A Seasonal MM; Demons/Cold

The Preamble:

Meet Slay Belle, the Ultimate Christmas Cracker.

I have limited experience of MMs, but this seems to be a joy to play, surivable too from what I can tell, though I have rather rushed the route to 50. Now I'm really getting to know her, and loving every moment. In terms of background I wanted to try something different here on Reunion and something seaonal, and unusually for me I built this in Mid's first.

I'd welcome comments and critiques, but on paper at least she seems very very impressive and I am enjoying building her to what seems like could be a very very powerful character.

The Ghost Slaying Axe. The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherspectre in the room, accept no substitutes.

So a bit of an update here;

I was reminded that Stealth powers and MMs don't go well together. That caused me to respec and I've found that's evened out my defences and works a little better but I also took Mighty Leap - I was slow getting around even with void skiff and a jet pack. But that has no synergy and I do like hover. That's worked well in combat and conceptual terms too.

So I'm a little stuck and I'd appreciate help. I do like Force of Will as a pool. Weaken Resolve seems to be a good debuff and Unleash Potential makes for a handy "OHSHIT!" button but I think we could do better.

I'd really appreciate some feedback on this. Thanks.

Why did you choose a Cardiac Alpha? Both Cold and Chill Mastery are defense-based.
Do you guaranteedly want to stick with Chill Mastery in this build for concept?
How do you envision playing it - as a tankermind or as more of a support while the pets do all the tanking and dps?
If you need a power to get around, what about just taking fly/afterburner instead of Mighty Leap?

I would change quite a few things in the build, but I don't want to just run all over your concept. Here's some unstructured thoughts:
- You seem to have taken 2 full sets(Analyze Weakness, Adjusted Targeting) with the goal to get a little bit extra S/L res. You would have a much easier time just taking the fighting pool instead of Force of Will - Tough would give you more. Weave would also cover some of your defense needs, which should let you drop slotting in Ice Blast(a disappointingly weak nuke).
- Infrigidate doesn't really need slotting, or alternatively you could slot it for damage(proc monster). This means that the 6-slot in it is purely for the bonuses, which aren't great
- You're missing out on a lot of recharge by 6-slotting Mark of Supremacy instead of splitting it as 4/2 or 2/2/2 depending on your needs
- You're underestimating the usefulness of Hell on Earth - I would slot it for recharge so I can have it up more often. I usually put 4-slot Command of the Mastermind in it(the 4 recharge pieces).
- An Impeded Swiftness proc is a great source of damage in the Prince
- Soulbound Allegiance proc is a great source of damage for whichever pet tier you put it in.
- Frostwork is not worth 6-slotting, as the bonus health caps out almost immediately for pets(I don't remember the exact numbers, but I'm fairly sure that a single heal IO reaches pet hp caps). This means that the rest of the slotting is purely for bonuses, which are ok but not great. As you have done on Mighty Leap, it only takes 2 slots in a travel power to get easy access to ranged defense.
- Tactics is not really worth 6-slotting(2-3 slots do just fine), so the rest are taken for set bonuses, which are not great
- You haven't slotted Steadfast Protection, another 3% defense
- Your shields are a bit underslotted, you could squeeze out some extra defense from them if you unslot some of the other powers.

Great feedback, thanks. I'm relatively inexperienced with MMs - I had a Thugs/Poison on Live but that was about it.

An immediate response is, I've been quite successful up until now, usually I let my pets go in and take aggro but I sleet the conflict point and then use my debuffs to help them. It's worked well.

I've chosen Chill for thematic reasons. I'm not wedded to it intrinsically - but I do like it. I'm open to suggestiopns of good alternatives.

I've worked on a third build (not posted here) swapping out FoW for Fighting

I was using Cardiac when I realised I'd got some slotting wrong and suffered End issues. I actually have Musculature as my main Alpha.

Again, thanks for the commentary. I will post my new build shortly and hopefully get some more feedback.

I've tried the same build in Mids Reborn with Mace Mastery instead of Ice. It is technically better, but I'm not sure if it's thematically as pleasing.

I can't imagine entomb being particularly effective in the demon prince.

Every /cold I've built (several now) has very high uptime of heatloss. You should have no endurance issues as long as you are close enough to receive the buff off the target.

It works well, he spams hold and gives good control. Seems to be a nice compliment to the others. I don't have numbers, but anecdotally playing it seems good.

Fair enough. He also does almost as much damage as the bruiser from thugs. Whatever works though

Interesting. What would your suggestion be then?

I did:

superior mark: acc/dam, dam

superior command: acc/dam

impeded swiftness: smash proc

that leaves 2 slots to either stick some pet procs or boost his controls, or reduce his endurance costs (but you may not need the latter with heatloss).

Just depends what you want from the build though.

One things to keep in mind though (I may mistaken, in which case I apologize) is that the entomb set will only apply to the powers that could normally take that set (ie block of ice). So his other powers will essentially be unslotted.

So are you frankenslotting all your pets and that's a very interesting point about entomb. Is there anyone who can confirm/deny?

Yes, I split superior mark into 3 different pets (or applicable powers) for the super easy 30% global rech.

I tend to frankenslot (and proc) my key powers across all my characters and chase set bonuses in my less used/less important powers.

For example if you 4 piece superior command and 2 piece superior mark - you can have a single power that grants you 20% global rech along with some other nice bonuses.

So a bit of an update here;

Thanks.

I am just wondering what you mean by Stealth powers (in this case Arctic Fog) and MM's don't work together?  Just saying this as I am just starting a Demons/Cold and trying to figure out a build.

I was misinformed it seemed. Stealth - indeed invis - is ok. It's powers that make you immune to combat that cause MMs problems. I did ask the question here I think and it was resolved but my search fu is not strong and I can't link you to it sadly. But yeah, ignore that statement 🙂

Here is a build I made for this, it attempts to squeeze the maximum DPS possible out of the minions along with keeping S/L defense capped (with barrier) and keeping the minions at 40% defense to every single type of defense and way over softcap for AoE, along with granting them absolutely absurd resistances. It also keeps 40% or more resistance for yourself personally to S/L/E/F/C. It makes a very meaty tankermind as well. I would've probably chosen Scorpion Shield instead of the entire Chill Mastery pool, but you said you did not want to go against your theme which is 100% understandable so I kept it and I made the best of a situation I could with proc'ing out Ice Blast. I also took Lash, because it can be a pretty amazing proc monster for damage as well as giving you and your pets the -res benefit.

Hope you enjoy 🙂

I can confirm that this is unfortunately true, it only will apply to one power... However, the damage bonus on Impeded Swiftness applies to almost **every single one of his powers** granting him a pretty sizable damage boost.
