SeraphimKensai Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 (edited) Let's fix up the Golden Giza, and let players wager their influence and reward merits for the chance to win more playing slots, poker, blackjack, roulette, etc. Edited April 3, 2020 by SeraphimKensai 7 2
Grouchybeast Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 This would be a great idea, provided that there's a suitable bias in favour of the house. Since the AH tax is 10%, I would suggest that as the minimum house margin. This would be good for the game economy, and also Johnny Sonata is not going to be giving away his inf. Let's just assume the devs made a complicated and beautiful system for gambling and players got fed up with always losing. Now the devs don't have to make the system. Great work everybody, take five. /claps. 3 8 2 ..It only takes one Beanbag fan saying that they JRANGER it for the devs to revert it.
Llewellyn Blackwell Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Uhm guys influence is not money in any way shape or form in the game world. It should not be able to be gambled with like money can be in RL. Just breaks the immersion imo. Now if they wanted to create a new form of actual in game world currency, perhaps attached to day jobs( how people actually earn money) or for villains as part of bank heists that could be used, Id be all for it. What would this currency be useful for? Id say nothing game impacting, like for costume changes at Icons, 5

There's a series of jackpot wins on the gambling games that award badges. Very low odds of winning it for small bets, higher odds for larger bets. Get the full set of badges and win an accolade! Like real casinos, make it 70/30. Return 70% of all influence gambled, in medium and large jackpot-type winnings. Devs, make it so! 1
Obus Form Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Also, add a high-stakes roller, where people can bet 100s of millions. Big money! 1

SeraphimKensai Posted April 3, 2020 Author Posted April 3, 2020 Honestly doing something like this would create an interesting influence sink for the economy, while allowing YOU to be the BIG WINNER, as we know you are the luckiest person in the world. Honestly even RP'ers might want to get glammed up and head over to the luxurious Golden Giza for a night of great fun, just remember what happens in St. Martial stays in St. Martial. Let it ride for your chance to win big, and live the high life.
ZacKing Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 lol at needing "influence sinks" for a rogue server running a long dead MMO. If you feel like you've got too much inf, give it away. problem solved and no dev time required.
ArchVileTerror Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Gambling? Like Rikti Monkey Fight Club? https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/15702-monkey-fight-club-its-not-a-secret-anymore/ But, yeah; I'd be okay with the game taking over for me. It's honestly a bit of a hassle to run these things. As for the roleplay and narrative contextualization of the gambling of Inf: Inf -includes- money, favours, and resources. Hell! Someone can even bet on their reputation. Gambling with Inf is entirely justified with in-game lore!

Thats like your opinion man. I see influence and what we use it for not as us buying anything but as our characters influence over the world and the greatfulness of the populace offering us what help they can from a in game world character pov. Or as fear and intimidation for infamy red side. I dont consider enhancements to be items in the conventional sense either, though some do clearly get defined as things via the name this is especially common for the magic SOs and the like which get called things like earings and what not. I know its certainly not perfect, but I am very much against the game world itself treating non money as money when it very much isnt. Otherwise objects like rubies would be way way more valuable inherently. Comicbook heroes are traditionally not motivated by a quest for personal wealth with only a few exceptions. Greed is more the drive of villains. 1

Its basically a GM tool and there entirely to act as both a way for players to access the old vet powers and to act as an influence sink, because well every game needs such to drain off some of that earned and avoid excessive inflation. Yes from a player pov its our money, not from our character pov which is the main point I am trying to stress here. We see money at bank heists, and that is not the same as our inf. Inspirations are not physical objects to a character pov either imo even though from a player pov they are this games potions basically. I feel it is vital to the unique nature of the coh setting to keep such a division in mind.

But I'm a badass villian, and I want to be able to walk into the Golden Giza and get the recognition that I deserve because of my infamy. I want flunkies running up with my favourite drink already prepared on a silver tray, and ushering me to the private high-rollers' game room. I want my lucky table to be ready for me to play. I want a good-looking host(ess) hovering around to bring me my basket of fries cooked exactly the right shade of golden brown and sprinkled with truffle salt, and there had better be no broken fries. I hate broken fries. Sure those other villains, the ones who are much less infamous, they only get to play the slots, but I have a name and reputation in the Rogue Islands and I want some RESPECT for it. 1 1 Reunion player, ex-Defiant.
