the slot machine rules for the times I don't know what to play for sure. Much thanks for putting this all together! I enjoy a lot of these challenges the forums put together.
  11. First roll set was a 32, 17, and 27, which meant a Corruptor with Beam and Force Field. Already have that one too sitting in the mid 30s! ( Not gonna count this roll, that's just cheating) Matter Mercury Wanted to have a TechnoMayan look for them and I like it. Second. Decided to roll 3 more sets just to avoid getting something I might have already made 71,88,45 Which is a Staff/Ice Scrapper. I like both sets, just not together on a scrapper. the lack of a taunt aura screams runners everywhere and the slow from the cold isn't enough to fix that. Third. 37,41,3 Nature Archery Defender. Again, sets I like, just not on this AT. EDIT! Hit 25 on this....and I'm done with it. Trying to heal with Regrowth and getting flower patches where people stand is like herding cats. Much preferred on a Mastermind. Didn't mind Archery though despite reading some calling it low damage. Explosive arrow with a Force Feedback and the KB converted is pretty nice for speeding up a chunk of the longer charging powers (Wild growth and Bastion comes to mind) especially at the lower levels where one won't be IO'd to the teeth. Might end up nabbing the costume for another toon, I kinda like the spider lady with a bow concept. Reroll as Archery/ Plant Blaster? Maybe. And last! 76,86,26 A Sonic Energy Sentinel. Doesn't sound like a bad matchup, just not too big of a fan of Sentinels. I feel like I'm just complaining about my rolls, but I AM going to bang my head on the wall for this one, I swear. ( I'll make a Merc MM one of these days!) I rolled once more 1-3 (throwing out the character I had already) and got a 2 which is the Nature Archery Fender. I do feel like I got some rolls that should work together fairly well for a coordinated look. I'll probably make the Sentinel too, but I am going to focus on the Defender until it hits 30+. Who knows, I might end up liking it.
  12. As someone who tends to be a bit slow on the typing side, I'll typically just run Task/Strike Forces on the odd occasion if I lead anything. I tend to get a bit of anxiety at times as well, feeling like as the leader that I need to BE the frontline which again, as a slow typist, can collide with each other. (Which also runs into anxiety of "Am I tanky enough to lead into fights?" I usually get a baseline of IOs for each new toon (Steadfast/Glad/Miracle/Numina/etc) but don't usually bling it out till 30+or "Why did I run this particular brute without Taunt and why did karma make it a team of all Blasters with me cause I run mindless content and don't worry about what ATs people run?") I could keep listing my anxieties for a good bit here (and it's not all about tanking either, I'm just remembering a 6 blaster 1 Fender + me on a tauntless Titan Weapons Dark armor Brute I was in yesterday. Kills me inside when I see anyone flop, even mega aggressive Blasters, even when I'm not the leader or tank) but I think people get the point. At least with a TF/SF I don't need to fill slots between missions either which does help with the typing situation.
  13. Looks like I'm gonna be learning pop menus. I have an email with my macros already but this is looking even better. Wish I knew this sooner!
  14. There certainly is some funkyness with Overwhelming going on but if you can, I'd give Sudden Acceleration's anti KB a go. On my PB build I was experimenting with for maximizing Force Feedback procs with KB conversion I've seen both mids and in game showing Dawn Strike (PB's Nuke) as having 30KB in Mids and 18KB in game but I can say I haven't seen it actually knock anything back. Only case I still had KB even with the conversion from Sudden Acceleration is Photon Seekers, which is believed to come from when they stack on each other all at once on a single target. I've also heard theories that Overwhelming is only a chance to convert the KB to KD but I can't say how true that is.
  15. Really gotta say, I've been a pretty big fan of the new Beam sounds and I'm gonna give the new Psionic blast + Kinetic melee packs a go this weekend. Thank you SO much for making these.
  16. I second this build, as I have a Fire/Earth over on Excelsior. Lots of fun and pretty nice for locking down hard targets while keep everything else flopping. Only real complaint about it is the visual spam (Bonfire/Sleet/General Fire effects) even when you tone down the colors. Also can cause framerate issues with some people. Nitpicks aside, it really is one of my favorite toons lately.
  17. I'd probably thrown an Umlat in his name but I've got BrootalDark over on Excelsior. I need to get back to leveling em to 50 too since he's in the early 40s. No particular references but I do kinda think he looks a bit like Lemmy Kilmister given the beard and hairdo.
  18. I know they get run to death but I love the DFB dialog. Positron does air on the side of being generic/ boring but I feel running it once blue before red really makes you appreciate all of Arbiter Sand's dialog on the red DFB. (As a side note, I love that Paragonwiki has the dialogue for a lotta of stuff) Positron's assistance There are reports of psychic disturbances below. No doubt it's the Lost. Be extra careful, many heroes have gone after the Lost only to never be heard from again. Arbiter Sands' assistance This report says the Lost have some sort of shanty town down below. Although, the operative spelled 'shanty' wrong. Sigh... do you see how hard it is trying to be an Arbiter when someone can't even spell shanty?
  19. I was reading someone say something about Dark/Dark/Dark fenders being able to keep him from jumping but I'm not entirely sure how it is supposed to work. I imagine if Fenders could do it others may be able to as well. Still, this could just be a bug you ran into or just incredibly lucky rng.
  20. Of the two builds I feel like Kamikaze would be more fun and lethal to enemies. Archery doesn't need a *ton* of recharge to make it a nukapalooza with Rain of Arrows, and Bonfire doesn't need much to get results out of it for enemy control. You could take out the KB to KD proc for an area denial power in Bonfire although this can drive teammates mad if used improperly ( still can be maddening to some if used before enemies get herded even with the KB to KD proc but, that's a whole different discussion). I'll also admit I'm not a big fan of the melee powers( they're not up to par with some of the other secondary melee powers for blasters in my opinion) but they feel like a necessary evil to get S/L defense. Fist of Arrows feels like a leveling power, one you take to get multitarget hits until you have more recharge or more powers to take it's place. Just doesn't hit hard enough and doesn't bring proc power to play in the way Ripper and Explosive Arrow would. Last thing I can think of is about Ripper and Explosive arrow. I'd personally take the hit to the base global recharge that the purple in EA and drop it for the Force Feedback proc and leave the KB/KD in it as well, just be sure to fit in 4 pieces of another set of your choosing as the net recharge gain you'd get from a FF proc could be better than the flat 10% recharge. Ripper on the other had, I'd drop the FF proc if you're not planning on being in melee much ( kinda how I'd play it personally). Ripper really got the short end of the stick when you consider other Blaster Melee AoE/Cones damage but still has some potential in a FF (force feedback) recharge proc. Something about your build that looked a bit off to me was the lack of Blazing Arrow which would be pretty important in a single target attack chain, and the slotting of Wild Fortress. WF is Plant's Blaster sustain and would have a 100% uptime with a nice chunk of absorb to keep you alive, as well as a recovery bonus to get your end flow going. I'd be sure to slot for health and recovery for sure in WF. 2 slots in hasten with +5 boosted recharge IOs is nearly the same as your 3 in hasten being only 0.1 seconds of difference. You can change IOs in mids to boosted versions by mousing the one you want when selecting Ios for particular slots, then pressing + in your numpad. Mace Beam Volley does less damage at twice the cast length of Fist of Arrows with a chunk of KB to it so I'm a little iffy about that. (would likely be a nice pick for procs though with the base recharge before enhancement and global is 32 seconds making procs more likely to happen) I do think the Spiderlings are good pick. They get a little annoying with the constant teleporting sounds but I find the summon range on them is far enough that you can summon them into a mob and have them eat alpha attacks without exposing yourself to them. And the last thing would be your slotting in Scorpion. You'd be better off throwing the globals (Shield wall/Karma/Reactive) into invisibility since there isn't much defense to be gleemed out of enhancement there, whereas Scorpion is underslotted to defense and end reduction. You could leave the Luck of the Gambler there as you'll want to spread those globals to get more recharge (max of 5 but you likely know that already) but make sure you've got at least some parts of sets enhancing Defense and End reduction there.
  21. This one uses Scorpion Shield to hit 45% S/L and if you felt like you needed it, could swap some stuff for Thunderstike and get E to 45% but I didn't feel like that was necessary. Chunk of more Recharge to be had. Hero Plan by Mids' Reborn : Hero Designer 2.6.0.7 https://github.com/ImaginaryDevelopment/imaginary-hero-designer Click this DataLink to open the build! 22. So a bit of this is me experimenting with new build concepts (procs/blaster mindset?) I've been working out, so bear with me. I've got a "Kamikaze" build that doesn't go entirely for softcap, rather reaching for the 32% S/L using Fire armor for better resists. One small purple insp would be enough to softcap in bad situations. Using Rune of Protection is also a newer thing to me, but I'd use it as antimez alternated with clarion (antimez) or barrier (strong resist/defense bump). And for then you do die? Rise of the Phoenix which is nuke-lite in it's own right. I've got a bit to say so I'll be doing at least two more posts here, (one more build, one on why I did what I did) so bear with me. 23. I've been working on Battle Axe build with Fire Armor with the FF procs in Swoop, Whirling, Cleave, and Pendulum. Still very much in concept stages so I can't say how well it's gonna work.(If at all 🙄) Still deciding Scrapper or Brute on it as well, Scrapper being aimed towards less downtime on Fiery Embrace, Brute on Rune of Protection with less global recharge but Psi resists for good measure. Thoughts about taking energy torrent in these two in the epic pool since I've heard it's rather good at proccing FF. I have a Human PB that is complete though, and that uses a large amount of FF in it's attacks. It's usually been enough to keep Hasten perma or close to with only 60% global. But they have a lot more attacks with over 15 second base recharge which certainly helps with proc chance. Fun character too mess around in even if the damage is a little lacking compared to what I typically like. Keeps everything flopping in place.
  24. So I had a situation in a Synapse TF where I was a Stalker and was basically trying to fulfill the role of stealth to the end. Started recalling our Brutes 1st stating that was the plan( since they were our tanks). A corrupter who followed me to the end ( very nearly dying on the way anyway due their total lack of any stealth) uses their full team TP (without warning of such) after I had half the team to us anyway, which then TPs one of the Brutes into a nearby mob. Corruptor begins to accuse me of trying to tp everyone to their deaths ( which wasn't at all the case, one Brute stating "The first TP was fine, the 2nd is what grabbed us aggro). Get to the last mission, they send a tell saying " I have TP" after I had found the King and was about to start the recall process. I decide then to grab them first. They switch to local so the others never see the message, saying that I should have started at the top of the list, which was a Blaster. Am I crazy in getting the Tanks first? I'd usually think one would want Tanks,Support, DPS in that order. I mean I'll admit my character wasn't great since I was a Energy Melee/Bio ( Bio is great btw, just not EM) so this was my "one thing" I was gonna try to bring to the table in this run. I had no intention of messing it up in any way.
  25. So. This will be expensive.Aimed at PVE. I have little to no experience with Corruptors, let alone ranged ATs so expect funkyness (I don't like cones, they seem to be paired a lot with slow cast time but not always). You won't want to lose incarnate powers either.Certainly a "50" build in my opinion. I wouldn't normally slot Hecatomb into Punch, and I feel "eh" on Frostwork in general. But Cold seems to only become more powerful with more recharge you can fit in. My goal was to perma heatloss's endurance buff as far as the amount of recharge I was aiming for. Being that Ice Blast can eat a lot of end with fast casts, having heatloss up is critical. S/L/E Defense is just a hair below normal softcap at 42-43% so you may need to eat purples for incarnate content being that the softcap there is usually considered around 50-51%. I kept the team armors as even when your teammates can softcap themselves, being able to add more can protect them against defense cascade failure even if it isn't much. Imperious Task Forces have a lot of defense debuffs for example. Other than the Alpha slot, the other incarnate slots would be up to the user Part of me would want to steal slots off Arctic fog and fit the Annihilation res debuff proc in somewhere, as well as an Achilles's Heel res debuff. I feel like the defense enhancements there are too close on toeing the line on being needed or not, the resists feel high enough to be worthy of enhancement but I still feel weird about it. EDIT: Last minute changes, no more Frostwork. Moved Preventative Medicine to health, picked up Maneuvers in FWs place. Hits 43-48% S/L/E hoping that heatloss can carry the end costs. Dropped Thunderstrike for Decimation in Icebolt. This will be the last edit, just because I'm sure there's more optimizations to be had and I don't want to endlessly post and repost. EDIT 2: I lied. Fit some procs in like I wanted to. I'll admit it was a bit willy nilly as I'm not clear on the proc math, but I feel pretty good about it. All these concerns aside, I feel pretty happy with it as it is. I may give it a spin on the test server just to see how it actually performs before I commit to leveling on live. Certainly feeling better about it than my Ninja/Cold MM I had leveled before. Villain Plan by Mids' Villain Designer 1.962 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build!
