Grav/Storm Sage Advice

Bob the Painter

Recommended Posts

Hello Paragon,

I'd like some help building a Grav/Storm as the title says. Have been playing it for a few days, and have had a blast so far--just hit 32. I like to research to see what other people do for IOs. I found lots of storms and a few gravs, but very little of both together.

The idea of a proc monster is kinda intriguing. I have no idea when, if ever, it should be used. I found the build below in the proc monster controller topic a few pages deep. I don't know the name of the user who posted it originally. If I have time later, I will find the original to give the user credit.

Could anyone refine the build below? Or give some general tips on where to go with it? I only do PvE with groups. If that is a good fit for this kinda build, awesome! If not, what other direction should I be heading into.

Thanks in advance everyone

Ah, you're in luck! You happened onto one of the best combos of the game. I've played one for aaaaaaaages and it never gets boring.  Below is my current build. I am in the process of tweaking it to squeeze a couple more points out of it, but this will get you started. Many people will quibble with some of my choices, but I will say, this thing has served me well.

Can I ask, which skills were taken to be used as mule, and which are actually useful? Consume is taken so late, my guess that is just a mule for boosting END?

A lot of those higher level powers burn through End like heck. And with such high recharge, getting that second round of LS, Tornado, and Freezing Rain going in long battles, like in the ITF, can be problematic. So, Consume is basically there for that. In lower level stuff, like EXed down for a Synapse or whatever, End burn is not such an issue and fights tend to be shorter. I also tend to spam the heck out of Crushing Field, which soaks up End.

The only other thing that might be considered "mule" is Afterburner. I actually took it for theme reasons, but it works for an LotG mule. It's also nice to speed up travel time. Plus, it does give a big bonus to DEF, so if she gets too much on her solo, she can pop that and get out, sometimes.

This is how I'm doing Grav/Storm; strategically-placed FF+Rech keep me at 278% Recharge in combat, and I can dump out three Lightning Storms at once.  Endurance is not an issue if you're using Wormhole to throw mobs back where your 3x Lightning Storm are hanging out.  I don't care how you slice it, Grav/Storm is one of the most fun builds in the game, period.

Periodt! My whole playstyle is battlefield management with damage. And, Grav/Storm is, far and away, the best at management. Enemies go where I want them. They stay where I want them. This is why I judiciously apply Sudden Acceleration. I put it on certain things, leave it off others. It's also why I struggle to play other powersets. Like, when I'm on my Plant/Dark thinking "I really need those guys over here," but where are my KBs, my WH? And, I really struggle with buff sets. I know they are powerful as force multipliers, but I don't feel the power, personally.

I really need help with a cheap build for this.  No purples and all but the cheapest uniques (like LOTGs, health and stamina uniques might be all I can splurge on).  very few if any set mules so I can learn the powers a bit while i figure out how i want to play it.  Have very little experience with the sets and no money to burn.

Id really like to use psi mastery for indom will, mind over body, psi tornado (fits storms powersets and theme) and maybe even world of confusion?

Run Thunder strike  sets in as many things as you can. It’s a really cheap way to cap ranged defense. It really ups your alpha strike survivability. There’s a link to a mids build that’s relatively cheap floating around this forum or maybe reddit. I’ll try to find it.

In this case, my recommendation is just to use sets of whatever is cheapest in each set. As long as you are not running on something crazy like 4x8, Grav/Storm, even cheaply slotted, can handle pretty much anything the game can throw at it.
