Claws/Regen, that build you wish you didn't make

Recommended Posts

Or at least that's how I feel right now.

I remember liking this build on live (It was my main rp character, after all). I have seriously fond memories. But right now, I just can't figure out how to make it viable, and I'm hearing so many different things on what a good build is and what my rotation as claws should be for optimal damage output. I want to make this claws/regen fun again.

As a result, I've scrapped (hah. Oh, the joke is that she was a scrapper.) three potential builds entirely and I'm back to square one.

Does anyone have any builds that I can ponder over? I've

Can anyone help in that regard?

This is the best build I could come up with.

Regen is just a dramatic under-performer.  I needs help badly but is constantly ignored.  It has minimal resists to debuffing and relatively low defense.  Because of this it can be easily debuffed into uselessness via -recharge (because of it's click intensity).

Most people looking to play the regen theme instead play Willpower as it does what regen does but with layered defenses on top of it.

The set is still playable but it is numerically not as good as the other sets.

I like FU -> Focus -> Slash -> Strike for ST DPS on my Tanker. Heca in FU, Apoc in Focus, Achilles in Slash. Brutes ought to be mostly the same, although you get less out of Follow Up relatively.

For AoE, you can be fancy and leverage Evis + Spin + Shockwave in whatever way you want, but I find Spin is so powerful on its own I just add it to my ST chain (replace Strike with it, for example).

If I were building a Claws/Regen brute, I'd go with something like this:

Out of all the defense sets I have played regen seems to require the most management, as well as situational awareness. I have to constantly watch my health bar and be ready to hit a button if it gets low. That would be fine with me, if it offered some sort of benefit to make up for it. Compare regen to invulnerability which is set-and-forget and you would expect there to be some benefit for all the extra work it requires.

The only thing I can think of is that it has a self rez, that gives you invulnerability for like 15 seconds (IIRC) and you start with quite a bit of health and not stunned, which is cool. Which could be part of the design. You die a lot, but some back. But you still get penalized for dying. It might be cool, if using your self rez did not penalize you the way going to the hospital or being rezzed from another does.

Then you remember Willpower has the same exact rez and is one of the strongest defensive sets...

Regen just straight up sucks now. People can try to defend it in its current state all they want. "Yea, well I can do +4/x8 missions on mine so its not bad!! See?! Look!...guys?" But any other set could do the exact same thing with half the effort. Playing Regen nowadays is just hard mode (which I actually kind of see the appeal for).

One of my mains on live was a Spines/Regen Scrapper before the IH nerf... it's sad.

Yes regen is not that good.  People trying to make their own wolverine forget that he has adamatine bones as well.  Without those he would be squishy as hell.

massively disagree.

on topic tho, i'll edit/paste things i've recently posted about building a /Regen;

from a few thousand hrs on /Regen chars, the single biggest suggestion i can make if you're looking for durability is; do not bother enhancing standing Regen through Enh or Bonuses, just the clicks (IH, DP ...maybe some Int & Recon love). instead, hit melee Def softcap & attempt 150+Rech, then add what you can in Resists. it's going to feel counter-intuitive, until you play it with a strong layered build a while.

Regen loves +Def as much as it thrives on +Rech, but the set also lacks any Debuff Res (take Ageless?). because chasing +Def & +Rech to their limits can have diminishing returns, and hitting all softcaps on any Regen char will gut the rest of the build, just take the biggest bonuses & then go looking to add easy Res (S/L yes, but don't neglect E/N ...F/C will come from Purps & WOs). a +Res based build on a Regen doesn't work out (i tried), but adding solid/well-rounded Res does help if you have good Def & Rech already. look at Meld (for Scraps) & alternating Rune & Melee Core to stay near Res caps.

Regen is near the bottom these days, but it can still shine ...it's just very very hard play-wise & to build. lol, accept the challenge!

It is numerically weaker though.  Specifically debuffs are what will destroy it.  Sets with inbuild def of any amount will get hit less likely meaning getting debuffed less often.  The resist sets tend to have debuff resistances built in.  Regen functionally operates as a resist set because it absorbs the damage with healing instead of avoiding the damage outright like a def set would.  But it comes with NO debuff resists.  So it eats all those attacks with debuffs but then gets gutted by said debuffs.

So yes it will function weaker then other sets by cascading once debuffs start getting applied.
