Superior Critical Strikes

The 50% Critical proc in this set. Does that apply to the power it is put on giving it a 50% crit rate or does it buff you so your NEXT attack has a 50% critical chance? And if it buffs you is that buff more likely to go off if you put it into an AOE and hit multiple enemies with it?

When it triggers, the proc gives you a ~5 sec window where you get +50% crit rate on all attacks. 

 

AoEs technically have better odds yes, but honestly the base recharge of the power is a better determining factor 🙂

Probably technically not the best place for it, but I've been testing using it in my damage aura (in bio armor) and it fires off at a decent rate even there.

So if I'm playing a Kinetic Melee primary, I really want to crit with that T9 attack.  Is the best bet for proccing this thing to put it into the PBAOE attack?

That's a complicated question to answer and will depend on your specific slotting and attack chain. Here is Bopper's thread on the topic, if you don't mind doing the math you can get a specific answer. Someone also has a spreadsheet with the calculations in it, but I can't seem to find it.

Ugh.  I appreciate your linking that through, but I'll be honest, I don't want to engage in that level of spreadsheeting. I'll probably just take a best guess, put it somewhere, and if that doesn't work out well, buy a bunch of unslotters and start over.

Turns out that spreadsheet with the formulas was only for Hybrid Assault, so wouldn't do any good here. Post your build and I'll see if I can get you a direct answer later tonight when I get home.

I appreciate the hell out of the offer, but I just started digging in my Mids directory, and I realized I don't actually have a finished build typed up for the Scrapper in question, I've been winging it off some older builds.  If you're still amenable to giving advice I'll get something to you in the next day or so.

I usually put it in a PBAoE that I used as a starter for my attack chain, then fire off my big dmg ability (another AoE or ST big dmg) right after.

How does Chain Induction work with procs? Does it boost the “pseudo pet” or you during the chain?

I got the passive in swipe. It's the only slot there and swipe isn't even in my toolbar.

Got the proc in followup to buff focus and slash. Or spin and shockwave. Or focus and spin. Depending on what's around me.

The full Superior Scrapper Strikes set bonuses are really good though

Agreed, but I couldn't spare the slots on my current build. Really should just dump it on the scrapper forums and get ideas for an overhaul.

please do, would love to see your build and discussion around it.  claws/sr is on my list of characters to recreate on HC and having an internal debate about scrapper vs. brute.  not seeing very many examples on the forums to compare and contrast.  your build would be a great starting benchmark for the scrapper side

thank you Bill Z Bubba, appreciate your posting your build. 

does it have endurance issues?  seeing a lot of slots in stamina, using body mastery, etc.  if it does, wondering if changing the 4th slot in all the LoTG enhancements from def/rech to def/end/rech might help a little.  because you hit ED reductions for the def piece, that change lowers def % increase on focused fighting, for example, from 21.92 to 21.86 which changes your total melee defense from 47.8 to 47.7 but reduces the endurance consumption from .20 to .17, times 4 sets, would reduce overall endurance consumption by .12, almost half the original cost of one of the toggles for very little change to the defense numbers.

or I could be totally over thinking it 😀

You're not over thinking it. While I have no end issues since I click conserve power when it's up, there's nothing wrong with changing the def/rech to def/end/rech. Matter of fact, finding more melee defense for the build would be a very good thing since the softcap against incarnate enemies is 58% instead of 45%.

Nice looking build.  One suggestion might be to replace the Fly IOs in Hover and Afterburner with the Shield Wall in FF and the Reactive Defense in FS.  You can add a 5th LotG in FF and FS to boost S/L resistance.  Or you basically free up those 2 slots to use somewhere else.  One slot to Conserve Power and boosting the IOs to +5 could be an option.  The other slot could go into Stamina for the 5th Performance Shifter for 2.5% Damage.

 

Also, boosting your Recharge IOs in Hasten to +5 will make Hasten perma.

Those are all very nice tips. Since I have afterburner, I don't need to boost fly's regular speed.

 

I do have all basic IOs in the build at +5 now. And a Microfilament++ in sprint so I don't have to bother turning it off.

I've tried to improve it a bit.

 

Improvements:

  • Better recharge. Hasten is now perma
  • +3% dmg all
  • Melee Defense boosted to 50%+
  • Some extra HP and Regen
  • Slightly better resists

Trade-offs:

  • Lost some +acc bonuses. I really didn't think you needed that much +acc.
  • Slight loss on both AoE and Ranged defenses (0,3% I believe) - which would still be over soft cap if you boost your enhancements
  • 1% less recovery rate, but higher endurance discount. It's probably an improvement in the end (pun intended)

 

I'd probably rethink if you need that many slots on stamina, health and PP. I didn't mess with it, because you might have some concerns that I'm not aware of.
