Thinking of rolling a stone

Earth/earth is the first dom which felt like it would really stick playing on Homecoming. If Earth control is an issue for you, you might want Fire/earth. It will be end heavy, but two damage auras means a lot of damage.

I wouldn't roll a Stone Armor anything, at least not until it gets ported to Stalkers.  You can spend most of your merits, inf, and effort working around the penalties of Granite and Rooted, but you'll eventually lose interest.  I had a stone armor tanker on Victory, played the character to 50.  Rolled this one during the dark days of i5, but never really took a shine to her and once IOs came around I went back to building up Heraclea.  If you decide to go Granite, make a Tanker; Stone Armor brute is a possibility, but it'll end in tears.

 

Stone Melee is quite good for tankers, on the other hand.  Pair it with a high control primary like Ice or Dark.  You'll be a real melee controller, incapacitating mobs so your teammates can mow them down.

Honestly, until there are changes in the set, I don't see a major point in playing a Stoner (Tank or Brute).  If you're going to roll in Granite, your party is simply going to leave you behind.  Even making allowances for movement-focused builds, it's still just too slow for the game as it exists now.

you can build for +dam/+rech/+movement so that you are still capped with resist/def (not with granite and rooted at the same time, but in most cases that's overkill)  With Teleport, I'm often ahead of the group (as a tank should be).

 

My only suggestion would be to change rooted to the following:

  1. change -Jump in Rooted to -50% from -50,000% so you can get over stupid little ledges and such like Praetorian Sewers have
  2. Cut the -Movement speed in Rooted in half and remove it entirely while in Granite

I think those two things would go a long way in making Stone more attractive without making it overpowered.

I've built similar.  I still find it too slow for many teams.

I did my damndest to build a decent Stone/Fire tanker years ago, originally it was rolled up in response to the massive nerfs of issue 5-6 and more or less shelved when IO sets came in and you could build Invuln to close to the same durability with none of the penalties.

 

I devoted every bonus I could beg, borrow or steal in order to overcome the -speed, -recharge and -damage; there wasn't anything to be done about -jump though.  I ended up with a character that was less effective than my Invuln, far less mobile and almost up with his damage with a small edge in durability that was mostly academic outside of a few edge cases.  I found the character to be far harder to play effectively and even at it's best it wasn't the equal of the Invuln in playability.

 

I have to agree, Stone Armor as it currently exists isn't worth the penalties it imposes, especially in the current game of fast moving teams.  Even at it's IO'd best "fast" isn't something Stone can pull off.

The Lava and Crystal alternate animations I find a bit shorter.  I always go with those for that reason.
