With all due respect to the dev team, you may have the right to enforce bans on live-streaming from Homecoming Servers, but I don't think you all have any place dictating that videos can't be posted. There's other servers out there where videos can be made, and to even think that you should be able to slap someone down for general content and not HC specific things is BS. Negotiations or not.

I get what you are saying Sylar and I am interested to know as well.

One caveat that the streamers need to keep in mind, if they haven't already is that they are breaking Twitch TOS. Streaming a game that is considered not legit at the moment. They are putting their own stream in jeopardy. I definitely don't want to be the negative nancy here either. I wanna know how it's all going, but I doubt they will tell us. Just my 2 influence.

As someone who has signed too many NDAs myself . . . sorry, but if there is a clause in the documents regarding discussion of "the Talks" with outside parties (as is often the case), then even an accidental leak could cause a total collapse of the process.  Let alone legal risks.  Big companies like ncsoft are notorious for writing draconian NDAs.

you are right about twitch, and that is why i tend not to stream city of heroes either as i have built up a nice community on my stream, but videos on youtube? too much in my opinion, HC got no right to tell people "dont do this its illegal while we attempt to own an illegal code" kind of hypocritical of them imo.

I agree completely. They can't police videos like that. But they can ban people from playing on these servers. Those who want to continue to play will have to abide by the change. It sucks. *waits patiently and hopes for the best, but expects the worse*

More to the point for me is that I'd argue that HC could completely and totally make the argument about YouTube IF they were the only CoH server out there. But they're not and everyone knows this. I completely support them being leery of things that can be thrown back in their face, but when the general code is out there and people could make things anywhere, that's outside of their scope IMO.

Now, I *would* agree if anyone had been posting stuff from the Playtest server or the like. That's specifically 'theirs' - but in general, that's out there.

Are they issuing DMCA copyright takedown notices? If so, they have to be the copyright holder or an authorized agent of the holder.

They never said or implied they would be taking any actions through the streaming services.

They said it would be a violation related to YOUR GAME ACCOUNT, which they obviously have full control of.

Exact wording: "any new videos or streams will be treated as a Code of Conduct violation. "

I used to hail from Infinity.  Mainly on Everlasting, now.

I'm more amused/annoyed that we are now, each and every one, expected to know the names of every single named NPC in the entire game... in order to avoid using any of those names. (Per our Discord conversation with Jimmy on CoRP, that includes things from the $RandomBossName list, since I specifically asked about Tavaris-)

Good luck with that one.

The name alone doesn't constitute a copy of the character, you can make an Agent Crimson that's completely unrelated to Longbow's Agent Crimson and that's perfectly fine.

Thanks, that makes more sense to me. So a person doing this would need to be unidentifiable from the video.

If it wasn't clear, this policy of course only applies to Homecoming. Obviously we have no control over what goes on with other servers.

Jimster. Jimmy. Jimmy Johns. Jimmy Jimadome, Onwer of the Jimsdale Jimadome.

The policy about the names and such feels like you guys either didn't take the feedback given to Tempest/Arcanum to heart or just brushed it off.

And how can you insure that you won't police video from other servers mistaking them for Homecoming?

Which does nothing to help the situation with Ashton. A character mentioned only in text, in two missions, in one mid-level arc. You know why I'm ticked about that, Jimmy. <_<

And I appreciate that clarification. That said, would you be able to go into how you think YouTube content ought to be handled? As mentioned earlier there are a number of tutorials, base making videos and the like that were put together on Homecoming, but to the best of my knowledge don't use their exclusive content. Will those still be able to move forward?

I've enjoyed my time here, and have no intention or desire to see anyone go elsewhere - or to see any trouble caused. I really don't. I'd just like to make sure that everyone is on the same page if at all possible.

And honestly part of the reason Homecoming has been successful is a YouTube community, which is almost required for a game to work nowadays, stripping that away....I just can't see that going over well

Speculation on my part, but it bears noting that this decision may not be in Homecoming's hands.

Something to bear in mind.

Then they should tell the community, claiming to be honest and open while not being open and honest is kind of two-faced.

"We demand transparency on things they're not allowed to be transparent on!"

Y'all need some experience in dealing with business contracts. I mean, I'm just a corporate sysadmin, and even I know there's stuff you just can't blurt out.

As a side note did you run the PI farm last night on Everlasting?

Also Homecoming's biggest issue is lack of transparency, I appreciate what they're trying to do, but their lack of transparency is frustrating
