crkohl
So I've been wanting to role an Ice Melee toon, and I started thinking of ideas. While I know it might be better on a Stalker due to AS replacing GIS, I've come to the conclusion that I seem to enjoy Scrapping far more. Been that way since live. Once a Scrapperlock, always a Scrapperlock. Anyway, I started thinking of synergies for a secondary. And it dawned on me. Besides being a little squishy compared to other sets, what's a /Fire Scrapper's biggest drawback compared to Brutes/Tankers? If you guessed no built-in taunt and mobs running the hell away from your fire, you guessed correctly! Then I pictured Ice Patch and all of the movement slows from Ice with Burn/Blazing Aura. And the built-in damage mitigation of Ice Melee helping /Fire's somewhat squishiness. And it seems like the two would actually complement each other very well. Does anyone have any experience with this pairing? I searched the forum & Reddit and found next to nothing about the combo.
Galaxy Brain
Ice Melee is a sleeper top set 😉 Its so much fun and Frost is a great AoE
Broken_Prey
I made and ice/fire stalker because of the reason you have stated. Sadly I'm only at level 15 right now, too many alts. Ice patch and burn should be really good together. Also ice will slow them down too so they can run away as fast. Nightmarer
Well, bear in mind that pre-ED, Fire Aura/Ice melee tanks were the farming kings with the Ice patch + Burn combo so with scrapper dmg + crits, yep, amazing *wipes tear*
Rathulfr
My Fire/Ice tanker is named "Eyjafjallajokull", and she's great fun. She'll be even better when the tanker changes go live. Sgt. Terminus
My Ice/Fire scrapper was my first 50 on Homecoming and it is a blast. Ice patch and Burn really do work great together but you really need to think about where you are going to setup, especially on a team where everyone is jumping around. I didn't take Frozen Fists or GIS since they are very bad DPA, but instead took Cross Punch with a +Recharge proc and use it as a ST/AOE because of the bonuses and it looks/feels awesome. Putting the Critical Strike proc in Burn almost guarantees it will go off each time. I also took Soul Mastery for the snipe to help my ST weakness and Shadow Meld to give me some extra defense before running in and dropping patches, watching everything melt. I also took all 3 Knock Back protections IOs, if you get knocked down and can't fire off Healing Flames you are dead meat. Other fun things you can do, put some Range in Frost to make it even better and put a proc in Frozen Aura to heal you when you stomp.

Terminus, do you have a build you could share for your Ice/Fire? I ended up rolling this toon, lvl 33 and having a blast, but I am having major issues putting together a build I'm happy with. Frankly, this experience has shown me how many holes /Fire has as a set overall compared to others. My main 50 is a DM/SD, and he was so easy to slot well compared to this. Here is a VERY messy early "build." Obviously some things not even slotted yet. It's very much a work in progress. My main goal should be 75% resists on as many as I can as well as 45% melee defense (which I don't have yet on this). Also I tried to fit in as many LotGs as I could. Note: I will be using the Superior ATOs when I get to 50. Have the normal ones in there for while I level up. Any tips would be very much apprecaited! Sgt. Terminus
Below is the build I am slowly working towards. 45% Melee Def, 75% S/L/F Res., very close to yours but I am using Cross Punch for fun and extra recharge. The part I didn't mention which is the most frustrating thing about this build, the activation time. Ice Patch + Burn is almost 6 seconds of standing still, unable to do anything. I didn't notice it as much pre-50, you might often find yourself playing the role of tank even, but post 50, I often find everything dead or dying before Burn kicks in, or you end up fighting all hovering mobs (seers, mu, etc.) immune to ice patch or robots happy to shoot at you from 12 to 15 feet away where controller on your the team has them immobilized. Shadow Meld helps survival but that is another 3 seconds of activation time. Ice Patch really needs a bit of boost by at least lowering the activation time especially since everyone and their brother now has a better version of ice patch thanks to the KB to KD IO. Fiery Aura does have a lot of holes and I don't see the point in trying to sacrifice everything to squeeze out any more defense/resistance. You don't really have any debuff resistance anyway. You might not just be able to jump in middle of +4/x8 groups and survive while eating a sandwich like other secondaries, but rather have to take the time to look for corners to hide behind or think about where the mobs are doing to end up after the alpha. Why not play to your strengths. Your a scrapper with Burn and great Ice melee attacks like Frost and Freezing Touch, pick your spots and freeze/melt faces! I do wish the activation time was lower, but it is an awesome mitigating tool when used properly. Especially pulling around corners as you mentioned. But ok great, good to know I'm on the right path for my build. I guess I'm a bit spoiled coming from Shield Defense as it's so absurdly powerful. I need to start Fiery Embracing (see what I did there?) the more offensive nature of Fiery Aura and realize I won't be tanking any time soon. Appreciate you posting the build!
