  1. There's very little you can put in a base that gives you any significant in-game advantage. With the exception of storage, which isn't available outside of bases, the main advantage of bases is simple convenience. And the vast majority of base items are purely cosmetic, anyway. So there's no real mechanical reason to limit base building to "big, active" SGs. The old prestige system really accomplished nothing but to stifle creativity (and indirectly foster a mentality that SG bases ought to be small and sparse). The removal of prestige costs has allowed people to start creating bases that actually reflect their characters' and groups' personalities and stories, rather than just their activity levels.
  2. A fast-growing franchise, with locations now opening everywhere! :D
  3. I realize this is a bit off-topic, but.... What actually *is* Paragon Chat, anyway? I'd not heard of it until after the Homecoming servers came online, and I assumed initially it was just, essentially, a bulletin board where old CoX players chatted with each other (and maybe did some RPing with characters sans game). But comments like yours seem to suggest there was more to it than that....
  4. Back on live, I had a character who was a mishmash of cobbled-together cyborg/robot parts. His name was some variation on the Six Million Dollar Man, and his bio was a parody of the old TV show's intro, the main point of which was that $6 million just doesn't buy what it used to. Along similar lines, maybe someone should create "The Bionicle Man," a cyborg made with $6 million worth of LEGO bricks. :D
  5. Maybe name at least one "Ben Affliction"?
  6. There are large letters available (under the "Alphabet" tab in the objects menu) from which you can make wall signs. But they *are* large, so the amount of text you can reasonably include is pretty limited. Hopefully, we'll eventually get smaller letters as an option from which to make less overwhelming signage. :)
  7. This would be amazing! No more "hiding" portals behind decorative doors. :)
  8. If you're building above or below the map, the only way to keep players from leaving the area you've created is to make sure there's nowhere from which they *can* leave. If you've got an open sky area, then flying chars *will* be able to leave your creation and fly around and under it. And if you've got edges that aren't blocked by walls, large rocks, thick groves of trees, or whatever, then even non-flying characters will be able to reach the edge and jump/fall off. Unfortunately, there's no way around that. EDIT: Actually, it occurs to me that there *might* be a way around the problem. I'm not home and so can't actually test this right now, but if you use large flat surfaces (like grass plates) to "box in" the open area, but face them outward, they'll be invisible (as they have no bottom texture) but should still stop characters from leaving the defined area. EDIT #2: I just checked, and yes, grass plates will indeed work as invisible walls.
  9. SG Name: Collins Cybernetics RP/RP Friendly: RP Welcome, But Optional Theme/Era: Modern Tech Corporation Redside/Blueside: [shadow=purple,right]Purple[/shadow] Recruitment Message: "Powers to the People!" Founded by Dr. Kallista Collins, aka "Techni-Kallie," Collins Cybernetics supports the activities of a wide range of super-powered individuals - with little concern for "hero" or "villain" status - in exchange for the opportunity to study and attempt to replicate their powers. The company's stated goal is to provide "powers to the people." Of course, the reality is that very few people can actually afford Collins' tech, but that's fine, so long as corporations and governments are willing to pay. Collins Cybernetics is a brand new, optional light RP, mostly social "purple" supergroup, open to heroes and villains alike. We don't much care which side of the fence you're on (unless perhaps you're actively trying to *destroy* the world). Sure, an orderly society is good for business, but so is a little chaos, especially when your business is, to be blunt, the manufacture of personal armaments. It's all about balance... for the greater profit! I'm not much of an RPer myself, which is why the SG isn't RP-focused, but I'm open to it, and I've tried to create a concept and a base design that allow for RP opportunities. I'm also definitely open to coalitions with other SGs. Having more folk to chat with in-game is always a good thing! Feel free to visit our corporate campus. Passcode "COLLINS-4493" will get you there. If you stop by, be sure to visit the abandoned 5th Column facility that Collins discovered and is currently refurbishing for completely non-nefarious purposes. You can access it from the secure door in the board room. Don't mind the laser cannon in the hallway leading to the portal; it's (probably) in safe mode. ;) You can reach me in-game via global chat handle @dburgdorf. 10. I believe you simply arrive at your destination facing in the same direction you were facing when you clicked on the portal.
  11. Myself, I have a total of five portals. Three portals go to blue zones: one to the lower-level city zones, one to the higher-level city zones, and one to the hazard/trial zones. The fourth portal goes to red zones. And the fifth portal goes to "purple" zones, the places both heroes and villains can visit.
  12. In my case, the grid was never disabled as I placed things. I simply placed some items using the 1/2 x 1/2 grid instead of the 1 x 1 grid, and those items, after a reload of the base, were popping back to fit on the 1 x 1 grid. But again, that was *not* happening this morning. So I have no clue what was going on yesterday or if/when I'll suddenly see the misbehavior again. :(
  13. I did some testing this morning to try to determine whether anchoring to floor vs anchoring to surface makes a difference, as I suspected the bug was related to using surface anchoring. BUT.... I can't reproduce my own issue. The items that were constantly bouncing back to grid yesterday are, this morning, stubbornly remaining exactly where I put them. Which is good, but.... Since I don't know why the misbehavior stopped, I have no confidence that it won't return.
  14. I asked about this on the Base Building channel of the Discord, and was told to post here, as the behavior's apparently similar to a bug others have already seen and reported.... I'm trying to create, under the map, a cavern with the feel of an abandoned 5th Column base. I'm using 5th Catwalk Planks and 5th Stairs to create a multi-level setting. In order to get the stairs, the planks, and the items *on* the planks to align properly, I have to have some things offset a half point on the vertical grid. But every damned time I leave the game and come back, everything in the undermap has reset to the grid. So my teleporter, for example, is either hovering over or buried within the planks it's supposed to be sitting on, and the planks and stairs themselves aren't properly aligned, as either the stairs or the planks have all jumped half a grid point up or down.
