Best Tank for Hami raids?

Is /Dark the defacto "best" melee set for this type of build, or can it be done without? Working on a Rad/EM tanker with this goal in mind. I see the comment about Rad/Kat tank above, but is that elevated by the +def attack?

/Dark is only the "best" due to Siphon Life (self-heal). But certain armor sets (Rad Armor being one of them) don't need to rely on that heal. Also with the exception of green mitos dealing toxic damage (which we can resist), all other mitos and Hami deal Special damage which bypasses all defenses and resistances, so the choice for /Katana was not at all about defense. My choice for it was purely cosmetic (the taunt looks good).

Bottom line being, with Rad Armor, you can pick any melee set really, and tank Hami just fine.

Thanks, much appreciated! I've not had any involvement in the deeper strategy or planning of Hami raids, so this is all new to me. I'm used to just being there and following instructions!

Since I've got you here (and if you don't mind), would you be able to feedback my build plan specifically as it relates to Hami tanking? Off the top of my head & based on other posts in this thread, it looks like I'll need to find another 10-20% slow resist (sitting at 79%), but any insight on the rest of the build choices would be appreciated.

The build looks good and yes, I'd plug that slow resist to above 90%. If you place the winter set (Blistering Cold, 5-slot, skip Acc/Dam) in Barrage, you get a bit more melee def and 15% slow resist, taking the total to 95% which should be good. You'll lose a bit of MaxHP but having near immunity to slows is worth it.

I'd also improve the slotting in Radiation Therapy. Since it's your only heal, you want it to heal as much as possible and also recharge as fast as possible. You don't need to worry about accuracy slotting in it as the Healing component doesn't require enemies, so you can heal yourself even when there are no enemies in range.

Edit: you might also want better slotting in Taunt. Aim for Taunt duration first, then Recharge. If your Taunt is weak, you might lose aggro to other leaguemates unintentionally taunting Hami (it happens once in a while). 4 slots are more than enough if you can fit a set in there. Perfect Zinger is great for its 5% recharge bonus.

Thanks, very much appreciated! Totally overlooked Blistering Cold. Rad Therapy improvement should be simple enough. I'll do some tinkering to see where I can poach those Taunt slots from.

Ummmm.... Where does one find their Slow Resist? I'm not seeing it in Mids or in-game, either. Do we actually have to do the math ourselves???

In Mids, click View Totals button, then a new window will pop up, click the last tab and "Debuff Resistances" will be there. "Recharge" is what you need to look at.

To answer the OP, I've done quite a bit of research about what would be the best Hamidon tank ever. My parameters for this would be that a good tank:

  • should endure Hamidon + 18 mitos as long as possible,
  • alone in the goo,
  • without any external buffs or temporary powers,
  • and only relying on EoEs and their own powers.

Bio Armor/Dark Melee Tanker is currently the top contender. Thanks to endurance drain and slow resistances in an auto power, it can stay stunned and not have endurance dropped to zero (hence not die). This build is currently capable of staying for almost 3 minutes taking full Hamidon + 18 mito damage until defeat.

Stone Armor/Dark Melee Tanker made a good run, taking second place for tanking duration alone. It lasts around 2 minutes. Best thing of this build is stun protection (34), which allows more variety in Incarnate choices. But this is quite a hard build to play with due to movement restrictions by Granite + Rooted. Teleport is a must here. The biggest issue with this build is the lack of unresistable big heal: Earth's Embrace is their version of Dull Pain, but the heal is resistable so it doesn't work against Hami. If it did, it would surpass Bio Armor in survivability. Unfortunately, Siphon Life alone isn't enough to make this build survive for long.

Dark Melee/Regeneration Brute makes third place. They have a serious issue with endurance recovery, and Ageless Destiny isn't able to protect them for long. They don't last more than 1 minute alone in the goo as all their endurance will be drained quickly and they will be unable to heal or use any powers.

Dark Armor/Dark Melee Tanker makes fourth place. They last longer than Regeneration Brutes, but they have a larger number of issues. Their endurance drain protection is in a toggle, which gets suppressed when stunned. Incarnate mez protection isn't able to protect them for more than 1 minute when solo, so Clarion + Melee Hybrid has to be stacked and this is really counterproductive. Their lack of KB protection/resistance also makes it harder to build. In a league setting however, they're as good as Regeneration Brutes.

You can remove Dark Melee/Regen Brute from the list. I leveled one up, incarnated out, & sunk a TON of inf/merits into IO sets and it not only stinks in Hami raids, it's gotta be one of the weakest PVE combos I've ever played. My Emp Defender is more fun and kills faster! If you're thinking of out trying it, just don't. Luckily I have a Rad/Rad Brute who gets the job done at Hami and any other challenge that comes their way.
