Clave Dark 5 Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 I've been trying to think of a decent Mind/Poison build that makes use of the Proc Research that's been posted here, and so far here's what I got. I have a feeling there may not an ideal build for this, but this seems to work. The toon is currently at 40 I think but I haven't put this build in yet. On the other hand, she seems to play well enough, although maybe not the uber monster one might want. Grade my work! Coyote Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 A few things. First, the slotting on Dominate: if you're going to put a damage proc in a power, slot as LITTLE recharge in the power as you can, in order to make the proc more likely to fire. So, either commit to proccing it out for damage with like 4 damage procs and the other two slots for a mix of Accuracy, Hold, and Damage... or don't put any in. You could also go with a 4 damage procs, 1 Devastation Hold proc, and depending on your global accuracy, either a 5th damage proc (the Apocalypse, saving the purple Hold proc for Poison Gas Trap) or an Accuracy/Hold. Second, the Kismet: it costs 1 slot, and it gives no defensive bonuses. So it actually doesn't matter which defensive power you put it into, so put it into your earliest power that you'll be running all the time.... Maneuvers or Weave. That way you get its bonus earlier. Third, you're not using that much Endurance just flying around. Either put in a Flight Speed IO, or my preference would be to put a Breath of the Zephyr KB Protection IO, and free up the Karma KB IO so you get a slot. Fourth, Seismic Smash has an inherent Accuracy bonus... I didn't download the build to check the bonuses, but you may be able to get to 140% base chance to hit, which is good enough, by using an Acc/Dam IO, and it has high enough base damage that it's worth trying to get some enhancing into it. Fifth, procs in toggle powers don't really help much, except for the kind of procs that check on multiple targets and fire once. Something like Force Feedback, or Siphon Insight. So I wouldn't put damage procs in Venomous Gas... maybe the Achilles is worth it, but since you're already using one in Envenom and they don't stack, I'd rather just put 4x Dark Watcher's Despair in Venomous Gas.
oedipus_tex Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 Hi, Thanks for sharing your build. I think you have some good ideas RE: proccing, but overall this build could use tightening up. You generally want to build Controllers for Recharge and/or Defense. I didn't see much of either in the original build, with several chances for easy +Recharge overlooked (e.g. in Defense powers) Be clear about what Alpha slot you will be using. For this build, you have a lot of options. I personally think Nerve Core Paragon would work well here. That power will provide you global Accuracy, which therefor allows you to shortchange Accuracy slotting in many of your powers and slot procs instead. You skipped Hasten. This is missing out on +70% global recharge. Never skip Hasten. If someone tells you to skip Hasten, send them to the forums so we can correct them and tell them to always take Hasten. Overall endurance use with the original build is brutal. I would make cuts wherever possible because Poison is expensive. I'm unsure the Stone APP is the most ideal for your build, but I kept it for theme since you posted it in your original. I'd add more procs to take advantage of your new huge Accuracy bonuses and also take Earth's Embrace for a much needed heal and +max HP buff. An expert may need to look at this build to ensure we haven't exceeded global + MaX HP buffs. This version of the build caps to S/L defense, is one purple away from capping Ranged defense, and has +85% global recharge. Key powers are procced. Don't freak about lack of Accuracy slotting and dropping Tactics. Assuming you go to T4 with Nerve Core Paragon Alpha slot, you're getting 45% Accuracy in every power, which with the +64% Global Accuracy you're slotted for lets you hit enemies up to +4 with 95% chance to hit. To make this build work, I had to drop Mystic Flight for Hover. You can take it back if you want, but you'd lose some defense and recharge speed. Endurance usage is still not perfect with this build. You'll want to think about that with your Destiny slot. However taking an Endurance recharger for your Dest means you're skipping mezz protection in Clarion, so think carefully on this. Clave Dark 5 Posted January 29, 2020 Author Posted January 29, 2020 Thanks for responding! I learned a lot and have been given some solid suggestions. To address a few points, when I was starting this build, I had a few a design guidelines that I should have mentioned in the OP. First, what with Venomous Gas, Poison Trap and Seismic Smash, I expect this toon to live in melee a fair amount of the time, so I was trying (not terribly wel) to focus more on any +Def or +Resists I could get rather than the usual Troller focus on Recharge. That's why I didn't have Earth's Embrace or Hasten in here, although I did find that hard to drop, yeah. But obviously, both can be had; I really still have a lot to learn about building. 🙂 Secondly, by design I was trying to avoid going ATO and purple crazy (to be fair, this build didn't go nuts either), as I exemp a fair amount and my style of Inf earning tends to be slowish and I get distracted by the new shiny toon sooner than I should; I often just never get around to finishing builds that are that expensive. Still of course, that build Tex posted looks very solid and gives me food for thought, so maybe I'll try and stick with it anyway. (Looking at it again, I'm liking it more, so I may, yeah) Coyote is 100% right about that recharge affecting proc activation, I had forgotten that. Even at low levels this toon is End-hungry so putting Kismet in Maneuvers would sort of make that worse.... but that's a solid suggestion. All of the proc suggestions have been taken from threads on this board discussing the proc-monstering of these sets and I assume would be based on experience, although I do know no one's perfect of course. I really haven't spent enough time with the power to see if the procs are firing a lot or not yet. Tim "Black Scorpion" Sweeney: Matt (Posi) used to say that players would find the shortest path to the rewards even if it was a completely terrible play experience that would push them away from the game... ╔═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗ Clave's Sure-Fire Secrets to Enjoying City Of Heroes Ignore those farming chores, skip your market homework, play any power sets that you want, and ignore anyone who says otherwise. I can't recall now, but, again, I read on the forums that it's a good all round set for Trollers generally and looking over the other options, nothing super leapt out at me as "now I can also get some real attacks!" like Stone did. Secondly, doesn't the Pines thingy warn you when you violate the various rules, or is it really not that trustworthy?
