  1. Thanks @SeraphimKensai! No rush of course. I appreciate your help.
  2. All excellent tips thanks again @Uun!
  3. Thanks again @SeraphimKensai and @Uun. I've made a lot of changes and come up with this new build. There are some things I did to get a few more bits of defense that I didn't want to do: like the slotting in Poison Trap with obliteration when I really wanted to put in damage procs. Even with all that, my totals are around 30% melee and ranged def. I've been working at it like a puzzle for ages and can't figure out how someone gets closer to 40% in those. My guess is that the build I've attached will perform a lot better than my original build, and there are a number of enhancements I never would have found without your advice. If you have an opinion on my changed build - or if I forgot something that might be useful, please let me know. I didn't know what to do with the last few powers so I grabbed quality of life things and was able to squeeze in a few useful enhancements into elixir of life and power sink. I went with Mu in the end.
  4. Thanks both - I've learned a lot from you guys already. I appreciate it.
  5. Thanks for the advice. It's safe to say that I don't know what I'm doing most of the time when building so I have a lot to learn. I'll poke around some existing poison builds and see how I can get my melee and ranged defences up that high. I've never managed to have a toon break 30% on those.
  6. Thanks the the advice. I'll definitely stick with the character and see how I go. Any comments on the details of my build? I went for teleport to get fold space, which means I avoided acrobatics - which makes me a bit nervous while levelling as I rely on it with a lot of characters.
  7. I have this build and it looks OK. I am concerned, though (generally) about a few things. One is that this poison guide suggests that /poison corruptors don't work. Does anyone have an opinion on that? Also, my build lacks a self heal and also lacks hold/mez/sleep prevention so I worry about having to wade into groups to make my pbaoe stuff effective. The good news that in the low levels I'm enjoying playing this character. It's my first corruptor. I have a lot of experience with defenders (including a poison/sonic, which kicks ass btw), but corruptor feels different and this build has some holes. Any advice is appreciated.
  8. I lose connection to mapserver far more often than most people - as in every mission once or twice. It usually happens in missions, but could happen anywhere. Has anyone resolved a similar issue? I really don't know what the problem is. I live in the UK and play on the EU server.
  9. I have a traps/beam defender and I enjoy it. The difference in my build is that rather than going with Fighting I chose Medicine. I thought it would be better as a defender... Time Bomb is indeed useless - don't bother with it. traps is more fun either solo or in pvp (using teleport to get people onto a pile of trip mines). This is also useful in pve... teleport a boss onto your traps from afar to make pulls easier. Really, traps excels in situations where you don't move around a lot - so pulling around corners in farms, or staying in the same room with a lot of respawns, etc. The problem is that at high level people are really mobile, and clearing mobs quickly. You'll need a lot of recharge to plant your traps often enough to matter. The force field is surprisingly good on defender for traps - and seeker drones really can make enemies useless. Don't give up on this if you love the set. It's a challenging set to play, and positioning is important, but you can lock down an over-pull of many groups using traps, and really save the day.
  10. Thanks - seems as though the regen elements are still up to date. I'm interested in trying Regen across a few primaries.
  11. I'm starting a regen scrapper and wanted to ask the community - does this guide still hold up? Going to follow it if so.
  12. Thanks! While yes the defense is not as good as a real melee character, it is pretty durable at higher levels. I particularly like how drk does the -to hit and gives a nice heal. These really help. I thought of archery for mine too but feared I would be lost without life drain. I rely on it pretty heavily.
  13. Well when I say massive radius of burst of speed, I really mean massive for me. I mean - it just seemed unusually large. Lots of mobs that seem kind of far from the centre of where I appear in the teleport seem to take damage. Since I don't know how to find the actual measurement of the radius this is pretty subjective - and compared to other powers could be normal.
  14. I wanted to experiment with the idea of a blaster that is just a martial artist. So, yes, it's a blapper, but a particularly interesting one in my opinion. The basic idea is that you take everything from Martial Combat, then add everything from Fighting (which makes Cross Punch powerful), and then use Leviathan Mastery as your epic to get Knockout Blow. This toon is reasonably tough, and delivers very solid single target DPS. It's most useful against elite bosses and higher. It's not the kind of blaster that disintegrates groups of minions and the like. So, if you're in a standard party and there's a tank and some good AoE DPS you'll probably just get a hit on the boss to kill it - similar to a stalker or scrapper, and that's your only contribution. That being said, this toon is extremely fun in strike force, task force and solo. There's good ranged defense, as well as S/L and a few extras. You'll be in melee range against your foe, and their friends will be trying hit you with ranged - hence the need for ranged defense. If your enemy is not immune to knock down, you'll win easily - because this build has stupid levels of knock down and knock up. You'll just juggle folks. If they are immune, then you can still burn them down and have a good chance of surviving with the to hit debuffs, self-heal, etc. The build only takes 3 powers from the primary set- dark blast. Gloom Aim Life Drain Gloom is your hadouken of darkness, but you won't be using it for damage. You'll use it for to hit debuff. I did a 6 slot on this with cloud senses, which gives great ranged defense. In the end, this gives 7.5% to hit debuff, which is significant imo for this build. Also a chance for negative energy damage with the IOs. Aim - speaks for itself. Gaussian's gives you a chance for build up. Life Drain - 6 slot with theft of essence. This makes the power recharge nicely, gives a great heal, and with the IOs gives ranged defense, AoE defense and a bunch of other happy things. Now for the Martial Combat. Take everything. I'll go through them all now. Ki Push - this is to own elite bosses while solo. If they don't have immunity to knockback this just wins. Only 1 slot with an IO accuracy. Storm Kick - in the rotation, knocks down and reliable. 6 slot with Mako's Bite Reach for the Limit - a great power that periodically gives you accuracy and damage on your attacks. No slots needed as it's auto. Burst of Speed - teleports you and does AoE damage. This is a great power for a few reasons. The AoE is a massive area but moderate damage. I slot with the Blaster AT enhancements. Dragon's Tail - more knock down and hits in a small PBAoE. 6 slot. Lots of options here. Armageddon if you're rich. I did Scirocco's Dirvish because it's got some psionic defense, AoE defense and accuracy. This build needs the AoE defense. Reaction Time - your sustain. It gives you period damage shield, but also gives you some endurance. I put in 6 IOs: 3 heal and 3 endurance mod. Works great. Inner will - frees you from CC and heals you slightly. 3 slot with recharge IOs. Throw Sand - I use it as an Oh Shit power. Reduces enemy perception so they stop attacking you. 3 slot with accuracy IOs. Eagle's Claw - in your rotation for single target, 6 slot with Mako's Bite Leviathan Mastery: Bile Spray - moderate damage toxic cone. Fits the theme as a spitting and sand-tossing dirty fighter. I do like it, but I only 3 slot it with IOs - 2 accuracy 1 damage. I might change that. Knockout Blow - in the rotation and my reason for taking leviathan. extreme single target damage and a hold. It's just such a great power. 6 slot mako's bite. Shark Skin - very nice defensive power for S/L and Cold. I 6 slot with unbreakable guard Fighting: I took everything from fighting for the main reason that getting both Boxing and Kick give passive bonuses to Cross Punch. Those bonuses make it a viable part of your rotation. I then 6 slot cross punch with Mako's bite. Tough and Weave are in lots of builds so I won't bother explaining the slotting. Leaping: Combat Jumping - only slot with endurance reduction - not a big deal Super jump - yeah jump. Acrobatics - important for this build but you don't even need to slot it. Just always run it. one slot with endurance reduction. Speed: Hasten - why not? 3 slot with recharge IOs. Main Rotation: Gloom Knockout Blow Eagle's Claw Cross Punch Life Drain Storm Kick If you aren't slowed, and you're hastened, you usually knockout blow again after life drain. It's a fast rotation. If I have a massive group of mobs I'll start with burst of speed instead of Gloom.
  15. Thanks for the tips. I'll reconsider throw sand. I had it but respecced out of it because I didn't think it was doing enough - maybe I judged too soon. I'm only lvl 43 at the moment but so far nothing is standing in my way. I can't solo any AVs of course, but I can solo elite bosses just fine. My single target damage is higher than people expect it to be. Of course I often wonder if this was just a silly idea, and if I should have just gone with a typical melee AT to be a martial artist, but I like being unusual and trying to make it work. I thought it might be a gamble, but if I focus on defence with my endgame progression I'm hoping to be able to make some people take a look at this strange build someday.
  16. I'm trying at dark/martial combat blaster and want to do mainly melee - i.e. a blapper. I'm looking to try and stay alive, and have gotten some great tips from this thread so far. I'm wondering if anyone has specific tips for my power sets... The powers I've taken from dark are few... Gloom (forced basically) Aim Life Drain I took everything from martial combat except throw sand. The build is meant to just be a martial artist... so I use cross punch and knockout blow (leviathan mastery) along with the attacks from /martial. Any further tips?
  17. While people are saying it start at level 10 - the toon I'm on is level 30 and still not seeing any debt. It could be that's coming out of my patrol exp but I'm on every day and patrolling plenty... so I don't think there really is any result to being defeated. If there is - it's barely nominal and certainly not felt by people who are face down...
  18. Apologies if there is already a point about this elsewhere, but when I played CoH originally there was experience debt as the main penalty. I always thought that was odd, since clearly it only has meaning before endgame. Now whenever I die there appears to be no debt. It's always 0. Is this temporary or what? Right now I don't fear death, which is a shame because we definitely need a healthy fear of death.
  19. Does anyone know if this is possible? Of course I'd love to see content partially developed by the community - it would be a massive boon to content. Will this reasonably happen?
  20. I wanted my first post here to be a thank you. I've been loving the game - and while I play I find that it's almost as though I'm in a dream sequence. I can't believe I actually get to play this game again. Thank you very much. I'd also like to volunteer to support this effort in any way that I can, as I'm sure so many of us would. Now that it's back, I want to protect it.
