Hi All,

I have a lvl 25 Brute, Staff Fighting & Super Reflexes. I feel he's less than optimal.

SR feels a bit underpowered and I was hoping for a reason to stick with it, instead of re-rolling him with a new secondary.

Also, I'm using Ninja Run and a flight pack from P2W instead of a travel power, so plenty of power slots available.

Any suggestions or tips to make this more robust?

Thanks

WB

ps. I love the SF power set

Staff works with almost anything.  Guarded Spin will give you plenty of melee defense, allowing slotting for Ranged Defense.

I went with Staff/Willpower.  Mako's Bite, Eradication sets, few red fortunes and couple reactive armors, maybe an obliteration set

oof, it's absolutely not tho. with evenly built Resists in the 35-55% range, a self-Heal and/or good Regen, and Absorb proc/s, it can be insanely durable. it's almost like old-school /Regen in MoG in-that you'll be scraping along at 10-15% HP and still not die... it's HP-based +Res is that good. takes some gettin use to tho for sure. i'd guess a lot of the reason you might be having a rough go, is you haven't lvl'd up high enough to unlock/use your AoE Def power (Lucky).

SR is a good match with Staff because it's not a clicky-intensive set, which allows the long animations to not get you killed waiting to hit a defensive power or heal.

try building up E/N/F/C Res, run Tough (other S/L Res bonuses will come easily). make sure you're softcapped Melee/AoE/Range (icap isn't even hard to hit). slot whatever +Heal +Regen +Absorb you can fit. peeps use to take Aid Self, but i think it works against SR's HP-based Res mechanic now, while small Heals/Regen/Absorb work with it.

Thanks for the advice. I'll just stick (pun intended) with it.

I really like SF and will adapt to make use of SR.

Thanks

I made a staff/regen Brute with whirlwind. Highly recommend if you know what you are doing because it's hilarious and meme worthy.

However for sane people I'd say maybe staff/invuln, more so because of the +to hit from invincibility than any other factor. As much as I love the breakdancing it feels bad when that breakdance whiff whiff whiffs.

I recently rolled an Invuln/Staff Tank and, though she's only L20 now, the ride has been fairly safe.  Drop all of the P2W enhances into Guarded Spin and it comes close to 3-stacking itself.

Also, concerning Guarded Spin, it seems that every target hit can build a stack of Mastery?  Hitting a single target builds one, but when I line up targets, it can go from zero to three in a single click.  Not complaining, but just unsure if it's working as intended

I have a Dark Armor/Savage Melee character nearing 50 now, but Staff is another set I'd recommend to use with Dark Armor.  You can add a layer with its defense boosting attack.  More importantly, one of your stances gives you a substantial endurance discount that's probably wasted on my Staff/Regen brute.

My Staff/SR brute is now a year old, is Vet level 120 ish and has all 1531 badges. She is unstoppable - well except by Hami when I forget to take an EoE!! She taunts Yellow mitos in Hami raids, she is a BEAST!!!

That said, up until level 30ish she did feel a bit underpowered but suddenly that changed in the low 30s and it was like a revelation! She felt invulnerable and I have loved playing that toon ever since. I think it takes some enhancements and power synergies for SR to really kick in properly, so stick with it, you will be very pleasantly surprised!

Oh, and get your +Recovery up at a decent level as there are LOTS of toggles!

I would think invuln would work well with Staffs as invuln brings +to hit that staff lacks. Would be very durable.

SR would be good also with the extra mitigation from staff.

Yep it's underpowered until you get all 3 toggles and all 3 passives.

But when you get those and your attacks 6-slotted for +def bonuses you'll be unhittable and riding the SR high.

Never seen this on my Brute. I always have to do Guarded > Innoculous > Guarded and then I'm 3 stacked.

Could be a Tank-only bug resulting from the changes to tanks recently?

My Staff / NRG also only "clicked" at around level 35. Now he's a beast. Sits at the incarnate cap for Smashing / Lethal (well way above for Lethal once Guarded starts stacking up), 2 stacks of guarded gets me there on melee, a heal and decent resists, especially if you use Body which NRG can do.

Only thing I dislike is the redraw. Devs said Redraw was a thing of the past but it certainly looks like redraw to me if I heal or end drain (or use Gloom or the epic AOE).

I really like my Staff/EnA brute.  Not sure if it's the best combo or not, but I've got him with soft-capped defense, solid resists and a concept that I love.

What this team needs is more Defenders

My husband is really loving his staff/elec

I was quite enjoying this combo, too, then someone told me to go Street Justice instead and it's not as much fun imho. For context, I wanted it to be a Speedster type build so the staff whirling around fits the theme and the punching and kicking doesn't.

..It only takes one Beanbag fan saying that they JRANGER it for the devs to revert it.

ahh, fpr seedster theme I went savage melee.... I know that the clawing things are not quite right, but the attacks (and teleport attack!) feel faster than just about anything else.

You wouldn't be willing to share a build, would you?

Oh ye... I remember now, the first draught of that character was a savage/electric, it was kinda fun but it got a bit boring having to wait for cooldowns to do combos. That's no fun at all imho.

Here you go - now for my excuses...

I'm not a min-maxer, I don't have an addiction to Hasten and I'm not obsessed with maxing resistances/defences 🙂
This is IMO a decent all round build and it works very well for me, but nowadays I am 50+3 vet level 120-ish with T4 incarnates as you can see in the build.

Don't much care about min-max. I just wanna have fun with the character! Thank you so much for your willingness to share. 🙂
