I bind z to my spring/ninja run power(s).  I bind r to my flight or jump pack powers.  I have started using mousechord for an ally-targeted heal and a leftdoubleclick to a self heal.  I also sometimes use mousechord or ` for domination.  I use alt+leftmouseclick for petcomall goto passive on all my masterminds.  I have been using the function keys for various costume changes.  I use numpad 9 for the auction house and numpad 6 for my enhancement management screen.  :-)

First thing I change is the WASD movement keys.

I use WERD instead ... which inverts the T shape of the movement keys and moves the entire array of keys being used over 1 key to the right on the keyboard.

 

Doing this puts the curl of my fingers above the keyboard into a more natural rest position and because I'm using the E key under my left middle finger to go forwards it puts the rest of my fingers into an easier/shorter movement position to be able to reach the 1-6 keys (since the E key is exactly between the 3 and 4 on my keyboard) as well as the F1-F6 keys as well.

Your level of attention to ergonomics is exactly what I expected from someone with that particular signature line.

F is always my primary travel power, and G is the secondary (Hover, CJ, etc). 

 

If teleport is used, LShift+LMouse is the go to, with LCtrl+LMouse for secondary teleports (Dwarf Steps). 

 

Mouse4 and Mouse5 are used when I have toggles that I’ll use often, and N is for turning those off (Kheldian forms, or Hurricane). 

 

V is the Stealth power, if I have one. 

 

Sometimes I’ll set Enter as a “/afk Smacking the keyboard...$$beginchat”, depending on the character and how I’m feeling at any given moment. 

 

I may look into using WERD on a character, and see how it feels. WASD has felt a little cramped, and I have to stretch for 5 and 6, so that might go over better.

It's going to feel ... weird ... (no pun intended) for about a week as you retrain your muscle memory to use WERD instead of WASD.  It's just a matter of breaking an old habit and forming a new one.  The relevant part of rewriting the involved keybinding scheme (which is included in the above, obviously) ... is this: 

w "+left"
e "+forward"
r "+right"
s "+turnleft"
d "+backward"
f "+turnright"

E is move forward ... D is move backwards.

W is strafe left ... R is strafe right.

S is turn left ... F is turn right.

 

I barely use the turn keys at all, but I use the forward/back and strafe left/right keys all the time.

By moving my movement keys into the WERD position, that frees up the Q+A keys to the left so that I can use them for Throttle Up/Throttle Down in games that use that kind of continuous movement control (Star Trek Online while in space) with little difficulty.  Here on Homecoming I use Shift+Q for autorun, so as to make it a "more deliberate" action that is harder to do accidentally.

I use a Nostromo controller (well now its successor from Razer) with its default WASD setup with  a couple-three keys changed.  A lot of games, both online & not, use "E" as the use/activation key which I either put at top right or just below it depending on the game.

I started out with a Nostromo n50 then n52, then switched over to the Logitech G13, as I did't want to pay the then premium to get the Razor branding for a physically identical device. The G13 cost more than the Razor but I felt it was a better device I'm now on my 2nd and could really do with another/upgrade.

 

Keys beyond the standard:

ctrl+lbutton "powexec_name teleport" - Allows ctrl+click to teleport to that location.

numpad1 "request_exit_mission 0" - Exits a finished mission.

ctrl+NUMPAD0 "bindload$$chatload$$optionload$$wdwload$$tell $name, Settings Loaded" - Reloads all of my basic settings files and send a tell to that character. I really only use it to update my binds when I've changed them on one character to propagate the changes. But I have also used it when I have lots of windows open.

CTRL+NUMPAD3 "quittocharacterselect" - Fast quit to character select, mostly on a bind because I'm always forgetting that it's "quit" and not "exit"...

I also have a similar set of inspriation buttons as posted above (on Numpad 7,8,9,4,5,6,3).

OMG! I think I found someone who plays almost like me!!!

I move with the wasd keys and fire off all my powers with the number pad!! Numpad1-0 for tray 1, Alt+numpad1-0 for tray two, and ctrl+numpad1-0 for tray three! I like the shift+numpad for team select.. I may have to add that for my controllers/defenders/etc. 

I've also added numpad+ for target nearest enemy, numpad- for target previous enemy. 
 

A very useful bind for all my melee toons is numpad* (multiply) target_enemy_near$$follow. 

 

Shift+y is always Fly

I've also set w to "+forward$$e flypose3" (This only changes the flypose when I release the W key, so I use it in conjunction with R or I press the W twice.)

 

Shift+J is "super jump$$combat jumping" so I can toggle between the two for my jumpers

Also on my jumpers I've got numpad0 bound to "ninja run$$combat jumping" since I want to run in missions and I forget to turn CJ back on when I stop running.

So do you play with both hands kind of scrunched over to the right side of your desk, or do you move your keyboard way to the left?

 

I sometimes also bind 'E' to various commonly used powers - kind of reminds me of the use/interact key from some FPS's.

My hand positioning depends on if I'm in casual/roleplay mode, or down-to-brass-tacks-gaming mode.
If casual, and ergo probably typing quite a bit, I'll use just the mouse for movement with my right hand.  No need to strafe, generally, when things are relaxing.

If I'm going all-in, then my left hand usually rests over the arrow keys, positioned in such a way that the numpad is easily accessible, with the fatty part of my palm below the pinky resting on the outcropping below the space bar and/or Windows key on my keyboard.   Right hand on the mouse, unless I've got to swap for something a little more complex or type a message to the team in a hurry.

Well, I use the mouse to look around and select stuff, but not for movement, per se;  I basically do the "coarse" movements with WASD, and the fine turning/aiming/selecting with the mouse.  As I did with the other person who stated they use the arrow keys - do you have both hands crammed together near the right side of the keyboard, or do you move the entire keyboard over to the left, so you have more space?

I use the whole keyboard. left hand is on the left side, where it can reach the 1-0 keys (1-6 mostly), shift, alt, control, tab, and most of the utilitarian keybinds. the right hand is all for movement, including travel powers and elevation control. I do use the mouse for clicking doors and objectives...and the stupid ok boxes in the popup windows.

I'm not sure how I did it but I did for a while on live have strafe and turn bound in such a way that when I had mouse look on I strafed, when it was off I turned.
