  1. Never having played these 4 powersets, I'm curious about the pros and cons, synergies, similarities and differences between how these would play. Particularly if I was triple-boxing and had Cold/Son & Son/Son Defenders backing up the brute, giving 45% def, 58% res to all (but psi), double Tactics and Assault, spamming Shriek. My understanding is the Savage ST attack chain is very quick with Savage Strike-Maiming Slash-Vicious Slash. AoE would consist of Rending Fury on a short timer, Savage Leap on a longer one, and DNA Siphon on an even longer one. Rad I'm less sure about. There is Radioactive Smash, Radiation Siphon, and Devastating Blow, which do more damage than the Savage ST attack chain, but take longer to cast and cost more endurance. For AoE, Rad has Radiation Therapy, Irradiated Ground, Atom Smasher, and Ground Zero. Without really chasing defense or resistance bonuses, each has enough def and res to be mostly capped to everything (except psi). They both have solid regen around 500%, but I'm not sure how that really plays out with their powers. I've looked at some threads so I have some slotting ideas, but more for Savage/Bio than Rad/Rad. I'll attach what I have so far. If anyone can give me some ideas about how these might play out in the triple boxing situation with the defenders, I would appreciate it. Thanks. savage bio - Brute (Savage Melee).mxd rad rad - Brute (Radiation Melee).mxd
  2. Without trying hard (focusing on recharge/damage), my mids build has the blaster at 14% defense. Adding the 45 from Cold/ Defender and double maneuvers puts me at 59%, including Psi, with almost 20% psi res. Now the only thing to wonder about is if it will be worth it to try to triple box and make this blaster really tough or just keep playing melee.
  3. I have normally played brute, sometimes a tank, once a MM, once a Blood Widow. Some topics I saw awhile ago interested me in triple boxing and figuring out what I would play. I think I'm deciding on a primary Blaster, with 2 Defender bots on follow. My plan is a Son/Son and Cold/Son. At end game, this would provide 45% def to all, 58% res to all (but psi), immob/hold/stun/conf/fear protection (from Sonic Dispersion and double Tactics) and slow protection (from Arctic Fog). These defenders will spam a sonic attack on auto for double -20% res. With those starting parameters, I have determined that Fire is the natural Primary, since what I'm looking for is max damage. I have no need to slot for def or res, so I can focus on dmg and recharge. I don't know what might be the best secondary for this, maybe Atomic Manipulation? Since I've never played a blaster, I am really unsure. I would appreciate some pros and cons of the secondaries and please let me know if I'm missing some info here. I'm not sure if I would want to be primarily ranged or melee. My defender bots will have pretty decent resists and defenses, but I don't know what I will be capable of handling and I hope to only switch to them every 4 minutes for the shields, or for when we're using elevators. Taking Teleport might be very beneficial for this toon, so I can just port them to me after an elevator. Thanks for any help.
  4. That's an interesting point about Cold vs FF. Looking at the numbers, the big differences are Melee shield: Cold has res to cold and fire, FF has res to toxic; Ranged shield: Cold has def to only energy/negative typed, plus more res to cold, FF has def to fire/cold, as well as res against end drain; Toggle shield: Cold has 8.3% def (using 2 IO's and Incarnate) and res to fire/cold/energy and slow, with a 40 radius, while FF has 16.7% def and res to hold, immobilize, disorient and 25 radius. Some interesting tradeoffs. The defender numbers are so much larger than the MM numbers (47 Def vice 34, 58 Res vice 38), plus easier to handle, that's probably the way to go if my main is a blaster. I could use the MM's if my main is a brute/tanker who has more ability to hold aggro and already has some Def/Res. Another factor is I starting looking at blaster builds last night (I've never played one). There are just so many attacks, how would I use them all? I got to thinking, maybe I should go for corruptor to have some more buff/debuff. Or maybe even a 3rd Defender? I was thinking Dark/Fire Defender or Fire/Dark Corruptor could be fun. I've used Dark before on a thugs Mastermind and thought it was pretty good. If my main is a Dark/ Defender, that would even easily give me enough def that I could use the lower def from the MM bot to get the added dmg from the thugs or robots and still easily softcap. But would that be enough damage to roll through content? How much faster would the blaster be? These are things I don't know about, as I haven't played them as much. Can a Fire blaster (buffed to softcap res/def by the bots) kill faster than a /Fire Defender with Thugs bot, Fire/ corruptor, or TW/ brute? My guess is yes, but I'm not sure.
  5. I solo most of the time since my family doesn't play the game as much as they used to. I like to think of ways to get synergy. I have dual boxed a bit, having a defender following a tank to help him reach soft cap easily. I mostly play melee because I like to play tough toons. I recently saw something about triple boxing and it got me thinking. With a Cold/ and Sonic/ defender, I could get around 60% res to all but psi, and over 40% def to all but fire/cold. I was thinking tanker, but brutes have same res cap, so why not a brute for better damage? What secondary would be best if I get all that res and def? Seems like /Regen to finish the trifecta. So a Cold/Sonic & Sonic/Sonic defender following a TW/Regen brute, with Scream on auto-cast, defenders running superspeed with stealth proc and hover, mostly capped themselves. Seems great. Then I thought, what if I get my wife to join? What would be the most synergistic AT to add? Probably blaster for the damage, plus the blaster will benefit from all the res and def. Then I thought, my wife is busy and is not very interested in playing, and I'm going to be on mid shift soon for 3 months, so 3 is the likely limit, but what if I played the blaster instead of the brute? Would it be survivable enough while doing more damage? Then I thought, what if instead of defenders, I had 2 MM's? It would be a little less def and res, but a lot more damage. If I went that way, do I go robots and group fly and everyone is just flying around blasting stuff? Or do I go Thugs and stay on the ground? So those are the things I'm thinking about, would love to hear some advice, pros and cons and such. I'm not a tech wizard, I have 1 monitor and 1 keyboard and no fancy software to duplicate keystrokes so I'll just be alt-tabbing between accounts. I like the sonic because it's easy and has toggles, but maybe is more focused for a brute rather than a blaster. I'm looking for relative ease of use for the alts. The shields are nice because they last 4 minutes, so optimally I will only have to switch to those accounts that often to set the shields, whether it's defenders or masterminds. So the question is, blaster or brute for the primary? Defenders or MMs for the alts? Stick with Sonic and Cold for buffs to get res and def, or go for something that provides healing? I wouldn't think I would need much healing with these combos, but maybe it would help the pets if I go MM? But the pets should be well protected by all the buffs. Is this too ambitious? Probably not. I'm a red-side player, if that matters. Appreciate any advice or thoughts, thanks.

    MM Duo

My wife and I played a bunch after the game came back, now have taken a fairly long break. I've been thinking about getting back in and the concept of dual Masterminds has come to me. We did run a Thugs/Dark, Thugs/Poison duo on live. My new thought is a Thugs/Sonic + Thugs/Time. I've been reading through the forums and came up with these builds for them. I've seen some of the proc conversations, don't really understand them, so I don't know if this would be good slotting. I think it would be good synergy but I'd like to hear other ideas or thoughts about this duo. MM 4some

My wife and I played some MM's on live, Thugs/Dark and Thugs/Poison. I haven't started an MM on Homecoming yet, but I'm making plans. Something new added to the mix though, is dual-boxing. My wife and I each have a separate account for which we can add a helper to the party. We've done it a little bit with some brutes, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be really crazy on MM's as our mains. The thought is to have a Sonic Defender with leadership toggles and another defender with either more resistance or defense toggles, and these two just follow. I swap over every 4 minutes to recast shields, and otherwise leave them alone. What MM set would be most enhanced by having a pair of pocket defenders and another MM. I was thinking Thugs/Dark and Thugs/Rad, backed by a Sonic/Sonic and Thermal/Fire defenders, each with Leadership toggles/hover/stealth following. The two sets of thermal shields and leadership toggles combined with two MM leadership toggles and Enforcer toggles should get all pets pretty close to defense soft cap and resist hard cap for most things. Then I read a post about Beasts, and that sounds pretty good where I could change one of the Defenders to Cold Dom and get the Demons soft capped. Anyways, I don't know as much about Masterminds as brutes, so I would love to hear some suggestions about fun combos we could do this with. Thanks.
  8. I definitely want Fault. It's not just mitigation for me, but for whatever team I'm supporting. I took the two builds and came up with some ideas to improve my original build. Still have a few questions. How much accuracy do I need in Fault? It's fairly low to begin with, and since I was chasing F/C & E/N defense, I didn't build for more acc. 10. Hello, I am seeking assistance for this build. I am more a brute guy, but I wanted to make a tougher than nails toon. My first character was actually a tanker back in '04, but really nothing since. It seems like this build hits a lot of spots. I am just shooting to be as tough as possible, with some mitigation in the form of Fault and Tremor. I'm also not sure which alpha to go with on this build, so I'm looking for power/slotting/alpha suggestions. Thanks. 11. I posted awhile ago about creating a steamroll all buff/debuff team. My mates and I made our toons and have done some work with it, but it has been tough sledding for me. I made a son/son def and I'm not really happy with him. Recently I was browsing the Cor forum and saw this build for a Fire/Time Cor that looked really intriguing. DPS Support Tank Then I got to thinking, what would changing this to a defender look like? I put it together and it looks like better buffs, as I expected, but the damage looked to be pretty close. I know it's not accounting for scourge, so my question is, what would be the pros and cons of using this build on def vice cor? Thanks. 13. I have been looking at both of these in Pines. With 26 slots left to go I can easily get Invul def to 39.6% S/L, 37.1% E/N/F/C, and 29.5% psi, with res 90% S/L, 48.2% E/N,Toxic, 45.2% F/C, and 55.7% Psi. Regen at 216%, HP 188%, 50% DDR. At about the same amount of difficulty, Willpower has def 26.3% S/L, 37.2% F/C/E/N, 32.5% Psi with res 90% S/L, 31.1% F/C/Toxic, 34.8% E/N, and 66.5% Psi. Regen at 663%, HP 162.2%, 21.6% DDR. Willpower also has better status protection to confuse and fear, and better status resistance. I want to pair this armor set with Stone Melee. The question is, does the extra regen from Willpower compensate for lower S/L def, and lower E/N/F/C/Toxic resist, plus lower DDR? My goal is to be extremely sturdy. I want to be able to sit in the middle of multiple AVs and not worry about dying. I did an Apex/Tin Mage last night with my Spines/FA Brute, who is a good farmer but also built for normal content and has 90% S/L res and 45% S/L def. I did not like dying as many times as I did. I did not like feeling as squishy as I felt. At the same time, if I'm going to sacrifice the brute damage, I need to make up for it in surviveability, so that is the goal here. Tanking for SF and iTrials. Can you give me the pros and cons of these armor powersets, related to each other? Thanks.
  14. So, for better or worse, my peeps have decided on the following: Controller Plant/Dark Defender Sonic/Sonic Defender Rad/Archery Corruptor Fire/Kin Corruptor Ice/Cold Corruptor Beam/Thermal So, this is not strictly a defender post anymore, but I would welcome advice on what powers to definitely take and which are skippable. We're looking at taking Maneuvers, Assault, and Tactics for all of the toons. We will be doing Cap SF and up. Most of these toons are already in the 30-50 range, so we just need builds, IO's, and then take it to work. Thanks for all your advice and suggestions so far.
  15. I thought Thermal would be a good add, not only for the extra resist buffs and forge, but for the debuffs of Heat Exhaustion and Melt Armor. Are you suggesting that the extra resist is not needed and the debuffs aren't up enough? They do have long recharge times, but with enough recharge, which will probably be there, could be up every other spawn or so.
  16. It is entirely possible that I'm underestimating defenders. One of my concerns is that teams don't always stay together. Sure, when we're all in range, maneuvers and resist toggles will get everyone capped, but I wanted to make sure the Sonic/ defender was able to get their resistance capped as well. Anyways, after reading the responses and thinking about it some more, I think the play might be to have the 6 mains toons use Rad, Cold, Dark, Thermal (all with good debuffs), kin, and sonic (with good buffs). Another two can be whatever, we should be rolling with that. Also, I'm not sure how much it matters that the AT is a defender for some of the sets, such as Kin and Dark. We'll probably go with the existing Fire/Kin Cor and Plant/Dark 'Troller. Maybe go Corrupter for Ice/Cold or Water/Cold as well. Seems like the Thermal and Sonic should definitely be defender, maybe the Rad as well, although looking at the numbers they don't seem very different between def and cor. I appreciate all the responses and welcome more.
  17. I'm having a great time being back in CoV. Much of my legacy Coalition has returned and we are creating teams and doing Strike Forces and such. I remember reading about all defender super teams in the past, and the idea came up tonight for a Themed Team made of the coalition members. We have at least 6 people who play regularly, and more who play sometimes. Leaving aside the themes, unless you have some suggestions, I was trying to wrap my mind around what would be a great synergistic build of 6-8 defenders. Goals are maxing defense and resistance, for buffs, along with +recovery and +regen, and -resist and -regen for debuffs. I came up with Sonic (x2), Thermal, Kin, Cold, and Dark. We already have a Fire/Kin Corruptor, and I thought that would be ok, and we have a Plant/Dark Controller, which I also thought would be ok, so long as the other 4-6 are defenders. We could go 2 sonic/sonic, a thermal/beam, and a cold/ice, with whatever for the remaining 2. With everyone running full leadership pool, we should be at defense softcap from /dark controller and Cold/ defender. My question is, am I on the right track with these combos? Am I missing something? What would be good combos for the last 2? Should I modify anything? I have played almost exclusively brutes, so this would be a big change for me and I'm not familiar at all with the ins and outs of defender play, but I'm interested in finding out. Thanks.
