Dark/ SR Build...Too much defense..?

Hey all,

 

This is my first Sentinel and i'm not sure if i'm doing it right haha. I'm looking to get as much defense as necessary before it get ridiculously overboard. As of now, i'm not doing any incarnate level content so I figure *maybe* I could lessen my defense numbers. I'm looking for solid defense, good damage great survivability. This is what I came up with and I humbly present it here for your feedback :)

Nah.  Actually looks pretty good.
Sure, it's overkill for normal content at 50.
But for Incarnate stuff?  You're not QUITE Incarnate Soft Cap, but you're good as long as you don't go nuts.
Also, that extra defense" provides SWEET padding against Defense Debuffs (though you're rocking a hefty 73.5% DDR).

Only worry about it if you can MASSIVELY boost your Resists.

I dunno if this build qualifies as "massively".
But it's a bit better balanced than yours.

As an alternative example to give you a variety of ideas and options, I'll attach a build, too.  Bear in mind that -ToHit effectively stacks with your defense.  Blackstar is -35% for 20 seconds on a 30 second cooldown.  DOblit is -5% to everything it hits.  Your single target attacks (4 of them) all stack -5%, as well.  Blackstar + DOblit will quickly erase the small fry mobs.  Your ST chain should keep you Incarnate capped against single hard targets.

@Hyperstrikei'm away from mids today but so far it looks like a great alternative! Thanks for providing feedback! I'll run the numbers when I get home later but so far the stats look solid.

 

@CaulderoneYou brought up a great point about -ToHit! I have to factor that into consideration because once that's in play i'll really be at an advantage. I'll plug in tonight and do some testing.

Ok! So I tweaked the build a little bit so I could add some resistance and still keep close to Incarnate level defenses (especially when you factor in Dark's -ToHit). I looked at the builds that both of you submitted and I tweaked mine a little bit to fill in some of the holes I think it had. I decided to re-add Hasten into the mix because I could get Aim + Blackstar up pretty much every mob with it (29 sec recharge). I was also still able to keep my procs in there and I think (I hope) they will serve me well! Thanks again everyone for taking a look at this build. I'll provide an update when influence permits lol :)

I looked at the builds that both of you submitted and I tweaked mine a little bit to fill in some of the holes I think it had. I decided to re-add Hasten into the mix because I could get Aim + Blackstar up pretty much every mob with it (29 sec recharge). Impressive numbers! What is you reasoning for including Kick in your chain? I love the prospect of more recharge, however I wonder how much i'm going to get out of a melee power. Apart from Blackstar, I usually like to stay ranged with this toon. Unless i'm missing a bigger picture?

Basically you HAVE to take either Boxing or Kick to get to the later choices in the Fighting pool.
These attack choices demonstrably inferior to Primary and Secondary pool attacks.
As such, people hold their nose and take their medicine with them.
Then leave them as "One Slot Wonders".

With Boxing there's a couple procs that can affect the enemy.  But, with a OSW, it's generally not work using.

With Kick, you have the Force Feedback proc.  This proc directly affects YOU by giving you 5 seconds of +100% Recharge.
Again, in an OSW, the likelihood that you'll use it is small.  But it provides a a directly beneficial effect to you, instead of trying to enforce it on an enemy.

IMNSHO, this makes Kick a marginally better choice than Boxing.  And I view Boxing as only marginally better than being racked in the nuts by an entire team of soccer players...
