I'm sorry, it just seemed in poor taste to come onto the Dom boards and start badmouthing the AT. One has to anticipate shots fired if they want to be an antagonist. But it is true, they are a hard AT to play if you aren't fulling paying attention.

Funny how the boards work. I started a badmouth blasters thread under archetypes and came away from it with a much more solid build for my fire/time blaster. 🙂

Think earth/earth is great you should have tried a Plant/Earth.

Earth/Earth I can imagine is a beast. I can add though as QuiJon stated, Plant Earth is great as well.

I have a fully IO'd Incarnate Plant/Earth/Ice Permadom. It shreds things. It's more fun than my Mind/Martial Permadom, and comparable to the fun I have on my Elec/Psi Permadom.

I'm very much normally a mirror. If someone comes looking for help I'll help them. If they come looking to put things and people down, then I'll take them down a peg.

I'm not interested in earth/earth doms in the least and never will be, nor do I like earth control.

All I want is for the other dom sets to not be awful to play.

Doms get less HP than blasters they die when looked at, and they really kind of suck until incarnate level if not using the build the OP is.

I mean, if you don't like them don't play them. But don't blame your inexperience on the AT. Dominators kick @$$ pretty much all the way up if played right.

So, back before the snap, I tried one dom, Fire/Ice or Ice/Fire, I don't remember. Hated it. I main a controller, but I hate buffing. I remade it in Homecoming and it rocks. Grav/Storm/Fire. But, I wanted something more damagey, so I tried a couple of blasters. UGH. Not for me, I'm a control-freak (my other main is a tanker). So, I gave Dominators another try and have never looked back! Elec/Nrg, Dark/Sav, Plant/Rad, Mind/Psi. All of them have MUCH pwnage. And now, thanks to this thread, I just got my Fire/Earth to 50. I mean, come oooooon! It's ridiculous! Sure, it is energy hungry, but that can be dealt with easily enough. This is the build

(I know, I know, but muh Ice Mastery! It already has plenty of attacks, and controls, so self-buffs looked like the better choice.)

I can 3rd or 4th or whatever we are up to now Plant/Earth. I main controllers and dominators and that combination is some of the most fun I've had in recent times. I actually re-rolled that character from a plant / nature controller that I couldn't get into and once I did it easily became my second favorite character to play. The first being my Illusion/Dark controller.

Back when I was inexperienced I also thought dom's were awful. They are not for inexperienced players. I'm sorry you are incapable of playing them well enough to have fun.

There is a pain barrier to go through with them.  Other ATs may offer easier, low hanging fruit.  ie.  I've seen Sentinel players expect to go into a mob and not drop like a ton of bricks.  And drop with the glass jaw and wonder what happened.  That's inexperience of ATs.  As I moved through the ATs, I favour the ones that have less damage throughput but offer more 'fun' or 'tactical' challenge or more 'power' which isn't necessarily the highest in damage throughput.

But I can see how you may think a Domi or a Blaster is 'awful' if you haven't had the experience to understand the context of just how 'great' a Domi is at 1st glance because you're playing a scrapper which can eat mobs with impunity or a brute....or doesn't do the damage of say, a blaster.

But part of gaining CoH mastery?  Play a dominator.

Play a domi to L8, L16, L22, L32, L38, L50.  Each one of those will give a different picture.  But the picture does become more complete.  From Hate.  To frustration.  ('Why did I roll one of these back on live?) To love.

The Domi AT is an art form.

Damage throughput or Power?  That said.  Some domi's get to have both...

Not sure why you quoted me on this, maybe for truth. Your Statement also rings true. I happen to love my doms, Control AND a great Damage multiplier! My Dark/Savage eats whole groups for a light snack. My Electric/Martial (ranged focus) however, is great thematically, but does somewhat feel lack luster at it's current level once it's finished though I'm sure it'll just walk around and nuke things.

It's just the relatable experience of the early experience of Dominators which you, I and other players have experienced.

I remember being so frustrated with them to begin with.  I had to take 'breaks' from playing them wondering what all the fuss was about.

Until one gets a Domi to L8, 12 (for DOs..), L22 (SOs...) 32 (aha...I think I'm a demiGod...) and L50 with a set build...(i'm gOd...POWURRR!)

That can be a testing journey.  It was for me 1st time around.  And I forgot the initial pain I had on live when I returned to it on Homecoming.

My DUO partner has yet to stick with a Domi past the pain threshold and thus doesn't get the appeal (yet...)

Or if a 'Sentinel' only player who tries a Blaster or Domi and wonders why you can't just zoom into a mob without getting a fat lip....  Fun to watch...but one has to experience the pain of a Domi 1st hand to enjoy the heady divinity that comes later...

I honestly has the opposite problem when I played a Sentinel, it just seems so foreign and underwhelming. Things charge right up to you and you don't have any power to just one shot them away, like I can on a blaster or scrapper. People call Dom's a pain, but Sentinels made my eyes bleed from boredom and lack of any kind of being Super, except for maybe Super boring! I love the fight of the Dom though always keeps you on your toes until you have to power to look at a room and lock it down, and then blink and make it fall over!

My gal, who i admit is a Toph from avatar knock off, allows me to play ultra aggressive and in Melee 100%. I skipped the single target immob, the sleep, mud pots, and hurl boulder.

I open with a power boosted earthquake, which allows me to take alpha, then hit mass stun, immob, and gases if its up. After everyone is locked, I melee smash them all to bits. I quicksand on occasion if the map geography calls for it. I do the stomp and jump AoE and hit the Mighty Judgement with knock as it comes up. Once dom hits, she just rolls.

I think I have almost permanently hasten by just a few seconds. My positional def is like 30ish ranged, 20ish melee, 18ish AoE. My S/L resist is capped and the rest is in the teens and 20s. If I dropped some recharge I could get much more defense. To compensate, I got Melee hybrid and barrier incarnates. Love her!

She is built with survivability in mind. Tough/Weave, invulnerable epic, combat jump, both def and resist procs, both ATO sets, and about 100% global recharge before hasten. Once a dom gets going, you don't want to stop them. She lacks a heal, but her regen and recovery are pretty decent. I would rather have barrier and melee hybrid than a heal and assault, although I may try out both long term.

Just started a grav/earth about a week ago.

Never tried the earth primary before.

You've convinced me to give it a  try.

As everyone else has said. Dominators are the best thing ever.

Back on live they were my 2nd AT and quickly surpassed my first.

I'll never forget reading the forums for tips when I discovered  " Permanent Domination"

After that the game attained Godhood and nothing since has even come close.

Leveling is so much fun, I never seen the appeal of Power Leveling.

As a Dominator you live on the Edge, one misstep...
