Fire/Time/Dark, the ultimate DPS/Support/Tank hybrid

Would Power Boost from the Soul tree (Still get Soul Drain, just non perma according to Pines)... Be useful for this build?  I don't see Power Boost augmenting Rune of Protection in Pines (Or Clarion), which would cap all our resists...

/Time Manipulation/ is just such an adaptable set there really isn't a single right nor a wrong way to build one of these.

  • I went heavier armor, no snipe.  This biases the build(s) differently.  The lighter armor build will have a definite damage advantage due to higher recharge, that could change both the ST and AoE Biases and differences.
  • In pylon testing I found minimal difference in snipe vs no snipe in my heavier armor configurations.  This should be retested with the snipe changes, but I'm not going to.
  • I also found minimal difference in pylon testing defender vs corruptor on the heavier armor config, so in the end I retired the corruptor.
  • If you frequently team with other sources of +damage, the corruptor will be better due to it's larger caps.  I more frequently solo, so the higher +damage and +defense numbers favor defender.
  • Run Amps, and the armor difference will be mostly negated, and then favor the corruptor, and not only the corruptor, but the more lightly armored corruptor.  (any resources you don't "need" to spend on armor, should be spent on offense.  You just have to decide how much armor your "need" for your playstyle and choices"
  • Guassain Proc would go better in SD, but I preferred to favor the low-end for malfactoring.
  • Respec Only Build, otherwise you can't overload the last slot.

Looks nice Linea! Definitely lots of ways to build this combo due to how flexible and powerful it is.

The original iteration of the build had Tough and Weave, but there are just so many nifty powers to pick up and it's plenty tanky enough with RoP and Clarion Farsight for my taste.

Right now I'm working on fitting Aim in. So far I'm deliberating dropping Super Speed (and replacing CJ with Stealth) or Distortion Field.

[*]Rune/Hybrid Core T4/Rune ... provide 500s of status and resist with a 30s gap ... then it gets complicated, but in practice works fairly well for me.  Fill the gap with Demonic/Eye of Magus, Wedding Band, Inspirations, Kitchen Sink or just simply walking between spawns ...

[*]That in turn frees up the Clarion slot for other uses, most often ageless +ddr for me.  Not sure what use you'll put it too in order to free up slots for aim, but it's an option to look at.  I use (Clarion Radial +Special * Power Build Up * Farsight) on one of my alternate defender builds, so I definitely think it's worth building Clarion Radial, or both Clarions.  I built both Clarion T4s, and others, on live.  Time is the build I built so many various extra incarnate powers for on live.

[*]I'm fond of Distortion with the Hold Proc.  Don't always get to slot it that way in my builds, but I'm fond of it when I can.

[*]I run way more Amps, Dampeners, and Base Buffs now days than I should.  But it makes some builds so much easier.  I wouldn't do it as a primary build without at least some caution (they are disabled in master's runs, and probably i-trials), but it might be worth it in one of the two extra build slots for all the other content.

How does this build survive the fire farm? I whipped it up on Justin, and lasted all of maybe ten seconds before getting wiped out. I could not kill or debuff quickly enough to make a difference in the incoming damage.

You can run the S/L comic-con farm with it, but it's best in a battle-maiden farm.

Our attack chain (blaze-snipe-blaze-fireball-flares) is very recharge-dependent so recharge slightly increases our DPS. It also makes Soul Drain perma, increases the endurance we get from Chrono Shift, and Fireball+Inferno are up more often.

curious on your thoughts on just corrupter vs defender in general.

defender pros:

  • stronger heals (15% ish)
  • stronger debuffs in general
    +slowed response -res (30% vs 25%)
+rain of fire -slow (-50% vs 40%) -- this one is a shocker... its the secondary tree for defender.......
    +distortion field slow (90% vs 70%)
    +times juncture -hit (15.5% vs 12.5%) and damage debuff (25% vs 20%)
  • stronger defenses in general (some of these really surprised me)
    +farsight defense (12.5% vs 9.4%)
    +dark embrace power pool (27.5% smash/lethal vs 20%)
+rune of protection (mystic power pool) -- 25% vs 19%
    +maneuvers (leadership power pool) -- 3.5% vs 2.5%
    +combat jumping... 2.5% vs 2.1% (really??)
  • flexible in skipping time crawl
+not a particularly strong power, can be skipped entirely as defender in favor of AIM, super speed, temporal selection, time stop, vengeance,.
  • stronger solo damage (on average)

Corrupter Pros:

  • Higher BASE HP (1071 vs 1017 -- this kind of looks like TYPO in pines, but ill give it to the corrupter)
  • Higher BASE damage
+Roughly 15% stronger attacks BASELINE (big footnote on this)
  • CRITS at low health
  • Objectively "better" archetype IO procs

a lot of the data really shocked me.  initially it seems like defender is just obviously only going to be stronger in defense/debuffs (as it should be), but then i looked into the damage numbers.  especially considering this build is extremely capable solo, the defender actually does MORE damage solo on average than the corrupter even before debuffs are concerned.  as noted above, the corrupter BASE damage is 15% higher, but the defender has a 30% damage buff solo and has a stronger leadership assault (18.75% vs 15%) buff.  AIM is stronger on defender (50% vs 42.5%, which is again ODD like rain of fire being it is the corrupter's primary).  even soul drain is just flat out better on the defender (8% per target vs 6.8% per target).  As far as solo is concerned, defender would only lose out in cases where the corrupter is scoring crits in execute range.  and frankly, in a team environment, the 10% damage difference (discounting crits in execute range) will barely be noticeable.

i guess ultimately the biggest difference is the damage buff cap.  the corrupter, having 15% stronger BASE damage and a damage buff cap at 500% can land the bigger hits at the end of the day.  the defender will be limited to a 400% damage buff cap.

consider a solo defender: 100% (baseline) + 30% (vigilance passive) + 100% (slotted damage enhancement... roughly) + 80% (max soul drain) +50% (AIM) + 75%(gaussian build up proc) +18.75%(assault leadership) === 453.75%.  This will turn into 400% and the gaussian proc is ultimately fairly useless (its only a few seconds anyways so i would reasonably say just dont run it in a defender build)

consider a solo corruptor: 100% (baseline) + 100% (slotted damage enhancement... roughly) + 62.5% (max soul drain) +50% (AIM) + 75%(gaussian build up proc) +15%(assault leadership) === 402.5%.  This still leaves an additional 97.5% to bump via inspirations or party members.

worth noting that aim (along with gaussian proc) are much more temporary than the rest of the numbers, but i think the damage cap would reasonably only be a concern if you are in a party with a /kin archetype (which is actually fairly common).  BUT if you are in a party with a /kin, i would seriously doubt the party overall is struggling for damage.  Also worth noting that the corrupter scourge crits are not very noticeable unless fighting an elite boss or AV solo (as in a party, even AVs will melt before you can land more than 2 attacks in execute range).

overall it would seem that the defender would reach much higher defense/resist numbers far easier and could conceivably move some slots around for more utility stuff like annihilation & gladiator -resist debuff, which could potentially swing defenders even further in the spotlight for solo damage & party damage.  im sure there are other interesting IO procs as well.  and with that i wonder -- is defender OP? is the 500% damage cap worth all the sacrifice?  it would be difficult for me to justify saying corrupter should be buffed or defender should be nerfed, but this little research project is eye opening to me at least.

Great write-up, though you're underselling Corruptor a bit.

In my experience Scourge procs way more often than you might think, since you unload your debuffs/AoE's first which lowers the damage you need to deal to reach Scourge range. As for the damage cap, if you have a single Kinetics character on your team that's a huge advantage. And speaking of teams, the base damage comes into play there as vigilance stops giving a damage boost.

So in Solo-play, Scourge will keep you ahead. And in teams, damage-wise you're ahead thanks to Scourge, the base damage, damage cap, and Vigilance being weaksauce. Defender will be ahead in support of course, but that's always the case.

Why is everyone slotting Chrono Shift for healing? Why not slot it for End Mod?

Why slot Dark Consumption for damage and not End Mod? We've got Fire Blast for a primary - we're already crawling in damage.

And for those of you doing it:

is Aim worth it if it's down so much? I always forget to use it when I take it.

What does everyone think of Focused Accuracy in Mace? I've never used Soul Drain. Is it so good that it makes Dark Mastery worth taking all on its own?

I'm a hover back kind of guy and don't like to get up close. I also would rather plan for modest enhancements that I can upgrade to the purples later if I love the character. What would you think of this?

Why is everyone slotting Chrono Shift for healing? Why not slot it for End Mod?

The recovery part only lasts for 30 seconds, so slotting it for endurance only provides a marginal benefit when compared to healing which has more attractive sets like Numina's.

Why slot Dark Consumption for damage and not End Mod? We've got Fire Blast for a primary - we're already crawling in damage.

Mostly for Obliteration's set bonuses.

is Aim worth it if it's down so much? I always forget to use it when I take it.

Aim when slotted with the Gaussian's proc is a good damage boost, even with a fully saturated Soul Drain it gives you about 30% more damage for 5 seconds and 10% more damage for the remaining 5. On our high recharge build it's up every 25 seconds or so.

What does everyone think of Focused Accuracy in Mace? I've never used Soul Drain. Is it so good that it makes Dark Mastery worth taking all on its own?

Focused accuracy is a waste of endurance and a power slot, Soul Drain is incredibly powerful.

I'm a hover back kind of guy and don't like to get up close. I also would rather plan for modest enhancements that I can upgrade to the purples later if I love the character. What would you think of this?

Just stick to the build in the OP and you'll do fine. Don't waste too much time and influence on inferior sets and respecs, just play the game and the build will get completed over time.

On that note I've updated the build. Dropped Distortion Field for Aim, since I just find myself killing stuff before they get to run. We still have an AoE slow in Time's Juncture after all.

Do you solo or play in teams primarily? I find that many of my builds get played quite differently beteen the two. My Warshade double Mires and nukes everything solo, but a good team will have blown everything to bits by the time I fire off my second mire buff with nothing left to kill for example.

I do like the idea of keeping Aim. with enough recharge it's up often enough to make a difference.

Thank you for your answers, it's what I was hoping for.

Just so that I know, can you please fill me in on why Focused Accuracy is not good? And what makes Soul Drain so good? I'm not disputing you on this, I'd just like to know. I think that I understand the accuracy system in CoX, but I don't know where too much is no longer a good thing. Also, some of the other abilities in dark that didn't seem that great to me have been awesome once someone explained them. So, I'd like to know your thoughts.

A mix of both. My style of play in teams is very aggressive so i'm often ahead of the pack or soloing even in a team.

Chance to hit is hardcapped at 95%, any benefit to accuracy once you reach that point against +4 enemies is pretty much useless. And for insta-snipe which requires +22% ToHit (for now), we have Clarion Farsight anyway.

Soul Drain is great because it greatly boosts your damage, permanently with this build, while dealing decent damage by itself.

My Fire/team corruptor is still a baby (I'm still working on my Ice/Rad with ATOs, Winter IOs and Purples) so I have been mostly playing with the builds in Pine's including working in Winter IOs instead of purples, but I must say I keep coming back to your build or something almost identical. You did a great job!

I'm thinking about using this build while leveling up. Slot attuned enhacements as soon as the slot is available and slot the non-superior version of the ATOs. Obviously can't slot purples till 50, this is where maybe some winter IOs or Universal damage may be good placeholders, although regular sets are likely to suffice. I try not to rush to 60, it happens so fast anyway through regular play.

In fact this build on paper is so much more powerful than my ice/rad that I considered dropping her (currently at 45). But then yesterday I joined a team and someone asked "are we still at +4?" because everything became so much easier after I joined, so I decided to keep her and the 1/2 billion she will cost me in the end. (Guessing your build is about the same price?)
