The major endurance cost for controller pets is the summon (26 end). I generally slot controllers pets with 4-6 Expedient Reinforcement, which offers a decent amount of endred (affects both the summon and the pet's attacks). I usually slot Dark Servant with 4 Cloud Senses plus 2 Touch of the Nictus.
You shouldn't have any endurance issues with a /Dark controller if you use Soul Absorption every time it's up. It provides a massive recovery/regen buff that lasts 45s and increases per target hit (alive or dead).
Ok just to clarify that I understood what you say here...
Summoning pets costs endurance and slotting the pet with Endredux is what mitigates that?
Fluffy has a short lifespan, so is that a factor there?

I think there's your real problem.
Traps is very very powerful. Sure, it's slow, and on a fast moving team it's not going to do a huge amount but if you're on a team that's moving that fast, clearly it isn't that necessary and you can kick back and focus on your primaries - but you've still got your lovely FFG following you faithfully allowing your squad to get in their and biff stuff on the nose.
But when the proverbial excrement impacts a rapidly rotating impeller, you can hold everything solid and allow you and your team to hold a line, just by popping down some useful tools and letting henchmen and teammates do the damage
Not every set needs to be build to help you rush headlong into danger. If you ever play it solo or in micro-teams you'll find out just how useful it really is.

Just got an ancient Plant/Dark troller out.
It's poorly slotted (see my Pets & End if you want to know more) but I noticed even without Endurance it can still stand its own. at even conning mobs at lvl 48
It has 2 pets and it's very hard to see (and hit) - I've never used Black Hole before but I kinda understand the mechanic now and rather like it. It makes sense to me at least.
With some good slotting, perm Carrion Creepers and both pets doing their worst I'm thinking it has the potential to do some really nasty damage and stay suriviving without too many challenges.

I just jumped on a toon I'd not played in a long time (lvl 48 Plant/Dark troller) and I noticed that its end consumption is through the roof
It's not well slotted or close to optimised - that's something I don't normally do until lvl 50 for obvious reasons.
But even after detoggling many of my regular powers I notice it's still high but fortunately I'm able to let Seymour and Fluffy do a lot of the heavy lifting.
I checked my build and notice both of those take End Redux enhancers and that made me wonder why? What happens if you don't slot a pet with End Redux?
It seems to me there are maybe 2 or 3 outcomes:
- Pet runs out of End and stops functioning other than a prestige pet that follows around (except it can get hit)
- Pet runs out of end and then starts to draw on PC's end to function
- Pets automatically consume PCs end and End Redux mitigates
- Something entirely different I haven't figured out yet (if so, what?)
(yes I realise 2 & 3 are very similar but I think there is a subtle difference)
I'd never really considered this previously. I don't usually slot pets for anything other than their core strengths (Acc, Damage, Holds etc) but then I've never had 2 running together. I don't usually have Endurance issues this late in the game - but that said this character has languished for as long as I recall.

Somebody please tell the CCs that grammar is actually quite important!

Plant Control says Hi.
I mean, don't get me wrong. New Plant, is plenty viable. I'm re-levelling a Plant/Psi dom, and doing just fine.
But it's definitely some Tennyson,
"...Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,..."Truthfully I've not noticed much different in my Plant trollers. I am not denying there is a change but I haven't really noticed much.

Hold on now.
What I asked wasn't a hard question: "Should the set rely on more than three or four powers?"
I also pointed out what seems to be a disparity between archetypes using the same powerset.
A number of folks have been able to manage a reply based on their opinion and their experience, without the need to lash out at me personally. Seven or eight 'you/your/etc' in four sentences seems unusual.
Question: Is there a reason this topic has triggered such a response from yourself? It's just a discussion.
I fundamentally disagree with your premise. It doesn't rely on them. It might be possible to do so, in the same way a well practised micro team can run almost all the content in the game.
Reliance and necessity are two very different things and ultimately the game is the game and it works reasonably well as is for most players.
I wasn't lashing out, I'm sorry if you felt I came across in that way but as you and I both have agreed in other threads there are sets with superfluous powers but people still take them for many reasons not the least of which is that they enjoy them.
Can you play with just those powers? I'm sure you can but that's only reliance if you choose nothing else and this game is about variety.
But let's suppose for just one moment that you are correct and a few powers in the set are OP - what would you prefer to do? Nerf them and maybe boost some of the other powers? I guarantee that'd piss a few people off so there's no real solution without heartache somewhere

Typical buzzsaw attack chain:
Follow Up -> Focus -> Slash -> [epic/other] -> repeat
Power Level Effect Swipe
1 Melee, DMG(Lethal) Strike
1 Melee, DMG(Lethal) Slash
2 Melee, DoT(Lethal), Foe -DEF(All) Spin
6 PBAoE, DMG(Lethal) Follow Up
8 Melee, DMG(Lethal), Self +DMG, +To-Hit Confront
12 Ranged, Foe Taunt Focus
18 Ranged, DMG(Lethal), Foe Knockdown Eviscerate
22 Melee (Cone), DMG(Lethal), +Special Shockwave
26 Melee (Cone), DMG(Lethal), Foe Knockback I'd just like to take a moment to remind you that this is actually a game, rather than an automated process. It should be played the way individuals enjoy it and more than two decades of game play have amply demonstrated that the proverbial cat can be skinned in multiple ways.
If you feel there are too many crap powers, you are perfectly at liberty to leave them out, ensuring they never appear in your rotation, come not within a single parsec of darkening any doorstep to which you happen to be approximate to and not let such terrible sub-optimal powers trouble your weary head, ever again.
However that last part may be tricky because they do seem to be living within your cranium at a hugely subsidised rental.

You can all rate me 5 stars. I am a horrible person who plays poorly and i am annoying. But…. I am sooo much cooler than everyone else. I wear formal attire, not… *shudders …brightly colored tights. I know many smart, very smart people, who say I should be rated 6 stars.
You get No Stars.
Zero, Zilch, Nada, Nought
No Stars, no proto-Stars, no gas giants, no minor astral bodies.
But you can have some random space dust with which to line your Sarcoughaghost

I'm inexpert in melee but I have a Rad/Kin tanker that's a delight to play. It's slow but doesn't seem to be lacking in performance and is highly survivable.
My only suggestion to improve it would be maybe make a tiny bit more damaging per attack!

I think if you toggle so much to have 1500 prismatics you'll go blind so other colour options are irrelevant.

Black Hole - Final Verdict
in General Discussion
Posted
I have no recollection of ever using it before but I did pick up one of my dark toons the other day (I don't have many) and it had Black Hole. It was not well slotted but I tried it a few times and I got it and I actually found I quite liked it. I understand what it's meant to do and it does actually seem to do it
Make of this what you will but I was pleasantly surprised at how it functioned and what it does.
