I know there are several similar threads about this, but wanted to see if I could get some more specific advice by giving more background.

A little background. I’ve been branching out lately in my altitis. I began just playing brutes and scrappers. Then added in stalkers and tankers. Branches over to blasters. Just in the last two weeks added in a corruptor.

In each of these I have always focused on offense. In the case of the corruptor, I still focus on offense, but like the fact that I can  do so while helping out the team. For my corruptor I rolled fire/kin as it seemed the no brained for both personal and team offense.

Now my sights are set on Defenders.  Again I like to be an offensive powerhouse, whether personally or more importantly as a team. I’ve been reading through the defender forums and there seems to be a consensus that sonic is the best secondary to amplify personal and team offense. So I figure I will go sonic secondary.

I’m having trouble deciding on a primary though. A natural choice seems to be to choose kinetics. I’m not opposed to this, but I don’t want to run into a situation where I always play the fire/kin corr over the kin/sonic fender, or visa versa. Is kin/sonic just too fun to not do?

Other primary contenders for offensive support seem to consistently mention rad and cold. I am somewhat leaning toward rad based on what I’ve read, but wanted to consult all you defenders.

Basically, I want my defender to make the team an offensive powerhouse, and hopefully contribute decently personally as well. Will I regret not taking kin as the primary? Will rad fulfill my goals? Should I choose a different primary based on the background I provided?

Also, I’m interested in leaning into the support role a bit more on the defender, but still my primary wish is to be boost the teams offense.

Lastly, builds are always appreciated. Even if I don’t use them exactly I often use them as a base to tweak. Usually to make them cheaper at the cost of some optimization.

Cold/Rad/Dark/Kinetics are the best at this. Kin/Sonic will boost the teams damage the most by themselves and everyone will notice when you join or enter a team. However, you already played a corruptor kin. So, I would go dark because it has a heal and sonic blast does not add any kind of healing or mitigation.

I planned a Dark/Sonic. Great offensive help, but also all of the -Res boosts the -Damage to ridonkulous levels. I think well over -150% Damage. And well over -100% To Hit. And just for the real use to most teams, about -90 or so -Res single target, or -50 AoE. And with solid -Regen and great controls for a Defender.

Sounds like dark/sonic is the winner!  I’ll probably start making the toon sometime next week. Still working on my corruptor at the moment.

Thanks!

My choices to pair with /Sonic would be either Kin/Sonic or Rad/Sonic personally; both of them are highly capable.  The choice is if you want a buff set or a debuff set.  Dark/Sonic would also work well; I know my Dark/Dark back on Live was capable of maintaining something around -50% to hit to an entire spawn and -100% to a single mob.

There was a fairly large population of D3's (Dark/Dark Defenders) back then; it was a very popular combination for good reason.

Guardian Survivor, occasional tanker and player of most AT's.

Guides: Invulnerability Tankers, The first 20 levels.  Invulnerability Tankers Soft Cap defense
